. Shugohakkeshō | Protective Eight Trigrams Palms | 守護八卦掌 [Regarding Deriving Jutsu; Previous incarnations of certain Hyūga clan techniques have featured a mechanic that allows them to be purchased in a manner similar to Evolving techniques, but without overwriting the previous jutsu. I have chosen with this incarnation to name this effect 'Deriving' as each subsequent jutsu is derived from the previous. Deriving Jutsu: Deriving Technique may not be purchased by lower ranks at 2x the base JP cost. When purchasing a Deriving Technique, the purchaser may possess the jutsu it derives from and receive a -1x JP reduction on the cost of the technique, where 'x' is the number of times that technique has derived (to a minimum of 1). Example: Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms [base JP: 5; Deriving JP: 4] Example: Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms [base JP: 8; Deriving JP: 6] With the first example, the cost is reduced by 1, because Sixty-Four Palms only derives from Thirty-Two Palms, where One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms gains an additional point of reduction because it is derived from Sixty-Four Palms and Thirty-Two Palms. The balancing point here is that you don't normally get to buy them when you're a rank lower, but you receive a decent (not as good as evolving, but close) JP reduction, for purchasing the whole line of techniques.] [Deriving Techniques] [Re-submission] • Shugohakke Rokujūyon Shō | Protective Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms | 守護八卦六十四掌 Type: Taijutsu [Jūken | Hijutsu; Hyūga | Dōjutsu; Byakugan | Deriving; Hakke Sanjūni Shō] Rank: Chūnin Cost: 70 Stamina; 70 Chakra Damage: 100 Effect: The technique may be performed in the Main Phase or the Response Phase. Response: This technique reduces the damage of an unresolved physical attack targeting the user by the amount of base damage that it deals. If 100% of the unresolved attack’s total damage is negated by this technique, all effects of the attack are also negated. The user of this technique gains 1 ‘Trigram Charge’ when this technique is used. This technique has a 10% chance to fail. This technique may be used in the Response Phase 2 times per battle. Main: The user of this technique may elect to pay 1 ‘Trigram Charge’ when performing this technique to treat this technique as if it were instead an ‘Area of Effect’ technique dealing 75 damage. Description: First created by Hyūga Hinata as a means to defend herself after being nearly killed by her cousin, the Protecting Eight Trigrams Palms utilize similar patterns as their parent techniques to much different means. By channeling chakra into the palms of their hands, the user is able to move their arms and produce lingering arcs of chakra that can serve both offensive and defensive purposes. With the aid of the Byakugan and natural flexibility, the user creates broader arcs of chakra that form a lattice-work around their body and defend against incoming attacks. When used offensively, the user creates thinner, more blade-like arcs of chakra, and lashes out with them sixty-four times, damaging an area all around them. Points: 10 [9] • Shugohakke Hyaku Nijūhachi Shō | Protective Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms | 守護八卦百二十八掌 Type: Taijutsu [Jūken | Hijutsu; Hyūga | Dōjutsu; Byakugan | Deriving; Shugohakke Rokujūyon Shō] Rank: Jōnin Cost: 110 Stamina; 110 Chakra Damage: 200 Effect: The technique may be performed in the Main Phase or the Response Phase. Dropped that effect, replaced it with something simple and different.

Uh, I have to go see a guy about a thing. The air fluxuations radiating off the hall of green firs that is crucial to the joyous north wind aeroducts propulsion are all off. It's going to take me approximately until October 6 to fix. Bai.

Miso got the points I had posted before the fire on the nail. I've went through and swapped out all DMIC to their abbreviated wordage. I chose to gate the 3rd Essence of Frost behind the last skill for balance purposes. I could break Eternity into ranks if that would be more palatable.

Shirt checks out. I am feelin' wobbly just looking at it. Welcome back to the crack den!

I've done... ~something~ to my hand (see: I don't even know). Possibly a sprain or something but anyway, expect slowness from me for the next few days while this passes.

How I would do it would be putting a (-1) next to the passive skill ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Removing the free skill would work and by removing it do you mean paying for it? Eh, the wording of the technique suggests any skill that hits max usage that has its usages based on the cloak, not to the activated/triggered ones.

Your cost would actually be 77. You get to use ninjutsu ratios here, so the calculation is .8((120/5)4)

Alright. So Miso and I sat down and brain stormed a bit and I'm digging what came out of it. It should be a lot closer to current NA. Demonic Ice Crystal Blood: Dropped the wind aspect, brought it to -3 Eternity of White Frost: Changed how this works! Now an essence economy that grows with the user and spills out to the rest of the bloodline. It's also been updated to follow current Hypothermia rules and allows for a lot of choice. And it has a neat bonus for those who invested in wind! Cold Sorrow: Same. Spell of the Frozen Angels: One big dead elephant in the room! As much as I loved Cyanosis, after many months of contemplation I threw in the towel for trying to get it to sync with the system and now it's replaced with some more versatility on the essence economy. Also it blends in with signature jutsu!

I really enjoy the concept of how this plays out and think the synergy of this yokai is really well done! That said, there is only one thing that I feel needs adjustment. The Dark Element: Normally yokai get one free element/archetype up to tier 1 combo. You're using that space for elemental archetype and that's fine. You've played around with dark so that it's accessible at earlier levels and at its top levels can get you 4 dark attacks, potentially 5 with the jutsu which sounds like it's nearing up their for regular dark usage at high levels but I think overall it's decently balanced, but still stretches further than a passive skills should. Primarily because it's dark. Passive bonuses traditionally fall in the 1 SP to a stretchy 1SP. This is at least a 2SP effect IMO. Ordinarily, Dark would cost -5 but due to the passive skill and restrictions I'd call it balanced if you slapped a 1SP tag on that passive bonus and added a hindering in there. TLDR; Occasional dark should cost 2SP, right now you've paid for 1SP worth.
