Hayate and Tane have spent their entire lives training to become ANBU. The two have been together from the very beginning. Each step made each of them more like family. Now, as the final test for the ANBU unit is revealed, only one can move on. The two must sever all emotional ties and kill the other in order to be successful. Only the most heartless of the two can prevail, but at what cost?

"The fuck?!"

 

The revelation of the big test, the final exam, left the Konoha-nin thunderstruck. Though Hayate had sported a confident visage since his ANBU training initially began, he carried around a permanent knot in his stomach at his questionable success in the end. After every training session and every test, while successful, he was left feeling as though he'd underperformed, barely sliding by despite his actual talents. As usual, his inferiority complex clouded his judgment during most of the ordeal, but he prevailed nevertheless with the help of Hatake Tane and her dazzling presence which cut through the darkness that left him unknowing and ignorant to the reality of things. At the same time, however, she was the cause of his doubt, his apprehension, his mediocrity when thoughts of comparison swam through the raging current that was his brain. Not only was she a beaut, but she had undeniable talent. She was a constant reminder of his deceased twin siblings, geniuses who aspired to become ANBU operatives. They were the reason he strove to become one as well, doing so in their honor and for himself as well. Unfortunately, as much as he suppressed his jealousy and hate of his siblings over the years following their deaths, he remained bitter at his inadequacy and ordinariness when standing next to Tane.

 

And yet, he was close friends with the Hatake, easily more so than any of the other trainees, having always had each other's back when it counted. He aimed to be as great as her, despite the abysmal difference in skill. Regardless, he worked hard to make certain he measured up, to ensure he deserved the spot at her side. How fleeting was such a moment, for they were faced to decide whose dreams would be realized and whose would be crushed. Was this the reason his brother and sister died? Did their peers kill them? Or were they forced to fight each other? These questions and far too many more plagued the monochrome shinobi, his countenance twisted with dejection, anger and fear. Thinking was all he could do for what appeared like an eternity as he stared down his devoted friend and inevitable enemy. A human-shaped paradox she was, Hayate had no choice but to make a choice on what she truly was at that moment.

After years of training to become the best and strike to achieve her goal much like her father did. The dream to join the legendary ANBU was within reach, for the first time in her life all her training could finally pay off as she had a chance to become one. Sadly the only thing stopping her from entering the amazing career as an ANBU specialist was one of her best friends, they would need to fight to the death, only the one left standing could become one. Years of training and enjoying each other's company would come to a tiresome halt as they would now end up bloody and bruised, or worse, dead. But at what cost would joining the ANBU, her best frined would be left dead and she would achieve her life long goal, but she would be filled with remorse and regret, but on the other hand, if she lost, she would be dead.

 

 

Both entered the field of battle, with the leaders of the ANBU looking on she knew if they refused to fight, they would more then likely both end up dead. Perhaps they could fight together and try and take down a few before they were sliced to ribbons but the chances of that were slim, who knew how many of them were actually around. The choice was already made up, their training would make them fight to the end and kill each other. So be it.

 

"Hayate, you have been my best friend, but today that friendship comes to an end, I hope who ever loses will smile down on the other with no contempt. Are you ready?" She asked.

Before Hayate could speak the words he'd possibly regret for the rest of his life, whether it lasted a minute or a lifetime, the kunoichi took the words right out of his mouth. Even with death on the prospect, she didn't waver. Not that he expected anything. During their time of training together, she frequently went on about how much it was her dream to become an ANBU operative, not unlike her father. The weapon specialist couldn't help but feel insignificant when faced with the reasons for her life goals, even though theirs were fairly similar. After all, his feelings hadn't started off plain and pure. Forgiveness wasn't something he could offer towards himself, but Tane was a different story. The answer to the riddle that danced about his thoughts was, in truth, a simple one despite the hesitation he struggled with only moments ago: they were friends and would remain so until that so called end would come. "Tch, you're a pain in my ass like always, Tane. Our friendship might be coming to an end, but it hasn't yet... Not until we draw the last goddamn breathe, all right?! Until then, don't hold back! Just come at me!"

 

Though Hayate was bold in his proclamation, uneasiness set in without question. He entered into a stance, preparing to take the preemptive strike while he could. Except, he wavered. Despite the heavy tension that washed over the two combatants, coupled with the innumerable onlookers observing the ensuing clash, Hayate's mind had wandered. And not in the good way. Daydreaming wasn't something the Konoha-nin had done very often, but he couldn't help himself as his eyes glided over the Hatake's developing figure. Even in the face of a death match, his hormones couldn't give it a damn rest. Oh well. If he would die, at least he'd have some sweet eye candy as his final thoughts. In some way, it was pretty worth it.

Tane held back a few tears before nodding her head slightly in acknowledgment of their years of friendship. Knowing she would never hold back against her friend as that would truly be an insult to him and to everything they had fought for over the past few years. It was surreal knowing that everything they trained for would come to the conclusion in only moments. The battle wouldn't last to long she knew since they knew each other's combat style and battle prowess.

Description: The 'Yokaku' is a form of mental training used within the Hatake clan to sharpen the minds of their youth from a very early age. The clan member takes a moment to clear their mind, gathering the knowledge they know about their opponent and then using it guess their next movements of battle. This type of mental preparation helps the Hatake to understand their opponent and interpret the flow of battle on a deeper level.

The White Chakra Release is a secret technique of the clan that results in a white after image when using weapons imbued with their chakra. The truth of this ability is a very strict training from a young age at weapon combat which teaches the Hatake to squeeze every advantage they can out of a combat tool.
Effect: The user is able to purchase specific stats for a weapon with the tag [White Chakra Release] at normal cost for stat additions to weapons. Stats purchased this way are only granted while this skill is activated. As a free action in any phase the user may pay 1% of their total Chakra to activate this skill. In addition, an upkeep of 1% Chakra may be paid each turn at the end of the phase in which this was originally activated to continue the effects. Stats added through the [White Chakra Release] tag may never exceed 5% of the users total base statistics and are not counted within the normal stat limitation for equipment. This is not an advanced system. In addition, when purchasing this skill the user receives a level 10 weapon of either Medium or Large size with +20 [White Chakra Release] stats of their choosing and the attribute 'Unique' if they wish.

Though his perverted tendencies reigned over his actions for a moment, Hayate returned abruptly to the harshness of his reality with great reluctance swelling up inside his lithe figure. He stifled the upheaval of raw emotion that threatened to burst out of him and focused it towards his unexpected opponent. As much as he wanted to, the weapon practitioner couldn't hold himself back from giving the ensuing fight everything he could muster up from deep down. Noting the steady stream of chakra that engulfed her signature weapons, Hayate took action before she could, using his characteristic speed to overwhelm her from the start. Taking off into a mad dash, in mid-run, he reached into the shuriken holster situated at his right hip and pulled out two pairs of shuriken in a flash. Without hesitation, he tossed the four in Tane's direction, who would likely note that one pair were not unlike the traditional shuriken weapons, only larger than the norm. The other pair, however, were much different, appearing as silvery rings more than anything else, though their edges remained sharp all the same.

 

"That ain't the end of this shitstorm!" Hayate roared as he circled around Tane in efforts to flank her from the right, pulling out two black kunai knives in the process, Closing the distance in only a handful of swift steps, he planted his body next to hers after landing on a single foot, using the momentum of his dash to pivot on the spot, kicking up clouds of dust and debris from underneath his sandal. While he span in place, he extended his arms outward whilst maintaining the grip along the kunai's handles with the full intent to inflict a number of gashes and cuts that were certain to draw great quantities of blood.

Knowing what move was half the battle, the fact these two had been fighting together for years meant she had a feeling what he was going to do. As predicted he opened softly by tossing a couple of shirken her way. Luckily she managed to dodge a few but was still stuck getting hit with one of them. It made no difference as she was hardly phased but she started to get cocky knowing what he was going and didn't expect him to massively smash her with on of his taijutsu.

"C'mon, you're making this too easy!" Barked Hayate, almost as pained at his successful blows upon Tane as she was. He concealed his pain behind gritted teeth, bracing himself as he doubled back while withdrawing his kunai. Skidding himself to a halt with his thin, but muscular lower limbs, the weapon specialist strived to press the assault once more before she could retaliate, but it was too late! The resilient Hatake recovered after his barrage of throwing weapons and released a shocking display of lightning generated through the mediums that were her rapiers. The wave of electricity cut through the air unrelentingly, coming only inches from Hayate as he attempted to fashion hand seals for a classic technique most shinobi knew of. "Shunshin no---"

 

While the speedster was quick on his feet, he wasn't fast enough to successfully perform the Body Flicker Technique, nor was he in optimal positioning for dodging the lightning blast. It struck him hard and fast, his body jerking about violently as the currents rushed through him indiscriminately. Simple static from had nothing on such a powerful technique! Hayate was unable to say he wasn't expecting the go-to attack from his adversary, but there was something about being on the receiving end that clouded his judgment. It was foolish of him, that much that knew. He also knew that such an injury was almost all he could take on without collapsing in a smoking heap. "Shit, that hurt like fucking hell!"

 

Concluding the moaning and groaning under his breath with haste, Hayate hands shot up like lightning themselves and flashed through the seals for the Body Flicker Technique once more. In an instant, he disappeared from sight with the help of the chakra that enhanced his already impressive leg strength and appeared a short distance behind Tane. The phenomenal movement he exhibited far eclipsed even the speed his weapons flew through the air at, his solitary, wayward large shuriken whizzing in its owner's new direction. Before it would strike Hayate, he reached into the bag strapped to his back to pull out a massive folded shuriken. Unfolding it in a hurry, the weapon user flexed his muscles as best as possible, given the circumstances, and tossed the grand weapon towards Tane. Despite its great size, Hayate's aim remained true as ever as it struck the incoming shuriken in such a way that it ricocheted off the larger weapon and shot back at the kunoichi for a dose of deja vu and then some.

 

Of course, the agile ninja wouldn't give his assailant another chance to clap back with another thunderous jolt. At least, not without him cranking up the heat some more! While the Hatake might've been distracted with his wondrous hand work, Hayate was applying a secondary measure of his sleight of hand prowess, having pulled out two windmill shuriken during his prior antics. However, only one would be visibly seen by those without a watchful eye as the monochrome shinobi threw them in such a way that the second hit in the first's shadow. The Shadow Shuriken Technique, while elementary in its execution, was effective for deception against those having rarely witnessed it.

Description: One of the basic techniques taught to most students during their time at the academy. The Body Flicker Technique is considered an extremely versatile ability, and is one of the most widely used general shinobi skills. The jutsu itself is a high-speed movement ability that uses chakra to temporarily vitalize the body, allowing movement that is nearly untraceable to the naked eye. The user often disappears from the field of their opponent’s vision in a puff of smoke, as a means to further distract their path of escape. Though Shunshin has many applications, its most common use is in evading hazardous attacks.

Description: Shuriken Kanshō no Jutsu is an advanced technique that is typically self-taught by shinobi seeking advanced ninja tool proficiency. This technique's principle is a basic one that is difficult to properly exercise; after failing to successfully strike a target with a single thrown weapon(sometimes intentionally), the user will throw a second weapon and use the first to rebound from and catch an opponent off-guard. Sometimes, two weapons are made to collide such that they would then individually strike two differing targets.

Description: The Kage Shuriken Jutsu has been taught to young ninja for years, both as a practice to enhance one's timing when attacking and as a method for attacking with subterfuge. To perform this attack, the user must throw two fuma shuriken shuriken, the first toss being overt and obvious, and the second being almost imperceptible. To perform this attack successfully, the user hides their second shuriken within the shadow of the first, leaving the target open to the attack, even if the first shuriken is deflected.
