Ambush??? Please, Don't Eat Kumori!!!

Recommended Posts

There was a forest existing in some nebulous point between villages. Fate had lured a young Kumogakure kunoichi into the forest for some vital mission, but she was far from alone. Through the trees, flanking either side of her, twin shadows crept, inspecting their prey from opposite angles. Suddenly they flashed from the trees, landing before Kumori on the path before her, six arms each spread in an inhuman fighting pose.

"Ahh, prey, did you know someone has put a bounty on stopping you?" Himiko smirked as she announced the pair's intentions for the unfortunate girl.

"Seems whatever mission you're on, someone doesn't want to see finished. We could claim this by simply convincing you to go home, but that would be no fun at all." Kimiko joined her sister in unsettlingly smiling at Kumori, the pair staring the girl down with a disquieting hunger in their eyes.

What would the shinobi from the lightning country do? Would her story end here? Would she triumph against adversity? One thing was certain, she would have to fight her way out no matter what path lay before her.

Teikoku Kumo | 帝国くも | Imperial Spider

Spoiler

The rare inheritors of the true power of the Tsuchigumo clan manifest physical traits unlike any the ninja world otherwise encounters. Three sets of arms exist upon their torso, allowing for thrice the power in focused efforts as each additional pair of limbs amplifies the power of the others by no small amount. The real value, however, of this extensive physical mutation is how the Tsuchigumo warrior, naturally ambidextrous through their inherited bloodline, can broadly perform a wide range of tasks simultaneously a normal human could never comprehend.
Requirements: Must be taken at character creation. If a character acquires this bloodline as part of a transfusion, they must undergo an additional 20 post hospital thread in Otogakure to facilitate the physical modifications this bloodline requires.

Effects:
This character has six total arms. This grants them the following bonuses.

• Whenever this character performs an attack they may add two (2) additional strikes to that attack. Each additional strike uses Accuracy and Evasion to hit and is made with a Small Weapon. The base damage of the strike is equal to the base damage of the Small Weapon, is modified by the user's Taijutsu, and the strike gains any effects that the Small Weapon has. This attack consumes the Small Weapon as if it was thrown, and is considered a Weapon Attack in addition to its original type.

• This character ignores the effects of 'Bound [Arm]'.

• The maximum duration for 'Bound [Paired Arms]' for this character is two (2) turns instead of three (3) turns.

• While afflicted with 'Bound [Arm]' or 'Bound [Paired Arms]' this character loses access to the extra strikes provided by this skill for its duration.

Requirement: Ocular Tension

Chakra Flow I

Spoiler

Maybe you have spent countless hours of meditation and practice, and have crafted your mind and body into a temple of self discipline. Or maybe you're just naturally good at it. Either way, your chakra circulatory system is of superb quality.Rank 1: Gain 10% of your Total Chakra every turn. This replaces normal Chakra regeneration.

Dark Binary Star

Spoiler

Twins share a unique bond, some moreso than is often considered humanely possible. They can move as one, think as one, speak as one, but this has its drawbacks. They suffer as one, and their drive to maintain their unity at all costs often leaves them beggared where others get along just fine. But to these special pairs of shinobi, there is no price to high to stay together.
Effect: This character is made up of two characters. Mechanically, they are treated as one character, but suffer the following penalties:
-Area of Effect techniques that deal damage have their total damage increased by 20% against this character
-All money given to this character from any source is reduced by 50% (Including that earned from missions, given as bonus rewards, made from selling items or given by other characters)
-Items given to this character by other characters cannot be used unless this character pays 50% of the amount originally paid for the item.
Requirement: Must be taken at character creation

Pervert; Female

Spoiler

Many compare you to a young Jiraiya... It's not a compliment.
Effect: Whenever this character attacks a female opponent for the first time in battle they are immediately afflicted with 'Charmed' against that opponent for two (2) turns. By default you may only choose male or female, however with staff permission you may choose physical characteristics instead.

Princess Notes: You'll be going first with your higher speed. So you can both do your intro post and first turn all as one. Remember, unless your speed is high enough to get two turns on me (which, I mean it might be, I dunno hahaha) you cannot take any offensive actions in the first turn. Good luck!

Strolling casually through the trees, pack slung over her shoulder, Kumori let out a long sigh as she took note of the scored and scratched tree only a few feet away from her. Great. Only half-way there. This is going to take forever at this pace; maybe I should just speed things up a little. It's not like I'm going to need the cha-

Stumbling to a stop as figure flashed out in front of her, the blonde kunoichi groaned, eyeing her assailant - assailants? - with weary irritation. "Bounty hunters? That's just swell. Exactly what I needed right now, ugh." Absent-mindedly reaching up to comb a lock of hair in front of her face in a half-hearted attempt to hide the jagged scar, she unslung the pack from her shoulder, dropping it to the ground beside her before crouching down into a sprinting pose. "Look, I'm in a real bad mood at the moment, so I'm just gonna go ahead and finish this quickly."

[Setup Phase]

Kumori is using Conduit Style

Conduit Style

Spoiler

A style developed as a natural extension of the Sokudo's clan bloodline abilities. By utilizing fluid, circular martial attacks, the user is able to draw in static electricity similar to The Speed Force, albeit to a lesser degree. While this cannot be used to achieve the same levels of blistering speed as the speed force itself, the energy can be burned to increase the speed and damage of the user's attacks.
Effect: [Conduit Style] techniques generate a "Conduit" charge on a successful hit. The user is able to store a maximum of 5 Conduit charges, which can be used for the following:

- When a user performs a [Conduit Style] technique, they may pay x charges to gain 40x Chakra, 40x Stamina or 20x Chakra and Stamina.
- When the user performs a damage dealing [Conduit Style] technique, they may spend 1 "Conduit Charge" to afflict themselves with the status effect 'Haste' for 1 turn.
- Conduit charges can be spent to pay for the costs of techniques that require them.

Requirements: Sokudo Clan
Cost: -1

Description: Channeling lightning chakra through their body, the shinobi uses the electricity to force their muscles to contract faster than what is normally possible, allowing them to dodge attacks with unparalleled speed. Unfortunately this technique cannot be sustained for long, lest damage be dealt to the user.
Restrictions: Limit 2 per battle; Can only target self.

The Path of the Balanced

Spoiler

Rather than specialize themselves in a particular field, there are some shinobi who see such things as limiting their potential. These people often use all that they have at their disposal in order to achieve victory, rather than focus on just one path.
Effect: Characters with this skill may reduce the cost of all Hybrid Techniques by -1 JP, to a minimum of 1. Additionally, characters with this skill may choose an Advanced Path from the ones allowed by their chosen Balanced Masteries.

Road of the Balanced: (Choose Two)
Twisted Specialities: When taking a 'Subtle Elements', 'Taijutsu Style' or 'Genjutsu Archetype' skill the user may receive a free rank in one of the other two not taken whose base cost is equal to or less than the taken skill's base cost. For instance; if you take 'Subtle Elements; Fire' you may get one Taijutsu Style or one Genjutsu Archetype for free. May take 'Path of the Elementalist'.
Economy of Motion: All Hybrid Jutsu that involve Taijutsu do not require hand seals. May take 'Path of the Tactician'.
Mind's Eye: Every 100 points in Accuracy increases your chance to hit with Concentration based Genjutsu attacks by 2%. May take 'Path of the Mentalist'.
Body and Mind: When taking 'Inner Calm' or 'Steadfast Durability' the user gains a rank of the other for free. May take 'Path of the Warlord'.

The girls was quick, she hadn't wasted a beat moving into a combat position and announcing her intent to fight, which was thankfully exactly what the twins were hoping. A hunt where the prey just turned tail and run had the thrill of the chase, but that wore off quickly. But a fight? Now that was something else. The pair licked their lips, putting on a predatory air that they had hoped would unsettle the gennin before them, throwing her off her game and letting the twins take advantage of the situation. But there was something more about this girl, the way her body was tensed, it seemed like power was almost crackling off her body. They were cautious, a valuable trait as renegade shinobi. She might be a gennin, but it's not like they ever graduated to chuunin themselves, they were D rank common criminals. But maybe here was their chance to make a name for themselves.

Capitalising on the fact there was two of them, Himiko threaded hand seals to cast forth a handful of clones, given the twins were, well, twins, finding the real them amidst the clones would be a painful endeavour for sure. Kimiko, on her end, spat a small ball of golden webbing into her hand, then stretched a thin line of white web between her lowest set of hands, setting the golden ball at the centre. When the time came, she would be ready to launch a very uncomfortable blast towards Kumori, the kind that might break through whatever sorcery she summoned about herself.

Himiko uses Clone Jutsu II, Creating 4 clones that grant +80 Accuracy.

Cost: 5(4)-40(Nin Amp III)=10 Chakra (minimum 50%)

Clone Technique II | Bunshin No Jutsu II

Spoiler

Type: Ninjutsu
Rank: Gennin
Cost: 5x Chakra
Effect: This technique may be used in the Setup Phase or Main Phase. When determining the cost of this technique 'x' is considered to be the number of 'Clones' created by the user and may never be greater than 4. 'Clones' have 1 Health and 1% of the user's other statistics. 'Clones' are not physical and may not take any actions. The user of this technique gains +20 Evasion or +20 Accuracy for every 'Clone' of this type on the battlefield. The bonuses of 'Clones' of this type may be ignored by any character with heightened senses (i.e; Byakugan, Path of the Sensor, Inuzuka Smell Tracker, etc). This technique may be used in the Setup Phase 1 time per battle.
Description: A technique that most students are required to be proficient in before they can graduate from the academy, the Bunshin no Jutsu is the most basic of the myriad of clone techniques that exist in the world. By properly molding their chakra, the user is capable of creating near perfect replicas of themselves. Unlike most bunshin jutsu, the basic clone technique does not produce physical clones but creates something more akin to a projected image, which is a real image that has no form. The Clone Technique is considered an E-Ranked jutsu, and is not very powerful, but with practice and ingenuity many shinobi have come to use it in masterful ways. Most often stalling by hiding out among their clones, or setting themselves up for a strong offensive.

Cost: 40-40(Nin Amp III)=20 Chakra (50% minimum)
Damage: 15(base)+75(Ninjutsu)+30(Ninjutsu Mastery VI)+40 (Nin Amp III)=160 Damage
Effects: Prone [1], will also allow 4 small weapon strikes when activated (2 from Golden Webbing, 2 from Imperial Spider)

Spoiler

Type: Ninjutsu [Golden Webbing | Set Trap | Hijutsu: Tsuchigumo]

Rank: Gennin

Cost: 40 Chakra

Damage: 15

Effects: Prone [1]
Description: The user creates a small ball of lighter than normal golden webbing, which they stretch and attach to a surface. When the adhesive runs out, it rockets forward like catapult, and thin tracer lines spat by the user guide it directly into the target's head. The initial impact isn't too painful, but the sudden surprise impact can easily knock even the sturdiest opponent to the ground, leaving them open to a nasty follow up.

Clenching her teeth against the pain of her defensive technique, Kumori held herself perfectly still - for the moment, at least. As the unnerving person - people? - used a basic clone technique, the scarred shinobi sighed internally. That would be a pain; though at least it was something that she'd begun to get prepared for. Taking one last steadying breath, she reached into the small pouch at her hip, fishing out a handful of marbles.

"I don't know what your deal is..." Kumori announced loudly, stalling for time as she charged up the handful of marbles in her hands with chakra. Eyes locked on that ball of golden webbing she twisted back slightly, winding up for a throw, "...but it's not working to work!"

Hurling forward the sparce handful of marbles in a wide arc towards the clones, Kumori surged forward swiftly after her attack, hoping to close the distance between herself and her opponents as quickly as possible.

The twins did not expect their target to have the tools to take on a swarm of clones so readily. While it didn't exactly tax their resources to make clones, it was kind of frustrating that they barely passed as a distraction. Kumori had thrown a handful of marbles that shook with energy, that scattered into the crowd of clones and the girls themselves, exploding in a fearsome barrage that annihilated the clones instantly, and even Himiko and Kimiko were forced to take a few steps back as marbles impacted them, detonating and leaving painful burns on the exposed flesh of their midsections. With a venomous hiss, the twins slid back, noticing that Kumori was intent on closing the distance, likely because she was more dangerous up close than at range, and if she could destroy their clones so quickly at range, they hated to see what she could do up close.

So they needed a barrage of ranged attacks of their own to force Kumori to back off, and they had the perfect means to do so. As they retreated, the girls spat white web into their hands, then held hands with each other and spread their arms apart, creating a single, strong thread of white webbing pulled to the highest tension it could manage. With all the haste they could summon, the twins each used additional limbs to spit out golden webbing, Himiko crafting a long, barbed spear and Kimiko crafting a spiralling head to tip it with. Crafting the two together into a single, monstrous projectile, the girls released the strong, launching the barb forth as each girl grabbed a large shuriken and kunai from their pouches to follow it.

Oh, but they weren't done. Rapidly dipping one needle each in the small vial of mushroom extra they carried on their persons, Kimiko released the ball of golden webbing she'd crafted moments before as the twins added another flurry of needles, the deadly envenomated ones hidden between the regular needles, which would hopefully give Kumori little time to react. She was moving forward at an incredible speed, she would need incredible reflexes to escape this. "Maybe tricks won't work, but we have brought more than tricks to the table today! Don't think you've won before the first blood is spilled!"

Senbon: To hit - 149%, Damage - 1+(0/4 Taijutsu Mod)=1 Moulding Mushroom Extract (Metabolic Breakdown [3])

[Note: Moulding Mushroom will only apply on the first poisoned senbon that hits, if both poisoned senbon hit, the poison is only applied once. Also, note that these attacks all happen in order. So you must first dodge Golden Binary Star and all of its additional strikes, which will apply to your barrier. Then, you will need to dodge Pale Gold. Ensure you dodge it first, because if it hits and breaks your shield, the carried over damage will also apply Prone, requiring you to roll twice to dodge each of the senbon launched in the remainder of the attack. Then, remember that each of those strike will divide your defence modifier. So if Pale Gold and all 4 senbon hit, you apply 1/5th of your defence to each strike (remembering that 1 damage cannot be reduced, but still eats a chunk of your defence).]

Continuing to blaze toward Himiko and Kimiko in a surge of speed and power, Kumori quickly closed the distance between herself and her foes as the onslaught of attacks began to rain down on her. As the first cannonball of golden webbing rocked directly towards her chest she twisted to one side, already impressive reflexes enhanced further still by her Mantle of the Thunder God. As the first projectile shot past, near enough to ruffle her clothing, the blonde threw herself forward into an aerial walkover, narrowly slipping through the gap between the shuriken and kunai that had been launched in her direction.

As impressive as her acrobatic manevoure had been, however, it didn't leave her much time to react when the terror twins triggered their terrible trap. Lightning chakra surging through her system, she began to twist away from the projectile shooting towards her head -- and her mantle disappeared. Barely managing to bring her arm up in front of her face in time, there was an impressive thump of concussion force as it slammed into the limb, sending her crashing to the dirt just in time to take four senbon to the side.

Despite the pain, however, the speedy Sokudo didn't let herself linger for long. Turning her awkward crash-landing into a passable tumble, Kumori sprung back up to her feet, launching herself into a series of aerial kicks aimed directly towars Himiko.

Though it hadn't gone quite to plan, the twins had landed enough blows they were confident that Kumori would be out for the count. The binary star was a solid hit, a couple of the larger weapons hit, it looked like the pale gold got a blow in as the girl was knocked prone, which left her body studded with steel senbon needles. They were almost ready to declare victory when the speedy shinobi tucked into a roll, pushing back against the momentum of her mid air impact to burst towards the twins with speed far beyond any they could summon.

In a flash, Kumori was before Himiko, twisting on the spot as her heel spun through the air, a crackle of static electricity trailing behind her as she delivered a forceful roundhouse kick into the Tsuchigumo's unsuspecting head, sending her reeling from the blow. Kimiko tried to move to defend her injured sister, standing over Kumori as she sunk low into a crouch before she flashes in lighting, an arcing kick downwards which was easily turned aside by Kimiko's top most limbs, but she completely lost her focus when Kumori's other leg came wide, crashing into the nexus of her right shoulders and dropping the spider to one knee with an agonised gasp.

Kumori was way too fast, and with Kimiko barely able to move at the moment the gap between them was only going to get wider. But they were far from out for the count yet. With her left arms still at full capacity, Kimiko crafted a suite of brutally jagged spikes of golden webbing, which hardened near instantly into tools which would inflict pain similar to the larger shuriken the twins had launched at Kumori to middling effect earlier. Himiko, for her part, spat forth a huge orb of golden webbing, attached to her hand with a long white thread of web. Spinning it to generate as much speed as she could, banking on the point blank range being more than even Kumori could escape with ease, Himiko thrust the chakra filled bomb towards the gennin as Kimiko jumped backwards with all her might, sending four barbs trailing after the bomb to create another barrage of blows that hopefully would put Kumori to rest, otherwise things were going to get real grim, real fast.

This time, Kumori was ready. Landing lithely on the ground, she pivoted around on one foot and kicked with all her might, slamming her metal-clad shin dead center through the ball of golden webbing. Sure, it exploded; almost knocking her entirely off balance. Sure, it showered her in razor-sharp shards of webbing. But, she'd certainly done worse to herself before while experimenting with her own explosive techniques.

Hissing in pain as the golden spikes pierced into her, Kumori continued to press her attack, launching herself forward towards Himiko once again. Now wasn't a time for hesitation, it was a time for action! Clenching her jaw tight, Kumori once more channeled lightning chakra through her body, ignoring the rush of pain to her overstimulated nerves. Yanking the golden spikes free from her chest and shoulder, she imbued them with chakra and hurled them towards the relentless pair, silently praying it would be enough to bring them down.
