dowhatnow
I just thought of something. Tell me if I'm crazy. The realm of music is basically one large, many-sided polyhedron that we could call a room, yes? So naturally, I'm sure we all have our one little niche that we love to hang out in when it comes to our tastes in music. Some of us hang out in an electronic music corner, others stick to metal and its subgenres, and others still sit in other corners of this "room". Follow me so far? Good. Well, I figured I'd make a thread encouraging the membership of NA to charge headlong into the exact opposite corner of this vast room that we call music. First, we'd have to characterize our favorite genres. Then, we'd need to rely on others to provide input on what I'd like to call the "anti-genre". This can include the names of genres (or subgenres), artists, songs and so forth that are in opposition to our favorites. Example: Jim: I'm a fan of Metal and anything similar. This equates to a generally angry, distorted, guttural sound. What lies in opposition to this? Does anyone know?Random NAer #23897: I'm a fan of Smooth Jazz. It seems like this pretty close to an exact opposite to what you're describing. Make sense? "But Jim, why would I ever want to leave my comfort zone? I like what I like and that's not going to change!" You're a damn fool if you honestly believe that a group of artists that you favor is actually going to hold you over for very long before their collective flavor becomes bland and you start to lose interest, leading you to search for something new, or just the next big thing. Buck up and try something new. If I'm willing to try it [and if you know me very well, you know I'm pretty set in my musical tastes], it has to mean something. What have you got to lose but maybe a bit of your time? I just gave you a starting point, so get to it!
