			As one of the founding Clans of Kirigakure no Sato and the clan to which the Shodai Mizukage belonged, the Kirian Namikaze have long had influence in Village politics. Though they rarely took blatant advantage of their assumed power, they were given a certain amount of autonomy when managing their affairs and governing the members of their clan without interference, and always had a say in Village politics. Historically they held one of the seven spots of the Kirigakure Council (alongside the other great clans) and many of the Village's relics come from Namikaze origins (such as Hiramekarei and the Shodai's pearl).

			Recent history has caused a sharp decline in both the prestige and power that the Namikaze once held. The massacre of the greater portion of the Clan during the reign of the NCIA left only a few dozen survivors in Mizu no Kuni, and [[Namikaze Inukai]]'s actions during the G.E.R.T exams resulted in the Namikaze being removed from the Village Council. While many of the remaining Namikaze care little for the games of power that the other Great Clans use to gain further influence over the Village, others are unhappy with the efforts that Mizukage [[Warrusu]] has taken to punish the Clan due to the actions of an individual member.
