A small section of the port of Surkh.

Surkh is a substantial port town on the northern edge of the Denchi no Kuni, right on the coast of the Northern Sea. The town itself is one of the major trading routes along the sea, and also predates the ninja age. The entire settlement is surrounded by an ancient thirty foot tall wall, much of which is farmland. The city itself is the largest and most well known in the region, with farmland stretching for miles around, mostly towards the south. The city government is a monarchy of Daimyo's, the family line which also dates back to before the start of the ninja age. Sentry towers are posted around the wall and each of the five city gates are watched twenty four hours a day by a mixture of ninja and city guards in their traditional red and white leather armor uniforms.

Recently, economic trouble has caused much of the city to lose its value and crime rates to rise. The Black Turtles, a former gang of highway bandits has moved into the city and become a gang that protects the village while also feeding upon it for its own benefit.

Surkh is a run by the Richū, a Daimyo Monarchy that dates back to before the start of the ninja age. The Richū have been the ruling supervisors of Surkh and the surrounding lands for nearly 700 years. The current Daimyo, Richu Jimmu, is nearing his death bed as he ages beyond 75. Because of a brutal set of assassinations, the royal sons of Daimyo Jimmu were both killed in the prime of their manhood. Following these tragedies, Jimmu wed again and gave birth the a single daughter by the name of Suizei. Suizei, currently sixteen, is the next in line for the role of Daimyo of Surkh and its surrounding territories.
