~Vital Statistics~

Name: Hiroshi Akio

Clan:None

Birthplace:Iwagakure no Sato

Current Residence: Iwagakure no Sato, apartment in the western side of the village.

Age:16

D.O.B.: Summer 2099

Sex:Male

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~Appearance~
-Height: 6', on the dot.
-Weight: 161 lbs.
-Hair Color: Dark brown.
-Eye Color: Dark brown.
-Clothing: Akio never developed a taste for refined or overly ornate clothing. He is usually wears a simple, collarless, long-sleeve shirt. This can range in color from tan to black, but is usually a dark blue color. He also wears dark-colored pants. He wears his Hitai-ate high on his head, but may pull it down onto his brow to shade his eyes. He prefers to be shoeless, especially when fighting, but will don a pair of brown, leather sandals when he feels appropriate.
-Physical Description: He is of a medium build, with little to say about either excess muscle or excess fat. He is light-skinned, but not quite enough to be called pale. He keeps his face free of hair, but the hair on his head is long enough to just cover the tops of his ears. Apart from keeping it out of his eyes, Akio leaves it to its own devices. Nevertheless, it is clean. He has well-defined facial features that fit well to a grin, but not comically so. His nose is slightly larger than the norm, but again, not really to a degree to seem strange.
~Persona~
Personality: Akio is a sociable person. He doesn't look to start trouble, and he doesn't look to belittle others. He can even be friendly, and enjoys a good laugh. Yet, he is, at his very heart, a thinker. So, he is not necessarily the center of attention at all times.
His parents left him with a sense of duty. He understands their sacrifice and is proud of them. Above all, he never forgot his promise to them, to be counted among the great shinobi. Because of this, he pushes himself when he can, just as his grandfather pushed him when he was young.
Akio also learned much from his grandfather, and naturally picked up a few habits and quirks from the strange man. For example, he has a tendency to call people by nicknames, rather than their real name, and can be odd when the mood strikes him.
Pre-Registration History:
It's beautiful, isn't it? It begins with something so small, nothing more than a spark...
Hiroshi Ryoru stood at the edge of the clearing, the look of satisfaction on his face. He was facing the treeline, which had been flooded with shuriken and kunai. Their points dug deep into their targets, from the wood of the trees to the earth itself. Even the few hard-faced stones fell victim to the perfectly executed jutsu. Ryoru reached over with one hand and took hold of the handle of a kunai that was buried in the closest tree. It came loose only after a mighty tug on his part. "Hah!,” he declared proudly, "Let's see anybody get through that technique!”
"Impressive,” came a familiar feminine voice. The man turned as he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. His eyes met those of his wife, a woman by the name of Shina. "But, I'm afraid it's been done before”, she finished with a mischievous smile. Her husband shot back a grin of his own, saying, "Oh, I can assure you, nobody has done it quite like this.” As his words concluded, he brought his hands together and began to form symbols and shapes among his fingers. The woman put her own hand on his and their motions ceased. She shook her head and indicated the bundle of cloth that she was carrying.
With a nod of understanding, Ryoru swept his hand across the surface of the bundle to pull back the cloth and reveal the face of a baby boy. The small figure, awakened by the sudden rush of light, reached upwards toward a gleaming object. He waved his arms and uttered several primitive sounds of want. With a knowing smile, the father reached up and slipped the medal, the very same one that had the village symbol forged into its surface, off of his head and into the waiting arms of his child.
"What do you think his life will be like?”, whispered Shina as she saw the baby take hold of the medal. He began to twist it curiously, making the light dance across its surface.
"We are at peace and the village is flourishing. There is no doubt, the future looks bright. Our son will be able to choose whatever life he wishes,” he assured her. He too watched his son marvel at the object.
"Hmmm”, agreed Shina with a small smile, "by the looks of it, little Akio has already chosen.”
...It dances gracefully, this way, then that. Don't be fooled. It is untamed, unpredictable. It moves to a song unheard...
"Why must I stay with grandpa?”, whined the young boy. He stared up at his parents, hoping for the sudden change of heart that would not come. They both gave him loving smiles, but he could tell that they were forced expressions, even in the dim light of the moon. "We told you, Akio,” answered his mother as gently as she could, "your father and I are leaving home for a little while, and we don't know when we will return... Your grandfather will care for you until then.”
"But, he is so strange... why must you go?!”, he blurted. This time, it was his father who answered, saying, "The people who control the village, they are... bad people. We have to do what we can to keep them from hurting you and the other villagers.” He paused to let his words sink in. Akio felt his father's hand pat him on the head. "Hah! But we want to see what a great shinobi you have become when we return!”
"I will be a great ninja!”, returned the naïve Akio with enthusiasm. "Keep to your studies and you will”, reassured the father. The words would not be lost on the child.
The little family embraced one another, mother, father and son. Each tried desperately to hold back the tears for the sake of the rest. The little clearing was silent save for the repetitive song of a few lonesome crickets. Out of the corner of her eye, Shina saw a telltale flickering of warm light. The glow stretched the shadows of the treeline, their dark silhouettes reaching into the clearing. Slowly, ever so slowly, the light grew brighter.
From the forest came the figure of an old man. He was short. He wore little more than a plain, gray shirt, tan pants and sandals. Apart from his large nose, the wrinkles of time were clearly visible on his face. He saw the world through lively, brown eyes. The lanky hair on his head was thin and silver, like smoke shining in the moonlight. He held a single, large candle to light the way. With little more than a nod, the elder took Akio by the arm and began to lead him into the forest. His parents watched them leave. As the pair walked away, he spoke to the boy, saying "I never get visitors out here in the mountains.... Don't worry, Tort', the road is long, but there will be fireflies along the way”
...But beneath all of the chaos and all of the disorder, there are rules that it must follow. There are steps to the dance, however subtle....
"Yes!”, Akio yelled triumphantly. He stared in satisfaction at the crudely defined target that had been scrawled across the face of the tree ahead of him. Three very sharp kunai were buried deep into the wood at its center. The target was small, so it was quite an accomplishment for the young shinobi-to-be.
He jumped with excitement and ran towards the tree. He took hold of two of the kunai, one in each hand, and, with a mighty tug, wrenched them from the tree.
"Very well done, Pine Cone,” came an aged voice. Akio's grandfather revealed himself from the other side of the tree. "But,” he continued as he pulled the last kunai with surprising ease, "how are you with your ninjutsu studies?” He suddenly tossed the kunai at Akio. It sped through the air. His aim was true. It landed with a thunk, handle first, of course. It was not a human body that it hit, but a rock. The smoke from the body substitution technique soon cleared.
"See for yourself”, said Akio with another victorious smile evident on his face. He was now standing a short distance away from his original place.
"Hah! Well then, if you are so smart: Tell, me, somebody has been sneaking looks at my private scrolls. Do you happen to know anything about this?” A sly smile played along his lips as he asked this question.
"Well... um...”, he began in answer, "I may have... looked at a few of them. But, I just wanted to learn what you are always going on about.”
"Oh?,” returned the old man with a raised brow, "And what did you learn?”
"I... I didn't really understand what the scrolls said”, he admitted.
"I will just have to explain it to you then”, concluded the knowing elder, "You see, the earth is kept in balance by two powers. One, you already know about. It is solid, stable and unchanging. It manifests itself greatest in the rocks around us and the very ground beneath our feet.” As he said this, he made a single hand motion. The hard soil at his feet suddenly sprang to life and reshaped itself into a spherical shape. He picked it up and turned it over, revealing a large hole and a hollowed-out center. "But,” he continued, "There is another power, one that is more subtle. It is always moving, always flowing. It is chaotic in nature and is best shown by...
"Fire!”, Akio said in amazement as a single flame appeared at the center of the hollow sphere. He pondered on this and tried to understand what the man was saying. "How do you know so much?”, he asked, dumbfounded by his wisdom.
"Let's just say this old geezer learned a few tricks in his youth”, he responded with a mischievous smile. "These forces,” he returned to his illustration, "exist in all things. With enough practice, one can learn to control them.” He turned the sphere over and placed it back onto the ground. Suddenly, it shot upwards into the air, propelled by a fiery tail. Akio's eyes followed it and he saw when it exploded, leaving a dazzling array of embers.
"Can... can you teach me how?”, he asked.
Akio's grandfather considered the request carefully as he saw the final embers fading away. "That is enough studying for today”, he picked up the kunai that he had tossed earlier. "Come, Thumper, let us go chase fireflies together.”
...When you see the steps and you know the song, you can begin to change it. One note here, or another. You can change the dance, make it yours....
Akio let out a yell as he leaped into the air. Using a nearby rock for leverage, he sailed high, twisting his body. "One!”, he yelled, throwing a shuriken in mid-leap. It hit its target squarely. "Two!”, he continued, still in the air. The metal weapon sliced through the air and sank into another target, just beyond the first one. He landed lightly. Now facing the other direction, he counted off, "Three!”. Another shuriken left his fingers. It, too, made a b-line for another wooden target. It would have hit too, if not for the wooden staff that blocked its way.
"You certainly have taken a liking to that walking stick. What has brought you out this far, Old Oak?” greeted Akio, unfazed at the sudden appearance of his grandfather after so many years. The old man reached up and pulled the tiny weapon out of the top of his walking stick and walked towards his grandson, saying, "I am getting old, and my roots do not hold me up as well as they used to. I have come to see how my acorn has progressed in his studies. Tell me, Cricket, have you heard? The news from the valleys is that the world has been freed once more.”
Akio considered this news, "That is good, but what does that have to do with you or I? We've never taken stock in the troubles of the village before.”
"Let us see how far along you are with your ninjutsu”, he said as he pointed to a nearby boulder with his staff. Akio didn't question the sudden change of topic. Instead, he began to make swift hand motions. The grandfather just as swiftly brought his walking stick down, pushing Akio's hands apart. "Your personal jutsu,” he clarified.
Akio nodded in understanding and returned his attention to the boulder. He concentrated hard, making motions with his hands that were different than the first. Suddenly, a great flame burst from the rock, flowing like the waters of a spring. Then, just as quickly as it had appeared, the fire was gone, leaving no evidence to its existence. Akio nodded his head in satisfaction. His grandfather stared at the boulder, the unhappy look of disapproval on his face. Seeing this, Akio returned a bewildered look of his own.
"No”, began the elder, "This will not do. This will not do at all. You have been with me for three long years and this is what you have accomplished?!” Akio began to interrupt, but was stopped by the thump of the elder's stick against the ground. "Well,” he continued as his facade began to give way to a mischievous smile, "it cannot be helped then. You have learned quickly, far to quickly for an old geezer to keep up. Scrub, you must continue your studies among other shinobi, at the ninja academy in Iwagakure no Sato.” A broad and unashamed grin now graced the man's old face.
"Wha-what?”, stuttered Akio with disbelief.
"The plans have already been made. I have a friend who is visiting the valley. He will take in until you find your own place in the village. You will leave two days from now.” The pair stood in silence for a moment in the bright sun.
"I will come and visit whenever I can”, Akio finally said with a voice full of gratitude.
"I will be here when you do,” returned the proud voice, "But, Turtle, the-”
"I know, I know.” interrupted Akio with a laugh, "fireflies.”
...Just remember Akio, that some things cannot be changed.
Akio was surprised to hear his own name come from those aged lips. The old man pressed the wick between his thumb and forefinger, thereby extinguishing the lonely flame. The only evidence that it had even existed was the small wisp of smoke that rose solemnly into the air. Akio watched it dissipate as it was carried off by the night's breeze. His grandfather, candle and all, left him to sit thoughtfully under the cool light of the summer moon, but not before placing an envelope on the ground next to him. Akio took the envelope and examined it closely. It was an old thing, its edges corn and wrinkled. Save for the destination and return address, which had been typed, there were no special markings. He opened the thing and unfolded the two documents that were contained within.
His heart dropped as he read those two names. He knew them well, and had dreamed frequently of being reunited with their owners. His eyes swelled with tears at the sight of the three simple letters that spelled their fate: KIA. In his heart, he had always known this to be true, and it never really bothered him after a time. His grandfather had been his family. He couldn't have possibly believed that he would see his parents again after so many years. Yet, he had always hoped....
He was a shinobi now. He wiped his face and stared across the clearing. It was as quiet save for the sound of a single cricket.
"Huh... Fireflies...”
Path of the Scholar -1
Akio spent much of his time studying with his grandfather, or even on his own. This is primarily how he began his shinobi training, and the discipline never left him as he grew older. One of the skills that Akio's grandfather impressed upon him as very important was the art of scroll-writing. This can easily transition into using jutsu from scrolls.
-Character gains 1 extra jutsu point per level
-May gain 2 ranks of 'Scroll Arts' for 1 skill point
-May gain 2 ranks of 'Scribe' for 1 skill point
Scribe [Rank 2] -1
Akio has learned to write onto scrolls from his granfather
-You may inscribe techniques into scrolls. These techniques have ½ of the original posts/damage. Any technique that ends up being a number less than one cannot be inscribed within the scroll.
Subtle Elements: Fire -1
While Akio learned of earth from his village, he learned of fire from his grandfather.
-You may learn an elemental jutsu that is not from your village.
Merciful +1
Fresh mountain air and a loving household is good, but it is no atmosphere to raise a cold-hearted killer. As such, Akio is never quite ready to deal the final blow.
-Whenever you would deal the finishing blow in combat to an opponent, you must let them live with one HP left, only applies once a battle.
