cntrstrk14 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Ninja Academy 8.0 Welcome members! As you can guess from the topic title, there are going to be some large scale changes to NA in this and following posts. This will not be as large of changes as 7.0, but these changes, especially the one in this post, will have significant impact to every character on the site. To be clear, this post will be the first of a few that will explain all of the changes that will be taking place. They are broken up because as of now we are still tweaking the final bits of the other changes. However, this change was the largest and most important, so it is being revealed ahead of the rest of the changes. Leveling EXP Adjustment The Problem: As Ninja Academy has evolved, the way experience works has changed over time along with the game. The original intention with the experience needed to gain levels was that mission experience would scale in the same manner. As it turns out, this is much harder to manage and over time it has largely been up to inturpretation. The result is that players will level far faster than intended through level 1-20 and much slower than intended in the later levels of 75+. Characters will often go through level 1-10 in a single mission or event with a GM, and with very little effort they are already pushing the level where they obtain Chuunin. There is a lot of fun opportunities to be had at Gennin level and more importantly, a lot of room for a character to evolve and hit their stride. Since we feel that these levels are important, this change will prolong the time a character spends in these levels. Additionally, later in the game characters will be able to level faster as well. The Solution: Instead of a range of 100 EXP per level to 1200 EXP per level we are narrowing that field to 400 EXP per level to 800 EXP per level. The break down as it is now is... Level 1-10: 100 EXP Level 11-20: 200 EXP Level 21-75: 400 EXP Level 76-100: 800 EXP Level 101-120: 1200 EXP The change would bring this instead to... Level 1-30: 400 (12,000) Level 31-60: 500 (15,000) Level 61-80: 600 (12,000) Level 81-100: 700 (14,000) Level 101-120: 800 (16,000) It is important to point out that the TOTAL amount of EXP to reach level 120 is the same. What This Means For Your Character: This is a universal change, which means all current and future characters will have to be adjusted to fit this new rule. As you might have realized before the end of that last sentence, this means that many of you will "lose" levels. Don't worry, we do not want anyone to lose levels for multiple reasons. So to compensate for this we are going to enact a "catchup" system. Here is how it works... "EXP Buyback" System: If the adjustment of TXP has your character losing levels, instead you will do the following. - This is completely optional, you may have your character lose levels if you wish. - If you choose to, retain your current level, no loss of level will occur. - Find out how much TXP you will need to reach the level you are keeping. For instance, if you were level 30 with 7000 EXP, you will now be equivalent to level 17 and a half. To reach level 30 under the new rules you need 12,000 EXP. On your character under TXP you will put 7000/12,000 EXP. - Until you reach the EXP needed to return to your level, ALL EXP gains your character receive get a +30% bonus. This stacks with ALL other types of EXP bonuses, including Quick Learner and Death Bonuses perks. - Once you reach your TXP to reach your level, all EXP gains beyond that do not gain the bonus 30%, even if the EXP was all gained at the same time. For instance, if you are at 11,300 EXP and need to get to 12,000 EXP to regain your level and you are awarded 1,000 EXP, you gain the +30% on 539 of the EXP (538 * 1.3 = ~701 EXP). The remaining 461 EXP will gain no bonus and be added normally. - All retired or killed characters will have the next character based in the TXP, not on their retained level. - Once you retain your level you continue on normally. Concerns: We realize that with these new EXP changes we may want to revisit EXP for missions and possibly even training. We are holding off on those changes for now though to see how this adjustment goes first. We also value all of your feedback, so please let us know what you think in the following link. In fact, all questions, opinions or concerns about this change specifically should be posted in that forum or PM'ed to a staff member. As always, if you have any questions feel free to ask a staff member (or post in the following thread).
