Aragane shun
Aragane Shuni (鉱 瞬, Shun Aragane) is a shinobi of Iwagakure no Sato. Though he was born to the neutral Aragane clan within the Country of Coal, he took on an interest to the shinobi arts early in his life and used every excuse to study them under the expensive private tutors afforded by his family’s economic position. When he found that the wandering shinobi teaching him were willfully neglecting his studies to extort more money from his parents, he left home to seek proper teachings from Iwagakure no Sato. He seeks now to expand his strength and circle of influence so as to acquire the world’s greatest treasures, with hopes of protecting them from misuse at the hands of the foolish or unworthy.
Background
Prologue; Lavish Beginnings
- Aragane Shun was born into a prosperous life as the only child of an arranged marriage between Aragane Tsutomu [鉱 勉] and Kurosawa Ameko [黒澤 雨娘]. As a child of wealth, Shun was raised primarily by proxy and was homeschooled by the finest private tutors that money could buy. Around the age of six, the boy’s inherited kekkei genkai manifested and set him on a path to learning the shinobi arts. While his particular branch of the family was not known for their exceptional shinobi ability, his early training sessions with hired shinobi proved that the boy’s real talents lie within the utilization of the Ekikoton and Weapon-based combat. After his training with private tutors had reached a peak, the boy realized that he could learn no more from paid teachers and began to seek learning elsewhere. Within the country of Coal, he found its options incredibly limited, forcing him to turn to the only logical decision: Iwagakure no Sato.
- With a desire to ascend above the greatest of the Aragane legends, Shun set out for Iwagakure with hopes of training under those more knowledgeable than his own business-minded family or the rogue shinobi they had employed. Upon arrival within the Hidden Stone, he immediately enrolled himself within the academy and graduated shortly thereafter. He presently awaits assignment as a genin, ready to take the world in his hand- where it rightfully belongs.
Part 1; A Piss-Poor Party
- After graduating from Iwagakure’s Shinobi Academy, Shun was placed onto the remnants of Iwa Team 4- a genin cell that had mostly fallen apart in the aftermath of the Iwagakure-Yukigakure war, comprised now of Ippo Biju, Tenshi Mujona, Aragane Shun, and their Jonin Teacher, Kenta Ken’ichi. Despite being taught to work in a cohesive unit, Shun remained contemptful of his new allies and the Jonin that was to lead them. He found them too annoying as a group to be given any serious amount of respect and opted to spend most of his time mocking or even recklessly endangering them for his own amusement.
- Despite the initial tensions, their team pushed forward to investigate a sinkhole that had appeared suddenly on the outskirts of Iwagakure. After descending down the rather expansive hole, the team found that there was a cavern that served as a crude entry-way into an underground city or temple of some manner. Hoping to be the first to acquire any riches and rare artifacts beyond the entrance, Shun pushed forward and inadvertently triggered the ruin’s defense mechanism- a large unit of automated stone golems. Though Team 4 collectively put up a valiant fight against the stone men, they ultimately were forced to retreat deeper into the structure and seal the passage behind them, as the sheer number of stone-men was proving to be too numerous for the fresh genin to handle even alongside their teacher.
- Inside the structure, the team spotted a large chest that seemed to radiate with potential for rare artifacts. Desiring to snatch up the valuables before any of his team had the chance to dirty the treasure’s value with their unworthy hands, Shun raced forward and attempted to open the chest-- which again triggered a defense mechanism. Their Jonin, Ken’ichi, was able to race forward and throw Shun back in time… but found himself caught, upside-down, in a protectice force-field of some kind. Though it took a considerable amount of time, the Genin team was able to eventually discover the method by which the field functioned and successfully disabled it, allowing them to free Ken’ichi and inspect the contents of the chest. Ken’ichi scooped up three orbs from within before Shun could seize them and then lead the team safely out of the structure, successfully avoiding the golem trap as they did so.
Personality
- It is not uncommon for Aragane Shun to be described as an unpleasant person. Though he is not directly antagonistic, he is an egotistical individual with a penchant for demeaning those that do not measure up to his self-placed standards. He is often seen as a boy with no filter and a knack for being overly blunt, even in some situations where it is not otherwise called for. Though he shows a measure of respect to those in positions greater than his own, Shun is the sort to be wary of any individual who has not immediately shown their ability to him personally. Through this, it can be seen that the boy is a natural skeptic; consequently, he has a talent and appreciation for the sciences more so than any sort of mysticism or legend.
- However harsh he may be, Shun has been misattributed as a particularly loyal individual. He tends to hold true to his promises, and enjoys seeing his close companions pleased; often, he will often spend large amounts of money on his friends as his way of showing affection, despite his otherwise frugal spending habits. The boy often rises to anger when one of his friends or family are injured or threatened, and will step in the way of most oncoming trials to prevent a friend from enduring an unnecessary hardship. These habits are often seen as an underlying “protective” nature, and such assumptions tend to only be partially correct. In actuality, Shun is an boy with a habit of viewing people as possessions. His friends are readily identified as his friends, and he frequently thinks of friends in a rather cold fashion- many of them will get internal rankings that vary based on their immediate usefulness or how pleasant Shun finds their company. Typically, these hidden “ranks” will determine how sharp the Aragane’s words tend to be, or just how large of a dinner he is willing to buy them.
- His sociopathic personality traits and tendency to act selfishly have led to Shun being very adept at accomplishing his own goals, often at the expense of others. He aspires to own the greatest collection of rare items, and indeed individuals, in the world. Driven by and filled with avarice, Shun has decided that the world already belongs to him- it just doesn’t know it yet.
Appearance
- Aragane Shun stands in stark contrast to the majority of Aragane found within Iwagakure no Sato, with light skin, and lighter yet hair. Heiring from a wealthier branch of the clan within the country of Coal, Shun does not appear to have spent any significant amount of time around the forges from which the Aragane gain their fame. While his skin is lightly seared, giving some color to his base creme hue, the teen appears to have be tanned by leisure within the sun more than the heat of fire or sweltering labor. His physique is unblemished by callous or scar- it appears as though the boy has either seen little combat, or has an exceptional knack for not getting hurt; his frame is slender but well toned, as he has spent a great deal of time maintaining a functional and attractive form- it would not be hard to presume that he was an individual with some vanity.
- Shun’s countenance holds sharp, though not not necessarily slender features, that mark him as an easily memorable individual. His eyes shift from a pumpkin to coquelicot hue depending on the quality of available light, though they retain a critical and piercing stare, as though he is judging or even looking down upon most things that he sees. Framing these features is a top of somewhat messy blonde hair that can often be found hanging freely in his face. From either side of this assortment of strands can his ears be found protruding- both of which bear a looped earring hanging from both lobes.
- When outfitted for shinobi combat, Shun seems to prefer loose and flowing clothing that provides comfort and obscurity to his finer movements. He is often seen wearing a sash of rich color draped diagonally from waist to shoulder, and accompanies them with otherwise basic colors- such as white or khaki. The boy very much has an affinity for jewelry, as he is known to wear rings, bracelets, armlets, and necklaces of varying metals to accent the other coloration of his attire. Despite the penchant for carefully selected color schemes, he seems to prefer silver and platinum pieces for civilian attire, and gold in shinobi garb.
- The casual/everday attire of this Aragane youth tend to vary rather wildly. When relaxing within the confines of his own abode, or within the presence of a few trusted companions, Shun prefers loose fitting, unadorned, attire; though his tastes are greatly muted when expecting no sort of outing, he does still enjoy wearing any assortment of precious metal regalia. As a representative of a prominent branch within the Aragane clan, Shun often is found wearing expensive formal or semi-formal clothing when out and about; he seems to prefer variations on the classic western suit-and-tie dress-scheme.

Trivia
- General Knowledge; IC
- Shun is heir to the Aragane Trade Empire located within the Country of Coal. Despite this, he is still only second in the line of succession to inherit the Aragane Clan’s control. First being his own father, who is brother to the current head: Aragane Katsuo.
- Though he has an exceptional mind for business and negotiation, Shun’s has little interest in actually inheriting his father’s businesses. When he does finally assume their mantle, he plans to use them simply as a source of financial stability while pursuing rare treasures around the world.
- Similarly, Shun has absolutely no desire to assume control of the Aragane Clan even when his father passes. He has expressed this to the clan any time it comes up, and clearly indicates that he will likely foist the clan onto some less important individual if or when the time comes.
- Shun is renown within his clan for his worldly appetites and does not suffer criticism of his chosen hobbies without severe retaliation.
- Shun is loyal to Iwagakure no Sato only as long as they do not actively interfere with his quest for legendary artifacts. He sees his relationship with the village as largely symbiotic, as their military might affords him a measure of protection through association, and his clan affiliation offers the village perhaps the cheapest prices on the Aragane’s world-renowned arms.
- Curiously, Shun possesses a strange Space/Time manipulation ability that allows him to store and draw items from an unknown space. This is not currently classified as proper Ninjutsu, nor does it seem to be a trait found within any other Aragane.

- Though he looks down on the financial status of the impoverished, Shun believes that poverty can bring out the greatest value and strength within a person. He is quicker to trust a desperate beggar than a legitimate businessman, though his trust his never given in full.
- If given a mental evaluation, Shun would be diagnosed with Psychopathy- more specifically, Sociopathy.
- The Meta; OOC
- Shun’s name was drawn from an early protagonist of a light novel: Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World).
- Shun’s personality is drawn heavily from characters such as Gilgamesh(Fate/series), Greed(Fullmetal Alchemist), and Chrollo Lucilfer(Hunter x Hunter).
- Many of Shun’s abilities are directly ports from Fate’s Gilgamesh character, specifically his Gate of Babylon- made on NA as “Armory of the Golden King”.
- Though the author had some concerns of the character being too heavily inspired by Gilgamesh, Shun’s trueness to his inspiration has made him a surprisingly beloved character.
