A Daimyo (大名, Daimyō; Literally meaning "Great Name") is the leader of a country or territory within a country. They often hold much power and will work with ninja villages or request shinobi services over time. A Daimyo themselves will usually have no ninja of their own aside a handful of body guards, and sometimes even those are ninja from a hidden village on hire.
Depending on the country, a Daimyo could be the leader, a mayor or a figure title that holds little power at all.
Village Systems
Tsuchi no Kuni
- In Tsuchi no Kuni there are many Daimyo who vary between territories within the massive country. Some are respected members of society that hold no political power and some are the rulers of their own territory. Mizu no Kuni

Denchi no Kuni
- In Denchi no Kuni the Daimyo is a figurehead with much pull in the government body, but does not hold an official title. Over the last 100 years the leader of the country was shifted from the Daimyo to the Kyoukage as the importance of shinobi increased.
Hi no Kuni
- In Hi no Kuni the Daimyo unites the lords of the country under their banner. They contract and fund Konohagakure no Sato for protection and grant them freedom to treat with other hidden villages. Depending on the regime, they may grant the Hokage power to make executive decisions for trade and security.
