Physical Description: Many see Taisuke as thin and weak, but he is rather built of wiry, lean sinews. He has close to no fat on his body whatsoever. Taisuke much prefers to keep his hair short, especially because of the fact that he wears a cloth on his head that covers his missing right eye. He wears his hitai-ate on his right right arm at shoulder height. His wings are white with mottled gray feathers strewn through unsystematically. He does not wear a pouch for his small weapons or items, as he has hidden pockets within his shirt.

Persona

Soushirui Taisuke: inspiration's Rendition

Personality: Taisuke believes that any human that is imbued with a "bloodline” is gifted with a greater potential than other humans. He feels moderately superior to regular humans because they do not share the gift of a bloodline. He is fascinated with anatomy and medical ninjutsu, and understands because of his own childhood the fragility of life. He does not like to talk about his missing eye, and always feels like he is being judged because of it. Friends he makes are friends for life, but he never really learns to trust his normal human friends. He trusts his genetically altered friends almost to a fault, however.
Likes: Doesn't enjoy, but likes the smell of blood. He finds it somewhat calming. He thoroughly enjoys bows, especially yumi in style. Books of any kind, but especially those on medical ninjutsu and anatomy.
Dislikes: Optical illusions, or anything that messes with sight, or any of the other senses. (That means you, Genjutsu!) People he considers immature. Shy people. Hates prejudice.

History

Prologue

Father...

I know the truth about what happened to my father. He was killed. I was told that he died in the sandstorm that swept through when I was ten years old, the same year I lost my eye. Soushirui Sho had left to gather what herbs may be found in the desert. He did not return from his venture. A sandstorm had whipped up shortly after he had left, however, and the clan feared that he may be caught in the storm. He did not return, and the next day a group of foreign ninja gave Sunagakure a visit. One of the shinobi, a big man with battle scars across his face and a newer gash across his left cheek, saw me and grinned. Shivers ran up my spine.
The Council of Elders did not believe me when I spoke to them. They believed that Sho had died in the sudden sandstorm. They did not consider the fact that Sho had already lived through one that was worse than the recent squall. He was perhaps the best flier in the clan. But it did not matter. I was a child, and they refused to listen. My mother was the same. She, however, simply believed that he had somehow gotten lost and would eventually find his way home.

Birth...

I was born in the spring of 2101 Aetas Argentums, before Kumogakure had dominated the known world. I scarcely survived my own delivery. Born with several heart defects, it took several highly experience medical ninja to keep me alive and heal my heart. Looking back, I feel that this event helped me to decide what path I would travel in my life. Unfortunately, I was never able to meet the ninja who saved me, for the traveled from around the world and were not exclusively ninja of the village hidden in the sand.

Early Childhood...

From the time I could walk, I'd loved my wings. Every day I would run about in the clan's backyard, flapping my wings and playing with the other children. Most of the other children's were browns and grays. Mine where uniquely white, and I was proud of them. My father was proud above all of our clan and genetic heritage, and he was very proud of me. My father's wings were gray with black scattered throughout. My mother however, had gray with white scattered throughout. They didn't understand why mine were white, so they hailed me as the miracle of the family. They believe it was because of what I survived during birth.

My father felt that we were superior to all other races of humanity. This he attempted to breed into me from birth. Perhaps he would have been completely successful if my mother had not been a moderate within the clan. She believed all humans to be equal, at least in potential. The two beliefs did not fully register in my mind until I was about six years old. I believe that this upbringing fueled the fire of my own beliefs.

The Reign of Kumogakure and the NCIA...

When I was about six years old, the world was taken by storm. Kumogakure, seemingly overnight, had taken control of the known world. I was still too young to have really understood what the word "overlord” meant, but my father made it clear to me that he hated the Empire and so I did as well. Later on, after the founding of the NCIA, I found that the only reason that my clan had not been exterminated as a threat to Kumo was because we were a good source of scout shinobi and information gatherers. Kumogakure also knew that we could be easily controlled because of my clan's weakness to bright light. The clan hated Kumo.

When the resistance formed in Sunagakure, my father was one of the first to join. I wanted to help out, but they refused me, saying that I was too young to be any help. A few of my clan decided to join Kumo in order to betray information to the resistance. Several of them were never heard from again. The clan's numbers deteriorated as Kumo and the NCIA assassinated them one by one. My family went into hiding, with assistance from the resistance. We managed to survive in hiding until the fateful day that Sunagakure was freed from subjection to Kumogakure.

Every day, my father's hatred toward the Empire grew. He often went on long trips, supporting the resistances that had sprouted throughout the captured shinobi villages. Eventually, by the time I was nine, the last of the Empire had been retaken. I was bitter that I had never been allowed to help my father, but he was happy that I had been willing to help.

Youth...

When I was roughly seven years of age, I was introduced to books. Immediately I fell in love. It was not enough for my parents to find me a tutor to learn to read, so I began to learn during my free time. I played with the other children less and less as I began to read more and more. The clan assisted me as best they could by providing me with full access to the Soushirui library, and so I spent quite the portion of my early life in the library. In the library I found books about ninja. They were few and far between, but I also found several books about medical ninjutsu and anatomy. I could barely understand the concepts but I read them anyways. I often go back and read them again when I have time.

When I was nine years old, it was decided by my father that it was time that I begin to learn the skills desired to become a shinobi of Sunagakure. He disliked the Kumogakure empire that had sprouted up, and he wanted to support Sunagakure after it had won back autonomy. He also wanted me to make a great name for myself and the clan, and knew that the fastest way to fame was to become a ninja. My excitement was piqued. I had always pretended to be a ninja when I played with the other children, and I had read a bit about ninjutsu during my time in the library. The clan provided training for younglings such as myself, but it was basic unless the clan member had managed to become a shinobi. Higher level skills the clan taught were only offered to those of Chunnin level in Sunagakure. I was able to learn basic combat skills as well as the usage of differing ranged weapons. I began to adore bows, especially those of the yumi style.

Shortly after this decision, my father disappeared…

The Academy...

The ninja academy in Sunagakure had plenty to offer for me. I was admitted by my mother after my father's disappearance. Ever since the disappearance of my father, I had began to garner strong anger. I missed my father, and deep down I knew that he had been murdered. I wanted to become strong so I could search out the group of ninja and kill them, a childish dream. I expected to graduate in a year at best. What really happened was that I had to remain at the school until I was fourteen. For some reason I had absolutely no grasp of genjutsu. I excelled at melee and ranged combat despite my missing eye, and I learned ninjutsu quickly enough that my teacher called in a medical ninja to tutor me at my request. But I could barely manage even the most basic genjutsu, such as transformation and cloning. I never liked manipulation of the senses to begin with, which probably did not help me on my path as an academy student.

Eventually, it was decided that I would graduate. It was probably due to the fact that I had already learned the basics of medical jutsu, and I was more than proficient in ranged combat. I was embarrassed, but my mother was proud that I was still able to graduate from the academy as a gennin of Sunagakure.

The Eye...

Taisuke wandered through the streets, thoroughly enjoying the cool breeze that accompanied nighttime in the desert. It was past the curfew his mother had given him, but he really did not care. He wanted to brood alone. His day had been difficult at the academy. He had been the object of insult because he was the only one in the class who could not yet perform some of the basics of the genjutsu the class was learning. Looking up, he saw the moon. It stared back at him, full and appealing. He felt the desire in his heart to fly into the air, up and up until he arrived there at the moon. He stood there for an hour, flexing his wings subconsciously as he gazed at the bright orb in the sky. His fixation broke when there was a sudden gush of wind into the air from a distance away. The moon became a dark red, bitter and rusty.

The small hairs on his neck stood up, and Taisuke shivered with goose bumps. It was an odd feeling, and Taisuke had the idea that something was going to happen that night. As he began his journey home, the wind became less of a pleasant breeze and more so a stinging gust. His heart began to beat harder as he neared his home. Every shadow he saw he took to be someone following him, stalking him. He bolted, flapping his wings to help him run faster. Breathing heavily, he arrived home in safety. His mother waited at the door for him, eyes filled with worry. She embraced him as he wept from the fear.

The next day was the day off from the academy, and Taisuke's mother had given him money to go to the market. There he would buy food for meals for the next week. His mother knew that he wanted to buy one of the black yumi bows, long and beautiful, that the arms merchant was selling. She knew that he would try his best to bargain and get a good deal so he could keep the extra money and save up to buy the weapon. And , with money in hand, he traveled to the market.

Later that day, Taisuke began the passage home. He was more than happy with his catch. He had managed to save more than usual. Perhaps there was an abundance of food he had guessed. In reality the merchants had simply been feeling more generous to the ten year old they had gotten to know for the past two years. As usual, Taisuke went the back way home. The weapon shop was a bit out of the way, but he still managed to make it every week before dark to admire the bow.

Before long, however, the sun began to set. Taisuke had spent more time than usual admiring his favorite shop due to the fact that they had had a recent shipment of new weaponry. When he realized that he was going to be late getting home, he said his goodbyes quickly and rushed out the door. After about five minutes of brisk walking, Taisuke stopped dead in his tracks. Thirty feet away, a tall boy with black cloth wrapped around his head stepped out of an alleyway. In his hand he held a knife. Taisuke saw the malice that was contained in the eyes of the boy. Slowly turning around, he began to walk back towards the marketplace. Another boy, shorter and more stocky but with the same wrappings around his head, stepped out to block Taisuke's path. His heart began to beat faster and harder. He bolted into a side alley, food on his back. About twenty yards later, another boy stepped out to block Taisuke. He held a wooden club in a menacing fashion, threatening to beat Taisuke into the dust. He was trapped; he had nowhere to go. On every side of him there was an adversary, and they wanted to hurt him.

Suddenly, something struck Taisuke in the back of the head. He fell to his knees. The stinging intensified as he reached his hand up to feel the moistness in his hair. Drawing his hand back, eyes watering, he saw the dripping red liquid. He managed to fight off the nausea in his stomach and stand up, but as he did he noticed that the tallest boy was standing in front of him. Before he could run, the boy punched him in the stomach, hard. Taisuke cried out in pain as ribs broke, and blood bubbled up to his mouth. The boy kneed him in the face, just missing Taisuke's nose. As his face lifted in the air, the boy slashed at his right eye and gashed it open. The last word he heard before he fell into the darkness of unconsciousness was "freak.”

When he did not arrive home at the normal time, Taisuke's mother began to worry. When the sun was nearly hidden by the horizon, she called upon the Council of the Elders. They sent several clansmen out to search for Taisuke. They found him eventually, but they were almost too late to save his life. Luckily a medical ninja was living nearby and heard the commotion. He was amazed to see all of the winged people, ninja and otherwise, flocking around a boy of their kind. He was able to heal Taisuke's internal bleeding, but was unable to save Taisuke's eye. They brought him home safely, and he was eventually able to heal after a few weeks in bed.

The night after his recovery, the clansmen searched for the assailants to with no success. Taisuke's food and money had been stolen as well as being attacked. Taisuke was sore to hear this because the money he had was everything he had saved for two years to buy the bow. The clansmen came together and gave him part of what he had earned, though, to make him feel a bit better. Taisuke was eventually able to rejoin the academy, and had to learn again many of the basics that had required perfect depth perception. He was, however, ultimately able to push past that obstacle and graduate from the academy as gennin.
