Ryuuza Chouzou was the Juunidaime [[Hokage]] of [[Konohagakure no Sato]].  He preferred not to be called Hokage and never explication tied himself to a clan or family.  He was elected by the Konohagakure Council to assume to position of Hokage for the Resistance, thusly placing [[Sarutobi Mari]] back into retirement.  After [[Amanohara Konpeki]] was presumed dead, Konoha's Resistance forces were kept in secret.  Chouzou assembled the forces in the Forest of Death, where he displayed the corpses of one hundred shinobi and promised power to those who came with him.  He killed the previous Hokage [[Yamamoto Hiruki]].  The Council instilled him secretly to destroy the Resistance.

One day the elders decided I was to much of a danger and decided to ‘eliminate' me and then I was branded as an A-Rank Missing-Nin. I wandered for ages before I got my next job as a Bodyguard… here. I met a young lady here and you can say… we fell in love, though… she's gone now. One day… we were attacked… I protected her and the forces of Kumo fell on me… now not only one-hidden village wanted me… but two. With her at my side I tried to fight off the countless horde of Shinobi… but it was too much… I was overwhelmed, they killed her after. Boy… you saw her image… that was the truth… she saved me. I don't regret being given this false life… as long as I can make up for my sin… I could not protect her. But… this was all a hundred years ago.”

Chouzou was reawakened in his sleeping state by a General of Kumo, known as the "beast man" because of his grotesque characteristics and inhuman strength.  Chouzou was sealed in the Sanctuary of Immure, in the lowest levels of the Unknown Ruins located in the Eastern Oceans.  Chouzou's chakra and strength was sealed into an orb by which this man used to control the Hokage when he was awakened again.  He was used as a puppet to murder the previous Hokage and then appeal to the council.  There was little doubt that Kumogakure was the perpetrator in the assassination of [[Yamamoto Hiruki]] and the council admired Chouzou's strength.  He persuaded them to allow a fraction of Konoha's force to be taken away for training.  He lead a group of eight shinobi, including [[Hyuuga Yatako]] and [[Nepan Shin]]to the Unknown Ruins.  The group were met by a [[Kumogakure]] shinobi force that they easily defeated.  The group then went through a series of trials, in order to reach the bottom of the sanctuary.

The only three survivors were Nara Gensai, [[Nepan Shin]] and Hyuuga Yatako.  Before entering the final trial, he naed the three of them the Brotherhood of Konohagakure and invested in them a jutsu known as the Terror of Konoha.  In the battle against the Beast Man, they successfully shattered the link he had to Chouzou, allowing the Hokage to use the last of his strength to obliterate the last of the forces.  After the battle, he could be seen dwelling in a state of pure chakra with the woman of his life, Hinoi who had woken him from his slumber.  Chouzou left, his famed sword, "Brotherhood" for them.  He was seen once again when the Brotherhood returned to Konoha, initiating [[Chouzou's Charge]].
