Clan Progenitor:

Hakkyō Bakamaru; Hakkyō Bakamaru lived some time ago, and he came from a village with a large body of water around it. He was never considered a smart man by his peers, but he was a skilled boatwright and sailor. He was known for shocking his relations with his feats of great strength and agility. Unfortunately, he was best remembered during his time for his poor choice of clan symbols.

Clan Head:

Hakkyō Orokashi; Orokashi is the current leader of the Hakkyō clan and arguably the smartest member of the clan to ever live. It was his brilliant idea to purchase a marina in Arrakis, where his clan might sail the boats they make. Unfortunately, he has not yet realized that creating his boats in Sunagakure and portaging them by hand to Arrakis is extremely inefficient.

Clan Status:

Obscure; Though strong in combat when absolutely necessary, the Hakkyō clan has never made a name for themselves as shinobi, aside from 'those weird people that sometimes drags boats through the desert'. Having forgotten the name of their original homeland, the Hakkyō have lost a large piece of their history, further obscuring their notoriety.

Clan Age:

Old; Formed some time during the Warring States Era, the Hakkyō clan were originally an extremely skilled clan of sailor-nin, and many practiced taijutsu and water ninjutsu, but much of their history and many secret techniques were lost with the nebulously named 'Troubling Event' that occurred sometime in the past, and prompted them to seek a new homeland.

cfZ8jU7.png?1 Clan History:

• The eldest members of the Hakkyō clan remember landing on the desert beaches of Kaze no Kuni, but they cannot recall exactly what it was that caused such a migration for the clan, and refer to it as simply the ‘troubling event’, but whatever it was must have fully destroyed their home village, as no one has ever come looking for them. Clan records from before that time were for the most part left behind. Though enough of their history remained through verbal accounts and reproductions of historical documents that the clan remembers their founder and the original tenants of their clan, much has been lost.

Hakkyō Bakamaru was the greatest Boatwright of his village, and his sons and daughters became skilled sailors and shipbuilders themselves. So great was their affinity to sailing the waters of their nation that they made their clan symbol a compass pointing north, so that they might always be able to find their way. Of course, many others realized it looked a lot like a dunce cap on a person’s head, and it came to be a point of ridicule for the clan, though they always displayed it proudly.

Despite not being the most intellectual type of ninja, the clan has developed a genetic way of overcoming obstacles with their body that they would otherwise be unable to surmount with their brain. Hakkyō Bakamaru coined this kekkei genkai ‘Ketsudanryoko’ a name that puzzled many, but the name has stuck over the years, to the point where it is no longer questioned.

It is unknown what ‘troubling event’ actually caused the clan to seek new harbors, but some scholars surmise that the Hakkyō clan once hailed from Uzushiogakure no Sato, and may even bear some link to the Uzumaki clan, as they have a definite reddish tint to their hair, and are so long lived, that some in the clan remember the reign of the Fourth Kazekage. The clan cannot confirm or deny this hypothesis, but they enjoy the idea that they might have come from such a legendary place.

When they arrived in Kaze No Kuni, the Hakkyō leaders originally thought it to be a massive island, and when scouting it, missed the capital of Arrakis entirely, only to wander through the desert for days. By happy accident the clan stumbled to the gates of Sunagakure where they were first thought to be spies from Kirigakure. It became evident after some time, that the clan was not playing dumb, and were actually just simple. They were allowed to take up residence on the condition that they send their children to the academy to become shinobi. Which some came to realize may have been a mistake.

The clan took again to creating boats, as they had done since their founding, which was a terrible puzzlement to the village at large. Many wondered where they got the lumber to create them, and others questioned why they didn’t make them closer to the ocean. The wood was a simple answer. During one of the clan’s first missions, their leader at the time ingratiated himself to the Third Hokage, who liked the honest, simple fellow so much that he granted the clan exclusive rights to selectively log areas of Hi No Kuni. The village has continued to uphold this treaty in honor of Sarutobi Hiruzen.

When confronted with the question of why they don’t build their boats closer to the water, most Hakkyō stare blankly at their questioner, and answer with a shrug. Either the idea had never occurred to them or switching their tradition of portaging the boats across the sand would somehow disturb their heritage.

Despite these peculiarities, the Hakkyō clan are strong warriors, that fight with great strength. They are courageous to a fault and some say it is because they lack the good sense to know better, but that does not stop them from defending allies to the very end, and with the help of their kekkei genkai it is often the end for their foes that ceases a battle.

To this day Hakkyō clansmen can be seen dragging boats ranging in size from small skiffs to larger fishing vessels through the sand, with dumb, blank stares in their face. This is the mark of their blood limit forcing them on despite the great weight of the boats that they move.
