Clothing: He wears a black sleeveless shirt that’s fitting to his form, made from a material that helps his skin breathe in Kaze no Kuni’s desert heat. His pants are made of a sturdy, yet comfortable white cotton that are held secure by a simple black belt with a pouch attached at his hip to hold some ninja tools. On his feet are a pair of black shinobi sandals, opened toed and at the heel for his feet to be able to breath. When he heads out, he wears a white cotton hooded cloak over his shoulders to protect him from the heat. While in the comfort of his own home, he prefers the free feeling of wearing no shirt as he lounges or goes through this scrolls. He can usually be seen wearing a single, long, gold earring on his left ear.

Physical Description: Kin’s body is lithe like that of a prowling feline and of an olive tan complexion. His physique is moderately defined from the necessity of having to do training and to build up resistance, but also to keep up his pleasant appearance. His golden eyes have a cat-like smugness to them with an unnatural gleam when he spies something he wants, underneath a pair of fine eyebrows. The boy’s dark brown hair is of medium length with a bit of a wing tip and slightly parted at the left. His posture is good and straight, dignified in his own way as he holds his head high, like he thinks himself a ruler. Kin's hands are deft and stable, allowing him to make clear strokes on paper when making his notes, among other things.

History

Before His Time

Nothing was ever truly good. Everything is deceiving. The city of Soma was a wonder, its architecture an art form in itself. Yet nothing is as it ever seems. This was where Harumi lived out her youth and young adult years. As long as she kept her head down and did as she was told, she wouldn’t see much trouble befall her. The young woman had spent most of her time working where she could, being from the poor districts of the two-faced city. Her parents weren’t all that better off either, so she did all that she could manage in order to help out. It wasn’t much, but they pulled through without much danger. The props of keeping your nose out of other’s business, just looking out for yourself and your own.

Harumi was a stunning young lady and despite the shadowy side to the city, held a certain light about her. Due to this, she always got more work at establishments where individuals paid to have a pretty face sit and listen to their over embellished stories and give them company. It wasn’t really what she had expected to being doing with her life, but it paid alright. The only trouble was when customers demanded more than what was accepted. On more than a few occasions she would end up assaulted for respectfully refusing to act beyond her job description, going home with a few bruises that she’d have to cover up for the next day.

She was already fed up with it as it was and wanted out, but the final push was when an angry wife made an attempt on her life. If she hadn’t moved when she did, it could have ended so much worse. The furious spouse had managed to cut her at the hip, rather than stab her in the lower abdomen. That had been the last straw. She had decided to pick up and leave Soma forever. The next caravan out of the city she was on, wanting as much distance as she could between her and it. They had stopped in Sunagakure no Sato for a few days to gather supplies, still, she wanted further. It was when they had reached Arrakis that she felt she could make do.

Another job, another life, and yet...some bad decisions. Harumi had managed to settle into life in her new residence, a small place of her own. Things felt like they would be a lot better. A new job where she would have to flinch at the hand of a customer, or worry about angry spouses waiting for her in the dark. Eventually she felt comfortable enough at the coast to really live. Still a pretty soul, she caught the eye of sailors and visitors from other countries. She had offers of drinks from plenty of suitors at the Tavern, though she seldom accepted more than one. Then came the evening when her will was not as strong. He was handsome and his words were honeyed and what could it hurt? They had drink after drink until neither could think properly. Nothing more than a one night stand and gone to sea before she awoke the next morning, leaving her pregnant and alone.

Beginnings of a King

When Kin was born, he was the greatest thing to ever happen to her, like a promise of a sparkling future. It was tough raising him all by herself early on, but she got the hang of it quickly. For her little prince, she had to. He was the world to her now. The years would go by, the little Kin grew, his mother teaching him as best she could. Harumi taught him all manners of social behavior and how to treat someone with respect. He would never have to lower himself and resort to taking out hateful emotions on someone who didn’t deserve it and most importantly, how to treat a lady.

Things wouldn’t be like this forever though. Another suitor would intervene, and this one stuck around long enough to make a mess of things. At first he was pleasant, showering her with gifts and flowers, making a show of getting to know young Kin. Would he be the father figure the young boy never had? Nothing but lies. When enough time had passed, the pleasant airs wore off and his true nature was revealed. He was cruel and belittling, beating Harumi when she didn’t do things how he wanted to the ‘T’. If Kin was out later than he should have been at the library, he got punished, but so did Harumi. A vicious cycle.

So once again, Harumi had to keep her head down, not wanting trouble...not wanting her child unwarrantedly punished. Kin was still young, but he knew it was wrong. It was all wrong. Everything this man did was against what his mother had taught him. For the sake of his mother, he obeyed like a servant so as not to cause any further unnecessary harm to her due to his faults. With what spare time he was given, the golden eyed youth tried to find a way out for his mother. He was ten though, what could he do against a grown man? There was but one solution. Run. Pride was expendable for he safety of his mother.

Under darkness of night, the two of them packed the necessities and prepared to leave. Slam! A loud stumbling signaled the untimely return of the drunken monster. Anger creased his face as he realized what he had bursted in on. Immediately he rushed for Harumi in order to stop her from leaving, but Kin was would have none of it. The young boy lunged forward and pushed the man back down the stairs of their small loft with a thud. He was still alive, but he’d feel it in the morning. Above him from the top of the stairs, Kin stared down at him with leering golden orbs, like he was passing a judgement. It was unsettling to see such a gaze from a ten year old, especially in his state of mind. He drunkenly scuttled off, tripping as he tried to get to his feet and sorely limp away.

With their torturer well out of their way, the mother and son gathered and their things and left before the drunkard could change his mind. If anyone else dared to step up to the plate, they had best of been prepared. No longer was Kin going to take this abuse sitting down, cowering like a child. No more would his mother feel the sting of someone striking her. For the time being, they would stay with a friend of Harumi’s while they figured out what to do.

Kin knew what he wanted to do though. On his trips to the library, he had read documents and scrolls of what the shinobi of Sunagakure no Sato could do. If he learned even a portion of what they could do, he would be able to protect his mother. Maybe make some money on the side from jobs and provide for her so she could live in a safe environment, to live comfortably. Not to mention, he might be able to learn something extraordinary, to make a difference in some way. He voiced his desires to his mother, wondering if they could make the move. Would she be able to do it a second time, to pick up and leave again? If he left her here with her friend, would she remain safe with that man still about? Would he follow after them, or were they no longer worth the time? She held his hands and rested her forehead against his, her features soft as she resolved to see this through. To Sunagakure no Sato they would go.

Finally being able to enter the Academy, he didn’t mind being older than some of the youths already well underway in their studies. He would make up for it with his studious nature. Though the girls seemed to take notice of him plenty, not minding at all his head start in the looks department. Kin paid it no mind, but made sure to let them down easy, his ultimate goal not to break hearts at the Academy. The golden eyed youth was here to strengthen his resolve, to strengthen his body and to strengthen his spirit after all. All to keep his sole family safe. Somewhere along the way though, his desire for wealth became stronger as well. Originally meant for the prosperity of his mother, it also became for him as well, the idea of having the cushion of money an odd comfort.

After he graduated from the academy student exam and became a genin, Kin was had grown into his body and the confidence that came with it at the age of sixteen. He was young and lithe and quite the looker, yet still he watched over his mother like a doting mother hen, or a hawk, take your pick. It had been well after his graduation, now accustomed to the job expectancies of a shinobi of the sand. Kin was walking with his mother when he thought he saw the face in the crowd of a memory long forgotten. They fast approached, recognition in his features. It was ‘him’. The man made a sudden movement towards her and before he knew it, the golden leer was looking down upon him, but not from the top of stairs. The boy had grown inches over his head. Kin gripped the man’s wrist tightly, refusing to back down. This was his opportunity to take the past head on and put it out of its misery. “You would do well to turn around and walk back the way you came, scum. We have no need of you. Now...go.” The youth spoke coldly, his gaze piercing. The moment he let go of the man’s wrist, he turned and left, only daring to look back when he had distanced himself from them. It was the last they saw of him. Having gotten a hold of the past and kicked it to the curb, they could focus on the future.
