Sunagakure no Sato; The Village Hidden in the Sand

One of the original Hidden Villages, Sunagakure no Sato, or as it also known as, the Village Hidden in the Sand is one of the oldest known Ninja Villages located in the heart of Kaze no Kuni. While much of the world has changed, and many more Hidden Villages exist, Sunagakure still remains known as one of the Great Shinobi Nations. People who hail from this Village are referred to as "Sunians".

The areas surrounding Sunagakure are some of the harshest that Country of Wind has to offer. Located in the heart of Kaze no Kuni, the village is surrounded by windswept desert and scorching sand. Few examples of natural vegetation and wildlife can be found in the immediate vicinity. The village itself is safeguarded from some of the harsher winds and sandstorms, as it is nestled between a small mountainous plateau. This rocky terrain provides natural protection from weather and enemies alike. The layered plateau has been furthered shaped into battlements that allow for village patrol and defense.

Architecture

The buildings have mostly rounded structures to help circumnavigate damage caused by winds and course sand. Very monochromatic in color, most of the buildings are made from the rocky terrain that surround the village. These structures often feature numerous, but small windows placed high on the walls to allow sunlight and limited wind in, while keeping out as much of the sand as possible.

The village is divided by the main roads into eight sections, all which lead directly to the Kazekage's Summit. Within these sections, houses are grouped close together to create narrow, winding streets that provide further protection and cover from sandstorms. Ropes and cables will often lines streets or conjoin houses to allow for navigation during sandstorms or other periods of low visibility.

Shinobi of Sand

Masters of the desert, shinobi born within Kaze no Kuni almost always have the innate ability to control both wind and sand. They use these abilities to their advantage, creating a myriad of jutsu based around those elements. Due to the harsh terrain that is as often their sanctuary as it is their survival grounds, Sunagakure shinobi will often place an emphasis on endurance and stamina.

Outside of the standard ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu, shinobi from Sunagakure has a rich history of swordsmanship, puppetry, and the use of poisons. However, those are just general, and should be by no means considered an all-inclusive lists. Sunagakure also employs special elite corps that scout areas within Kaze no Kuni, searching for sources of water and other natural resources. These places are carefully monitored and mapped to be used in forward missions or in times of crisis.

Civilian Life

Though The Village Hidden in the Sand primarily serves as the military capital of Kaze no Kuni, plenty of civilians leave peacefully alongside their ninja protectors. Many of these noncombanents enhance village life by providing goods and services outside the shinobi disciplines. They provide assistance to medical ninja and help maintain the village greenhouses, as well as run restaurants, blacksmiths, groceries, and other sundry stores. Civilians also provide the needed clientele for low ranked missions, essential in the training of new ninjas.

Transportation

Railways: While still in construction, Sunagakure, in conjunction with Soma and Arrakis, are establishing a railway system that will connect the cities of Kaze no Kuni. This system will continue into neighboring countries and villages to provide quick and easy navigation through the sand.

During times of crisis, these established tracks are quickly concealed to prevent easy navigation from enemies and allies alike.

• OOC Knowledge: Similar to the ninja who special in finding usable resources within Kaze no Kuni, a special group is being trained to be deployed during wartime states whose sole purpose is to conceal any visible tracks or roads to and from Sunagakure.

Wind Powered: A recent development, and something that is still be explored, ninja, or even civilians with some chakra manipulation skill are exploring methods of controlled, wind powered transportation. As of now, it is most prominent in the recreational activities of "Wind Boarding", or "Sand Surfing".

Outside of these established mass methods, traveling by foot or by domesticated animals (such as horses, or camels) is still common.
