Mako Sarutobi (猿飛マコ, Sarutobi Mako) is one of the promising academy students of Konohagakure, as well as a descendant of the Sarutobi clan. Despite his lineage, he has yet to make a name for himself. Sarutobi Mako is the current PC of the role-player Miso.

Background

Prologue – Sunyin Port
Mako was born the youngest of fraternal twins on August 12, 2104 under the banner of Konohagakure. The son of Kurama and Chiaki Sarutobi, his first few years of life would be pleasant until the attack of Kumogakure. After the death of his father during the initial stand against Kumo, his mother Chiaki had moved the family to her hometown of Sunyin Port. Spending all of his life at the port city, they avoided the brunt of Kumo and the NCIA from conception to collapse. At the age of six, Mako's twin Kairi, had fell into the harbor by accident while playing ninja. Though she would be saved and would recover, she had developed a rare illness that had caused her to lose much of her hearing and limit her severely in day-to-day life. In 2114, the untimely death of his sister had greatly affected Mako. While not becoming angry or rebellious, he did become difficult socially; introverted.

At the age of eleven, Mako continued his quiet life with his mother in Sunyin Port, away from the influences of shinobi in Konohagakure. While his life was typical, a fateful encounter with a child by the name of Naminé would change that forever. In a similar turn of events, Naminé fell into the harbor after playing ninja. Jumping into the harbor as soon as he did, Mako was able to rescue the child before any further harm could be sustained. As the catalyst of altering a similar event, Naminé had in turn become a catalyst in Mako's decision to follow the ninja path; calling him her "hero". Much like his twin sister Kairi, Mako decided that in order to protect people like Naminé and his late sister, the path from within Konoha was what he wanted.

As a late entrant into the Leaf Academy, early 2116, Mako's journey had finally began.

Personality

As an adolescent, Mako is oddly relaxed for his age. However, this does not remove the fact that he is still a boy with very little life experience, leading to a naive outlook on the world around. Despite losing his twin sister, he had never truly become brooding or stand offish. Instead, he remains quiet but with a positive outlook in most situations. This isn't to say that he is immune to external irritants but certainly, the springtime of youth is upon him. All things said, Mako does have the odd knack for easily agreeing with other people's opinions or decisions and then in a most bothersome way, just as easily go his own way if deemed necessary. Though this nature has a way of creating problems for himself, he tends to forget most negative things that happen, including things that he has said or done.

Appearance

Displaying the distinct features from both parent's lineage makes Mako a sore thumb around the village. Possessing the frame for athletic potential and unruly hair from his Sarutobi father, coupled with thick textured hair, green hues in his eyes, and rich melanin of the skin by way of his mother's Rai no Kuni ancestry. He is a unique blend of the two ancestral countries, all while having a natural look of displeasure strewn across his face, even when not displeased at all.

  • Casual: Typically seen in loose fitting tops and jogger type trousers. The fabric and materials that make up his clothing vary from time to time but his preference for single layer clothing and comfortable trousers is the overall theme of his appearance. Coupled together with practical footwear for play and everyday activity; Mako can be described as very low maintenance.

Abilities

Lacking the formal experience in ninpō the average child of the village has, Mako's initial starting point was further behind than the normal academy entrant. An innate ability to digest techniques aided his effort to quickly reach the assessment level of the nearest graduating class. Since his entrance into the academy, Mako became adept in harijutsu with the capability to set traps and easily hit targets. Noted to be a very talented shinobi, Mako is well-rounded in various skills.

    • His attributes are: 116 in intelligence, 120 in negotiations, 119 in dexterity, 106 in strength, 128 in perception, and 135 in chakra.
    • He was also given a skill rating in these particular areas:
      • Knowledge of Ninjutsu: ★★★★☆
      • Marksmanship: ★★★☆☆
      • Unarmed Hand-to-hand Fighting: ★★☆☆☆

The Ninja Path

Academy Days & Graduation Arc

Two weeks after leaving the coastal city of Sunyin Port, Mako began his tenure at the Hidden Leaf Village's Academy. Though late entrants were generally required to enroll with the next year's starting class, his familial ties with the former Hokage and Daimyo's Sentinel Guard, enabled a special exception to be made for the youth. The conditions of his late entry had left Mako with little time to build social bonds with the other academy students and due to these conditions, rumors of special treatment spread around his class which left Mako further distanced from his fellow classmates. Within three weeks, he had caught up to the progress of his classmates but with the conditions of his late entry, was bound to the agreement until a formal assessment was made so that he may be integrated with that year's graduating class.

Several weeks into his tenure at the Leaf Academy, Mako was paired with a Chûnin mentor by the name of, Aburame Hounoki to help guide him along in the process of completing the academy. Meeting with Hounoki, the pair undertaken a day trip to the Valley of the End but not before making a short stop at the Konoha cemetery. It was within the cemetery alongside Hounoki that Mako would have a distinct representation of what it meant to serve his village and country. The rows of men and women whom passed in the line of duty of various reasons, the weight that people like Hounoki and Mako carried with the loss of loved ones, friendships, comrades. As well as appropriate and healthy ways to manage that weight. It was there that Mako had come to grips with losing his father at a young age; the weight on his shoulders alleviated.

The two departed Konoha for the Valley of the End. A quick re-fueling stop at a sit down barbecue restaurant, Mako's personality had managed to rub Hounoki the wrong way. While she would indulge his rashness by explaining her unique condition as an Aburame and that she had managed to heal people with her condition. Though Mako had prodded old wounds of Hounoki, he had made it a point to apologize for his rudeness before continuing their trek to The Valley of the End.

Accepting his apology, the two had made their way to the Valley of the End. Lightly glossing over the remnants of events that had occurred in history at this site. Their talk was interrupted with the intrusion of a powerful Yokai, Nui, that had a piqued interest in him. Stepping forth onto the body of water that was frozen solid by the Yokai, a multitude of disembodied voiced echoed in the distance; spectating; instigating while Nui poked and prodding him with conjecture at each response. After a short battle of wills, the Yokai had pressed enough to incite a reaction out of Hounoki as Mako refused to succumb to the Nui's taunting. Leading to Mako running for shore where Hounoki stood.

As Mako attempted to run, Nui had gone on the offensive. Breaking through the ice sheet and latching onto Mako's leg with needle like teeth, pulling him to the depths below. Within the depths of the water, Nui had taken to shaking the life from him akin to the way a Sea Lion may attack a Penguin; ceasing to taunt him as he left him to drown. Mako's resilience had proven to be an aberration to Nui's beliefs of the human condition. Enraged by the defiant nature of him, Nui went for the kill, severing Mako's leg with a final crunch and shake of the boy's body. In an instant, Mako had come to- on the banks of the lake as if awaking from a dream. Hounoki beside him, face lightly dusted by snow, Mako woke her. As confused about the ordeal as Mako but with a heightened sense of situational awareness, she quickly fled the area with Mako in tow. Returning to Konoha.
