Jashin| | Death Controlling Possessed Blood

latest?cb=20100909154857

Description:Little of Jashin and his ways is known to those who aren't his followers, so named "Jashinists". Jashin demands nothing less than utter death and destruction. In Akatsuki Hiden, Hidan frames this as a public service, saving people from the fear of death by killing them.

Not much is known about Jashinism but has come up several times throughout the shinobi wars. Thought to have started in Yugakure no Sato when the country started to decline from a military shinobihood to a more passive tourist country. Despite this unique and terrifying ability the Jashin faith do not posses a kekkei genkai but rather powerful skills and jutsu.

To my knowledge no one has attempted this. I made it more of a skill based system with no actual bloodline as Hidan was just insane and earned his 'immortality' by sacrificing people to Jashin. I made it a staple of the AS to sacrifice a life every 3 months to keep with the flavour. I also made it revolve around the Jutsu in order to actually do the damage from the show.

Flavor

Okay, so first off I want to say that I have a bit of a problem here on flavor with all of these being Jashin abilities, mostly because cults of Jashin are a large part of the Otogakure story line that I inherited for Team Oto and they have a decent presence across that country and a few others in the north between Hi no Kuni and Rai no Kuni. What that means is that I feel like I would rather make a proper organization that could be joined for these and work what you want to make and what exists into one thing. I'm not going to block your creation of this stuff, but I would like to know how open you are in the future for me to make an organization and require membership in it to gain these skills.

Jashin | Affinity
This is a bit iffy, but it is probably fine if it is tied to an organization. It only works on Bleeds, which are only 1/3rd of the possible unmodified damage types. Usually this type of immunity is left only for bloodlines though. It might be that we want to change this to 10% per rank with 5 ranks instead of 15%. Capping at 50% instead of 60% reduction. My fear here is this stacking with other abilities that reduce bleed or a player getting access to similar abilities for Poison and Burning.

Jashin |  Reaping
This type of bypassing effect isn't really something that we like to do on passive stuff. Bypassing armor abilities is usually on skill locked jutsu, which have a limited number of uses per battle. This just applies to all jutsu with bleeding and has no limit. I would prefer this to be -1 SP with maybe 2-3 ranks and once per battle per rank you can ignore armor that applies bleed. That said, I would personally just drop this and invest in a jutsu or two that just break armor. Change this to something else entirely or, just drop it and focus on 3 skills instead of 4.

Jashin | Everlasting
This is the nutso part of this, let me demonstrate. Best case scenario we are looking at a forbidden jutsu so we can just sidestep the cap limit (more on my problems with this below). If you use a modest CP value to start, let's say 400 CP for a level 120 character, you're looking at base 1000 Bleeding damage on Taijutsu. Now assuming you do this all on one turn, that is 1000 Bleeding damage per turn. This doubles that and gives you an additional +1000 damage. That is pretty insane, no matter the SP cost.

I would suggest instead looking at something like...

Effect: When this character afflicts an opponent with the status effect 'Bleeding', that opponent is afflicted for an additional turn of 'Bleeding' after the current affliction ends that deals x damage, where x is 20% of the total 'Bleeding' damage afflicted.

Jashin | Bloodletting

This is fine in concept (+20% for -4 SP might be too much but I haven't dove in on this), but I don't like the cap limiting part you have (more below). Also, now that we are looking at this, Everlasing and Bloodletting are really doing the same thing but in two different ways. They are both just doing "more" bleed damage. I would honestly cut one and focus on the other, you don't need both since they do the same thing.

Limiting Damage Bonuses Base on Damage Cap

This has popped up on other abilities over time (not just here) and I think its a terribly clunky mechanic, and honestly a bit dumb. Using it once or twice in specific areas is cool, but in reality this is just a cost reduction ability by another name. It also makes an awkward dichotomy where a jutsu that looks like it would be perfect for a character with this build is actually very bad because it's maximum damage on the damage caps, and useless here. Abilities like this force the user to consider what bonuses they will have outside of creation, which isn't bad but is awkward and a lot more work for the player than necessary.

In addition, this limitation often doesn't even help balance the ability as forbidden jutsu have no caps and end up going wild with these type of things.

When you are looking at bonuses like this I think going forward (as a site, not only here) we should really ask the following questions when we consider limiting damage bonuses by the damage caps for a jutsu.

• How broke is this if it just adds the bonus without stopping at the caps?

• Would this be better as a cost reduction ability instead?

I would argue that both answers are better than limiting damage bonuses based on damage caps. Damage caps are a consideration for Jutsu Creation, but having to track them in actual battle as well is a hassle. They should be forgotten ones a jutsu is approved.

Flavour |

For sure man, I didn't know about any of the Oto stuff, if you have information about the current state, that would be fantastic as I took my info from the Naruto era. As for an Organization, I have no issues with that.

Affinity |

Will change to meet you're requirements.

Reaping |

Don't mind dropping

Everlasting|

Will add that effect. I was focused on just adding an extra turn of the effect. Like others that add say 1 more turn of Afraid or whatever. But the damage does out weigh 30 CP of a status effect.

Bloodletting

Ill think of something that fits to have 3 skills.

For the Jutsu, open to anything about it.

As I said via PM, I am cleaning out old threads. You left a skill unfinished, so I'm assuming this entire thing is a WIP. That said, I believe that while the first and second skill can use a bit of clean up, they're fine as-is, so you should focus on the other skill and the tech if you return. I'll give them all a full review if you come back.
