Princess Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) Name: Traumatic Memories Description: Something horrible has happened to you in the past, something unimaginably painful lurks in the back of your mind. You may believe you have moved on, but it is always there, lurking in the background, and under the right stimulus it can come back in flashes, filling you with all the fear you felt that fateful day.Effects: When you take this skill, name a traumatic event, or a character/object that directly caused that event. The first time in each thread you are confronted with a new source of that stimulus, roll on the below table. In addition, techniques which already inflict fear that are flavoured to take advantage of this hindering do not roll, and instead increase the duration of Afraid by 1, ignoring normal maximums. This is not a once per battle effect. Spoiler 1: You suffer from Afraid [4] for 3 turns. 2: You suffer from Afraid [4] for 2 turns. 3: You suffer from Afraid [4] for 1 turn. 4: You suffer from Afraid [3] for 3 turns. 5: You suffer from Afraid [2] for 2 turns. 6: You suffer from Afraid [2] for 1 turn. 7: You suffer from Afraid [1] for 3 turns. 8: You suffer from Afraid [1] for 2 turns. 9: You suffer from Afraid [1] for 1 turn. 10: You suffer from Distracted for 1 turn. Cost: +1Acceptable Traumas: The following is a list of staff approved traumatic memories you may choose from freely when taking this skill. If you wish to take anything not listed here, you may only do so with staff permission. Spoiler -Creatures: Perhaps it was a spider, or a snake or maybe even a crocodile that traumatised you. Whenever you are faced with a creature that matches the one that caused you to be traumatised you are affected with this skill. Must be a species, not a specific sub-species, so you could take Traumatic Memories [Dogs] but not Traumatic Memories [Saint Bernards].-People: Perhaps it was a person who traumatised you, a man in a shadowy cloak or a loud spoken woman who tortured you. When see someone who is similar to the object of your trauma (same hair, eyes, rough build would be enough, it is not a perfect match but enough to confuse you) then you are affected with this skill. -Places: Perhaps it's not about who did it, but where it happened. A fall from a great height, or being stranded in the deserts of Kaze no Kuni all could the cause of crippling flashbacks. Whenever you go somewhere that matches your description of the place that traumatised you (High areas for traumatic falls, deserts, forests are all good examples) you are affected with this skill.-Actions: What happened to you was so traumatic that you simple cannot process it. To even see it take place is more than you mind can take. When you see an action taken that matches what traumatised you (horrific injuries, being captured by strangers, or even being attacked unawares are all good examples) you are affected with this skill. Princess Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Not gonna lie, this is being made to award to Tokei, but also if it could be balanced as a general +1, that'd be great. At the moment I worry it's a bit too narrow to get the full +1, an issue I have faced in the past. So help flavouring this to be worth the +1 while also representing a traumatic fear of certain things would be great. I know fear of elements exists, but I feel flavouring that 'fear of other things' is worth less, so it's gotta hurt more.
PandaMattMatt Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I'm going to move this to hindering skills. I think it was accidently posted in Positive Skills
Kouta Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Since it only triggers once per battle, there should be no chance that it does nothing. Currently it has a 30% chance to do nothing. That should be 0%. You can just make it a "Roll 1d7" since our die roller can roll anything. I'd also clean up and just say "Genjutsu that already inflict 'Afraid' do not roll on this table, and instead increase their duration by 1, ignoring duration limits on "'Afraid'". I know it is narrower in scope in some respects, as that line will never trigger for people who dont use Genjutsu, but also if its a memory, then very few jutsu outside of Genjutsu are likely to trigger it. Also, if you go look at Tony's "Anxiety Disorder" skill in custom hindering right now, he does a cool thing where he has a table of acceptable choices. Quite frankly, you could give Tokei that and flavor it "Anxiety Disorder; Water" and acheive the same effect, but I think that like most "choose your destiny" hinderings, we should have an idea of acceptable choices for this. Obviously, nobody is ever going to trigger "Traumatic Memories [Oedipus Complex]", so we don't want them to be so obscure that this just becomes a free +1
Princess Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Yes it was meant to be hindering. Alright, I'm removing the chance of no effect. Then I'll add some guideline choices too^^
Princess Posted February 18, 2019 Author Posted February 18, 2019 Traumas are a thing now, this is dead.
