Family

The twins despise their family. As females, their duty was to be breeding 'queens'. They have no plans to follow in their mother's footsteps, and their siblings are all brainwashed to the clan's 'ideals' anyway. The only family they need is each other.

Nature Type

Jutsu

The Tsuchigumo twins Himiko and Kimiko are, for lack of a better term, monsters. The pair rove the country, constantly on the run from a family that wouldn't let them go, a village that couldn't let them go and the countless enemies the criminal life entails. Battle scarred but unbroken, they are bound by an unshakeable bond, nothing can or will come between them.

Appearance

Hair: Both Himiko and Kimiko have long black hair they let hang loose about their faces, though given their time on the run the condition of their hair is rarely at its best. When time and circumstance allow, each girl binds her hair into eight braids, each tipped with a sharp metal spike, symbolic of their arachnoidal heritage.
Eyes: Both twins have small, black eyes with no visible distinction between pupil and iris.
Clothing:
  • Ninja: Typically, the twins wear simple, tight half tops with open sides to give their extra arms room to move, They typically wear skirts so nothing is restricting their movement if they need a quick getaway, and they favour utilitarian sandals that have bands that tie up the shin to limit slippage at high speeds.
  • Travel: When travelling or entering a hostile location, the twins don heavy cloaks to obscure their limbs and identities, hoods drawn high over their heads. Underneath they typically wear their standard combat attire, always ready for battle as paranoia rules their lives.
Physical Description:
  • Himiko: Himiko is reasonably short, her long hair and additional sets of arms help to make her look imposing in ways her physical stature cannot. She is lithe, skin stretched tight over ropey muscle as years of poor eating habits have wreaked havoc on her frame. Her arms and legs are covered with numerous scars from encounters with bandits, and a long horizontal scar runs across her left side across her mid ribcage. She doesn’t much have the time or resources for makeup, and what little she does scrape together is most often utilised to make herself look more fearsome rather than attractive.
  • Kimiko: Kimiko is Himiko’s identical twin, has almost the same slight frame as her sister. Their faces are drawn with sharp angles, their canines sharper than normal and their eyes clearly tired from constant near exhaustion. Much like her sister, Kimiko’s limbs are decorated with scars, and she has a near identical scar across her left flank that she put there herself to maintain as close an appearance to her sister as possible.

History

From Lofty Beginnings

The birth of Himiko and Kimiko was seen as a glorious event in the deep caverns the Tsuchigumo call home. Female births are rare, and for twins as well it was seen as a sign of greatness for the clan’s future. They had older sisters, people who should have taken the throne in the event of the queen’s passing, but the twins were elevated immediately. Their sisters loathed them for this, and as youths the pair were attacked constantly, beaten and bitten by jealous older siblings, and left to suffer as their mother believed their trials would make them stronger. At age eight, the pair tried to flee, growing despondent at their continual mistreatment, but they were captured, bound, and forbidden from leaving for another two years. In this time, their bond with each other grew deeper, and the seeds of their hatred for those around them festered.

In some ways, they were lucky, due to their plans to be made into queens, they were allowed to be part of the clan’s tithe of ninja to the village when they turned ten, and they got their first taste of freedom. The girls distanced themselves from their clannamates at the academy, and settled in to the village life. Their isolation had kept them free largely from the NCIA’s involvement, and while their grandmother had lost her life, the village was free by the time they arrived, and the pair showed an incredible aptitude for working together. So much so, in fact, that they refused to take their graduation exam separately, insisting they take it together. It was an odd request but in the aftermath of the war Otogakure was desperate for more shinobi, so they caved and the girls graduated just fine.

Then, being gennin now, older Tsuchigumo members arrived in the village to collect the twins and return them home. They did not like this plan. Taking what little they could grab, Himiko led her sister off in the night, fleeing the village and the searching eyes of their clan. At this stage, they held little contempt for Otogakure, That would come in time, as they learned that not only did the Tsuchigumo resent deserters, but Otogakure hated them more and had the resources to track them down. They were on the run, attacking underguarded caravans and lone townships to keep themselves fed and supplied, and they continually have moved closer and closer to the border. They may leave their homeland soon, if the pursuits don’t ease off. There is only so much they can take before the rice field country proves no longer a worthy place to be. They can find their freedom elsewhere.

Renegades in the Fire Country

An assassination contract took the twins out of their native Denchi no Kuni into Hi no Kuni, home of Konohagakure. A far stronger military threat to the twins than Otogakure posed, the girls have been (in their minds) careful in their actions, but thanks to a contact in the Konoha underworld they've yet to be out of work. Their efforts have ranged from kidnapping, murder, robbery and public nuisance, but as long as they get paid they haven't complained too much. Unknown to the girls, however, a mysterious figure was stalking them, piecing together the loose elements of their crimes to bring them to justice. Time will tell how they deal with this new threat.

Trivia

General Public Knowledge, IC
  • The twins are criminals in Otogakure, but have avoided being assigned bounties elsewhere so far. That hasn't stopped rumours of their crimes from spreading into the civilian population of Hi no Kuni.
Private Knowledge, IC
  • The twins eat people. It's not entirely uncommon amongst the Tsuchigumo to do so, but given how rarely they venture out of their mountains, it's a bit of a shock when people catch on.
Fun Facts OOC!
  • Princess was trying to think of something mechanically unique to base a character around, and decided he wanted to have two characters operating as one. The original skill, 'Binary Star', was beneficial, but denied and became the hindering that is the justification for the pair.
  • The twins interacting together is largely an experiment to see if Princess can do it. Its not at all an excuse to write twice as much dialogue to earn additional experience.
  • KC felt bad the art for the twins took so long, so he gave them a background on the above image. Princess is amazed as ever.
  • Technically, Princess' second set of actual princess characters, though the Tsuchigumo idea of a princess is very different. Pretty much everyone is related there, so it has less meaning.
  • The reason the twins are Tsuchigumo is because Princess was tasked with redesigning the clan for the modern NA on Toroi's behalf, but Princess was fairly confident he could make a better Tsuchigumo, so he did.
  • Otome was going to be a missing nin originally, but the twins started as missing nin, removing Otome's need to do so.

Quotes

  • "Dearest sister, I fear we have all the tools and yet no plan."
  • "Hmm, should be fine, though it says we can’t hurt him? That’s no fun. Can’t even take a piece for later?"
  • “Big mistake.”
