The Umikoi Clan | 海愛一族 | Umikoi Ichizoku

Homeland: Mizu no Kuni;

Location of Clan Estates: Outskirts of Kirigakure no Sato

Clan Hidden Village Eligibilities: Kirigakure no Sato. [Meaning anybody who asks me to start an Umikoi character in a different village will get a flat out 'denied'.

Clan Head: Umikoi Wairudo [Wairu] 海愛 野生

Clan Head's titles: Member of the Kirigakure no Sato Council, & the Ceremonial name given at birth, 'Child of the Rushing Tide'.

Origins of Custom: Umikoi Warrusu za Ichi, The Crew of the Azure Typhoon, & Warrusu za Ichi's foster father Namiko Taka.

Blood beginnings: Umikoi Warrusu za Ichi & Namiko Ayoku

Clan Age: The Umikoi clan is approximately 115 years old. It was not common knowledge to many that the Umikoi were a shinobi clan until a few years ago, however.

Clan Status within Kirigakure & Mizu no Kuni: Fairly respected, saw as 'up-and-coming' & 'skilled'. There are many shadowy ties which have been carved in the background by previous Umikoi clan heads with organizations for trade and other things, and amongst those it is universally respected.

As a shinobi clan, it was obscure until a few years ago. A keen observer would have heard of the tale of 'Umikoi Warrusu za Ichi' or 'The Umikoi', at some point, and a keener observer would have noticed that there were shinobi-nin in the service of Kirigakure no Sato from that clan, but up until the events of the NCIA war, they were not commonly known as a shinobi clan.

Clan Element: Water

Clan Emblem:

Clan Bloodline: Mizushin (水中心)

(Take note only the circle and it's insides are the symbol, it's against orange like that to make it contrast and be easily seen.)

Umikoi Customs, Facts & Physical Features

Clan Customs & Politics

Clan Size: The Umikoi clan is about 20 families in size, with each family having anywhere from no kids to seven or eight. The clan does as most in the country do, and builds up, so accommodations aren't normally much of a problem. However, as a throw back to traditions of old, the Umikoi still call -all of their cousins-, no matter the distance of connection, cousin, or aunt or Uncle (depending on the age and gender of the person, often times if a person is of 'mentor' age and not a sibling or parent, they will be called aunt or uncle as opposed to cousin or just their name.)

Training & Youth: The clan typically trains all the children within the clan in a sort of faux unity, all the children are given training in shinobi arts [or a trade if they want], but it's typically not in a classroom setting, or at a certain age, it depends entirely upon who the child's mentor is, and mentors could be anyone, directly related or not, to the person.

Most children are taught the basics of things by young adults [and more often than not their elder siblings], but plenty are taught by their parents as well. Generally, children are given as much leisure time as they want, as the clan doesn't demand anyone no matter their talent, become a ninja. It is always a personal choice.

Clan Head, Clean Leadership & Customs in regards to the clan: The Head of the Clan is typically appointed by the former head upon their retirement or death [written in a will or conveyed to the council before the death in the latter case.]

In most cases, however, the possible replacement heads can be seen well before it is time for them to take their possible place, as the clan head has free reign to take an apprentice at any time, and may take more than one. These apprentices are important to the clan as while typically one will eventually become the clan head, the others stand a high chance of becoming apart of the 'clan's council', in the future.

While the clan head can act autocratically, he typically takes advice from any family member willing to give it, and confides with the five eldest members of the clan especially. These five eldest members of the clan [sometimes the whole clan council], typically decides whom will become the next clan head, if the previous clan head did not communicate the next heir.

(Such happened in the Kumogakure no Sato invasion and it's aftermath, when Umikoi Warrusu za Yon and za Roku both died, eliminating Warrusu za Yon's chain of command as he had Roku as succeeding him within the clan as the clan's head. The five eldest members of the clan then choosing Warrusu za Yon's eldest grandson, Umikoi Wairudo za Yon.)

Clan Cuisine: Umikoi love all kinds food, but with their ties to the sea, and the amount of fish they bring in from fishing, a lot of Umikoi cuisine ties around fish, either grilled, boiled, or made into 'cakes'.

Another favorite is Pickled or Grilled Shark, a recipe which requires a freshly caught shark to work properly.

Colors: The Umikoi clan's official color is 'Midnight Blue' ((This Color)), and blues of all tints are often worn by the clan, they are simply put favorites.

Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, or Genjutsu?: The Umikoi are famous for their ninjutsu, but there are genjutsu specialists, weapon specialists, taijutsu specialists within the clan as well.

Opinions on 'breeding outside the blood': Perfectly acceptable. The clan often takes in children who are orphans which they happen to pass upon, and the clan also knows well that Warrusu za Ichi bred with a non-Umikoi to begin the clan.

There is no natural or artificial shift between the clan in regards to family or breeding, and plenty of Umikoi don't have the clan's blood within them at all.

Interactions with the other Clans within Kirigakure no Sato: The Umikoi are generally friendly towards the other clans, but wary as well. This may be the reason for their estates being outside of Kirigakure no Sato proper.

Typically, they have rivalries with Hoshigaki over the sea, and in the last five years [with the arrival of the Umikoi as an openly shinobi clan within the village], this has been shown more, as both naturally are skilled in missions involving assassination from the water, as they can wait ridiculous amount of times for a target to come.

With the Kaguya, there are fair relations and sometimes actions of good will. [The Umikoi donated some lumber to the Kaguya clan to help rebuild their estates.]

With the Hisame, there is a bit more 'cool' relations, as many Hisame have disappeared, and as much as the Umikoi clan's heads would like to help the Hisame, they doubt that the Hisame would accept it. A matter of honor after all.

Physical Features

Eyes: The majority of the Umikoi clan [well the ones who are actually born into it], have blue eyes, and more so than simple blue eyes, blue eyes with a lighter tint of blue in the main portion of the iris, and a darker tint of blue forming an 'outer ring' on the edge of the iris. The range of blues varies heavily, though. Even those who do not have pure blue eyes tend to have some shade in it, or do when the bloodline is active.

Hair: The Umikoi clan typically has hair that ranges from dark, dark brown at the darkest, to sandy blond or bright red at the lightest. There are members of the clan whom go outside of this rule, who have naturally albino hair, or whom dye their hair an outrageous color, but most members of the clan fit within this rule, and most have a darker primary color with a lighter color highlighting strands in places [from exposure to the sun in the amount that it comes.]

Skin-tint: Anything in lightest or darkness, really. A kid could've been in the sun a lot, or not in it much at all, and it doesn't seem that there's really many genetic situations within the clan that're tied to the skin tint. While not-seen before, a chocolate tinted Umikoi or Mocha tinted Umikoi would not be out of the question.

Canines: The Umikoi clan universally and naturally have sharpened canines, which are naturally larger than normal canines should be. It is typically only noticeable upon deep observation, but it's there.

Birth-mark: The Umikoi clan's children are all born with a particular genetic marker somewhere upon their body, a wave like miscoloring of blues. It could be anywhere upon the child, but it is always there.

Build: The majority of adult Umikoi are built 'thicker' than others, with males typically having broad shoulders and being fairly tall, with a lot of muscle, and with Umikoi females typically having a lot of curves and a size-able bust.

Freckles: Yes, some Umikoi have freckles.

It was not until she was found gathering plants which only those with an apt skill in medicine would gather that her true specialty was discovered. She quickly begun under the tutelage of Umikoi Naosu and blossomed. In time, Naosu's beloved nephew Warrusu za Roku [whom had a crush on Ameko from the time he was three years old] finally wore Ameko's guard down, and they began dating, eventually marrying.

Wairu was instrumental in the rebellion of Kirigakure no Sato, and has learned much in the nine years since his grandfather and father were slain, and the five years since the people of Kirigakure threw off the shackles of the NCIA.

Wairudo is currently married to Umikoi Mitsukai [Formerly Ikaishi Mitsukai], and the father of Umikoi Mikola. Wairu is legendarily skilled at 'Go', and other strategy games played by his family.

He was a student to Kaguya Ezenji, and to Kudaime Mizukage, Sei Ryu. His most notable action, however, is the defeat of Hachidaime Raikage, Inabari Raikou.

He is currently a 'wild-card' in the luke-warm war between Hanatosei Takeru & Sekiryuu Minasoko, and he has professed no opinions on the matter, only that he will protect the village to the best of his abilities. Well known for both his skill with his kekkei genkei and ninjutsu, and in particular, for strategy.

Well-known within the clan for his exploits & pranks as a child, and he and his older brother's skirt chasing. Literally, skirt chasing. They'd try to pull them off their female cousins as a game.

Umikoi History Summary

The Clan which is known as Umikoi has been for most of it's life, barely trusted, and in some cases feared because of their many traditions, and because of the mysterious way they were formed. The clan's founder himself was not born within the village, but instead found by a fishing boat, caught in its net, and brought to the surface. The fishers were quite alarmed, and checked to see if the little boy they had found was still breathing. He was, and he seemed to be very much aware. The crew took this as a sign of good luck from the kami of the ocean, and took the boy, dubbing him "Umikoi", to the village which they lived in.

A village known as Kirigakure No Sato. The boy was taken in front of the Mizukage, and inspected after the tale had been tossed forth in a flurry like no other by the youngest of the sailors. His elders had told him that this boy must be a sign of good luck to the village, and he felt the need to show the Mizukage as a result. The boy's examination had made the Mizukage think he was a prime subject for shinobi training, or would be when he was older.

Years passed, and the boy, who's name was not properly "Umikoi" but was affectionately referred to that by many of his sempai, grew to be a young adult, and finished his Ninja Training. He had fulfilled the Mizukage's expectations, and possibly exceeded them in that time. He quickly ascended the ranks within the village Shinobi, becoming a Chuunin in just a year, and taking advanced missions whenever he could.

On one such mission, a thing which could only be explained as "Sensational" happened, and the young man quickly rose to fame within the village. When ambushed, the young man's teammates and he were almost routed, when his uniquely blue eyes began shifting with every color of blue that man had ever even hoped to see, and his jutsus had begun to work with even more efficiency than they had before, and as the battle strode on, began to resemble a maelstrom over the ocean. Suddenly, the very water around the young shinobi had become an extension of himself, and with this advantage, he won the field that day.

The young man had been successful in his mission, and in his desire to protect his comrades. They went on to tell the tale throughout the village, and the Mizukage and other key officials requested to see this "Amazing New Jutsu" in action. The young chuunin failed that day to show them this skill, and it was proclaimed it must have something to do with his heritage. A mysterious heritage which the entire village speculated over. In their speculation, many taboos came forth to the nin and his offspring, those who would over the centuries represent to Umikoi Clan within their village. A popular nickname for both the figure, and his origins, would relate to a great sea dragon, a leviathan.

The stories which were told of their ancestor slowly proved to be stories which might as well be told about all of them, because the extraordinary abilities which he had displayed showed up without slight in the majority of his children, and even grandchildren. He held the position of his clan's head with unyielding vigilance to his death, only strengthening the fear of the clan which sprung up throughout the time since they have existed.

In most cases of recorded humanity, rejection as a whole to a race of people leads to one of two things. The first, a war for respect and equal place by the rejected ones, or a choice of closing yourself off from your neighbors. The Umikoi Clan found this to be the only solution, because they loved their fellow citizens of Kirigakure, even if it was not reciprocated.

One hundred years in obscurity and silence have passed since then, the clan training their young ones in the abilities they hold dear, and the skills necessary for survival in private, sometimes on trips far away from their village, in the wilderness.

The invasion of Kirigakure by Kumogakure No Sato led to an unexpected action by the head at the time, one Umikoi Warrusu. Many of the adult males in the clan fought alongside their fellow Kirigakure nin, and proved to not be up to par to turn the tide of the more prepared Kumo nins.

The clan has since received slightly more respect from their fellow villagers since the fool hearty move. Their clan had been almost unknown by then, and was definitely unknown by people outside of Kirigakure, so they hid themselves without a word as Fisher folk, and Sailors, skills they excelled at from their lifetime of training.
