How MCU's Black Widow Should've Gone

Recommended Posts

A small thread for fanfic synopses of the Black Widow movie you wanted to see.

Yelena Bolova, the next greatest potential black widow is out to assassinate Natasha with Taskmaster. They track her down as Natasha has left an electronic trail of hacks that she uses to sustain her fugitive lifestyle. Natasha knows they're coming due to her well thought out abode, and uses spycraft (such as a pre-recorded hologram) to draw them out. She tries to fight them, but is equally matched by Yelena and outmatched by Taskmaster, forcing her to flee. We learn that Yelena is out to prove herself as the best Black Widow and Taskmaster is seeking revenge. Natasha gets away. She tracks down and seeks help from the Red Guardian, who was her ex-husband and is an active SVR operative in the middle of a sophisticated Intelligence operation. We get more complicated relationship dynamics from them about love, loss, and betrayal. He needs to go rogue to help her, but ultimately does. Together they draw out Yelena and Taskmaster, a hard battle ensues, ultimately the Red Guardian captures Yelena. Natasha uses her wits to draw more Intel from taskmaster during the fight, in which she discovers that Natasha had killed her father Draikov and left her an orphan. Taskmaster vows her revenge.

(Backstory) The Iron Maiden, handler of the Black Widows (Natasha's mom in the movie) had trained Taskmaster and together they discovered her power to mimic movements. Taskmaster became the de facto instructor of the Red Room. She wanted to seek revenge on her own, but Yelena came along and challenged Taskmaster as to who could kill Natasha and claim the mantle as the best assassin. (Back to main plot) Natasha and the Red Guardian escape with Yelena as their captive however Red Guardian gets killed by Taskmaster by poison, leading into more character development for Natasha before she interrogates Yelena. As a master interrogator, she discovers where the Red Room is and is determined to take it down for her sake, the Red Guardian, and all of the Black Widow's. She let's Yelena live because Natasha believes in good, unlike her past, and she goes to the Red Room. There she infiltrates, gets into fights defeats the other Black Widows and overcomes Taskmaster's mimic ability by using her intellect and spycraft since fighting Taskmaster one on one she would lose. She defeats Taskmaster and lets her live, again (referring to the time Taskmaster was a girl and Natasha let her live), but apologizes for killing Draikov. The Red Room gets disbanded, the Black Widow's are saved (or let loose). Natasha's mercy leaves lasting impressions on Yelena and Taskmaster adding complexity to their characters. Yelena turns a new leaf and decides to honor Natasha after all she's done as she thought taking down the Red Room was impossible. Taskmaster gets recruited by the SVR and continues to desire revenge even after the event settled. Taskmaster shines as an assassin but deceives the SVR to take the super soldier serum and becomes a full time mercenary hell bent on revenge. Even after discovering Natasha's death, Taskmaster wishes to avenge her father by killing The Avengers (whom Natasha considered her family.)
