Tasogare no Kuni, Geological Map

Tasogare no Kuni, or the Country of Twilight, refers to a land mass far north of Rai no Kuni that remains primarily uncharted. The uppermost border has yet to be confirmed, as the terrain is frigid and rocky, supporting little more then high winds and the biting cold. Because it does not share a boarder with one of the The Five Great Shinobi Nations, very few have ventured the distance to this country, leaving much of this unexplored land shrouded in mystery. It's proximity to the Northern Pole of the world means that during certain times of the year the country is bathed in either continuous sunlight or continuous darkness, however, the Country is more often associated for the perpetual state of twilight that may lasts for weeks or months at a time.

The Country of Twilight

Terrain

The Country of Twilight.

Despite the known-country being relatively small in size, recorded geography of the Country of Twilight shows a surprising variety of landscapes, from the monstrous mountains the form its southern border to the wide, flat ice fields that stretch towards the north. The center of the country stretching out towards the western edge is compose primarily of bedrock or gravely soil that remains frozen for most of the year. Because of this, only low growing plants such as lichen or moss are able to grow.

Along the coast of the Northern Sea, especially as you travel south, the readily available fresh water source, as well as slightly more moderate temperatures do allow for for bushes, and even some trees to grow. This helps supports wildlife, such as caribou and musk ox, which in turn support predatory animals like foxes, bears, and wolves.

Climate

The Country of Twilight experiences long, very cold winters and short, cool summers. Only in the heart of the warmer months, the period in time when the sun never sets below the horizon, does the temperature rise above freezing. Even then, its rarely above 5 degrees Celsius [41 degrees Fahrenheit]. On top of the long months of cold, Tasogare no Kuni also experiences high wind, making frostbite or hypothermia a serious health concern to those not prepared for the frigid temperatures.

Unlike Yuki no Kuni, much of the Country of Twilight is actually classified as a "cold desert", with very little precipitation annually. Only the southern boarders of the land receive any sizable snow or rainfall, which helps to support some biodiversity. During the dark winter months, or the periods of dimmer twilight, curtains of light can be see dancing across the sky in a variety of colors. While such auroras are not exclusive to the country, when standing on the vast frozen fields of the land, it transforms The Country of Twilight into an ethereal landscape.

Civilization

The Night Sky

Despite the seeming inhospitably of the land, their are records of human settlement in this country. Information on these communities are scarce however, mostly gleaned from migrants who decided to leave the rather desolate land behind. The Fell Clan of Kumogakure no Sato is one such example, though they left their native homeland almost a century past. According to their records, at the time of their migration there were other human inhabitants in this country, including other families with chakra-gifts of their own. How many, and to what extent their skills have developed, are currently unknown.
