Mahiru Sencha is a gennin of Iwagakure no Sato by technicality. Though not particularly skilled in the ninja arts, she's dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge- no matter what the cost.

Appearance

Sencha's hair is chest length and spring green, possessing a natural wave. It is well-maintained and often tied back when performing labor. Her eyes are the same color as her hair with long eyelashes. Her skin tends to be pale with warm undertones, but notably tans in the sunnier months. Although she takes pride in her appearance, Sencha brings to mind utility over cost. Long periods of research or obsession can leak into the upkeep of her hygiene and often lead to split ends and bloodshot eyes. She possesses musculature that would be impressive on a civilian but completely underwhelming to a shinobi. Her lower chest, stomach, and hips seem to be covered in mottled burn scars that Sencha claims to have been sourced from the recent Iwa invasions. These scars do little to inhibit movement but occasionally cause low level pain when performing strenuous activity.

For better or for worse, her wardrobe is an exercise in efficiency. She owns several different 'copies' of the same outfit, more often than not consisting of insulated trousers and a shirt and varying tight-fitting bodysuits that go on underneath. Sencha also owns hiking boots- in a location like Iwa, open toed shoes feel more like a hinderance than anything else. She has a few travelling cloaks in her closet, but they haven't seen much use yet. Generally, all of her clothes tend to look pretty similar; they are just of varying thicknesses based on the current climate. They are nearly all in dull or muted colors.

Personality

Sencha is driven by an obsessive, all-consuming need to undercover the secrets of the world. Although she considers herself a good person, she knows that deep down there might not be a limit to how low she'll bring herself to get the knowledge she desires. The bonds she holds with her village are what roots her in reality- otherwise, she tends to lose her head in the clouds. If she's not constantly learning, improving, or studying, she gets extremely nervous and begins to feel inadequate. Although she values efficiency in a materialistic sense, her thought processes are often times convoluted and make little sense when mapped out. She doesn't naturally pick up on social cues as well as others, and tends to keep them at a polite distance. She might find attempts to get closer to her person charming or irritating.

Oddly enough, she simultaneously possesses an inferiority and superiority complex. Unless she's the 'best' at a given field of interest, she'll naturally tend to put herself at a lower pedestal than all others regardless of how good she actually is. On the other hand, it's easy for her to develop an ego when she notices rapid improvement in a skill or ability. These two traits form an unhealthy cycle that's difficult to break.

Although she can be difficult to get along with, she intensely values the friends she has. For better or for worse, she recognizes that her own eccentricities can make her hard to tolerate for an extended time.

History

Sencha was an accidental child, born of a merchant and an Iwagakure ninja. Neither parent wanted to raise her, nor were they fit to- so she was surreptitiously dumped on her paternal uncle. Oddly enough, she doesn't particularly despise either parent for this. Being raised by a parent that didn't want her would be worse long term than being raised by an asinine uncle who genuinely enjoyed her company.

She spent most of her childhood writing ledgers and doing odd jobs for local merchants and artisans. Although she applied for the ninja academy twice, she never managed to graduate due to extenuating circumstances- the first time, her uncle lost a leg and she ended up missing half of the last year. The second time she horrendously botched one of the required jutsu. Normally, this'd be the end of an aspiring ninja's career, but given her notable intelligence and recent losses with the wars, she was admitted into the genin rank, albeit at a later age than nearly all other applicants.

During the recent invasions, she was a victim of collateral damage, taking a stray fireball to the torso. Though the wound was cauterized immediately, it left her with massive scars.
