Sarutobi Mari
Sarutobi Mari is the former Juudaime Hokage of Konohagakure no Sato and a retired Sennin of the village. He was Hokage for eight years before retiring and passing his title on to his student Amanohara Konpeki. After Konpeki's sudden and untimely death at the hands of the Kumogakure Empire's invasion, Mari returned for a short period as defacto head of the resistance as the role of Hokage until Yamamoto Hiruki took the title. Now he wanders the continent, searching for information and more or less just enjoying the later years of his life. Sarutobi Mari is the Great Grandson of Sarutobi Konohamaru.

Biography
Sarutobi Mari was born in 2066, the great grandson of the famous Sarutobi Konohamaru. Unfortunately, the two never met as Konohamaru passed away peacefully of old age in 2059. Mari's childhood is not something of notability in the history books. His time in the academy was normal, along with his progress through to the rank of Chuunin. It was not until 2080 that as a Chuunin Mari would for the first time catch the attention of the world at large. In an incident known as the Chishitoryu Incident, Sarutobi Mari single handedly defeat nine mysterious cloaked figures that had instigated a terrorist attack on the port town of Chishitoryu in eastern Hi no Kuni. Hailed as a hero, this event catapulted his ninja career and was the basis for his promotion to Jounin at age 15. Sarutobi Mari continued to be hailed as a hero of Konohagakure no Sato until the death of Nara Yoshikiro, where he was nominated to the position of Hokage.
Mari's time as Hokage was widely successful, and he spent his eight years building back up relations with other villages that had gone sour due to the previous Hokage's severe foreign policies. Unfortunately, his time as Hokage would be cut short when he retired from the position, handing it to his student Amanohara Konpeki. Though he would return for a short time to the title after Konpeki's passing, what Mari has done since his original retirement has largely gone unknown to the world at large. Occasionally stories of him intervening in conflicts or disasters to save lives will be told, though it is hard to confirm which have been true or rumor. Either way, Sarutobi Mari's name carries a weight to it, with many people believing that he is out in the world protecting it from all sorts of evil. Every time he appears he holds off a great disaster, saves lives, and then disappears. He has become almost a figure of myth, and one that has been cited by many as a symbol of hope that will ward away destruction.
Personality
Mari's in his later years is defined by his nearly limitless reserves of patience and wisdom, or so most believe. Mari never quite shed the short fuse or blunt way of speaking that he had cultivated in his youth, but he has learned to hold his tongue when needed. Though most see him as a figure to look up to, on a personal level Mari will often come off as blunt, quick to annoyance, and even slightly rude. He is quick to sort things into categories of importance, and as one might expect, many things in the world fall into categories that are below what he can spend his time on. He is not blind or stupid though, and has more than once been surprised by those he thought unimportant proving themselves to him.
