Clan: Dorobou
Birthplace: Unknown
Current Residence: Otogakure no Sato

Date of Birth: 2101
Sex: Female

-Appearance-

Height: 49-50"
Weight: 57 lb
Hair Color: Dark Auburn
Eye Color: Dark Green

Physical Description:
Takara's eyes are dark but very green. Their color is unmistakable. She knows this because people tell her how much they look like her father's. They are big and almond shaped and come to a point on both ends. Her hair is very dark, almost black, with the exception of a copper shimmer that silhouettes around each strand upon being stricken with light. Her hair was once long and whirly, but she cut it down into a bob. Her bangs form a single swirl over her forehead, reminiscent of her long hair, that she attempts to hide continuously but utterly fails to do so. Her skin has an interesting golden brown color that is not seen often in Oto, if ever. People assume that this color must come from her mother's unknown clan. Here lips are a skin tone pink, the top lip protrudes out into a point which is buckled into her, much fuller, bottom lip when she is openly disgruntled. Her eyebrows and nose turn a pink hue when embarrassed. This she is conscious of and also tries to hide to very little success. Tattooed to her left palm is the "sign of the crow" which she generally keeps covered under cloth wrapping, since there is no need to reveal it, and give away her identity, outside of combat.

-Persona-

Personality:

Takara has had many contrary almost contradictory influences. The village speaks about her father, Yashiro Dorobou, as a hero, yet she can see many secretly resent him. Her grandfather, Daichi Dorobou, only speaks harshly about his missing son, yet never scolds Takara for acting in ways that are similar to her father. He also attempts to instill ethical principles in her but disappears, for days at a time, leaving her to roam the streets with what he calls “Dorobou riff-raff”. The other village clans have monstrous blood-lines and/or fantastical alien-like abilities that they abuse to whatever ends they choose, while the members of her clan seem relatively normal except for their mass kleptomania. Her village was founded by an international criminal to hide all his atrocities, yet many of the present day villagers speak favorably about heroes and virtues acts.

Takara concluded a long time ago that there is no explanation for these opposing forces, there is no divine being, there is no Jashin god of destruction, the universe is not fated in a single direction, and the will is too weak to be praised or culpable for anything. Instead, Takara concluded the only explanation is probability, luck. Her concept of luck is far removed from that of destiny. Luck, to Takara, is a property of a person. There is no good luck or bad luck. There is only potential to have something unexpected happen, and this potential is only manifested in risk to reward. The more potential a person has, and the more they are willing to risk, the weightier the ‘bend’ is on reality, until “voila!” fortune is returned with equivalent effects.

She personally ranks other individuals by their willingness to risk. Those that risk she holds in high regard, while those that will not are fundamentally inferior. In the same sense she ranks people by their potential; therefore, she feels deep sympathy for those she believes lack the potential to risk much, and honors them for risking anything at all, while harshly judging those with much but risk nothing.

This world view has allowed her to be proud of her clan, for they risk much for what some would perceive as very little. Also she dislikes Grimleal for their schism with the original Jashinist viewing the original as closer to true beings of fortune; though, she still views them as silly for their worship of a god of destruction because the path in which they take can only yield one result, destruction. In this way, Takara would see no difference in moral quality between goals such as wanting to become Kage of one’s respective village, or wanting to destroy one’s village for revenge.

It is important to note that Takara’s belief system does not mean that she is always reckless. When she is contemplating the ratio of risk to reward of a situation, she is cool, cautious, and often introverted, playing “cat’s cradle” string games with herself as she thinks. At other times, she is warm, impetuous, playful and dynamic in her expression.

She has been gifted with the ability to speak and keep quiet, which can be used to manipulate, wound or dominate others when needed. In fact, Takara can be quite mischievous, impish, and even cruel when the occasion presents itself.

It is for these reasons, Takara easily gains the trust of many, but perhaps shouldn't.

Like the rest of her clan-kin Takara has a natural attraction to treasure of various kinds. When she sees a trinket she wants, her hands begin to itch before they begin to sweat. Generally, she believes her potential should be saved for other risks, usually attempting to distract herself with string games. Unfortunately, this seldom works.

History:

The only thing Takara Dorobou really knew about her father came from history books or things her grandfather had told her:

“Yoshiro Dorobou used his superior knowledge of espionage to bravely gather information on the NCIA during its occupation of our country. The information he provided was critical in repelling the invaders, allowing us to regain our independence.” –Oto history text book

After the war, Yoshiro mysteriously vanished. Some say that he was assassinated by rogue Fell who blamed him for their “stolen” valor. Others say that he got cornered for his Bingo Book bounty. This is the story that most of the villagers seemed to believe. “Most” with at least one exception, Yoshiro’s father.

Takara’s grandfather, Daichi Dorobou, was well aware that he was a decedent of one of those stray clans that joined Dorobou late, and was damn well proud of it. “… A clan? You mean a den of thieves,” he would say. “Well, what were our original ancestors like?” Takara would ask, forming a ladder with string. “Espionage. They were fine practitioners of the art of espionage!” The old man would answer. “But, isn’t espionage just the stealing of information?” she said, this time holding up a string outline of a hand. “That is not the point little girl. They had honor. Real honor! That makes a world of difference.”

Takara knew well that this was one of the nicer things her grandfather had to say about the village, the clan, the street clubs, the stray dog, the local corner prostitute, the neighbor’s kids, and pretty much anything else, especially his son.

For instance, “Your father... the 'espionage expert'. He was not only a thief and a scoundrel, but also a greedy materialist. He stole from the villagers and his own kin. Shit, I have trouble counting on these two hands how many times he took from me. He could have used that skill of his to resolve some of the issues in the clan, perhaps become Kage, but no! He was just too good for that. It was all about the thrill and the loot for him [...] Ha, people think he died for the honor of his country. Well, I am going to go ahead and tell you that that son of a b*tch is alive. He is probably soaking it up in some brothel or bath house, and making sure to stay as far away from his village and family obligations as possible” he would rant on and on. In fact, he ranted so much about Yoshira that Takara learned just to never bring him up.

Takara also learned to never ask about her Mother. “Your mom. I don’t know anything about that. That idiot son of mine just showed up with you. I almost had a heart attack… thought he had stolen you from some other village. Still would think that if you hadn't ended up looking so much like him.”

Though her grandfather was old, bitter and completely out of his mind, she still loved him. Plus, he would be gone days at a time scavenging old war sites for sellable loot. This gave her an opportunity to play with the other kids in the clan without his knowledge. Her grandfather had made two things taboo in their house hold, stealing and hanging around Dorobou riff-raff, which only made this risk more delightful.

Her grandfather did have a few redeeming qualities. These Takara made sure to cherish. Every other week, he would take her out to one of the old battlefields to salvage ninja tools and maybe find a rare little item for herself. “Everyone always hides their best treasure in death,” he would always say. This would always make her laugh; though, she had no idea what the crazy old bag of dirt ever meant by something so morbid. She was just happy to know he still shared something with his clan and her.

Honestly, their biweekly “junk hunts” became one of her favorite things to do. She loved nothing more than sifting through scraps piling up a few gems here and there and then taking them back to show grandfather. He would always look at each piece closely commenting as he went, like a mother combing through a child’s hair. After he was done he would give her a big smile, and tell her which one was his favorite.

Her relationship with her clan kin was conflicted. On the one hand, they treated her with homage and respect because her father in some sense did make a name for the clan. On the other hand, who asked to be put on the map? As a clan of thieves, there were many who would have liked to stay under the radar for very practical reasons. There were still many thirsty for Dorobou blood, and Yoshiro not only reminded those who did, but also added to their numbers.

Often the Dorobou riff-raff would go to the upper part of the village, to play. On their way they would converse with the corner prostitutes, harass the middle men of local drug peddlers, and look into shops full of things they could not buy. When they got to the upper side they always played “Pick, Barrow, Con”. A game designed to help hone their young minds and skills for their future role as shinobi. One of the children would pick a target for another. The child whose turn it was would have to decide between con or barrow. If they picked barrow they would attempt to move an item from one of the targets pockets to another, without the target noticing of course. If they picked con they would try to get the target to openly express sympathy with some sob story. Tears counted double.

My father was the Yoshiro Dorobou, and I never knew him but my grandfather hates him…-Takara lost for telling the truth during a game of “Pick, Barrow, and Con” nevertheless her target shed a few tears.

I discovered a letter addressed to me …from my father explaining how he had to go join the rebellion, because it was the only chance at a true harmony, the only chance at a peaceful world for a small child. He wished there was another way, but after the passing of my Mother… the thought of losing that last piece of her was too much for him. He said he would face the horrors of war with head raised high knowing, at the very least, he was keeping me safe. He said I was his last real treasure… That is why he named me Takara… so I would always know that I am his- Takara lying during a game of “Pick, Barrow, and Con”. Her grandfather named her.

The other kids quickly realized that the game needed to be amended for Takara, allowing her to only pick barrow. Her grandfather would not be happy about this, though. It isn’t really stealing, and it helps with my shinobi training she justified to herself. It wouldn’t have mattered to Daichi. Like anything else he abhorred ninja and their training alike.

“That one” the boy pointed sinisterly. The target was definitely an uptown regular, about the age of 20 with slicked silver hair and a black pin stripped suit. Takara noticed something strange. As, he lifted his hand from the pocket of his pants. Around his wrist was a bracelet made of barb wire tightly bound in such a way to consistently draw blood. “Lousy Grimleal…” she sneered.

“You sent her to barrow from a Grimleal. They are sexual sadist, hedonist, maniacs… he will probably kidnap and torture her!” one of the boys scolded, but it was too late, Takara was already on the move. She staggered toward him and with a bump grabbed the first item she felt in his pocket. The treasure's silver gleam captivated her, but in that small moment of hesitation the man lowered his eyes. She was caught. The other children dispersed as she attempted to escape, hitting an ally in a dead end. Looks like my luck has ran out she sighed to herself.

A shadow casted over her from the entrance of the alley opening. She gripped the treasure as he moved ever closer toward her. She knew it was too late to give it back, lifting her hands to defend herself. The man paused. “Do you know who I am little girl?” he asked. The most trouble I have ever been in. “You are one of the Grimleal…” she answered. The man began to snicker.

“That is not what I meant, but yeah. I suppose I am.. Grimleal. Please, I prefer you call me Instructor Wanabe,” still grinning. “Have you got an opportunity to look at what you are holding in that hand?” Takara had forgotten about the treasure, already concluding she was just another kid that vanished in some silent ally. She opened her palm and looked. Though it was on accident, the first thing she had ever stolen was an Oto forehead protector.

“Welcome Takara Dorobou, daughter of Yoshiro Dorobue, to the rank of Genin, and congratulations at being one of the first of your class and your clan to gain this honor. You have proven you have what it takes to be a great shinobi by showing an aptitude toward bravery, cunning, ambition, and most importantly a soundness in risk.

"But, I hesitated...?”

“Hesitation is an instance of contemplation. An important characteristic of a good shinobi. You are a in the rough right now, but when you are cut and polished that same inclination toward hesitation will be tempered into a skill of precision” Here is your additional prize, he threw down a bag of coins at her feet. “We will be watching you grow Takara, please do not disappoint us,” the instructor said before walking away and disappearing into the streets.

Takara sighed. glad I didn't grab the coins...
