Yukimura Sanada
Yukimura Sanada (真田幸村, Sanada Yukimura) is a Genin-level shinobi of Kirigakure and descendant of the Hisame clan. He acts as an assistant liaison for Kirigakure between other villages, in addition to his regular ninja duties.
Background
Prologue – Formative Years
Yukimura was born in a small village called Sekka, positioned inland of northwestern Mizu no Kuni. At an early age, his parents succumbed to an epidemic that swept through the vulnerable parts of the countryside. From the ages of three to six he lived in an orphanage, later sneaking away from– in order to join Kirigakure's Ninja Academy. During the invasion of Kumogakure, he had abandoned the academy to seek refuge in the safety of the orphanage. Discovered by the invading forces, he was captured, and during his extradition, escaped after a brief struggle. On the run, he was successfully tracked down by the foreign invaders just outside of the capital city of Avalon. It was then that a hermit samurai by the name of Uesugi Kenshin rescued him from his would be captors but only after the display of the boy's own will to survive.
It was after a surprising act of benevolence; a proper burial the child had given to his would be captors, despite their actions against him, that Kenshin decided to take the child under his wing. From that moment onward, he was known as Sanada Yukimura, given to him by Kenshin as the boy's original name was unbefitting of a swordsman.
Adopted by the hermit samurai, Yukimura was not only disciplined in the ways of the samurai; given the capability to protect himself and others but also a way of life; a value system to follow in the Hagakure. At the age of twelve, Yukimura's head was turned once again. His heart strings pulled in the direction of Kirigakure and the world of the ninja, and to the chagrin of his master, Yukimura separated from Kenshin and embarked on the path of the ninja once again.
Personality
Yukimura is a very carefree individual. Although very skilled, many people can hardly take him seriously, as he even makes jokes during serious situations. Generally, Yukimura just takes life as it comes. He is a very smart individual but due to his attitude, its hard for any who have not seen him in battle, to believe. Yukimura is seen as a joyful person, as he can be seen with a calm look and a smile on his face most of the time. He speaks with a distinct Western-Mizu dialect, which is polite but indirect. He typically doesn't care for things that do not interest him, which can be a flaw of his ignorance. His philosophy seems to be based on the ancient samurai ideals of immediacy, such as considering oneself as dead and the idea of death being an awakening from a dream, which are both elements of Bushido illustrated in the Hagakure.
Not much has changed in Yukimura's personality but his combative personality definately has, mainly due to the mishap with the GERTs tournament. Because of his failure at the GERTs event, instead of simply feeling an opponent out, he battles using the most efficient way to get the job done, in the shortest amount of time possible. Although his combative ways have changed, Yukimura is still very attentive, watching the ever changing battle field with the eye of a hawk and the patience of the sloth. Now more so than ever, the rumor is still often said that, the same move cannot work on him twice.
Due to his travels, his savvy nature is even more evident. Being caught in the most percarius situations, Yukimura has more than once talked his way out of problems that could cause a mission to be failed. Once convincing a criminal of Kirigakure to take him on as a bodyguard; as he was sent by Desumasuku to observe this criminal. He can get a complete stranger to talk to him about anything. A good trait that works very well with the ladies and even men.
Appearance

Post-Time Skip –
After five years, Yukimura has definately grown up a bit. From his five-foot one-inch stature to a new five-foot six-inch stature. Compared to his fellow male ninjas, Yukimura hasn't grown much, still being about the height of most females. To accompany this growth in height, also came an increase in weight. Yukimura is no longer a slight framed boy, increasing his body mass modestly. At seventeen years of age, none of his physical advancements have seemed to been much for a male but for a female it woud be around average. Because of these advancements in appearance, Yukimura still retains his androgynous appearance. Even more so than before, he is often mistaken for a woman when he wears certain clothing or has his hair in a certain way. Yukimura seems to have let his hair grow out longer, ending right between his shoulder blades. This may be the very reason why people mistake him for a woman. Never the less, his skin has retained its peach-orange color, and smooth velvet like texture. His hair also retains its healthy shine, even as his hair is raven colored. From his travels, Yukimura had leared of many herbal knowledge and because of this, the feint smell of camellia oil can be smelled from his hair when withing the appropriate distance(half a foot from his person).
As he aged, his clothing tastes has changed as well. He typically changes his clothing style with the seasons. However when on duty, the most constant thing he will wear is his Hisame Ichizoku tunic. He also likes the traditional style of Kirigakure clothing. In the summer months he can be seen wearing Yukata, even though it is meant for women. And in the Winter months wearing Hakama, colored to suite the Hisame clan. In the sping months he will wear the appropriate garbs of clothing depending on whether it rains or not. A consistent part of his clothing is the colors he wears. Typically something in the pattern of light-dark-light. Including flowers on these traditional clothing pieces. This does not mean he isn't seen wearing more modern clothes, he can be seen wearing anything from shorts and a t-shirt, to long pants and woven tops. He also seems to have traded in the traditional ninja boots for a more Samurai-esque or Hisame-esque zōri with tabi socks. Just like the rest of his wordrobe, this isn't a permanent feature for during the summer months he may wear the more favorable geta with no socks because of the hot and humid climate.
Even after five years, Yukimura still doesn't care for the Kirigakure no Sato standard issue headband. To the point where he isn't even seen wearing it at all. The absence of his hitai-ate may be offensive to some but this attitude is often fleeted away once an individual lays eyes upon the deep blue script reading "氷遁" on the back of his chuunin tunic.
Abilities
Yukimura is an exceptionally gifted shinobi. Noted by Shougo to be a hidden gem of the Hisame clan, as he had the keen ability to grasp the clan's secret techniques although being estranged to the clan. By the time of the Kirigakure G.E.R.Ts Exams his agility was noted to be at the top of the Kiri Genin class but his physical conditioning slight.
In the five years since the Kirigakure G.E.R.Ts Exams, Yukimura had furthered his capabilities in ninjutsu. Harnessing his chakra's natural affinity for the lightning element as a teenager, and improving his physical conditioning in that time. It is noted that Yukimura has natural talent for ninja tools and weapons, leading to the suggestion that he could be a candidate of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.
Chakra and Physical Prowess
Yukimura has peculiar chakra for his age, boasting the capacity for the Wind, Water, and Lightning elements, as well as the advanced element of Ice. He is extremely quick and agile, capable of avoiding attacks even against Kumogakure's Sokudo clan's famed speed. Yukimura's fighting style is fluid and adaptable, capable of making use of both ninjutsu and taijutsu to exploit weaknesses or halt an opponent's offensive.

The Ninja Path
The Hidden Mist Arc

Arriving to the Hidden Mist Village it was much different than what he remembered. A lifetime ago. Wondering around the village, he stumbled upon the Hisame clan estates and within Hisame Shougo. Exchanging pleasantries it became apparent that Yukimura may have been a member of the Hisame diaspora and testing the theory had proven his hunch to be true. Somehow the boy managed to manipulate ice and even lower the temperature.
Under Shougo's good will, Yukimura entered the fold of the Hisame clan. Over the next few days, the two would train together. Yukimura's ninjutsu skill was novice but promising. Tackling each task that Shougo had presented to him. Forming ice, manipulating its shape, controlling his chakra on the surface of ice, utilizing hand seals with a single hand, and learning the Hisame clan's throwing arts. Yukimura progression was sharp and linear with Shougo as a mentor in what spanned the month.
Given the opportunity to reside within the clan estates, Yukimura accepted his cousin's offer. The suggestion of joining the ranks of Kirigakure was also met with acceptance. The wide eyed youth was eager to see what he was capable of.
G.E.R.Ts Arc
Due to Shougo vouching for him, Yukimura was declared a genin without formally attending the Academy. Immediately after, finding himself in a tournament for genin of the village. Since the re-establishment of the Hidden Villages and the collapse of the Kumogakure Empire and N.C.I.A, the G.E.R.Ts exam or (Kirigakure) Genin Exams and Rankings Tournament was the first pseudo- chûnin exam held within the country. The first part of the exam consisted of a test of a shinobi's aptitude for subterfuge and securing of sensitive items. Declared a scavenger hunt due to the Mizukage's sense of humor, the participants had to acquire different items within the time limit proposed. The difference between this scavenger hunt was that the participants could steal or use any method to get what they wanted as long as they were not caught in the act; subterfuge. Despite proving difficult for some participants, Yukimura had passed with flying colors.

A simple enough task but the true test was yet to be seen. The next portion was a tournament of combat, like most Chuunin exams contain. Upon receiving the information, Yukimura was unbothered by the potential of the rest, he was confident. It was in that confidence that Yukimura's first opponent, Namari Kairan, the false name for Sokudo Sonniku, had gotten the best of him. Kiran had proven too fast for Yukimura. Though failing to land most of his strikes, it only took one perfectly placed shot from Kiran to drop him. Though Yukimura improvised by halting his opponent's movement, the injury had proven too great for Yukimura to continue and he forfeited.
Yukimura had sustained too much damage, the gash on the top of his head bleeding profusely and his chakra level depleted rapidly from the Hisame Clan technique that he had used to prevent Kairan from moving. He had no choice. On that day, Yukimura lost in the first round but also proved his latent potential.
Civil War Arc

After the G.E.R.Ts exams, a foreboding note found its way into Yukimura's possession, calling for a meeting at the docks of Kirigakure. Little did he know that his arrival meant his cooperation.
Arriving at the docks, he was greeted by a young woman, roughly his age or slightly older. What he had thought was a fan from his G.E.R.T exam showing or possible date, had quickly become apparent as a contact for a greater purpose. His curiosity getting the best of him, he listened to what the girl had to say. The conversation was brief but particular to note the coming of a serious event within the village and country. She had managed to recruit the naïve Yukimura to the cause of the Desumasuku ANBU, the rogue organization that would launch the next Kirigakure civil war.
When the trap was sprung, he was called into action. It was a moment that moved Yukimura to see the horrors of war personally. The village in strife, the places he had seen and frequented were now destroyed. Countrymen; brothers, sisters, cousins; clansmen were pitted against each other. Fighting for causes distinctly different but for the goal of a thriving Kirigakure. The death of a Zandoran clan member in his arms by that of a Desumasuku operative had been the catalyst for Yukimura's growth, shame, and regret. He deserted the rogue unit's forces.
During the waning parts of the war, Yukimura met with his cousin and mentor, Hisame Shougo and brother, Haruyuki, expressing the very shame and regret that he felt for his actions, cooperating with an organization that sought to destroy what he had wanted to be part of. Though possibly misunderstood, Yukimura's betrayal to what he believed to be his calling had resulted in self-exile. Isolating himself in a cavern just outside of a small village in the north of Mizu no Kuni. It was there that Yukimura resided in isolation, training and meditating, so that one day, he could reclaim his lost honor.
A year later, returning to Kirigakure after the events of the Desumasuku insurrection.
Kirigakure no Saizo Arc
After his time in the north of the country, Yukimura returned to Kirigakure with a new sense of duty. Acknowledging the shame he felt for his prior actions, he sought to make amends and correct his wrongs. His return to the village was uneventful however. The boy who gathered attention for his participation in the genin exams was gone, he was just another shinobi now. An unknown face in a sea of hitai-ate wearing crowd.
For three years, his progression in ninpō stalled, choosing instead to take an administrative role within the village structure. Helping to keep track of the day-to-day events, missions, and personnel changes within the Mizukage Pavillion. He accepted this new role, hesitant to re-enter the fray of being an active shinobi, taking on missions and encountering danger. The time spent within an administrative role did not come without some benefit however. He had learned much about interactions, negotiations, following leads, and maintaining the interests of Kirigakure through international affairs.
He soon became an assistant liaison. Traveling to other countries with Kirigakure's head ninja of foreign affairs. Learning, adapting, and growing. It was on one of these trips that Yukimura found his confidence and readied himself to win back his honor and the trust that his cousin Shougo had placed in him. Choosing to shift his service from administrative and back into the field around the time Kirigakure would appoint a new Mizukage, Kirigakure no Saizō.
It was under the new regime that Yukimura decided to uphold the duties of the shinobi. Meeting with the Mizukage personally and taking on multiple missions for the village. These missions included escorting the Water Daimyō's daughter on a tour of the village, aiding in the manufacturing of village ninja tools and hitai-ate, as well as accounting for the village weaponry at one of the armories around the village. Discovering the scroll used to house the Seven Swords of the Hidden Mist as well.
The completion of these missions had set forth Yukimura's ambitions to rectify his shame and reclaim his honor. As well as presenting him with the opportunity to secure a high value target for the village.
Iwagakure Arc
Tasked with acquiring one of the seven swords of the mist, Yukimura made his way to Tsuchi no Kuni to follow a lead on the Bakutō, Shibuki, within the boundaries of Iwagakure. Making his way to the mainland, he briefly stopped at a small tea shop in Sunyin Port, Hi no Kuni. After gathering some intel on how to make his way further inland, he departed Sunyin via the Merchant Caravan that passed through the area.
Hitching a ride to Iwagakure, Yukimura was presented with two choices, to enter the village diplomatically. Formally seeking cooperation with Iwagakure for Shibuki or to sneak in and acquire it stealthily. Choosing the latter of the two options, Yukimura had entered the village under the guise of a merchant with the caravans. Stashing his pouch and finding a place to settle as his headquarters, he began to look for leads.
In the village center, he found a street lined with bars and a full night life. The politics of Iwagakure were still fresh after the war with Yukigakure. Seeing first hand that some villagers still taken issue with many of the Snow Country's refugees. Meeting a man named Ochuido, Yukimura related to the man with shames of war. Though he figured Ochuido's shame to be slightly different than his own, the two had a common respect for each other through their past.
Ochuido eventually let Yukimura in on a plan he and a few of his buddies had concocted to get revenge on the Hanabi clansman that assaulted him earlier in the night. Though Yukimura wasn't sure of the plan, he at least could find the Hanabi estates which his lead detailed as the possessors of the Bakutō, Shibuki. Agreeing to join, Yukimura was to act as a distraction for the group to perform the heist. At the given time, Yukimura, under the guise of the Henge no Jutsu, had set the distraction. Perhaps working too well, as several guards had pursued him through the night.
Leading them up to what he thought was a silent area where he could covertly shake his pursuers, he had instead come upon the Tsuchikage Summit and with it, an elite ninja guard. An explosion near the Hanabi estates had led to his detainment. Being knocked unconscious, he awoke detained in what seemed to be an interrogation room with a sharp pain extending from his shoulder; dislocated.
