Genjutsu: Sharingan | 幻術・写輪眼 |  Illusion Technique: Copy Wheel Eye [status Effect]

Type: Genjutsu [ Dōjutsu; Sharingan ]

Rank: [see Effect]

Cost: xy Chakra

Effect: When determining the cost of this technique ‘x’ is considered to be the CP value of a status effect chosen when purchasing this technique and ‘y’ is equivalent to a value determined by the user. The target of this technique is afflicted with y turns of the chosen status effect. The value of ‘y’ may never exceed the normal duration of the chosen status effect. This technique’s rank is based on the user’s rank in the skill ‘Sharingan Hypnotism’ (i.e: 1; Genin, 2; Chunin, 3; Jonin, etc) and may never exceed the cost of a technique of that rank.

Description: While renown for their fighting prowess, the Uchiha clan are feared as adversaries above all else due to the unique hypnotic attributes of their Sharingan Kekkei Genkai; this attribute is commonly identified as a technique, or series thereof, referred to as "Genjutsu: Sharingan". Genjutsu: Sharingan may be cast by simply establishing eye contact with their intended victim, thereby locking that target within an illusion whose purpose may be adapted to fit the user's needs at that time. In fact, illusions dreamed forth by Genjutsu: Sharingan do not have any established form and may vary wildly from user to user, though they are known for achieving results from binding a target in place to extracting information from an individual- and in some cases, it may even be utilized to remove a previously cast Genjutsu upon another. No matter its versatility in form and function, Genjutsu: Sharingan is primary reason that many shinobi are advised to avoid combat with Uchiha clansmen unless they have a superior number, and even then they are advised never to look an Uchiha in the eyes.

JP: -4 JP

Designer's Notes

Big shout out to KC for giving me the design here. I think that this is a clean and easy way to address one of the features of Sharingan Hypnotism without granting them Seal-Less Genjutsu to basically every genjutsu they would feasibly use. This is intended to be purchased many times, and for the sake of ease, I made the JP cost a solid -5 JP. This should cover basically any status effect/turn duration combination. Sharingan found here.

I actually really like the idea behind this technique, I don't see any issue with it even as far as the point cost of it. The only thing I'm unsure of is the variable rank thing, but since that is tied to a skill in the bloodline which can only be taken in certain intervals, I think it might be ok.

Consider this an APPROVAL, but I'd like someone else to weigh in on the rank thing.

This should probably just be "Dojutsu; Sharingan" and not have the clan restriction. Since it's a big portion of a bloodline branch, it'd be a real kick in the dick to lock out a transplantee from being able to use it. There's also a solid canon support for this since Kakashi's used it a few times.

The Forbidden techniques are also classified as Hijutsu: Uchiha. The Sharingan skills themselves let you purchase this technique just regardless of your clan affiliation-- at least by my interpretation of ti.

Ah, alright, if the mangekyo ones are Uchiha too, then I guess that's fine. Though in later iterations (since its always inevitable) it might be just easier to remove the Uchiha requirement from stuff that's inherent to the Sharingan.

I don't think -4 sounds appropriate at all, honestly. It's max CP for genin rank sure and covers most statuses for max duration, but this technique eventually extends to any status effect for any standard duration, seallessly, at will, with unlimited uses (and no cost increase). The sheer versatility is staggering and while I really like the mechanics and flavour of the technique, there's no way it's equal in overall value to a vanilla genin nuke. It has the potential to cast techniques that would usually be 13JP Sennin ghost-bleed nukes, more than triple the current JP of the technique. Of course, most single statuses at their max duration won't come close to that cost (metabolic statuses notwithstanding) and we do want this to be taken by genin, so I'd suggest 8JP instead.

This has to be purchased once for each status effect you want to be able to inflict with it, is at -8, you'd end up spending something like 160 JP on this over the lifetime of the character. Beyond that, let's break down some bleeding damage and cost numbers.

Genin

Genjutsu Damage Cap: 60

Genjutsu Damage Ratio: 1:1

Cost of 60 Bleeding Damage: 60 * .8 = 48 | This is 3 JP.

Chunin

Genjutsu Damage Cap: 90

Genjutsu Damage Ratio: 4:5

Cost of 90 Bleeding Damage: [90 * (4/5)] = 72, 72 * .8 = 58 | This is 2 JP.

Jonin

Genjutsu Damage Cap: 270

Genjutsu Damage Ratio: 2:3

Cost of 270 Bleeding Damage: [270 * (2/3)] =  180, 180 * .8 = 144 | This is 4 JP.

Sennin

Genjutsu Damage Cap: 600

Genjutsu Damage Ratio: 2:3

Cost of 600 Bleeding Damage: [600 * (2/3)] = 400, 400 * .8 = 320 | This is 5 JP.

Using Bleeding as the "worst case scenario" here, we can see that the actual value of the technique only surpasses the listed -4JP at Sennin Rank, and is actually more expensive than a normal max bleeding technique would be at Genin and Chunin ranks. Out of the Status Effects listed on the revamped list(pulled from Artificer Chat), the only one that would cause this to exceed -4 JP at any level is Asleep @ 50/turn with up to 5 turns, while a large majority of the other status effects actually land significantly under the JP cost listed. -4 is probably the most "fair" number we can pull as a general cost on this without having each purchase of the technique calculate its JP cost independently.

Post Thought: I actually went and counted all of the status effects in the revamp- and it landed at something around 52. This means that at current cost, you will spend 208 JP to have a Genjutsu: Sharingan for every listed status effect at -4 JP per purchase. at -8, that'd double to 416-- which is way too much to be even slightly feasible.

My mistake. if you have to buy it for each rank then I'm happy with -4. Just, as written it looks like the technique grows as ranks in sharingan hypnotism, re-purchasing it is never mentioned.

Just thought I'd field this for Peter since he's probably asleep.

This is sort of like an evolving technique, but its growth is horizontal. Instead of buying stronger ranks, you buy the technique additional times and its treated like a whole seperate technique. Genjutsu; Sharingan [Frozen] for instance is not Genjutsu; Sharingan [blind]. They're both Genjutsu; Sharingan, but can each only inflict a single status effect and have to be purchased separately, since you choose one status effect when buying the technique.

I tried to do something like this awhile ago with Demonic Illusion; False Terrain, but it was more difficult to create a genjutsu that applied terrain effects. It's more easily focused here.

Also, the last line in the effect section of the technique needs a period.
