Emergency Repair Kit

An official tool of any puppeteer. Whether used on the battlefield or in their workshop, a repair kit assists a puppeteer with keeping their puppets in pristine condition.

Type: Consumable Item

  • Rank 1 [両400]: Target puppet has its current Durability restored by 80. The amount of durability restored may not exceed its maximum durability. Using this item requires both a Setup Phase and Main Phase action. Only one (1) ‘Emergency Repair Kit’ may be used per battle.
  • Rank 2 [両800]: Target puppet has its current Durability restored by 160. The amount of durability restored may not exceed its maximum durability. Using this item requires both a Setup Phase and Main Phase action. Only one (1) ‘Emergency Repair Kit’ may be used per battle.
  • Rank 3 [両1200]: Target puppet has its current Durability restored by 240. The amount of durability restored may not exceed its maximum durability. Using this item requires both a Setup Phase and Main Phase action. Only one (1) ‘Emergency Repair Kit’ may be used per battle.

Designer Notes:

  • This item is meant for general use.
  • It's meant to be used to assist puppeteers keep their puppets alive during an intense battle.
  • The ranks and costs were inspired by the Blood Increasing Pill. I wasn't sure what would be considered too overpowered though, so I gave it a shot.
  • In order to try to weigh some of the power out though, I increased the weight of the item since a repair could would be heavier than a pill. I also added the use of a set-up phase since it should take some time to actually repair a puppet.

I'm not 100% convinced that this should exist. From a flavor stand point, a repair kit takes time and when battles are measured in minutes, literally no one has time to repair a puppet. We also do not see any example of this being possible in canon, which isnt a requirement, just that we have more evidence that puppets are tools and just barely above disposable. On NA they DEFINITELY arent disposable, but its certainly an out of battle thing to fix a puppet.

Secondly, a puppets durability is also its defense, making that resource like... 1.5x to 2x as valuable as health. So it would need to end up costing even more than a Blood Increasing pill and if we DO let this through, it would need to be capped at like... 300 durability costed at like... 800 or 900 ryo.

I can see where you are coming from. Made a couple of changes to hopefully make it feel a bit more possible.

  • Changed the name so it's more accurate to what it is, an emergency repair kit.
  • Updated the prices so it's more expensive since a puppets defense is so important.
  • Lowered the durability repairs numbers to increments of 80 instead 100 so it maxes at 240.
  • Finally, changed it so it now takes up even the main phase action.

I can get behind these changes. Just so we're clear, I want this to purposefully be less effective to dissuade future similar items. Puppets are already insane and even now there is a strong case against this existing, but I think you're at a good starting point.

I'm not exactly staff ... but the way I read this, is that the user can give the puppet a set amount of health at any turn. While this is great an all, the way it reads, allows for it to be used to potentially increase the puppet's durability past its base value, especially on smaller or medium sized puppets, which is something I don't think should be allowed. At that point, it's no longer being used as a repair kit, and more as a buff kit. I think you should consider adding the phrase "cannot add durability past the puppet's base durability," or something along those lines if you want more luck moving forward with this item's approval. Otherwise, I like the idea of it ... even though I don't see myself using it.

@Tw33ds, please update "Only one (1) ‘Repair Kit’ may be used per battle" to "Only one (1) ‘Emergency Repair Kit’ may be used per battle." Looks like you missed it when you changed the name.

Also, while I don't agree with SpicyCroissants' reading of how this works, there isn't any harm in clarifying it some more. Change the primary effect o "The target puppet has its current Durability increased by ##. Using this item requires both a Setup Phase and Main Phase action." Replace ## with the amount of Durability each rank heals.

Sadly, RaW loving princess has to come in and say almonds' change explicitly makes it do exactly what spicy and indeed myself feared. You can use this on a puppet, and you increase its durability by X. Increase =/= heal or restore or anything like that, it simply increases the value. Thus the increase does not inherently respect caps or anything of the sort and that's the problem.

You would need to add a the line (up to the puppet's starting durability) or something like that, or word it instead like: "Target puppet has its current Durability restored by up to 80.

Restore very clearly implies it is returning what has been lost, you aren't generating durability out of nowhere. I think that's an important change.

Following a short Discord discussion, I agree with Princess. The reasoning for my request was that it would give the effect the exact wording of Blood Increasing and Soldier Pills, keeping the consumables neat and in-line with each other. Given how everything else that affects a Puppet's Durability (parts, Swarm Puppetry) just says that it increases or gives additional Durability, it's best to be safe and return the wording back to restore.
