Before the era of written shinobi history, there existed a clan of alien origin known as the Ōtsutsuki; from this clan, the legendary Sage of Six Paths was birthed: Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo. After liberating the world from a long-forgotten tyrant, Hagoromo went on to spread the gift of Chakra and Ninshū. Powerful as Hagoromo may have been, he nonetheless faced the eventuality of all humanity: his mortality. Long before his end, however, he fathered a pair of prodigal children: Ōtsutsuki Indra and Ōtsutsuki Asura. Each of these children bore a blood-inherited gift from their father, though their abilities were wildly different. Indra possessed the Sage's eyes, morphed by mixed blood into the Sharingan; Asura instead inherited the Sage's body with tremendous life force and chakra. The two brothers were polar opposites in nearly every way. Where Asura was loved by many and had no inherent talent, Indra preferred solitude and was regarded as a Prodigy that appeared only once in a generation. Upon Hagoromo's deathbed, he summoned his children to select a successor to the Way of Ninshū. He asked them through what means they would see the world united under Ninshū. Indra answered "Power", believing that strength was the means to achieve unity; opposite to him, Asura answered "Love". Hagoromo found Asura's ideal to be preferable and nominated him his successor. That singular action caused a jealous fury within Indra and lead him to swear vengeance upon his brother, driving him to combat his sibling until his death, believing that the position as heir was rightfully his own.

The Uchiha clan is one of the four noble clans of Konohagakure no Sato, reputed to be the village's strongest because of their Sharingan and natural battle prowess. After helping found Konoha decades ago, the Uchiha grew increasingly isolated from the village's affairs, culminating in most of their deaths during the Uchiha Clan Downfall over one hundred years ago. Years later, the children of Uchiha Sasuke along with descendants of Uchiha that had not been known to the village, came and rebuilt the clan over many generations. Now they are a relatively small, but strong, core of Konohagakure no Sato.

Clan History

Ōtsutsuki Indra and Ōtsutsuki Asura

Before the era of written shinobi history, there existed a clan of alien origin known as the Otsutsuki; from this clan, the legendary Sage of Six Paths was birthed: Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo.

In the time that followed, long before the ninja villages were established, the Uchiha clan existed as one of the greatest of mercenary clans. Few others could stand up to the prowess of those that wielded the Sharingan in combat. In such times, it was common advise to turn tail and flee when confronted with the blood reds of an active Sharingan.

There was one clan that stood against the Uchiha. Whenever a contract was taken by them, the Senju would be their opposition. The Senju of the Thousand Arts, were a powerful clan, on par with those of the Uchiha. Many titanic battles ensued between the feuding clans. That was the way of things, until the formation of the great shinobi nations. Uchiha Madara, the leader of all those who carried the Sharingan was approached by Senju Hashirama, the man who would become the first Hokage. He approached with the offer of peace between the clans and a score of others.

Madara believed that such an alliance would bring ruin to the proud Uchiha clan, but his fellows disagreed and pressed the head of the clan into agreement with Hashirama. The two clans were the first to come together, forming the skeleton of what would become Konohagakure No Sato. The mastermind behind the undertaking, Senju Hashirama, was chosen as the first leader of the village, the first Hokage. This became evident proof in the eyes of Uchiha Madara that his people were to be made subservient to the Senju clan. The other Uchiha saw this as Madara's attempting to rekindle the fires of war. They turned their back on him, and he defected, leaving Konohagakure.

Following Madara's flight from the village, the Hokage gifted the Uchiha with the control of the Konoha Military Police Corp. Madara claimed that the sign of goodwill between the clans was merely a ploy, a way of distancing the Uchiha from the governing politics of the village.

Years passed, and things seemed to progress with relative peace for those of the Uchiha. Until the attack of the Nine Tailed Demon Fox rocked Konoha to it's foundation. To protect it's people, the Fourth Hokage lost his life in the conflict. The higher ups in Konoha political affairs became suspicious, the rumored abilities of the Sharingan brought the Uchiha into question as why the Bijuu would attack such a large installation of powerful ninja. To moniter the movements of the clan, they were moved to a quiet corner of the village where they could be easily monitered. The Uchiha interpreted this migration as a confirming sign. Madara had been right.

Amongst themselves, the Uchiha clan began to plot an uprising. They would seize control of the village by force if necessary. Coup de tat was magnanimous amongst the clan, with only a single objector to the issue. Uchiha Itachi, the eldest son of the clan head, and a supremely gifted shinobi was a peace loving young man. Unlike the bulk of his clansmen, Itachi was against causing more bloodshed, after the recent end of the Third Great Ninja War. It was Itachi, whom the Third Hokage trusted would find a peaceful resolution to the conflict, who brought upon the Uchiha Clan Downfall that would lay low every Uchiha clansmen in Konohagakure, save one. His younger brother, Sasuke was spared from the massacre, only for the love that he held for the child.

That same night, Itachi fled the village, and Sasuke stared down at the corpses of everything he held dear. The bond between the remaining brothers of the Uchiha house was shattered. A great rage was kindled within Sasuke's heart. One that would drive him to hunt down and kill his older brother, by any means necessary. As was expected by the murderer of the Uchiha, who despite his efforts to contain war, was branded as a criminal of the most heinous caliber.

The tale of the brothers Uchiha progressed, both grew in power until the fateful meeting where the younger of the Uchiha defeated his ailing older brother in a great battle that is still talked about. The first Madara then came to Sasuke, the victor and explained the truth of the massacre to the boy. This would lead to a great series of trials, but those then become the legend of the great Uchiha Sasuke and not a tale of the clan itself.

It is unknown where many of the Uchiha that live in the village today originated from. Itachi is a possible candidate, though he was very aloof and disdainful of his people. Madara may have intended on fathering a new clan in his image, creating offspring before his downfall at the end of the Fourth Shinobi War. It is speculated that other Uchiha killed that day may have had bastard children outside of the walls. The only lineage that is known for certain is that of Uchiha Sasuke, who came back to Konoha after his great travels and bore children. Aside the lineage of Sasuke, it is known though that as decades passed a new brood of Uchiha once again came to the doorstep of their ancestral home. They came by one's and by two's, children of dubious parentage who had activated a Kekkai Genkai they had no idea was their own.

Most came seeking answers to questions that they could not answer alone, and most were ill-received within the village. The Uchiha were no longer the noble people they had once been. Though Uchiha Sasuke had become a nearly a myth, passing from world class criminal, to hero, and finally to legend, there was an ominous cloud that had been remembered from their plot and downfall. Despite the air of oppression within Konohagakure, the bastard clansmen were allowed to return to the village in their slow trickle over decades. They had no home, their bloodline awakening causing them to be ostracized by their people and turned to the only place in the country where they could learn to control their new powers.

In the following generation, the Uchiha would squabble over just who would become the official head of the clan. The lineage of Sasuke moved on to greater tasks, becoming heroes in their own right but also distancing themselves from the ails and needs of the many. It was not until a young man of prodigious potential stepped forward and claimed the seat of power, would the next leader of the clan come to be decided. Taking the title of Madara for himself, this new leader began to once again stabilize his clan. This man would become known as Nidaime Madara

Despite the active leadership that tried to continue the propagation of younger ranks, the house of Uchiha displayed an ever growing tenacity to want to destroy one another. The Sharingan seemed to pit it's bearers against others who shared that fate, with each Uchiha attempting to unlock ever more powerful levels of their bloodline. Such selfish and prideful traits within his own people drove the second Madara to disgust. These new generations of Uchiha were no better than the previous, and those before them. It seemed that no matter the age, all those who wielded the Sharingan would come to be combative and cold creatures, bent on violence.

He left them. Madara traveled far from Konohagakure, persuing his own endeavors while leaving his clan to their own devices. The clan floundered and dwindled as other less powerful Uchiha attempted to take his empty thrown. Still others, the outcast children took to the road, wandering the paths of the world. Some of these children found instruction under Nidaime Madara.

The coming of Kumogakure Empire and the NCIA would spell a second doom for the Uchiha clan. Being historically, a clan of powerful and elite shinobi, they were targeted as a priority during the invasion of Konohagakure No Sato. During the invasion, many living Uchiha would meet their end whether they intended to rescue their village or not. The clan was a liability and a danger to the Empire. Those that survived were the ones who fled or were young enough to hide their lineage and ability.

The eventual fall of the Empire would bring about a new age for the Uchiha. The Hokage, Hyuuga Yatako, sought for a new age of peace between clans. He saw great potential in the Uchiha and he restored many of their duties in the post war village.
