Yukimura Sanada (真田幸村, Sanada Yukimura) is one of the promising young ninja of Kirigakure. He is a Chuunin-level shinobi of Kirigakure, and a descendant of the Hisame clan. He is also an apprentice of a swordsmanship master. He is the only known ninja to have graduated the academy twice, under two different alias'. His current assignment is to act as a liaison between Kirigakure and other villages including but not limited to; Iwagakure and the Eastern Ocean Nations.

Background

Yukimura was born in a small village in the western part of Mizu no Kuni. At an early age both of his parents died from illness. Yukimura was then placed into an orphanage where he would leave and secretly enlist into the Kirigakure Academy. After the invasion of Kumogakure and NCIA, Yukimura would be hunted down and removed from the orphanage. While extracting the young boy from the orphange he had escaped only to later be captured again. Inside of a forest outside of the capital city of Avalon, he was rescued by a hermit Samurai named Useugi Kenshin.

He would spend most of his early life with Kenshin. He would learn the ways of the samurai and take up the Hagakure as his philosophy of life. Kenshin would raise Yukimura and teach him everything that he would need to know to survive in the world. At the age of 13, Yukimura set out to become a ninja again even though his sensei and father figure would disagree with his decision. It wasn't long before Yukimura would be enlisted as a Kirigakure ninja and take up the responsibilities of a shinobi.

Personality

Yukimura is a very carefree individual. Although very skilled, many people can hardly take him seriously, as he even makes jokes during serious situations. Generally, Yukimura just takes life as it comes. He is a very smart individual but due to his attitude, its hard for any who have not seen him in battle, to believe. Yukimura is seen as a joyful person, as he can be seen with a calm look and a smile on his face most of the time. He speaks with a distinct Western-Mizu dialect, which is polite but indirect. He typically doesn't care for things that do not interest him, which can be a flaw of his ignorance. His philosophy seems to be based on the ancient samurai ideals of immediacy, such as considering oneself as dead and the idea of death being an awakening from a dream, which are both elements of Bushido illustrated in the Hagakure.

Not much has changed in Yukimura's personality but his combative personality definately has, mainly due to the mishap with the GERTs tournament. Because of his failure at the GERTs event, instead of simply feeling an opponent out, he battles using the most efficient way to get the job done, in the shortest amount of time possible. Although his combative ways have changed, Yukimura is still very attentive, watching the ever changing battle field with the eye of a hawk and the patience of the sloth. Now more so than ever, the rumor is still often said that, the same move cannot work on him twice.

Due to his travels, his savvy nature is even more evident. Being caught in the most percarius situations, Yukimura has more than once talked his way out of problems that could cause a mission to be failed. Once convincing a criminal of Kirigakure to take him on as a bodyguard; as he was sent by Desumasuku to observe this criminal. He can get a complete stranger to talk to him about anything. A good trait that works very well with the ladies and even men.

Appearance

After five years, Yukimura has definately grown up a bit. From his five-foot one-inch stature to a new five-foot five-inch stature. Compared to his fellow male ninjas, Yukimura hasn't grown much, still being about the height of most females. To accompany this growth in height, also came an increase in weight. Yukimura is no longer puny eighty four pound boy, he as shot up to around one hundred ten pounds. At eightteen years of age, none of his physical advancements have seemed to been much for a male but for a female it woud be around average. Because of these advancements in appearance, Yukimura still retains his androgynous appearance. Even more so than before, he is often mistaken for a woman when he wears certain clothing or has his hair in a certain way. Yukimura seems to have let his hair grow out longer, ending right between his shoulder blades. This may be the very reason why people mistake him for a woman. Never the less, his skin has retained its peach-orange color, and smooth velvet like texture. His hair also retains its healthy shine, even as his hair is raven colored. From his travels, Yukimura had leared of many herbal knowledge and because of this, the feint smell of camellia oil can be smelled from his hair when withing the appropriate distance(half a foot from his person).

As he aged, his clothing tastes has changed as well. He typically changes his clothing style with the seasons. However when on duty, the most constant thing he will wear is his Hisame Ichizoku tunic. He also likes the traditional style of Kirigakure clothing. In the summer months he can be seen wearing Yukata, even though it is meant for women. And in the Winter months wearing Hakama, colored to suite the Hisame clan. In the sping months he will wear the appropriate garbs of clothing depending on whether it rains or not. A consistent part of his clothing is the colors he wears. Typically something in the pattern of light-dark-light. Including flowers on these traditional clothing pieces. This does not mean he isn't seen wearing more modern clothes, he can be seen wearing anything from shorts and a t-shirt, to long pants and woven tops. He also seems to have traded in the traditional ninja boots for a more Samurai-esque or Hisame-esque zōri with tabi socks. Just like the rest of his wordrobe, this isn't a permanent feature for during the summer months he may wear the more favorable geta with no socks because of the hot and humid climate.

Even after five years, Yukimura still doesn't care for the Kirigakure no Sato standard issue headband. To the point where he isn't even seen wearing it at all. The absence of his hitai-ate may be offensive to some but this attitude is often fleeted away once an individual lays eyes upon the deep blue script reading "氷遁" on the back of his chuunin tunic.

Abilities

Being a descendant of the Hisame clan, Yukimura boasts great ability in transforming water into ice. Since his discovery of the Hisame clan, he has progressed in leaps and bounds. In the amount of time that he has spent as a ninja, he has mastered the basics of the Hisame clan and has already learned both the Demonic Ice Crystal Mirrors and Thousand Flying Water Needles of Death techniques. He has also harnessed his elemental affinity of the lightning element within 5 years of being an official ninja.

Physical Prowess

Even as a descendant of the Hisame clan, Yukimura surprisingly does not specialize with the ninjutsu arts of the shinobi realm. He had spent most of his life as a desciple to the ways of the sword. His real ability lies in the taijutsu arts. His ability to wield a sword far exceeds his ability in the ninjutsu arts. His prowess while wielding a sword has earned him the nickname "Tenken." amongst the sword wielding society. However, nobody within the shinobi circles have seen him even wield a blade. This is due to the fact that Yukimura wanted to focus on learning the shinobi arts instead of focusing on his kenjutsu abilities. As such, he keeps his swordsmanship abilities a secret.

Part I

Prologue

On a blizzard of a day, a child was born in a small village in the Country of Water. This child was born on an enigmatic day, February 29th 2097. Despite the bad weather conditions, in the small hut, the temperature was warm and the mood was delightful. Two parents smiled at the gift that they were given, almost identical to the mother and yet the child was a male. The little new born boy, had raven colored hair and a peach complexion. Topping off his young appearance with slender eyes. The couple couldn't ask for anything more than a healthy baby.

A few years after his birth, the boy had discovered an ability to manipulate small amounts of water. The family of the boy wasn't in tune with the near by ninja village of Kirigakure no Sato. So they took it upon themseleves to keep this trait between themselves. Of course his parents knew what it was, they simply did not wish for their child to be introduced to the ninja way of life. Keeping his ability to manipulate water and transform it into ice, away from everyone. Even the people of their very own village.

Becuase of the restrictions placed upon him, he didn't practice this ability very much. Normally using it whenever he was bored and only when he was inside the house hold. As time would past, his mother was consumed by a fatal illness. The boy was so young, and could not understand why she had passed away. He mourned the loss of his mother, he couldn't even describe the feeling that came upon him. Eventually the boy's father would soon fall to a fatal illness as well. At an early age, he lost both of his parents. Becomming an orphan in the great Country of Water.

Living under bad conditions, he seeked meaning and turned to the village of Kirigakure. Although unapproved by the individuals that ran the orphanage, he entered the academy without their knowledge and under a different name. Keeping his ability to manipulate the elements into ice a secret like his parents wished, he also kept his enterence into the Kirigakure academy a secret from the orphanage. He excelled in the academy and graduated within a year's time. However the journey was abruptly ended as the orphanage found out and never allowed him access to Kirigakure again nor permission to leave the orphanage ever again.

Chapter 1: My Name Is

He was in capable of leaving the orphanage. The people who ran the orphanage kept him under strict surveilance, for he broke the most important rules of the orphanage. His life would turn into a dull one, nothing to do but chores, he turned into a child worker of sorts. At this time the world would soon fall into peril. The village of Kumogakure would swiftly invade and take over all ninja villages, eventually establishing a ninja police organization. The problem with the boy's standing was that he was listed in the database of Kirigakure, although under a different name. This made the NCIA hunt him down, finding out that he was hiding out in a village not too far from Kirigakure.

On this day, a loud bang would be heard throughout the building. The doors were kicked in and a three individual cell would quickly infiltrate the orphanage. Two had quickly moved throughout the building while one stood at the door. They were looking for the boy, knowing his appearance and calling out his fake name. The people of the orphanage was scared and as the boy walked out of the kitchen area, they spotted him. Quickly they took hold of him and dragged him out of the orphanage. Then heading back towards the Kirigakure.

As they moved throughout the forrested region, one individual of the three man cell, let the notion of prison sentencing slip from his mouth. Those words rang in the boy's ear, he just wanted to leave, he didn't know about anything and thought his ninja past was behind him but it wasn't. As he sobbed, the tears would turn into ice. In a last ditch effort to get away and vanish from the face of the planet, he took the now, ice cicled tears, and stabbed the one that held him in the back with it. The pain caused the boy's release and thus he would attempt to escape from them. He was being chased down and eventually came across a hut, he would take refuge in the hut and try to hide from the three.

He was easily tracked and found. When one individual of the three man cell had entered the hut, the boy attacked him with another ice cicle. He was easily disarmed and taken outside, where his punishment was to be bestowed upon him. The man who was stabbed in the back had taken it upon himself to end the life of the boy. Kneeling the boy down, he would unsheath his weapon and put it to throat of the boy. Rearing back, the man was struck down swiftly. A large daunting figure stood before the two ncia ninja and the boy. A fight unfolded and the large daunting man was victorious.

During the fight the boy moved back into the hut, scared. The man entered the hut and talked to the young boy, telling him that he was safe now. At that moment, a kunai with an explosive tag was thrown into the hut, exploding miliseconds after impact. The ninja laughed in a crazed manner, heading back to the village and reporting the boy as dead. Thus erasing his profile from the ninja books, thus the boy's name was deceased. To much surprise, the man had removed himself and the boy from the hut at the last second, being well versed in combat himself.

The two were safe and the man had noticed the ice cicle in the boy's hand. Upon looking into his eyes, he saw something he liked. Taking the ice cicle from the boy, he would ask for his name. He replied by telling him, his name. The man scoffed, declaring that name not to be one of a future swordsmaster, and chose the more appropriate name of Sanada Yukimura. Thus the child would be taken in by the man who presented himself as Uesugi Kenshin, and a relationship would be born between the two.

Chapter 2: You Dissappoint Me

Yukimura was not allowed to be lazy, he was often and frequently given chores and things to do. He was disciplined in a masterful way, being taught the bare essentials of living. Kenshin had taught Yukimura everything; from reading, and grammar to combat and living. Kenshin had taken him in as if he was his own child. Yukimura grew strong but some how retained a slender, defenseless look. Kenshin often teased Yukimura about this and would flex his large bicep muscles, eventually turning the situation into a bodybuilding pose down. Yukimura would always lose however but it was good for laughs. Kenshin would even allow Yukimura to consume a bit of sake during holidays; however this would quickly stop when Kenshin found out that Yukimura grows extremely 'affectionate' when he consumes a bit too much sake.

Eventually Yukimura would be given a real katana. Thus would begin his true swordsmanship training. Yukimura wasn't given anything and had to work for everything, not alone but alongside Kenshin as a true master should do. Yukimura accompanied Kenshin on his travels into Avalon to sell the fine quality pottery that he would create. These travels and the time spent with Kenshin would shape Yukimura's personality. It was a good relationship but like every relationship there was hard times and when Yukimura would fail to perform a task, Kenshin would bring up his past to ignite the fire in Yukimura's soul, making him train alot harder.

As time would pass, the world moved along without them it seemed. Kenshin and Yukimura lived as a part of nature, it was an odd thing but they were totally oblivious to the outside world. During one trek to Avalon, the two had found out that the NCIA and Kumo empire had began to crumble and was completely removed from the Country of Water itself. This was news to the two but it did not excite or disappoint them, they continued living. Kenshin had known about Yukimura's abilities, the two had talked about them, discussed them and even helped Yukimura develope them further. However, the sword was the most taught discipline to Yukimura.

Eventually Yukimura would express his interest in returning to Kirigakure no Sato. Kenshin was greatly disappointed and angered by his apprentice's wishes. He felt that Yukimura was not ready to deal with the conflicts of the world, yet it was his apprentice's choice. Although angered, he did not force Yukimura to stay and thus Yukimura would leave. Because of this event, Kenshin had began to refer to Yukimura as his "idiot apprentice" but it would not deter their relationship on the inside.

Chapter 3: Sanada Yukimura

On his arrival to the Village of the Hidden Mist, everything was much different from when he had first seen it. New shops and buildings that he had never seen before; Akechi and Yukimura never traveled to Kirigakure, instead they went to Avalon and other port cities. He immediately conversated with people to find his way to the academy. Moving through the city, he had became quite the eye candy for the the ladies that had saw him. His androgynous appearance had stolen the hearts of the girls, they called him a bishonen in their whisper circles. He had heard them speaking but paid them no mind. Instead he made haste for the academy.

Once at the academy he had requested to join the academy, wanting to be a ninja of the hidden mist. Many people did not know whether he was male of female, thus created more whispering circles. This did not bother him, he would continue to make his way towards the booths that many other people were filling out documents of some sort. When it was his turn he was told to present some form of identification but had none to give He was told to go and retrieve some form of identification, so he did.

It took quite some time for Yukimura to obtain his 'identification'. When he had returned a day had passed and it was in the late afternoon, just as the sign up booths were about to close down for the day. Right then, Yukimura would smile widely at the person who had told him to get some identification. Looking up, the person would see a daunting figure standing before him; it was Uesugi Kenshin himself. Much to his protest, he tagged along with Yukimura to 'aid' his idiot apprentice. After some conversation between the Kenshin and the individual running the booth. Yukimura was permitted access to the kirigakure 'tournament'.

Yukimura didn't know what he had signed up for, he thought it was just a registration to the academy form. Yukimura would see Kenshin to the main gate of Kirigakure, at which the two talked, awkwardly, for a moment. Kenshin's last words to Yukimura were, 'don't lose, my idiot apprentice'. Yukimura would need it to survive the tournament that he was unknowingly signed up for. Kenshin would travel off back to the forest with a rare smile on his face. Yukimura would turn back around and move about the village with his typical smile, thinking about what his sensei ment by 'Don't Lose'.

Chapter 4: I Loss

Yukimura would immediately find himself in some sort of tournament for the genin of the village. It was at this time that he had finally understood what his sensei meant by dont lose. The beginning of the tournament was quite easy, a scavanger hunt of sorts. This difference between this scavanger hunt and others is that in this event you can steal or use any method to get what you wanted as long as you weren't caught in the act of it. This would prove hard for some, due to the monitoring of the event. After the first round of what was to be called GERTs, Yukimura then was informed about the actual tournament part of the event. In the beginning he thought nothing of what was to come, he figured that he was capable of standing his ground but the world would prove to have some very capable shinobi.

It was a boy named Namari Kairan was to be Yukimura's first opponent. Kairan would prove to fast for Yukimura, causing quite the injury on the top of his head. Although Kairan was fast, he only knew the offensive part of battle and because of this, he was easy to figure out. As seconds past, Kairan couldn't land a single blow on Yukimura but his speed proved to be a problem, attacking two times to Yukimura's one attack. Most would get discouraged or angry, Yukimura on the other hand stayed calm and calculated the possibilities. Using a technique that would keep Kairan's only advantage under control, he prepared for an attack that Kairan wouldn't possibly be able to evade. It was at this time that Yukimura noticed his body alerting him of the situation he was in. Thus the battle would end anti-climatically, Yukimura would forfeit. Speaking of how he had loss too much chakra and sustained too much damage.

On this day, Yukimura may have loss in the first round but out of all the contestants that had participated in the tournament, he had definately proved to be the only one capable of rational thought and battle tactics.

Chapter 5: Your Bodyguard

His time as a ninja would prove very valuable. He had taken on many missions since he had first arrived in Kirigakure. So much so that he would become chuunin in what would seem to be, no time at all. On record he would be shown to have never attended the academy, was allowed genin status from the GERTs exam, and within two years had become chuunin. This in itself would be a remarkable feet but it is often over looked by those who did not witness the GERTs exam, mainly because of his age. By no means has Yukimura ever been mentioned as a shinobi genius or prodigy, he was just a very capable ninja, able to get the job done by force and without force.

At the age of fifteen, Yukimura would be sent out on a C-ranked mission to simply scout the movements of a known criminal south east of Avalon. The intel that Yukimura had gotten, showed that this criminal was preparing to sell secrets of Kirigakure to the highest bidder somewhere south east of Avalon. Yukimura was right on it, having completed four C-ranked missions before, this didn't seem anything special. Normally a higher ranking ninja would get this job, for the council really wanted to assassinate the criminal and retrieve the valuable scrolls, but the village was short on ninjas at the moment.

Yukimura had arrived in the designated area on time. He would find himself hiding out, waiting for the target to appear. In a few days time, the target had appeared with many body guards beside him. This was obviously the place for the meeting but before Yukimura could move to a better location, other ninja had attempted to kill the man and retrieve the documents for whatever reason. Whether the two ninja would succeed or not didn't matter for it would cause his mission to go south in a hurry. Acting quickly, Yukimura had moved from his spot at the tea house and watched the attack occur. The man's body guards were of no use, they were simple thugs with swords and no combat experience what so ever. This was Yukimura's moment to step in, with two parries, he had tossed two poison tipped senbon into the assailants' neck.

Upon closer investigation, he would notice that the two ninja were of Kirigakure. It made no sense for he was on the mission currently. Luckily the poison was not fatal, instead just a "fake death" if you will. Turning to his target, he pronounced the guys dead, even though they weren't. Now that the man had no bodyguards, he asked Yukimura to accompany him as a bodyguard. At first he had declined but then the man offered money, and Yukimura would accept his offer.

Chapter 6: The Brothel

After accepting the job, the man would introduce himself as Kuwabara. Then he had taken Yukimura to a brothel, this would be the place where the deal would go down. As his bodyguard, Yukimura would have to be at his side at all times. Entering the large brothel, the two would rendevous with many other people in a large room. Yukimura had noticed headbands from countries such as Iwagakure, Kusagakure, and even minor countries such as Amegakure. Kuwabara would announce that he wanted the deal to go smoothly and allow people to relax before the official time for the deal to go down. Kuwabara's hospitality would prove great, he rented out the entire brothel and allowed the men to relax before the proper time.

Accompanying Kuwabara to his room. Yukimura would be told to stay in the next room. He did not want Yukimura to participate in what was going to happen in his room. Instead he 'arranged' for Yukimura's own entertainment in the next room. Yukimura at first declined but Kuwabara had insisted that the entertainment would be worth while. Heading towards his own room, Yukimura would find two young women in the room, pulling him in and instructing him to sit down. Yukimura had resisted their advances as much as he could before being forced into Wakamezake.

After the Wakamezake, Yukimura's more 'affectionate' side had come forth. After this, Yukimura would not remember much of what happened. After some time, a knock at Yukimura's door would earn his attention. Opening the door, he would find Kuwabara ready for the deal to be done. Gathering himself, Yukimura would dress immediately and follow Kuwabara to the meeting room. It was at this time that Yukimura had exchanged himself with a bunshin. As the deal went down, tempers began to flare, the highest bidder was Amegakure but the others could not accept this and a fight broke out. Kuwabara attempted to flee but the body guards of the other men had stopped him.

In the chaos, Yukimura's bunshin had exploded into smoke and from this smoke, needles sent everywhere. Yukimura would aquire the vital documents that Kuwabara attempted to sale but his honor could not let him simpy leave Kuwabara there. With some sword play, Yukimura would get Kuwabara out of the now burning brothel. On the outskirts of this red light district village, Yukimura would tell Kuwabara to head to the docks west of their location, there a boat should get him out of the country. It was suprising to Kuwabara to say the least but he didn't care because of the situation. Yukimura had the documents in hand and directed Kuwabara straight to the Mist ANBU unit.

Chapter 7: Chuunin Status

Yukimura had returned to the village victorious, not only that but Kuwabara was now in the custody of Kirigakure. For Yukimura's actions, he was given the rank of Chūnin. It was not expected but the feeling of joy filled his body. As he accepted the title of Chūnin, Yukimura had met up with long time sensei, Shougo. In the presence of a Hisame Ichizoku senior, Yukimura was awarded the Hisame Ichizoku tunic. This item would replace the Chūnin vest normally worn by Chūnin ninja.

This was the mark of a new chapter in Yukimura's life. He was expected to perform his Chūnin duties to the best of his ability and represent the Hidden Mist with honor. In the next three years, Yukimura would find himself taking on two more C-ranked missions that would send him to the mainland and on the high seas. He traveled to the Earth Country for diplomatic reasons and would stay there for a year before returning back to Kirigakure. Once he had returned, he was given half a year off for training reasons before being sent out on the eastern oceans.

While on the eastern oceans, he would find himself traveling from island to island on more diplomatic engagements. His smooth way of talking had earned him the right to take on Kirigakure's liaison misions. He would find himself in the Wave Country, Tea Country, Nagi Island, O'uzu Island, and the Sea Country before returning to Kirigakure with positive feedback from every country. It wasn't long before Yukimura was given another break from duty. Having spent two years on liaison, he was given half a year break both times after the missions. This time Yukimura would deem it correct to take vacation on Crescent Moon Island of the Moon Country.

It has been around six months since Yukimura had taken his vacation on the beautiful tourist spot that is Crescent Moon Island. Now eightteen years old, he is currently on route back to the Hidden Mist Village. Wondering what new things await him in the village that he had been away from for so long.

• Yukimura was named after the famous japanese general of the sengoku period, Sanada Yukimura.
• Although he was raised by a samurai master, when Yukimura first appears, he shows no kenjutsu abilities at all.
• When Yukimura was first introduced he spoke with a feminine speech pattern. This later slightly disappears after the 5 year time skip, still using "ara?" and "desu-ne?" feminine speech patterns.
• Being of Hisame descent, he is the only Hisame clansmen to not refer to themselves with the Hisame surname.
• Even though he is known as Yukimura Sanada, his birth name is never revealed. He was given a new name when he began his new life as Kenshin's apprentice.
• He is the only known NA character to follow some sort of religious ideals; The Hagakure.
