Dossier

Sanji is a minor political figure in the Country of Earth, as the IAF Head of Research and Development. He is not a household name or face, although a knowledgeable character might know his name and a few other facts. He is perhaps the single most powerful Ninjutsu user currently living, as well as an expert alchemist. He is known to have a two signature jutsu: One which grants him physical wings and the power of flight, and another which surrounds him in flames under his control. He is occasionally referred to as "Iwagakure's Morning Star" in reference to the appearance which these two jutsu create together. He is known to carry a sword in a black sheath, but what powers it has, if any, are not public knowledge.

History

Prologue

Sanji was born at 11:58:57 PM, Earth Country Standard Time, partway through a lunar eclipse. However, due to the fact that it was late at night, no one got around to recording his birth until the day later, and thus he was listed as being born at the stroke of midnight. His name, Sanji, was a mistake – his father was telling the attendant the name to write down and, due to a mild case of laryngitis on his part, said attendant misheard “Sanjiken” as “Sanji”. Since “Sanjiken” was intended as a pun anyway (Alchem Kitai was inordinately fond of puns) he didn't mind, terribly, when he discovered the mistake, and let it slide. Sanji's early years were marked by little of importance. He spent a lot of time reading, for a child, and he was remarkably precocious in his early education – provided by both the clan and his parents. He idolized his older cousin, Syaoran, but was individual-minded enough not to attempt to imitate Syaoran. At age eight, Sanji began construction on a secret hideout, using what he knew of alchemy (and, to a greater degree, using arrays he convinced his father to make for him) to hollow out a large, iceburg-like boulder in the middle of nowhere and fill it with a nearly complete copy of the Alchem's library (he was both disliked and adored by the librarians for his avid reading and his habit of dog-earing pages). His reasons for this hideout were manifold; the foremost of them, however, was that he wanted a place to learn on his own. That was perhaps his second-greatest passion, to learn all sorts of things - and the first was life itself, for Sanji intended never to die. Shortly before age nine, Sanji attended his cousin Syaoran's graduation ceremony from the Academy, and immediately decided to become a shinobi. His parents told him it was years too late for this. He said “Bugger that for a lark,” and in a couple of weeks had gotten them to enroll him. In precisely twenty-seven days, Sanji had caught up to his own age group, and, having accomplished this astounding feat of precociousness, promptly refused to do any work that the rest of the class wasn't, and turned his attention to other things. For the next three years he essentially did whatever amused him; he continually worked on his 'secret hideout', expanding it further and further into the massive mostly-buried stone, adding rooms and desks and shelves. He spent a lot of time reading, which pleased his father, who entertained vague notions that Sanji might one day be the head of the clan, given the precociousness and easy perfection he showed with just about every intellectual endeavor he made. As all children did, Sanji made up imaginary places and people. Unlike most children, however, Sanji acknowledged that his imaginary places in all likelihood did not exist. However, by merit of that same fact – that he was Sanji, and not anyone else – he also resolved to make these imaginary places himself. It was for this reason that he began to design his own flying city, which was his favorite imaginary place to play in. The city was based off of a children's book which he liked, and which Sanji had, in his opinion, improved rather a lot on in the design – the city in the story, for example, was rather a lot smaller than Sanji's city (by a factor of eight, he noted, given the fact that both were hemispherical and had radii of one and two respectively) – and Sanji, in the fullness of time, produced about forty pages of blueprints, concepts, and explanations. Unfortunately, he left rather a lot of things unexplained, like how he would power it or make it fly or any number of other things. Then, at age twelve, he graduated from the Academy, first in his class. He had never gotten along terribly well with the other students – none of them liked him particularly, and few would even speak to him civilly – except for one, Kin, who was on his team. Kin died very soon, after which Sanji was very depressed; however for the aforementioned reason it didn't bother him much when he found out, about a year later, that all the other graduates from his class had either died or quit being ninjas (about half of the latter were due to near-fatal injuries), but he still wasn't happy about it. That, however, is a story for another day. For now, simply know that his graduation was joyous and happy and that he was quite pleased with his Jounin, an older cousin of his who he rather liked, until she was suddenly replaced for reasons unknown to Sanji by one who he did not like at all. Then it gets fuzzy. This is something Sanji often wonders about. He remembers some of his past - almost everything up until about age thirteen, and then it gets increasingly patchy, blurred, and surreal until the day he last spoke to Syaoran before disappearing, and then there is nothing until the night before his rebirth.

Chapter 1: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Alchem Sanji awoke one morning from uneasy dreams, to find himself transformed into a new man: born again. When he was reborn, he was naked save for his necklace, and he woke screaming. The terror of the dream faded the moment he awoke, though, and he found himself unable to remember any of it beyond the name "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". Bits and pieces of his missing memories come back to him, mostly in the form of deja vu or dreams - but the only memories that come from the time he was missing come in the form of more nightmares.

There were some good times, and some bad times, and some big events and some small ones. The Kumo Empire was broken, and tensions were forgotten with surprising swiftness.

Chapter 2: The Preparations

What with one thing and another, five years passed. Over the course of those years, Sanji passed his time with research into the nature of life, and the manipulation of it, and with general leisurely pleasure-taking, and without very much effort put into training as a shinobi - as usual. He had not practiced his guitar since he was fifteen, and has long since lost the knack of it, but he is a fair singer and, owing to an unusual course of events, a roughly half-decent panpipe-player.
