  1. Done. I've also edited the Special section of the jutsu from "All Suzumi clan members automatically learn this jutsu when they gain the Advanced Symbiosis skill, and lose it when they do not possess it." to "All Suzumi clan members must take this jutsu upon creation, but may only use it when they possess the Advanced Symbiosis skill." Hope that works.

    Symbiosis

Alright. Taiki's first comment is quoting something which is meant to be taken in together with the following two paragraphs, so I'll take it with his second comment as well. These aren't "free skills". Simply because you pay no SP, doesn't make something free. The base bloodline skill is essentially a hindering skill that gives no SP. Symbiotic Bond mitigates it, and to mitigate more than 100m, you have to pay SP. Simple. It's not "free". You're actually taking a hindering skill and essentially getting nothing for it, if you discount the fact that you can learn the other bloodline skills as well. In fact, the bearer still isn't getting anything for it, the partner does. Garth hit the nail on the head as well. 100 meters is not a very large distance. And if you aren't currently in combat, get separated, and then enter combat before the partner returns, the bearer starts at 25% health. That's always fun. This is the one that I have issues with, as the other two don't really matter; if I have to, I can just change things and make it all complicated and whatnot to get the costs I want. Look, it's not "balancing" to make the bloodline useless. I already explained this. This isn't overpowered in the least, the bearer gets nothing out of the deal. And there is a difference between being "inseparable", as in, you never leave each other's sides because you don't want to for whatever reason, and being inseparable, as in, one of you dies if you're separated for too long. Just thought I'd point that out. And just because the other person doesn't have the bloodline, doesn't mean it makes no sense for that person to not have a symbiotic bond. Humans already have tons of bacteria that work together with our bodies to help us digest food, or help kill germs in your mouth, for example. We could live without those nifty little guys killing all that nasty stuff that's rotting your teeth, but we'd have a lot fewer teeth. Especially before we invented toothpaste, ugh. Point is, just because you don't need a symbiotic relationship with something, doesn't mean you can't have it. And it's not the partner that forms the bond, it's the bearer of the bloodline, via a jutsu. Hence why I made the jutsu, this bond doesn't just randomly appear, it actually requires chakra, and implants a small portion of the disease into the partner. This portion changes to send small portions of the partner's life force to the bearer of the bloodline, and in return, can also instantly recover injuries in the like in the partner's body, at the cost of the bearer taking the wound instead. And no, the partner doesn't suffer the effects, because the amount of the disease they have is small by comparison, just enough to do its job. It also uses a lot less life force in general, as it does a lot less than the main portion in the bloodline bearer's body. Then ask about what you want to ask, and I'll answer what I can. Not trying to hide anything or some such nonsense, glad to answer questions and comments.

    Symbiosis

Rank 1 was intentionally left at -0. Reasoning? Well, it's simple, really. Symbiotic Bond is really the effect of Active Symbiosis. It simply lessens the effect of a hindering skill. That's why rank 1 costs nothing; it's simply the base distance of Active Symbiosis. It then costs SP to increase the distance and whatnot. That's also why Latent/Advanced/Active Symbiosis give nothing. Latent does nothing on its own, so that would just be a free skill point, something that I doubt will go over well. Advanced is pretty deadly, and could give SP. But instead, I feel that granting access to the bloodline is more than benefit enough, so it gives no SP. And Active for the same reason. It would effectively give +1 SP, as its hindering, but has a way around it. And Rank 1 of Symbiotic Bond would probably cost -1, but since you would automatically take the skill when you gain Active Symbiosis, and you would gain 1 SP from Active Symbiosis, I just canceled all of the bonus SP out from Symbiosis and made Rank 1 free. I can simply change things to be as I just said if the mods want me to stay consistent to the rules, I don't really mind. I was just trying to make things a bit simpler. Addressing the forming bonds outside of the bloodline bit... I don't see any reason to put that sort of limitation on this. In fact, doing so would make the bloodline fairly useless. The only way bloodline bearers can really be useful with the bloodline is if they have either have high health or high defensive stats. If you force the bonds to be within the bloodline, that means that you force someone to pick up useless skills (the bond skills, which do nothing but help mitigate the effects of Active Symbiosis), or both characters are pretty much focused purely on defense, which isn't useful. Sure, you'd be near impossible to kill. But you couldn't kill anything, so fights would just take a long time, and the outcome would be pretty much set in stone. Anyways, that's my reasoning for everything you mentioned. Feel free to comment or what have you. EDIT: Added an additional restriction, simply making it clear that characters with Latent Symbiosis pay no upkeep.
  4. It doesn't actually do anything though. It's just a marker. I could just as easily change Active Symbiosis to denote a target, and have all of the bloodline skills only work for that target. Though I could do that, I'd rather do this for simplicity; no need to make things unneccessarily complicated, I have enough clauses and whatnot in the bloodline already.

That would be the purpose, yes. It's not really the ultimate tag though, the opponent(s) can always kill the one with the bloodline instead of the other, but it diverts attention, which is the point. And like I said, don't know anything about Spiderman, never really got into that sort of thing.
  6. True enough. I'll just put it at 20 chakra for now, if it needs to be higher, just say so. Also, should I put a rank on it? I didn't think it needed it, but it doesn't really matter either way.

    Symbiosis

Um, say what now? This doesn't have anything to do with Spiderman. I don't claim to know anything about the series, as I don't read it, but if I recall, doesn't he gain his powers when a spider bites him? The spider doesn't really seem to benefit out of the deal except perhaps on an immediate basis. Symbiotic relationships require both partners to benefit in some way over the long-term, last I checked. Or at least, that's the foundation I'm using for this bloodline; I didn't pull it from anything. And if I'm going to rip something from a series, especially something popular like that, I'll give credit where credit is due.
  8. The main body refers to the main body of the disease itself, which would be the original host, or the person with the bloodline itself. I'll reword it to make it make more sense.

    Symbiosis

That's one way to do it. The symbiote could also have high defense or resistance, and simply take as much of that kind of damage as possible, and allow the other person to have a high defense of the other type. There are a few options. And yes, the main purpose is defense of the partner. I might make other skills and jutsus that rely on certain ranks that do other things, but the bloodline itself is purely focused around defending the partner. Those skills have no cost because they are granted automatically. They essentially just mark that this character has the bloodline (Latent), is being affected by the downsides of the bloodline, but can now form bonds (Advanced), and the character has met the requirements to actually use the bloodline (Active). They aren't hindering traits persay, because they grant a benefit, that of being able to learn the bloodline. But they aren't positive, as they don't actually grant any direct benefits in and of themselves. The actual benefits (the bloodline ranks) actually cost SP. Free skills are looked down upon because you're gaining something for nothing. In this case, you're gaining a hindering trait, but instead of SP, you get the ability to actually learn the bloodline. I think it's a fair tradeoff. Of course, a mod might say otherwise, we'll see.

Woo, let's take my old sheet and edit it accordingly with comments in parentheses next to the original! 'cause I'm lazy like that.
  12. Clan Starter: Unknown Clan Head: Currently none Clan Age and Status: Young, Unknown Clan Bloodline: Symbiosis Clan Element: None Clan Emblem: The Suzumi clan possesses no emblem at this time; the original was lost when Kumo attacked Suna. Clan Info: The Suzumi clan is a relatively new clan, as far as clans go. The bloodline, considered a disease at that time, first appeared in the clan some ten generations back. Until then, the Suzumi clan had been a small clan with no real points of note, but this disease began to kill them off one by one. The clan grew even smaller, until the clan numbered a mere fifty members, only half of which were ninja. The disease wasn't contagious, but it appeared in every child born to the clan, all of whom died by the age of twenty. It wasn't long before something had to be done. Finally, a man by the name of Suzumi Rokou discovered a way to take advantage of the disease's odd qualities. The disease slowly ate away at the life force of those infected once it reached the final stage. It only took about four years once it hit this point to kill off the victim. However, by using a special jutsu, the victim could link their life force with another willing person, allowing them to use a small portion of their partner's life force to sustain themselves, preventing the disease from eating away at them any further. As the years passed, the clan quickly learned to take advantage of their bloodline. As it turned out, linking their life force to another allowed their bloodline to advance from dormancy. Using the abilities granted from their bloodline, the clan members were capable of assisting their partners in combat, helping to protect them from danger and make them more powerful. However, just as the clan was finally recovering from their heavy losses at the appearance of their bloodline, Suna was attacked by Kumogakure. Nearly all of the Suzumi clan died in the battle, their partners slaughtered, and the few that remained were not only too young to fight, but had been scattered in an attempt to ensure that their clan would not die out altogether. The plan was a success, but alone and without instruction, the majority of the remaining members died anyways. Only a few remain, now, and large portions of the knowledge of the Suzumi clan's bloodline have been lost. Only the basics remain to these children; they must discover the rest on their own. Symbiosis

Symbiosis Description: Symbiosis is the bloodline of the Suzumi clan. It takes the form of a hereditary disease that lies dormant in the host. As the host ages, the disease spreads throughout their body, consuming small portions of their life force, much less than the host is capable of regenerating simply through drawing breath. However, as they grow older, the disease continues to spread in its dormant state, consuming more and more life force to sustain itself until, finally, the disease consumes more than the host can maintain without their health worsening. This is considered the “final stage” of the dormancy of the disease, as the bearer must either bond with a willing partner or die from the disease, and generally occurs around the age of sixteen, never older, but occasionally younger due to various circumstances. After about a week of being in this state, the bearer is severely weakened, only able to summon up small amounts of their original strength. After about a month, the bearer will become comatose, and after around two months, they will die. However, once a bond is formed, the disease progresses out of dormancy, becoming more active and evolving to a more useful state, allowing the bearer to aid their partner in return for their link. This symbiotic relationship is the reason the bloodline was simply dubbed “Symbiosis”. Restrictions: -All Suzumi clan members must take this bloodline. -Characters must start at the age of sixteen to begin play with Active Symbiosis, unless permission is granted by the creator. -Must be taken at creation. -Each rank of Symbiosis replaces its previous rank. -Symbiosis is always active, and may never be lost. -Characters with Latent Symbiosis do not pay the upkeep cost. -Symbiosis may only be stolen via blood transfusion. The amount of blood taken from the “donor” determines the starting effect that Symbiosis has in the new bearer. If 100% of the donor’s blood is taken, the bearer is considered to be whatever that character’s age was for the purposes of determining how far along Symbiosis has advanced. If less than that is taken, the bearer’s age is equal to the percent of the blood taken from the donor. Upkeep Costs: Gennin: 15% max health, cannot drop below 25% Chuunin: 12% max health, cannot drop below 40% Jounin: 10% max health, cannot drop below 50% Symbiosis is always active. However, health upkeep costs are only paid if the partner is not present in the battle and is farther than the range of the Symbiotic Bond, or has been killed/severely wounded (AKA removed from combat due to HP, Chakra, or Stamina reaching 0) in the battle. In addition, the health costs do not kick in until the time granted by Symbiotic Bond is over. These costs are considered already paid to the maximum allowed if the bearer enters combat with Advanced Symbiosis, or if they have been separated from their partner at a greater distance than allowed by their Symbiotic Bond. - Latent Symbiosis – Description: The Symbiosis bloodline lies dormant, slowly growing and spreading throughout the bearer’s body. However, the amount of life force it consumes is less than the amount that the bearer can safely handle. The disease has not progressed far enough at this point for the bearer to form a Symbiotic Bond. Requirement: Clan Membership, younger than sixteen years of age Effects: This skill is replaced by Advanced Symbiosis when the bearer turns 16. Special: If the bearer’s health, chakra, or stamina ever drop to zero, and the bearer lives, the disease progresses at a more rapid rate, reducing the age required by 2 for every situation that this occurs in. Once the age reaches the age of the character, remove this skill and take Advanced Symbiosis. Cost: 0 SP - Advanced Symbiosis – Description: The Symbiosis bloodline has reached the stage where it is a threat to the bearer’s life, consuming more life force than they can safely handle. At this stage, the disease has progressed enough that the bearer is capable of forming a Symbiotic Bond, which allows the disease to advance to its active state. Requirement: Clan Membership, character is sixteen years of age or met the special conditions of Latent Symbiosis Effects: After one week of game time, the bearer’s stats are reduced by 75%. After one month of game time, the bearer becomes comatose, unable to leave the hospital. After two months of game time, the character dies. This character does not regain health, chakra, or stamina during or after combat. They may be healed, but all jutsus that regain health, chakra, or stamina have half effect. When a Symbiotic Bond is formed, replace this skill with Active Symbiosis. Cost: 0 SP - Active Symbiosis – Description: The Symbiosis bloodline has become active due to a Symbiotic Bond formed between the bearer and his/her partner. By using small amounts of both life forces, the disease is able to sustain itself without bringing harm on either. As time passes, the disease evolves, allowing the bearer to aid their partner both in and out of battle. Requirement: Clan Membership, Bind Together performed on a willing partner Effects: Symbiosis bloodline abilities may now be learned. If the partner ever dies, revert to Advanced Symbiosis. All abilities that rely on this skill are locked away until a new partner is found. The bearer is granted three months to find a new partner before the effects of Advanced Symbiosis begin. - Symbiotic Bond - Description: The Symbiotic Bond is the only thing sustaining the life of a Symbiosis bearer. Should this bond ever break, or should the bearer and his/her partner be separated for too long, the bearer will die. As the disease evolves, the bond is strengthened, allowing longer periods of time to pass and greater distances of separation to occur before the degenerative effects of Symbiosis kick in. Rank 1: Up to 100m of separation allowed. -0 Rank 2: Up to 400m of separation allowed, one round of combat may pass after partner is incapacitated -1 Rank 3: Up to 1600m of separation allowed, one round of combat may pass after partner is incapacitated -1 Rank 4: Up to 6400m of separation allowed, two rounds of combat may pass after partner is incapacitated -1, Chuunin rank required Rank 5: Up to 25600m of separation allowed, two rounds of combat may pass after partner is incapacitated -1 Rank 6: No limit to distance, three rounds of combat may pass after partner is incapacitated -1, Jounin rank required - Symbiotic Protection – Description: The first benefit that the partner really sees out of the symbiotic pairing. Whenever the partner is injured in combat, portions of the damage may immediately be transferred through the bond to the Symbiosis bearer, affecting the bearer as though they were the one hit with that portion of the attack. The amount of damage that can be transferred depend on how far the disease has progressed. Rank 1: Up to 20% of damage received by the partner is instead dealt to the bearer. -1, Rank 2 Symbiotic Bond required Rank 2: Up to 40% of damage received by the partner is instead dealt to the bearer. -1 Rank 3 Symbiotic Bond required Rank 3: Up to 60% of damage received by the partner is instead dealt to the bearer. -2, Chuunin rank required, Rank 4 Symbiotic Bond required Rank 4: Up to 80% of damage received by the partner is instead dealt to the bearer. -2, Rank 5 Symbiotic Bond required Rank 5: Up to 100% of damage received by the partner is instead dealt to the bearer. -3, Jounin rank required, Rank 6 Symbiotic Bond required. Special: The damage that the attack would deal before defensive modifiers is added up, then divided between the partner and the bearer depending on how much is being taken by the bearer. Then, they add up their defensive modifiers and divide them based on the amount of damage being taken. For example, if the partner would take 100 damage before defense, and would prevent 20, and the bearer chooses to take half, then they take 50, then prevent 10 via defense, for a total of 40. This only applies to damage, status effects still hit the partner normally. Restrictions: This skill may only be used if both the bearer and the partner are present and able to fight in combat, and is activated before the response phase of the bearer or the partner, dependant upon whoever takes their turn next. This is to prevent confusion in the case that one of the two receives multiple turns over the other. - Symbiotic Guard – Description: The evolution of Symbiotic Protection. The Symbiosis disease has evolved to the point that the bearer may take the various additional effects from attacks as though they had hit the bearer instead of the partner. To do this requires an investment in chakra from the bearer, but the benefits often outweigh the cost. Rank 1: Every time a status effect is applied to the partner, the bearer may pay 2% of their max chakra. This grants a 50% chance that the status effect is applied to the bearer. This may only be used once per status effect. -3, Rank 2 Symbiotic Protection required Rank 2: Every time a status effect is applied to the partner, the bearer may pay 2% of their max chakra. The status effect is applied to the bearer instead. -3, Chuunin Rank required, Rank 4 Symbiotic Protection required Special: If a status effect is transferred to the bearer that the bearer already possesses, the amount of turns that the effects last are simply added together. This may bypass the maximum turns allowed for an effect. Any status effects that the bearer takes via this ability are considered to have applied to the partner instead of the bearer for the purposes of maximum allowed applications of an effect. Restrictions: This skill may only be used if both the bearer and the partner are present and able to fight in combat, and is activated before the response phase of the bearer or the partner, dependant upon whoever takes their turn next. This is to prevent confusion in the case that one of the two receives multiple turns over the other.
