The Kumogakure Invasion was the opening blitzkrieg attack that started the Kumogakure Empire. The attack itself took place over multiple days in the Spring of 2107 and resulted in many months of struggle that ultimately ended in the control of the continent by Rai no Kuni.

Kumogakure Force Movement

A large portion of the success of the invasion was due to a new space time jutsu named Nifuu Oribasho no Jutsu (Two Point Seal Fold Technique). Kumogakure ninja were moved through this technique, and it was this that allowed them to move great numbers of troops far distances. It was the creation of these seals through fast moving scout parties and small raiding teams that allowed the army to move across countries quickly and send troops where they were needed. This fast movement and brilliantly planned and executed plan allowed the single nation to conquer multiple hidden villages of similar size in days.

The forces were moved in five major parties that broke into numerous smaller platoons and lead by individual division leaders. The five major divisions of the invasion were the Sound Division, the Central Division, the Fire Division, the Water Division and the much smaller Northern Division. Each of these divisions left from Rai no Kuni in separate movements and aided each other in a complicated series of movements and splits.

Sound Division

The Sound Division moved from Kumogakure no Sato to Otogakure no Sato. From there they split their forces 60%/30%/10%. 60% would move to Iwagakure no Sato, 30% would stay in Otogakure no Sato and 10% would move to Konohagakure no Sato to join the Fire Division. From Iwagakure no Sato, they would split again, this time 80%/20%, with 20% joining with forces from the Central Division and moving on to Yukigakure no Sato.

Central Division

The Central Division moved from Kumogakure no Sato to Kusagakure no Sato. From there they set up a strong centralized force that would later be relocated to Nigiyakashufu. Upon securing Kusagakure no Sato, they split their forces 60%/30%/10%. 60% stayed in Kusagakure to support other forces from the centralized location. 30% moved to join the Sound Division as they assaulted Iwagakure no Sato. The final 10% moved on Amegakure no Sato. This division's primary goal was to bolster the empire's foothold in the western nations and support those fronts from their location.

Fire Division

The Fire Division moved from Kumogakure no Sato to Konohagakure no Sato. Upon capturing the village with a small aid from the Sound Division, they would split their forces 80%/20%. 80% would move to Sunagakure no Sato to secure the hidden village in the desert. The remaining 20% stayed in Konohagakure no Sato to maintain control of the village until a large force from the Water Division was able to meet up and support the hold of the nation. This was considered by many of Kumogakure's top generals at the time to be the weakest link of the plan, and it required a small bit of luck for the village to not fall back to Konoha forces before other divisions could send reinforcements. If other operations around Konoha had gone slightly different the village may have been able to retake their country before the invasion was over. Unfortunately for Hi no Kuni, luck was not with the resistance that day. Once the main force of the Fire Division had secured Sunagakure no Sato, they would split 70%/30%. 70% remained in the village while 30% moved on Amegakure no Sato and then would join the Central Division to support the surrounding regions as needed.

Water Division

The Water Division launched a naval fleet from the south eastern coasts of Rai no Kuni, traveling by boat until they made a siege and eventual ground war against Mizu no Kuni. The operational goal of the division was to land on ground as quickly as possible to minimize advantages that the Kirigakure no Sato ninja would have in open waters. Due to new technology developed for their naval fleet and the help of Nifuu Oribasho no Jutsu, the fleet was able to get close enough to the island where it could put a small team on the ground and begin transporting ninja and supplies to the island. Once on the ground, the Kumogakure ninja were able to take Avalon, using its ports and harbor to secure their supply chain and move against Kirigakure no Sato. the village fell, and once the Water Division establish control of the waters around the country they split their forces 55%/45%. 55% moved to Hi no Kuni to join the Fire Division and centralize power, while 45% stayed in Kirigakure no Sato. A large force was needed to keep Mizu no Kuni under control due to the large expanse of ocean in which the Kirigakure ninja would have an advantage.

Northern Division

The Northern Division was much smaller than the other divisions, and launched a fleet the fraction of the size of that from the Water Division. They left Kumogakure no Sato and sailed to Hyouden. Their goal was to take control of the nation's capital, establish a supply route in the north, and then move against Yukigakure no Sato. They kept only a small fraction of their forces in Hyouden, with over 90% of their force moving on Yukigakure and eventually aided by the Sound Division as it moved north through Tsuchi no Kuni.
