Iona Keanu, originally Nankan Keanu, is the former kitesurfing MVP for the Arrakis Falcons. Born in Rai no Kuni where his parents had to flee due to the nature of their marriage, Keanu grew up in Kaze no Kuni and trained to become a Genin before leaving the life of a ninja to pursue sports. His life was violently thrown back into the ninja world when assassins from the Nankan clan found him in an exhibition game in Arrakis.

Clothing: Keanu often wears very little clothing to speak off, almost never seen with a shirt on and always with a pair of long cargo shorts and flip flops if not bare foot. His pants are tied around his waist with a thick weave belt that hangs from the front of his waist.

Physical Description: Keanu is tall and lean with a muscular build that is a direct result of his years of sailing. His skin is a dark tan from spending day after day in the sun from dawn until dusk. On his left shoulder, from his collar bone and down along his entire chest and even to his left arm is a large circular tattoo of a wind spiral within a sun, a symbol of his love for the wind and his country.

History

Chapter 0; Prologue
In the summer of 2099, on a cool and overcast day, there was a child born in the mountains just outside of Kumogakure no Sato. His father, Aston, was a member of the well known Nankan clan of the village hidden in clouds and his mother, Ulani, had married to Aston after her family had been killed in a raid on her home village at a young age. Aston and Ulani were very much so in love, however the Nankan clan that Aston was a part of did not allow breeding outside of its own blood, a sin punishable by death of the infant. Aston watched as his brother, Aston, enlisted into the government movement of his own free will. Knowing that he would soon be forced to fold into the government movement himself and the secret of his wife and child would soon be uncovered, he decided to flee the country. He sought not only a place where his child could live without fear of death, but also a place far away that the hand of the Kumogakure no Sato could never reach. (lawl)

As Ulani recovered from her pregnancy, Aston would set the pieces in motion that would allow them to leave the country without notice. Within a month they were on a caravan out of the country and started their journey across the continent to their destination, Kaze no Kuni.

Upon arrival, Aston would approach the Kazekage and tell the truth of their situation, asking for acceptance and protection for him and his small family. In return, himself and his wife would serve the village with their ninja talents. The Kazekage was interested in the prospect of having a member of a rival nation's clan among his ranks. He would eventually agree, giving Aston and his family a place in Sunagakure no Sato.

Two years later, Keanu would have a younger sister who was born in Sunagakure no Sato.

Keanu, Age 16

Chapter 1; Ninja Academy
At the age of six Keanu was enrolled into the Ninja Academy within Sunagakure no Sato. Keanu got along well with his classmates, none of them were aware of his foreign origins even though many of the parents were suspicious of the child from an early age. Even his teachers would often keep an extra pair of eyes on the boy as he interacted with the other kids his age. Though the Kazekage had accepted the family into the village, not everyone had blindly followed the decision.

As well, Aston and Ulani had never been placed on a mission above C Rank since their arrival. Though they were both of merely Chuunin level, Aston's special abilities alone would often warrant him B Rank missions and even an A Rank in Kumogakure no Sato if his abilities were called for. However, Suna was not so willing to place their trust in the foreign family.

Keanu was in the academy for two years, long enough to see his younger sister attend her first few months in the academy before the Kumogakure no Sato forces invaded the village. Aston, thinking it was his fault for the attack in the first moments, went out to assist the Kazekage. Ulani would take Keanu and his sister Kealii from the village with the other retreating forces, taking secret underground passages to escape miles into the desert. Keanu would not see his father again for a year.

Chapter 2; Water Runners
Once leaving the village, Ulani and her children would fall into the first wave of resistance forces. Though Keanu and Kealii were far to young to be doing any type of battling, they were recruited into the water carrier division. Their job at that level was quite literally what it sounded like, to carry water. However, ninja of much higher training would use the water routes as a cover for carrying out missions of sabotage against the NCIA. So Keanu was not only helping to supply water to the resistance forces and civilians, but also providing a cover for resistance members to fight back against the new government.

His mother, Ulani, would take higher level missions of sabotage along these routes, sometimes using the same caravan that her son and daughter would work on to fight against enemy forces. Through these missions the Nankan family began to gain reputation with the other resistance fighters, though some still feared they were undercover operatives for Kumogakure no Sato.

After a year of fighting in the resistance and no word from their father and husband, Aston would appear in a caravan of freed prisoners from a NCIA cell that had been raided. Aston had been captured and injured during the initial invasion, and he had fought at the side of the Kazekage before he was killed in action. Aston had taken an attack for Kazekage, haphazardly jumping in the way of a halbred that aimed itself for the man who had taken his family in and protected them. It was this attack that had taken the older man's arm, despite his clan abilities. With only one arm, Aston had been kept in a prison cell where he refused to communicate with the enemy. Thankfully, he was spared any torture due to his rank only being of Chuunin, though he was visited by his former clan members. They had left him to rot in the cell, a suiting end for the man after he turned his back on his country and clan.

Aston would go on to learn to be a ninja even without his left arm, surpassing into Special Jounin rank as a defensive expert and finally earning the respect of the other Sunagakure ninja that he had sought after for his family.

After the NCIA was overtaken in Soma and Sunagakure no Sato, the former resistance leader Takashuri Keito was appointed Kazekage. He knew Aston and his family well from their work with the resistance and the standing of the family was never questioned again. As far as anyone was concerned, they were full Sunagakure ninja.

Chapter 3; Arrakis Falcons
After the war, Keanu would finish his last few months at the academy, graduating without a problem after his years of service in the resistance. Having graduated only officially six months before his sister, Keanu would move to the south coast to follow his dreams of kitesailing. He had taken up the sport as a young boy and had practiced on the desert sands when he could. However, there was a new push for kitesailing in the small port city of Arrakis in the south and it was there that Keanu moved. Of course, even Keanu knew that leaving the hidden village with the name Nankan was a bad idea, so he took up the alias Iona Keanu when he moved. Arriving, he would find a much larger city than he expected, the port city was rapidly expanding and growing as people moved in from all over the country.

After almost five years of living in the new capital of the country, Keanu had become one of the lead members of the Arrakis Falcons, the top kitesailing team in the entire country. Keanu had turned out to be a natural on the sand and in the water with his self designed board and kite, which he named the Cyclone. Competing in races and games all along the coast from Kaze no Kuni to Hi no Kuni, Keanu became something of a cult celebrity and was one of the top five sailors among the sport. However, that would all change during one game off the coast of Arrakis...
