Hoshino Hayate is a ninja of Konohagakure no Sato that has returned to the village some time ago, resuming his normal life after aiding the Konoha Resistance in taking down the Kumogakure Empire. He aspires to be someone that garners the attention of everyone, whether through his character, skills, wealth or outrageousness.

Appearance

Height: 5'6"
Weight: 130 lbs.
Hair Color: Hayate's hair is, for the most part, untouched by the youth. It is a disheveled mess of snow white, messy and spiky all-around. While moderately short in nature, the unkempt course it takes tends to make it appear lengthy in certain areas around his head. His hitai-ate is the only means of keeping the disarray of hairs in some presentable manner when he does feel like donning it upon his forehead.
Eye Color: Hayate’s eyes are nothing particularly out of the ordinary, unless one would consider the subtle slant to them as slightly unusual. Otherwise, they are largely black in hue, with a minuscule half crescent moon spot of white in the upper right hand corner of his eyes. Typically, they are either listless and dull or blistering with excitement and wonder.
Civilian Attire: Hayate's civilian clothing is nothing particularly unusual. His average, everyday outfit is very simple. First of all, he has on a simple black cotton V-neck shirt with a half white, half black star etched upon the abdomen section. The shirt is relatively thin and without sleeves, so he doesn't burn to a crisp on those hot days. Next, is a pair of baggy pants with deep pockets, allowing him to carry numerous items of which he'll usually shoplift or pickpocket. The pants are white at the, mostly, top half of the white pants, while black at bottom half. Finally, and perhaps the most noticeable piece of his outfit, are his shoes. They are styled not unlike high top sneakers, though their colors differ. His left shoe is entirely white, though donning black shoe laces, while his right shoe is entirely black, adorned instead with white shoe laces..
Mission Attire: Hayate's mission garb is much more different and intricate. To begin with, he sports a white, zip-up shirt which has short sleeves that stops just at the base of his triceps. Beneath the shirt is a fitted black, long-sleeved shirt which reaches just two inches from his wrist. However, the remainder of his exposed arm is covered by white bandages. For lower body comfort, he wears a baggy-like pair of black shorts, with a single white stripe travelling vertically down both sides. At the base of the shorts’ legs, which stop just below his knees, the shorts possess a horizontal line that circles all around. Tied to both thighs of the young ninja are holsters for numerous ninja tools he possesses. Quite frequently, the elder teen also sports a long jacket, which drapes outwardly as it reaches all the way down to the back of his calves. The jacket is styled in such a way that it is one part black on the left side and one part white on the right side, split evenly down the middle starting from the center of the back and meets in the middle on the front, ceasing as they meet the seam line of the jacket’s zipper. On the back of this jacket is a five pointed star, which is split down the middle to have half of the star as a black color and the other half as white, inversed to the colors of his jacket. His footwork consist of sandals, not unlike most, but they are differently colored. They are mostly black, but the soles are colored white, as well as the opening upon which the toes stick out is also colored white. He wears his hitai-ate most often strapped around his waist almost like a belt, though it is slightly loose so that it doesn't cut off precious circulation, but not so loose that it dangles sloppily. The metallic plate bearing the Konoha symbol is attached to a band that is half black and white split horizontally down the middle, the top half being white, while the bottom half black. Lastly is a long black scarf which he must wrap around himself a few times, until he allows the loose end of the scarf to hang freely down to his left knee.
Physical Description: Hayate is still very much under the influence of puberty and is quite average in height for his age, his body type being described as moderately toned. His posture is something of a slight slouch with his hands in his pockets more often than not. When he's ready to fight or generally committing some exciting thrill of his, he stands upright the utmost arrogant confidence and a half-smirk upon his face blaring. Riddled throughout his body are small scars. most of which come from his constant training regimens, while the others from his family's disciplinary actions and fights.

History

Chapter I: Where Did It All Go Wrong [Prologue]

To start his story off, Hayate was born in a Konohagakure hospital with his father by his mother's side, weighing in at approximately eight pounds and seven ounces. His father, the breadwinner of his household was a Konoha Jounin, as was his mother, who spent most of her time at home taking care of Hayate and his siblings; a pair of fraternal twins, one a boy and one a girl.

This is where things usually go south, right? This is usually where the father starts to abuse his kids and the kid is supposed to be inspired to become a shinobi? Or maybe this is where both his parents die in a freak accident and Hayate is supposed to have a burning desire to protect his family? That's not exactly what happens in this story though.

Hayate's childhood, on the contrary, was rather enjoyable. He made a few friends, stayed healthy, played tag---all that good stuff. He lived a happy life, but he wasn't a prodigy. In fact he wasn't special at all. Perhaps he was a bit too normal even. Both his siblings were amazing shinobi, having both become Chuunin as early as twelve years old. Though they received shinobi training just as any other Konoha-nin did. In spite of that, they were exceptionally gift, far superior to their peers. They were made increasingly jealous by the twins’ successes, but they weren’t the only ones. Hayate was also a source of escalating envy and resentment. This was what instilled in Hayate a burning desire to stand out. He wanted the glory they continuously claimed time and again. He wanted the exciting thrills they got to experience with their privileged talents and resources. He wanted to be the one who everyone respected or feared or gave any sort of a damn about but that was never the case.

Unfortunately, he wasn't like his siblings. He was not a beast at fighting nor could he memorize and recall a myriad of facts and figures like the back of his hand after seeing it once. As Hayate grew older, his jealousy grew stronger and uglier at the mounting achievements of his siblings. Was it his fault that he couldn’t compete with his siblings’ talents? Did he not try enough? He asked himself many of these questions everyday, all the while keeping his disdain in check.

Before he knew it though, it was time for him to enroll in the Academy at the age of eight. Only a couple weeks earlier, both of his siblings achieved the age of fourteen and were on par with their father in terms of skill, tactic sense, strength and more. Hayate was far behind in the “competition”.

Around this time is where Hayate's change began. On the day he was to enter the Academy, Hayate decided to sneak out beforehand and dye the tips of his hair in white with some makeshift supplies he could find around the village. This was how he was going to stand out until he could prove to his father, his mother and his twin siblings that he was special. That he was there, that he was worth receiving their attention. This was his way of shining through the darkness that shrouded his existence.

Letting his anger flow from there, Hayate instantly became the "problem child” of the household. Beat almost regularly, the young rebel didn't reveal that he cared at all. All he wanted was to be special in someone’s eyes. Cast in the oppressive shadows of his siblings, he started doing whatever he could to gain attention, mostly through mischievous acts.

The fear of being considered normal was what kept Hayate going. It gave him his fuel. He began training just so that he could stand out from the other kids his age. Harder and harder he pushed himself, until his body gave up on him, day in and day out. It wasn't long until he found himself excelling in his courses, achieving scores in high percentiles of all the students around his age.

It was not enough for him, however. It was never going to be enough until he surpassed his brother and sister, but his development was much too slow in comparison. This was a big problem for him. At least, until it no longer was. He’d been awoken by mother's urging one random night. She, in the midst of uncontrollable sobs and tears, told him that both of his siblings were killed while they on a raid. Their bodies were never recovered.

This was a good thing though wasn't it? He'd never have to worry about being compared to his siblings anymore, right?

Wrong.

This was the worst thing that could've happened. They were heroes now. Immortalized forever. He couldn't beat them, could he? They had died for the village and were untouchable, forever affixed to a pedestal far out of his reach.

As a result, Hayate became even more neurotic than ever. Not from his siblings dying; this was normal, after all, they were shinobi weren't they? More damaging to Hayate was that now he was judged by everyone to the extreme, now an even grander scale between him and his heroic siblings. At least that’s what he chose to see, what he chose to feel. How could he compare to this? Hayate tried even harder.

Every assignment he tried his hardest, every training session he'd spar until he fell unconscious. He so desperately wanted to remove himself from the shadow that fell over him. At the same time, Hayate was beginning to tread down a less than savory path. Sneaking out in the middle of night to smoke cigarettes he’d stolen or pulling off pranks on the younger kids was the only thing that could console him. These insignificant “thrills” were what he lived for. He was warned countless times his deeds would 360 back in his face, but of course words wouldn't penetrate the spiteful resentment he held towards his own blood.

Chapter II: The Radical Change [The Invasion and Destruction of the NCIA]

Even the raid upon Konohagakure's very foundation left him unchanged. Frankly, it perhaps only fueled his fiery ego even more. With the invading NCIA came the destruction and defilement of his birthplace. Dismembered, mangled bodies stacked upon one another in a most grotesque fashion, homes reduced to ash and residue along with everyone inside. Truly, the sight would rend the innocence of any child into oblivion, but hey, ‘who cares’ Hayate thought. The only thing raging through him was adrenaline, oblivious to any of the aforementioned concerns, even when a great deal of these very people tried protecting him. The thoughts of finally surpassing his siblings clouded any manner of common sense found in him. Confrontation with a wandering NCIA Jounin was inevitable as he ventured through the devastated village, but that was precisely what he wanted. Charging in with the utmost wildness and unrefined movements, the adolescent went hand-to-hand with the Jounin, pushing back the bulky figure of a supposedly cowardice male. What wimps, Hayate thought to himself as his ego expanded with each and every assault he executed. A punch here, a kick there, a kunai swipe over yonder, and a few shuriken toss down under---his skills weren’t undeniable! Embedded deep within him, latent potential was finally showing itself as he continued to bombard the NCIA shinobi with everything he had. No longer able to muster enough strength to continue, he looked down on the hapless Jounin with a twisted grin upon his visage. His first kill, and it was done with such ease. With a racing heart and body as light---and exhausted---as the air itself, his vehemence was gunned down as the deceased Jounin exploded in a cloud of smoke. A Kage Bunshin… Appearing to materialize out of nowhere in front of Hayate, the Jounin let out a hefty laugh at the young boy's vain endeavors with a rising fist.

"Gotcha!”

The last word the boy would hear before he awoke in a hospital a few days later. Everlasting scars and a myriad of broken bones was what awaited Hayate, being only half the ‘fun'. His parents were informed of his awakening and immediately went to see their son. A two-fold smothering was an understatement as they almost squeezed out what little life he had left in him. It came as a great surprise when he was stricken with a thunderous slap across the face, however. His mother, face twisted by relief, anger, and grief, retracted her hand and stared deep into the abyss of apathy found in her son's expression.

"How could you be so reckless?! Instead of finding somewhere safe to hide, you confront a Jounin of all people expecting to beat him! All this thrill seeking could've gotten you killed…! If I lost another of my babies, I don't know what I-I…” She cried, collapsing onto the bed in a hysteria of sobs, unable to muster up anything else to voice. His father kneeled down to soothe her trembling being while staring into Hayate's eyes with a piercing gaze. His father had never been a man of many words, but the adolescent could hear him loud and clear, as something of a recap of his mother's words ravaged his brain for hours.

Friends, family, the village. He'd been wrong for far too long. Ever since he was younger, everyone was always looking out for him. How couldn't he notice something that seemed so obvious to everyone else… And now, most of them were gone. No matter how much he wanted to say he was stupid, that he was sorry, that he wished for forgiveness, it couldn’t say it to everyone. These heavy sentiments of sorrow and remorse…? Screw this, Hayate decided with tears pouring down his battered face in heaps. To experience pain of this caliber is just inhumane… He wouldn't let anyone, including himself, ever feel such a way…

With something of a new resolve fueling his will to live, Hayate joined the resistance faction Konoha would soon establish. With every mission, he rallied every bit of strength in him to keep his peers and himself safe and out of harm’s way, whether during simpler duties like infiltration to greater tasks such as fending off potential threats to the resistance's base itself. Although his efforts had virtually no impact as a whole, he couldn’t care less. Or so it seemed, following the resistance’s attempt at freeing Konohagakure. Upon hearing the news of a small group’s efforts in liberating his home village, the amber-eyed Genin couldn't help but feel the slightest bit disappointed in himself for being unable to assist. Of course, feeling sorry for himself wouldn't make him stronger---he would simply have to continue.

With the eventual fall of the Kumogakure Empire behind them, the world was once again back into the swing of things. It was unfortunate that Hayate couldn’t have accomplished something grander in the liberation of the countries from the NCIA and Kumo’s tyrannical grip, but he knew his story wasn’t over. It was simply a new chapter for him to start fresh, anew. To keep on going until he could accomplish something just as great as those resistance members, just as well as his deceased siblings, and in his own right, become a legend as he always wanted so that everyone’s eyes would look his way.

Private Knowledge; OOC
  • Hayate has done drugs out of his need to sate his thrill-seeking urges. Not the biggest fan, but it tends to get the job done for him.
Outside the Box; OOC
  • Hayate was, largely, based off Jio Freed, the protagonist of 666 Satan (or O-Parts Hunter), which is the series created by the twin brother of Masashi Kishimoto, Seishi Kishimoto. Similar to Jio Freed's 'initial' love of money over people due to the latter betraying him, Hayate has a fondness for wealth because it allows him to obtain the things he needs to feed his thrill-seeking tendencies, which manifested as a void in his life due to the lack of attention he received from those around him. That and so he can buy bitches stuff; bitches love stuff. His appearance and clothing was similarly based off Jio Freed's black and white motif.
  • Hayate's combat style started off using a shuriken-styled boomerang in conjunction with Wind Ninjutsu. From there, it expanded into a full weapons specialist, utilizing the many ninja tools customary of shinobi, among other weaponry. In particular, numerous swords are a use for Hayate, the style of which is derived from Soul Eater's Mifune and his use of the Mugen Ittoryu (Infinite One-Sword Style), befitting the mass weapon theme.
  • Hayate would be a blacksmith and/or an ordinary mercenary for hire if he never became a shinobi.
