During the NCIA, a chance encounter with Ma'at Akilah led to him abandoning his clan and joining the desert renegade in an attempt to overthrow the Kumogakure Empire. Under her, and Takashuri Keito's tutelage, Ren became an effective Shinobi and valuable Resistance Member who was ruthless in his pursuit of the NCIA. With the fall of the Empire and the formation of SABAKU with Akilah at it's head, it was only natural that Ren stick with his mentor and join the ranks as well. While it is impossible to confirm, many believe that Ren's position in the organization is Second-in-Command, as he often serves as Akilah's right hand man.
