Pwnzie Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 (edited) Magen; Onryō No Jutsu | Demonic Illusion; Vengeful Ghost Technique |魔幻・怨霊の術 Type: Genjutsu [General | Hijutsu; Uchiha | Response] Rank: Jonin Cost: .25x Effect: This technique may only be used during the Response Phase while the Sharingan is activated. For the purpose of cost calculation “X” is equal to the base cost or total damage of a physical attack, whichever is higher of the two. Targeted attack is negated including damage and effects. The user of the negated attack gains half of the total cost of chakra and stamina spent on the negated attack. Negated attacks that have a usage limit are considered having been used for the duration of battle, including skills that are used on the technique. This technique has a 5% chance to fail per rank of the negated attack or technique. This technique may be used (2) times per battle. When this technique is used the user may take no action in the following Set-Up or Main Phase. Description: This technique has been used by the Uchiha clan for generations as a means of demoralizing their enemy. By using the suggestive powers of the Sharingan, the user targets their opponent with a preemptive genjutsu. The enemy who is hopelessly trapped in the user’s illusion then sees a world completely different from reality, though identical to it. This genjutsu forces the target to believe that they are attacking the user of this technique, but in reality they are standing completely still. This technique gained the name Demonic Illusion; Vengeful Ghost because as the illusion dissipates the battle ravaged user once again appears whole and unharmed to their attacker. Cellar Door Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 You defeated the purpose of this jutsu. Weapon attacks don't have usage limits, so you can't use Onryo to run out their attacks with usage limits. It's basically just setting yourself up to be attacked in the exact same way next turn because all of their resources are returned, and now you're paying like 3 times as much as you were on the old one.The usefulness of the jutsu was questionable in the old version because few people have scary things like Reverse Lotus or Rasenshuriken that have limits. But now it can't block those sort of things.
Kouta Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 (edited) ...I don't see the "resub" part of this. It looks exactly the same, except that you're trying to cheese the cost by specifically pointing out the "cost of damage" which needs to be changed to "the cost of an unresolved series Basic Attacks, series Weapons Attacks, or one Technique" Also, considering most negation jutsu cost X where x = the cost, this, at mminimum, would cost .5x, not .25x. Pwnzie Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 (edited) Most RPJ's dont give their opponents chakra or stamina back, the only reason this is being 'resubbed' is because a chunin level technique cant negate damage from all sources, but a jonin level one that also refunds chakra/stam from the cost in theory could. The refund on chakra/stam was also my justification for a lower cost. Edited November 6, 2015 by Pwnzie
Rhap Sodos Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Since it's a variable cost, the JP cost should be the maximum for the rank (8 JP). 1
Rhap Sodos Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Sorry, nitpicking: Negate all damage, ghost damage, and all effects of the unresolved series of attacks. "Series of attacks" makes it sound like you can use this technique against multiple incoming attacks simultaneously (e.g. if your opponent had multiple phase actions, a single use of this technique can be used to negate all of the attacks). Multi-strike jutsu and weapons with multiple swings are considered single attacks, so it should probably be "all effects of the unresolved attack" - no need for the plural.
cntrstrk14 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Does this cost 0 against a jutsu that does not deal damage?
Hardcore Skittlez Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 This has been sitting here for way too long. I can't approve it, but I can sure as heck bump it.
Peregine Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) I'm not sure how I feel about this negating Sennin or Forbidden techniques. I also can't see any change to stop it from costing nothing when used against a technique that doesn't deal damage? Final point of confusion; 'The user of the negated attack gains an amount of chakra or stamina equal to the cost of the negated attack.' I figure you mean they get what they paid, but clarifying the final cost will stop people from trying to get the base cost back and ending up with more chakra than they started with. EDIT: Main site rules also specify that jonin negation techniques have to apply to either Physical or Nonphysical sources of damage. If you want to cover both, you'll have to double the final JP. Pwnzie Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 Changed it to just physical damage. The line about the user of the negated technique getting back chakra or stamina is referring to the opponent, and I changed it to recieve half the cost of the tech because full cost is a bit too much, but the reasoning behind giving them back stamina or chakra (whichever was used in the technique I am negating, which I can add as a sentence in the tech should it be necessary) was to justify the cost being .25x x being the cost of the negated technique.
Peregine Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Effect: The Sharingan must be active when performing this technique. This technique may only be used in the Response Phase. For the purpose of cost calculation ‘x’ is equivalent to the cost of either physical damage targeting the user of this technique. Negate all damage, and all effects of the unresolved attack. The user of the negated attack gains an amount of chakra or stamina equal to half the cost of the negated attack. Attacks with a usage limit, or skills with a usage limit that modified the negated attack are still considered having been used for the duration of battle. This technique has a 5% chance to fail per rank of the negated attack or technique. This technique may be used 2 times per battle. When utilizing this technique, the user may take no action in the following Set-Up or Main phase. I don't actually see where it covers attacks that do 0 damage, only status effects. As it stands, I could throw out a chuunin 3-turn Bound [Paired Arms] that does 0 damage and it would cost you 0 chakra to negate. That won't fly. To continue the hypothetical, my point about getting stamina/chakra back is this: that Bound [Paired Arms] tech cost me 150 chakra. With cost negation, I brought it down to 80 chakra. Do I get back 75 (base cost) or 40 (reduced cost)? Also, this won't be able to be used against Sennin techniques.
Pwnzie Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Hmm the 0 damage thing is a good point. And continuing your hypothetical, you would get the reduced cost (what you paid in chakra for it back), so if it would normally cost 75, and its reduced to 40, you would get back the 40, since it wouldnt make sense to nearly double the chakra you just spent on the tech im negating. Why wouldnt this be usable against sennin techniques?
Seigen Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 First general rule I guess unless im missing something. Response Phase techniques that negate attacks may only be used against techniques that are of equal or less rank to the technique used. They must reference their own rank, not the rank of the ninja using them.
Leon Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 (edited) ^I'm okay with the cost of this technique at the moment due to attacker receiving half cost back. High fail chance built in at higher ranks where it could hurt you more. Limited usage per battle. To get around the 0 damage we could add a clause that states that x is equal to the higher number between cost or physical damage. Look below at the effect provided below and edit please! I cleaned it up a little bit. This technique may only be used during the Response Phase while the Sharingan is activated. Edited August 17, 2016 by Leon
Pwnzie Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Thanks for the better wording Peregrine! Edited that in should be good to go.
