Distinguishing Features:

Horakuma Branch- Members of the Horakuma Branch tend to be rather wirey or lanky, and tend to be average height. Few are short, or otherwise small. Horakuma members' eyes can be any color, but many are golden brown, and have feline-isque slit-irises. Their hair tends to look tousled, and no matter what the length it tends to give someone the image or an instant recognizability of them as some sort of people tied to Lions or Big Cats, because their hair tends to resemble it. Most members have hair which is some color of blonde, or red. Blonde seems to dominate the branch as far as the most members with that color of hair, though. They tend to have large incisors as well.

Horaguma Branch- Members of the Horaguma Branch tend to be very tall and stalky, the smallest of their full grown members standing at 6 foot 2. Horaguma members' eyes can be any color, but tend to be dark dark young oak color of brown, and have an almost bear like look. Their hair tends to be thick and flat, giving them a grizzled look in most cases, and in many cases, no matter the length tend to make them look somewhat ursine. Most people within the branch family have brown hair, or black hair, though dark brown tends to dominate the branch members, as far as hair goes. Horaguma members tend to also have somewhat long faces, and patient expressions tend to dominate them. They tend to have large incisors as well.

Shared Physical Traits-Members of both of the branches of Horajouin who are adult males tend to have facial hair, in many cases which is very bushy and otherwise clearly visible. It tends to be well kept, no matter its length, and is a mark of pride. Many members of the clan who keep longer beards, braid them.

Origins: Many years ago, possibly before history itself was something people cared to write, there existed a nation of people, who were not so much a nation as a group of tribes who shared the same values and such. The area signified here was the territory which the tribes claimed as their union's territory.

These tribes were people that many in the more civilized places may have called savages, people who kept themselves in tune with the spirits and lived with and dealt with conditions which others would not deal with. They were proud and fierce in anything they did, and each tribe held a totem in which they trusted heavily. Two such tribes, the tribe which worshiped the Cave Bear, and the tribe which worshiped the Cave Lion, lived in the lands which would later be counted as Earth Country.

These two tribes lived as simply and regally as one would expect such people to live, living on the land which they were born in; hunting, scavenging, whatever it took. They were the tribes most in tune with the spirits of the mountain, the tribes which focused the most on it and lived the most within it. They lived, worshiping their nature spirits and exploring in the ways of man and of spirit as they did. Time continued to go on as it always had, until approximately 800 years before the first true shinobi existed, the sages of the tribes had a dream. It was a dream which brought both fear and excitement to them, because in the dream the respective totems of the tribes finally chose to take human form, and bless the people with the power. It was a dream which also held something unheard of by the hunters and gatherers before, however. It held war.

Dreams are naught but prophecies of things to come, or so goes the superstition of many. These men and women of the wood and mountain were people who held such superstition, so in turn, they began to mount for war, each tribe preparing for what they thought would be the invasion by the other, by mounting their own war parties, the best they could think to do.

To advert the other tribe of their plans, both tribes sent forth a youth who they believed could make seem as if their tribe was doing, the eldest son of the Horaguma tribe's headman coming forth, and the youngest daughter of the Horakuma tribe's headwoman coming forth. They were both sent two days ahead of their assualt forces, expecting to end up at their tribe's enemy's encampment a day ahead of time to cool things off before a surprise attack. Both children knew of what would soon happen, and both had tools, weapons which they would justify with a single statement if anyone asked.

"It is for me to protect myself if any enemies of my totem animal decide to attempt to attack me."

The child envoy of the Horaguma, a boy named Horaguma Mugen, held an axe upon his back. He was a youth who was as broad and tall as a mountain in human form, and seemed almost as if he had taken directly after the characteristics of his tribes' totem.

The child envoy of the Horakuma, a girl known by the members of her tribe as "Haki", or Horakuma Haki by any other person, held a pair of hunting blades at her sides, blades which were slightly longer than a dagger, almost the length of a short sword, and identical on both sides almost. She seemed to by a youth who was as limber as a young tree, and around the height of one. She seemed to have also taken after the totem of her tribe.

These two zealous children met half way, at a place which had once been held as holy ground by the two tribes together, a set of standing stones which had been there since before the eldest of the tribes could remember. These zealous children met, knowing the plans of their tribe and not that of the others, and expecting that the other child was possibly a forward scout, or something else which they found idiotic to allow to continue living.

Weapons were unsheathed, and a battle which rang out to the heavens ensued.

These children fought and fought hard, knowing nothing of war but quickly learning it, matching each other blow for blow, the quicker with many, and the slower with heavier blows. Though of different fighting styles, they were equals, the slower proving to be more staminant than the quicker, and the quicker more capable of dodging those heavy blows.

Hours passed, and those children lay upon each others blades, a finishing move dealt by each and to them by the other, and from their bodies came a rain of blood, those standing stones giving a refreshing shower, and two spirits slowly descending on the children. Both children could see the spirits, and the spirits spoke to both children. One was Ursus, the patron of the Horaguma tribe. The other, Leo, patron of the Horakuma tribe.

These spirits spoke to their dying children, telling them of a great many things, and emphasizing one. These two children were to lead their tribes to unity, so that when the days of change came, each house would have an ally in the other, the lords of the caves could co-exist. The children were dying, though, as both pleaded to their patron, and soon both were no longer dying. They were two who had been revitalized, two who had become gods among men, their patron spirits incarnate, so to speak. They stood, after discussing how to stop the impending war, and their decision was to stay at this holy ground of their people, stay and wait for the oncoming armies, to meet them and stop them, even by force.

A bit of both ensued soon after, a skirmish and a speech, and in the end these children's traits, which had been greatly changed under the influence of their spirits' visits, soon became revered, in a moment alone. They were children of the tribe heads, so it was of no big concern when they said for both tribes to move to this place, realizing that it was a place which was high on the mountain, and which had a system of caves not far away which their peoples could live in and prosper in.

The Alliance of the Mountain Lords, the Horajouin, was formed, and they would hold strong and continue their way of life for many years to come.

They of course adapted to life as it changed, slowly meeting and taking aspects from the shinobi who showed up as time passed, the incredibly old but still youthful clan heads, Horaguma Mugen and Horakuma Haki, still making sure that the traditions which they received from their patrons were held, and the mountains were protected. As Iwagakure was formed, they watched, having lived nearby this shinobi village as both a threat and a promising possibility. Finding out the village would not impede on their way of life, the clans gave it their word of allegiance, and becoming a protective and good force towards Iwagakure no Sato, watching from the foothills and mountains were they lived.

Recent History: The Horajouin Clan of course fought against Kumogakure no Sato when Kumogakure invaded, seeing the invasion as an affront to both the nation which held their allegiance and the land which the nation itself was in. They fought fiercely, but luckily the majority of them lived in a place which was secluded enough for the clan itself to not be harmed in the searches which occurred after Kumo invaded, the NCIA wanting to flush out whatever clans they could.

The Horajouin took a fairly neutral stance in the interactions if Iwagakure after words, and though they supported Iwagakure no Sato's resistance with supplies, they did not support the resistance with actual troops, in most cases, unless individual families or members wished to give themselves up for such a cause.

The recent events within Iwagakure no Sato have made these Cave Lords fairly interested in the going ons of the village which they have previously pledged themselves too, but have not been greatly affected by it. They are starting to support their village in full force again, as well.

Horajouin Clan Skills

Positive skills

Skill Name: Tongue of The Spirit Guardians

Bloodline: Horajouin; Horakuma or Horapuma Branch

Description: The Peoples of the Horajouin have always been watched by the Spirit Guardians, Mother Cave Lion and Father Cave Bear. They are raised around animals of said breeds, the last of those animals' kinds, and revere those creatures. Both the Animals and the Horajouin themselves are viewed as the children of these guardians, and the people and the animals under these Spirits' watch collectively call themselves the Horajouin.

Because of the fact that the children of the Horajouin are raised around these Feline and Ursine Beasts, and because of the rituals which go on within the clan, they are gifted with the ability to pick up the sounds emitted by such creatures on a full level, and are able to duplicate said sounds, and do so fluently and without any problem. They speak the language of these creatures just as easily as they speak the language of their own people, in fact.

Effect: (RP Purposes only) Allows character to communicate with any type of Feline or Ursine Creature.

Hindering Skills

Skill Name: Tribal Unity

Bloodline: Horajouin; Horakuma and Horapuma Branches

Description: The peoples of the Horajouin stick by many traditions, and gain strength in some places and weaknesses in others because of this. They are a tight-knit clan, and it is known that in most cases they live in secrecy and in their own enclaves, not even within the walls of Iwagakure no Sato. Within their enclaves, the Horajouin don't use money to gain things, they do favors and they barter. There in no need for money, so youth amongst the Horajouin do not have it. In fact, the tribe buys things from outside of the tribe with the money which the tribe gathers together itself, and most members of the tribe, even when living abroad, make sure that the tribe has money in it's treasury because of this.

The members of the Horajouin respect the values of the new world when one is in the new world, but within their private pieces of the days of old, they see no need. This proverb is taught to everyone within the clan.

Effect: A member of the Horajouin Clan does not begin with any money, no matter what. In addiction to this, any money they earn must be divided in a way so that a 8th of it goes to providing for the clan's needs and making sure that the clan's treasury stays full.
