MadKatters Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Skill Name: Arsenal of the Nekomata Bloodline: Furousha Description: A development following the exposure of the Furousha bloodline to the chakra of a Yōkai, Aria discovered that her feline traits were highlighted by the symbiotic presence of another chakra's presence. Notably, this has lead to a growth of especially keen-edged claws, even among others of the Furousha. Effect: This skill changes the rate at which the claws of Arsenal of the Cat God level up from a rate of 2:3 (Weapon to character) to 1:1 ratio. This doesn't affect the claws or skill in any other way. This does not break the base level cap of [100] without Warlord 'Advanced Weapon Warrior'. Cost: 2 + [3000 Word training while Yōkai Cloak is active.] I linked the core/originating skill in the effect line of this skill but to make it easier for a mod grading/looking at this I've copied it into a spoiler below. Arsenal of the Cat God Effect: User's Basic Attacks are now treated as [Claw] Weapon Attacks. [Claw] is considered a Level 1 Indestructible Medium Weapon, and gains two (2) levels per three (3) of the users levels. These weapons are treated as if they had the attributes "Lightened Craft" and "Sharpened Edge" and follow standard Medium Weapon rules. These weapons may not be unequipped by any means, as they are a natural extension of the body. The bearer of bloodline possess two of these claw weapon, one for each hand. This skill does not prevent its taker from being able to naturally use hand-seals. Cost: -2 Edited January 29, 2015 by MadKatters
MadKatters Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) -2 at a 1:1 Ratio per discussion with Cellar Door via Skype. Edited January 15, 2015 by MadKatters
Kouta Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I dislike this for a couple reasons. One larger than all the others. 1. Why is this personal, when we've seen another Character (Furousha Mamimi) also possess a similar Yokai? In fact, if the clan is yokai focused (as its skill lead us to believe) then anyone with a yokai would likely be able to pull off a similar routine. I'd remove the personal tag, and just make having a Yokai as a requirement. 2. If its Yokai based in reasoning, this should only activate with the Yokai cloak, unless the yokai somehow changes you physically when its not manifested? 3. This is more to do with the base skill than with this one specifically, but we must consider the base skill when considering addendums. The base skill gives you a weapon free of cost, with no one-handed seal requirements for other jutsu, without sacrificing the ability to hold another weapon, without any limitations on attacks per turn or the costs of said attacks. This is very powerful. But, the weapons gained that way could never exceed Level 80. They would always be inherently weaker than a max level weapon with normal weapon drawbacks. Thats what struck the balance in that skill, to me. You sacrificed the power of the weapon to gain it for no money and to have those limitations removed. This erases the sacrifice and keeps all the gains. Now you can have your Level 120 weapon, two of them in fact, and they have no weapon limitations. This seems too powerful to me.
MadKatters Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) 1.) Mami is an NPC that head a similar Yokai, yes and the Furousha do synergize with Yokai.. which was part of the basis for this technique but it wouldn't always make sense. It's the dual feline nature I used for the personal tag on this. I mean, the claws wouldn't get sharper if, for example, a turtle Yokai was fused into a Furousha. If the personal tag upsets you that much, it can go, I just figured it made more sense this way. 2.) It's the synergistic nature of the Furousha with the Yokai that opens the door for this outside of the cloak alone. Just because I'm not in a cloak doesn't mean the Yokai isn't there. The yokai could easily affect the person in some ways just by being in them. At least, that's my reasoning on this.. especially when the bloodline synergizes with the demon already. As for the first two, the personal tag can be removed. I see an argument for and against. 3.) I can't argue/speak to the base skill. That was.. Peter's creation. I see the balance behind it/what you're saying on it though. It's.. 2 SP for 80 Levels, and the weapon. I'm paying.. another 2 SP to get.. 40 Levels. 20 of which I need to pay another 1 SP for a very specific Advanced path for. And then take the very specific subskill from it to get. Very specific path that has to be taken to gain.. another 20 levels. It'd.. be 4 SP For a level 100 Weapon (Counting both skills) And 6 SP, Two paths, and a subskill of the advanced path to get to 120. And... It's.. not really so much two weapons, IMO, I just don't look at it like that. It's a set of two claws, sure. Because my hands turn into them.. but I'm never attacking with both at once. It still goes down to the normal medium weapon rules. I can't attack more times any anyone else with a normal weapon just because I have two of them. Oh, your line about 'no handseals' there's already a weapon trait for that. "Free-handed" It's.. basically what's applied to these claws naturally. Because... hands. Ignore that.... Done some tweaking. Personal tag removed Training requirement while cloak is activated added as further basis. Spoke some with a few people on it and this is the new form it's taken. PandaMattMatt Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) I think this new iteration is fine. -4sp is hefty enough to cover the advantages as well as, you cant just dump a bunch of money or whatever leveling up your claws. I like the training too. Edit; by -4 sp, I meant cumulatively. -2 for base skill, then -2 for this skill. Sorry if I confused anyone! My still stands APPROVED Edited January 30, 2015 by PandaMattMatt
