Hisame Honsou
Hisame Honsou is a mystery to many in Kirigakure. Though he is part of the legendary Hisame clan, he comes from a branch who sought to forsake ninjutsu entirely, so he went most of his life with no ninja training, just innate power and the drive to master his body. Time has been cruel to him, and Honsou has suffered much, but he is well known for his weird but generally positive approach to all those about him.
Appearance
- Hair: Honsou has long, straight hair that is meticulously tied and pinned in a topknot each and every morning. It is dark in tone, but possessed of a majestic glisten when the light catches it just right.
- Facial Hair: Just amazing. His beard is the kind lesser men dream of. Rumours abound that his beard alone could kill an enemy combatant through sheer awe. That an entire bottle of conditioner is consumed each night to keep it lustrous. Some even believe that it was a dark pact with an evil Yokai that allowed so magnificent a beard to come into being. Honsou will not speak on his beard, other than to warn his teammates that its care routine never relents, not even on a mission.
- Eyes: Dark brown, as is common to the Hisame clan, but possessed of an uncommon fire raging behind them.
- Clothing:
- General: Honsou typically wears a simple, dark blue-green robe with a cream-white trim that he ties in place with a long brown sash wrapped twice around his waist. Often, his haori robes are not pulled over his shoulders, revealing his physique to onlookers. He wears fairly basic sandals, and loose brown pants to allow for great ease of movement. In general, his attire is designed not to draw attention away from his body, though if it is particularly cold he might pull the sleeves of his robe on for warmth if required.
- Headgear: Where he goes all out, however, is his head wear. From his travels, Honsou acquired a magnificent golden crown, which he insists on wearing at almost all times. A long golden needle and decorative hair clasp pin his hair up, and draw attention to the face he is so very proud of.

- Physical Description:
- Honsou: Honsou's flesh is a pale, crystalline white like his clan mates, but covered in dark scar tissue that hides the darker shades of his past. Honsou is a beast of a man, towering over most other shinobi and wrapped in thick layers of muscle. He is proud of his physique, and takes great efforts to continually sculpt his body to perfection. His features are pointed, like an immaculately carved ice sculpture. To some, he is the peak of manhood. To others, a pretentious, narcissistic fool. To Honsou, he is yet incomplete.
History
- Youth
Honsou's youth was honestly not that exciting. His father was an ex-shinobi, his mother while a member of a great ninja clan never possessed any desire to master the clan's kekkei genkai if at all she possessed it. They had moved to a large house which his mother, Honoka, was converting into a lavish estate for them to get away from the drama and conflict of the village. He grew up away from much of Kirigakure's problems, his father insisting the boy not become a ninja in spite of the Hisame push to reclaim a wayward branch of the clan. He was instead trained in the arts, in music and dance, the physical pursuits he mastered were those like running, long jump or sports archery. Whatever he learned, he did so for the passion of it, not to build him into a tool for war. Things changed, however, when a conflict in the village spilled over and threatened to endanger the life Yuzu and Honoka had worked so hard to build for their son. So they hid him with a friend when trouble came to their home, and for years Honsou would never know what happened that day. Because, adventurous child such as he was, he slipped the care of his parents' friend, and ended up on a one man ship, sail down, and whisked off to sea.
He can't remember how long he was at sea, but he very quickly taught himself how to fish with wire he found on the boat, and there was a standard water case to keep him going if he rationed it. Honsou was eight years old. It was a miracle that he even survived the trip to begin with, but eventually his ship ran aground somewhere well off any map he'd ever known of. He didn't know where he was, but in as far as he could tell, Honsou was alone.
The island he landed on was quite large, and possessed enough natural resources he could make do for the time being. He could hunt, fish, forage and find water with relative ease, though being young he was in no shape to be in charge of running his own life. Thankfully someone happened upon him. They didn't speak the same language he did, so communication was rudimentary at best, but this foreigner dressed in exotic, flowing garbs and smelled of perfumes, and carried fruits the boy had never seen or tasted back in Kirigakure. One thing led to another, and Honou was adopted into a strange society, whereby he learned the ways of these people. The land, he learned, was known as the Turtle Islands, and its inhabitants the Dragon People. Their beliefs were wildly different to those of the ninja world, there was no talk of bloodline abilities, chakra or ninja villages, just a close knit family structure where everyone worked for the greater good of the clan. They had close cousins in the Bird and Tiger people who also lived amongst the Turtle Islands, but the occasional conflict would rise between them. With no Yuzu to guide him away for it, the tall and reasonably strong Honsou was taught the basic fighting arts of the Dragon People, and helped to protect them for the four years he stayed with them.
- Teenage Years
As he grew older, a sense he hadn't quite felt before overcame him. It might have started out of homesickness, a desire to return to the society of his birth, but with no idea where that could be, he would as likely sail to his death. So instead, his soul called out to him to travel, search far and wide for home, if not the one he lost then maybe a new one for a while. So with the help of the Dragon Clan's craftsmen, his original ship was salvaged and rebuilt, ready to tackle the distant seas far beyond Kirigakure's reach.
He travelled through many strange, unique societies, and spend a couple years with each as he found it. There was no common tongue out here, so much of his time was dedicated to learning local languages and dialects to facilitate communication, and it wasn't long before Honsou found a purpose in his youth. As he was travelling far, and learning the ways to speak to the disparate tribes of this area, Honsou became invaluable to trade and communication between these people. His trips were constant, his life was at sea. Wherever he went, people showered him with gifts and praise, thankful of whatever he brought and eager to share goods to be taken abroad. Thoughts of returning to Kiri, of reuniting with family, over time, were beginning to fade. Eventually, he found even remembering how ninja society worked growing increasingly difficult. It just wasn't him anymore. He had a life now, and it was all his. Occasionally, for his size and growing strength, he was roped into conflicts where he could not only knock heads together, but help provide valuable translations during negotiations. Life was great. Honsou was respected, he was needed. He hadn't even realised when it became the case, but he realised that now, he was home.
- Turmoil
As he entered his last few teenage years, rumours began spreading of an unknown force approaching the island chain. Called the Steel People, for their vast resources of metals and incredibly powerful arms and armour, they were an invading force the likes of which the islands had never faced before. As was oft the case, they called on Honsou to work with them, and for the first time in the history of their peoples the great clans stood together as one. Bird, Dragon or Tiger didn't matter. They were the Turtle People, these were their islands, and they had no intention of backing down.
It was a massacre.
They simply were no match for the comparatively technologically superior Steel People, and at some stage in the fight, Honsou was captured. He had lost in battle, and to make matters worse his ship, the last remnant of who had been born to be, was gone. Sunk beneath the island waves. He was relegated to a slave for this strange tribe, and they made him work. Every day, twelve long hours in the sun labouring to build stone statues and monuments to reinforce the power of the Steel People to the tribes they had conquered. Being moved around this strange, growing empire, Honsou never had the chance to see how the island chain survived, if it did at all. Years passed of hard labour, until one day, a strange man in a styalised mask approached his training and offered to purchase Honsou for his collection. It seemed a wonderful idea now, but never again would he have the chance to return to the islands and see what his failure had led to earlier.
- Training with the Masked Man
It wasn't all bouts of pain and suffering, as much as the masked man tore Honsou apart, he built him back together stronger than before. Every day was split comfortably into three parts, experiments to start the day, training to bulk it out, and rest to finish it off. The training was grueling, in some parts worse than the insidious experiments to which he was subjected to each day, but they served a singular purpose. Whoever this man in the mask was, he had designs to test something, to forestall some future event, and for that he needed data. Honsou was the source of his data. In as far as Honsou recalls, there were several moments where he with no uncertainty died, he can clearly remember being impaled through the chest, having the moisture ripped wholesale from his body, and being crushed to death under a landslide. And yet, every time, he was put back together and set out.
A strange thing started happening as the years of training progressed. It never became pleasant, persay, but Honsou started finding less cause to suffer. Three days, five days, a week without food, that was approaching doable. Physically his muscle mass had bulked significantly, and he'd even grown by nearly a foot to tower over most anyone he came across. His soul was hardened, not so easily was he fazed, excepting of course when experiment time came around. But training? That became a breeze. He was set and ready, the masked man had something planned and a part of him looked forward to being part of it.
Then one day, it all changed. During training, it began to rain. Whether by accident or some genius internal connection of actions and ideas, Honsou froze the water around him into sharp blades and launched them subconsciously at his trainer, who taken aback was impaled several times and left injured. It hadn't been intentional, and it was all done so quickly Honsou barely had time to stop and consider his actions, but his course was clear. Some memory of his true home awakened in him, and he sought nothing else but to escape, and return to the distant lands from whence he came.
With speed he has never since or again possessed, Honsou crafted a simple raft and sail from whatever tools and materials he could find lying around, then set off, letting his spirit plot the course, and guide him back home.
Trivia

- Honsou styles himself as a monk in pursuit of perfection. He trains his body, spirit and mind, and while he's certainly the oldest gennin, he has managed to earn at least some respect from his peers.
- Private Knowledge, IC
- The masked man who trained Honsou no doubt is not done with him, and Honsou fears he will one day return.
- It is a closely guarded secret that Honsou's bear routine takes four hours a day, involves seventeen different natural oils, uses a comb carved from a single block of jade and no other
- Fun Facts OOC!
- Princess' fifth character, which is an awful lot.
- Princess was playing lots of Dynasty Warriors at the time, so felt NA needed some Guan Yu, despite Princess being a die-hard Wei fan.
- Honsou is the first character princess hasn't planned to just B line experience on, because gowing a bit slow and mastering himself is the cannon approach of Honsou.
- Though counter to the above statement, changes to how genjutsu stat changes work, Princess has to rapidly rush to chuunin to repair Honsou's triple hybrid build.
