Appearance: Kiyoshi is a tall, solidly built young man heavily muscled from his time behind a forge. His hair is thick and black, often falling in a tangled mess to the sides of his sharp face. His expression is generally dependent on the kind of situation he is in, and he takes very little care to conceal his emotions. While agitated he generally has his teeth clenched, jaw set and wide eyes alight with passion. At most other times, when not consumed with something that he considers important or enjoyable, his eyes are half-lidded and his posture slouched and apathetic. His bearing is one of constant motion even in his careless persona, arms folded or stretching, always fiddling with anything that comes to hand or tapping on any surface hard enough to produce a beat. Though his choice of attire changes frequently depending on the demands of the situation, he always carries a flame-pattered red and black bandana that is most often tied around his bicep. When events become sufficiently engaging or serious he will tie it firmly around his head, signifying that he is giving his complete attention to the task at hand.

Clothing:

Casual: For the most part Kiyoshi prefers loose, airy tops, his most common covering being a simple black singlet with the Zandoran Clan emblem sewn into its back in white thread. Though the blessing of his ancestry provides him with incredible heat tolerance he does prefer full-length pants, also black, to cover the shrapnel scars on his legs acquired while learning how to operate a forge. When situations require clothing between formal and casual he simply switches his singlet for a sleeveless button-up shirt with the clan emblem on its breast and the trousers for simple black slacks or jeans.

Mission: When on a mission Kiyoshi changes into a closely form-fitting short-sleeve shirt, bereft of design or ornamentation. The heavy, cumbersome forge trousers are also replaced by lighter, more versatile long pants suited for multiple terrains and climates. This is also the only outfit that he wears his shinobi insignia on display at all times, on a metal plate sewn into the front of his bandanna.

Formal: On the rare occasions when Kiyoshi is forced into formal wear, he wears a tailored two-piece suit complete with dress shoes and tie, white shirt and the ever-present bandana tied around his left bicep. However, despite the quality of the clothes they are often worn carelessly or slightly unkempt, much like his hair and general appearance.

Personality: Kiyoshi possesses two different types of personality, one ingrained and the second learned. Naturally a fiery, brash and combative youth, Kiyoshi was forced to learn to project a quiet, meek demeanour during the NCIA occupation to avoid being arrested for practicing forbidden ninjutsu. As a result of the long time he spent under NCIA rule this personality slowly became his default state of being, despite his intuitive reactions. As a result of this forced habit he is often lethargic, subservient, meek and quiet, rarely speaking up in conversations and only to those he knows well. In this state his posture is slumped, made as small as possible and deliberately non-threatening. Despite his general weakness he retains his eye for detail and other mental faculties, being extremely attentive and just as physically able. Forcing him to accomplish a task in this manner is much easier than at any other time but due to the apathy and laziness he experiences in this state of being any task will take significantly longer to complete- though not with any loss of quality.

 

However, when roused, injured or confronted with something that is significant enough to find its way past his shell, Kiyoshi’s original personality surfaces explosively and instantly. His is conditioned to give a physical sign of this change by wearing the flame-patterned bandanna he always keeps on his person, though it is not strictly necessary. In this state Kiyoshi is aggressive, brash, hot-tempered and confrontational, outspoken and unapologetic, nearly thuggish. Compared to the meekness and humility of his servile self, Kiyoshi when roused stands tall and his expression changes to one of complete and utter focus almost bestial in nature. The only way to return him to his placid state is to remove the cause of the agitation, or end the conflict that caused the change.

 

In either state, Kiyoshi’s core values are the same. He respects strength, tenacity and loyalty and rejects failure, backstabbing and dishonesty. He holds very set values about what a man and a woman should be, though he makes little distinction in their mental prowess. He feels men should be strong, honest, fair and tough, while women should be strong in will, though not necessarily in body. Though he categorically denies it he is a bit of a pervert, though it only really comes noticeably to the fore in his aggressive persona. He also posesses a touch of insomnia, often leading to the presence of deep black bags under his eyes. Kiyoshi frequently applies kohl below his eyes to conceal the presence of these bags, also having the benefit of protecting his eyes from glare while working the fires.

Zandoran Kayano: Second child to the Zandoran clan head, Kayano was and is a prodigy of the Zandoran clan arts. An active jonin of Kirigakure and considered close to Sennin rank, Kayano spends her downtime training her genin team and occasionally undertaking solo missions for the country’s leadership. She also takes time out to train her son in the clan arts though for the most part she leaves his training to the Academy teachers. She is for the most part a quiet, homely woman with long brown hair and a frequent smile, though when roused to fury she can reach incredibly heights of malice and intimidation.

Arashi Huang: A shinobi of Kumogakure, Kayano very rarely speaks of her ex-partner but to confirm that he is deceased. He bore a striking resemblance to his son, Kiyoshi.

History:

Prologue:

To properly understand Kiyoshi’s history, you must first understand the history of his parents. Kayano and Huang were shinobi on opposite sides of the border in a time of peace between Mizu and Rai. They frequently interacted in their capacities as emissaries and bodyguards to visiting dignitaries, a relationship that eventually developed into courtship and from there de-facto marriage. While their relationship was never tacitly acknowledged by either nation, it was common knowledge among those close to the pair that they were committed to one another in all but title. For years they continued their relationship, eventually resulting in Kayano’s pregnancy and the birth of their son Kiyoshi at Kayano’s home island. This period was more taxing on them than ever before, as Kayano’s new duties as a mother often rendered her unable to leave home, and thus unable to see Huang or bring her son to meet his father. While few speak of those times with much fondness, the two were genuinely happy with each other and were on the verge of eloping, marrying legally and leaving both of their homelands, even if it meant becoming missing-nin. The only thing that kept them tied to their positions was their newborn son, unable to survive such a demanding lifestyle on the run due to his infancy. Unfortunately for them, before they could put their plan into action Kumogakure orchestrated its Blitz on the Elemental Nations and all hope of escape was lost.

 

Although Kirigakure was quickly conquered by the new Kumogakure Empire, for a time little changed for the two lovers. Huang was permanently deployed to Mizu no Kuni and spent most of his time in Kirigakure, even finally marrying Kayano a year into the occupation in 2108. Despite the war of conquest and occasional bloody battles between resistance factions and Kumogakure soldiers, the two managed to look past the conflict for the sake of their child. In spite of their best intentions, the constant aggression and underlying tension in the village slowly and consistently chipped away at their relationship. The main point of contention was and continued to be Kayano’s childhood friends and former genin team, all involved in the Kirigakure resistance. Though Kayano wasn’t involved in any attempts to weaken Kumogakure’s influence, nor did she assist her husband in his duties to capture and execute rebels.

 

While Huang was initially willing to overlook his wife’s tacit neutrality, a trait that many on both sides would eventually call treason- those from Kirigakure saw her unwillingness to support one side as a betrayal of her homeland, while those associated with her husband considered her refusal to undermine her contrymen’s struggle an equally severe betrayal of her marriage. Through the years Kayano did whatever she needed to do to protect her young son, growing up safely on the Zandoran home island where Kumogakure’s influence was weaker and the resistance less active. Though Kiyoshi only saw his parents infrequently, he was as well-protected as he could have been. The change occurred six months after their marriage when a resistance raid and assassination operation killed Huang’s immediate superior, placing him in a position of great power in the occupation of the village.

 

With the added pressures of his new position, Huang struggled under the demand to stamp out the resistance. As the Kirigakure locals grew in strength with each passing day, Huang became increasingly frantic and desperate to appease his superiors. In the end, as all other options dwindled, he broke his word and demanded that Kayano, as his wife, help him quell the growing rebellion. She immediately refused unequivocally, unwilling to give the resistance a reason to target her son in retribution. Though the effects were not felt for some time, this was the breaking point. Huang became more and more bold attempting to exploit his wife to gain an advantage over the Resistance, further and further deteriorating his relationship with Kayano with each denied request.

 

Finally, mere months after the liberation of Kusagakure and Sunagakure from the Empire’s rule, Huang heard rumours of a major resistance attack on the NCIA HQ in Kirigakure. Demanding that Kayano help him foil the attack, the couple came to blows in the middle of the night, a fight that destroyed their house and most of the surrounding dwellings. NCIA response teams arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and found Huang burned nearly beyond recognition and no sign of Kayano, living or dead. Kiyoshi vanished from the Zandoran’s home island later that morning, and only weeks later as the new year dawned Kirigakure overthrew the Empire for good, a grieving Zandoran Kayano among the vanguard of the resistance.

 

Chapter One:

During and after the Kumogakure Empire’s occupation Kiyoshi grew up in relative peace, knowing little of his parents but their names. He was taught the arts of the clan in secret by his maternal grandfather, while posing as a simple blacksmith’s apprentice, giving him ample opportunity to practice his bloodline abilities. After the village was liberated and restored, Kiyoshi moved into the Zandoran Clan compound in the village itself along with many of his extended family, all leaving the island that had seen so many of their fellows perish under the NCIA regime. He attended the Academy at his mother’s insistence, passing in a mere one year thanks to supplementary teaching from a young age by his grandparents. After passing the graduation exam he took very few shinobi assignments and trained only to maintain his bloodline abilities, instead travelling frequently between the Zandoran Isle and Kirigakure, honing his abilities inside a forge as clan tradition dictated. When his ability to create blades and weapons reached a level where his grandparents declared barely adequate he returned to active duty status to be placed on a new team.

Bloodline

Himotohai | Fire Lung
Description: Many of the clans which exist amongst the people's of Kirigakure no Sato have physiological differences with others, and some have special abilities from these different physical traits. In the case of the Zandoran, their temprokinetic ability to lessen the heat which they are hit with is not the only altered trait. There is another, the Himotohai, or in layman's terms, the 'Fire Lung'. This special organ is referred to as a lung, but it's actually a small organ tied to the lungs and breathing patterns. It is actually at the top of the mouth, and coverts breath, into blasts of fire or highly heated water if the shinobi knows how to use such jutsu, if the shinobi knows how to control this special organ to that point. This is an alteration of the temperature of the breath, and is actually catching fire of the carbon dioxide exhaled by the Zandoran. They are not harmed by it because of their bodies natural strength against high heat, and as such this makes them seem almost as if they were born of fire dragon's. This is the likely reason for the clan's name.
Effects: Upon taking this skill, the user will gain the skill ‘Subtle Elements; Fire’ for free in place of their village’s starting element. Whenever using jutsu that includes 'fire' element, or are a combination which includes the 'fire' element (up to a 3 element combination) and this skill is active, the user's ninjutsu (Or genjutsu, if used with Elemental Archetype) is considered to be Base+4X, where X is the level of user. This cannot exceed the 1.5X base stat ruling.
Upkeep: When in use, this organ takes up 2% of the user's total chakra per turn. Activated in Set-Up Phase. May be activated independently or codependently of Kazenshin.
Restriction: Must be taken at character creation, though it can be considered 'locked' until the user wishes to buy it with SP. This is an advanced system. May only be activated with Kazanshin.

Dragon's Fire

Description: Though all Zandoran clan members carry inside them the Fire Lung, some truly specialise in it's use, exercising their newest organ to the fullest. These clan members are capable of molding chakra without physical motion, expelling devastating gouts of flame without any handseals.
Effect: All [Fire] Ninjutsu used while the Advanced System 'Himotohai' is active are now Seal-less. While using Himotohai your ninjutsu statistic is increased by 6X instead of 4X.

Kazanshin | Heart of the Volcano
Description:
Before the time they were sent as guardians of the 'first user' of the 'scroll', the Zandoran were a clan of blacksmiths that lived in Mizu no Kuni, a clan that quickly learned that the best way to make weapons was to know exactly how to use them, and who picked up nindo as a result. They lived on an a highly active volcanic island which was off the coast of Mizu no Kuni as it was at the time, and because of their blacksmithing and the fact they had to deal with the heat from being near magma streams if the volcano flowed (Which it did, and often did, at that) they slowly began to gain a tolerance to heat. As a Zandoran matures, their blood exhibits a unique compound, much like solidified magma that clumps upon their skin in the reaction to active tenketsu. At first it seemed like an unfortunate defect, but with more study it was observed that this ore would regenerate even if destroyed, as long as their chakra flowed.

Rank 1 - Passive Effect: User is permanently immune to status effect 'Burned', and terrain effects involving heat, such as Lavaflow and Boiling Mud/Tar.
Rank 2 - Activated Effect: When this bloodline skill is activated, the user will gain a shield with x health. X is equal to amount of chakra paid in upkeep of this bloodline. For every turn this remains active, the user will gain an additional x hp to their shield. Shield regeneration occurs when chakra/stamina regeneration does. 

Rank 3 - Activated Effect: When this bloodline skill is activated, the user will gain a shield with 2x health. X is equal to amount of chakra paid in upkeep of this bloodline. Path and Path Skills

Path of the Defender
Description: Though few have the inner strength and willpower to do so, some shinobi are brought down a distinct path, focusing on defense, either because they do not wish to harm others, because they want to protect those they love, or because they take heart to the classical proverb, the best offense is a good defense. These shinobi-nin are often very stubborn, and also often very naturally tough.
Effect: User gains 1 extra Jutsu Point every 3rd level and gains the skill 'Savior' for free.

Garrison's Teachings (Choose Two)
Enlightened Defender:
May learn 'Guard Expertise', the first rank is free.
Unbreakable: User is capable of gaining 'Resistance Mastery' and 'Defensive Martial Artist' at the cost of 1 SP per 2 ranks.

RP Guide: A person who goes down the Path of the Defender should understand the value of a good defense. They should care about defending things (and possibly people) and this should be one of their primary goals as a shinobi- to defend people, things, or causes.

Savior
Description: Sometimes it is not good enough to be reactive, at times you must be proactive in protecting your team. The selfless action of standing in front of an attack for a teammate is the most straightforward proactive action you can take to protect someone. Though this is not solely a Medical Ninja philosophy, it is often associated to them.
Effect: Once per team battle you may choose to take an attack in place of your ally without need for any rolls. Apply all armors against this attack regardless of if it is supposed to bypass armor or not. When you take the hit, you gain a +100 to Defense. Cannot be used against Genjutsu.

Guard Expertise III
Description: The reflexes of a wild animal and the coordination to see incoming attacks, you are a mastery at keeping yourself from harm’s way.
Effect: The character receives +3 to their block range per rank.

Defensive Martial Artist IV
Description: Built like a brick sh*t house and twice as pretty.

Ex: A Genin takes -5 damage from Taijutsu attacks, a Chuunin takes -10 damage, etc.

General Skills

Stubborn Grit
Description:
Some ninja are gutsy, and some ninja are smart, and some have their own ideals that help drive them on. There are also ninja who are just too damn stubborn to die. These determined individuals don't talk a big game when things look bad, they just get pissed off and strive even harder to knock down whatever stands in their way.
Effect: This skill may be activated in any phase as a free action. Once per battle, a character with this skill may choose one of the following effects when their Health is at or below 25% of its total. This skill may not be used if the skill ‘My Ninja Way’, ‘Guts Pose’, ‘Stroke Of Genius’, or ‘Healer’s Passion’ have been activated by this character during this battle.

1. The next technique used by this character has its Chakra or Stamina costs reduced by 80%.
2. This character gains 2 charges in a chosen Taijutsu style.
3. This character gains 15% of their total Health.

Hindering Skills

Protector
Description: A Protector's love for mankind drives him to save the lives of innocents and allies alike by doing anything possible to stop an attack against them. When they see their friends being attack they can't help but make themselves a living decoy.
Effect: Whenever a non-clone ally is the target of an attack that does not include this character as well, this character gains a stacking -10% total Evasion, stacking to a maximum of -50%. This Evasion negative lasts until the character is successfully hit with an enemy attack, at which point this Evasion negative is removed.
Cost: +2

Loud Mouth
Description: A character with this skill is unable to keep his mouth shut for any length of time. Constantly talking about how wonderful he is, or what a spectacular fighter she might be, this jabberwocky gives away crucial information to the enemy. (Should be roleplayed as well.)
Effect: When entering a battle, those who take this skill must display their "Health, Stamina, and Chakra" stats and at least two of their non-academy techniques in addition to the normal stats and skills. (Cntr Clause- Two techniques that are at least their rank. If ninja does not have two techniques of their rank or higher, they may show techniques of a lower rank.)

Defender
Description: A Defender's past experiences or loving nature will not allow other's to suffer in front of them. A Defender will do anything possible to save their allies from harm, throwing themselves between their allies and enemies to do so even if they know it could kill them.
Effect: During this character's turn, if a non-clone ally is the target of an unresolved attack that did not target the user as well, this character takes the attack instead. This character may only apply 50% of their total defensive modifiers. Only triggers once per battle per ally.

Insomniac
Description: At the start of battle, this character suffers from the status effect [Tired] for two turns. When this character is inflicted with [Tired] by an enemy combatant, the status lasts for an extra turn. This may allow [Tired] to break turn limits.
Effect: Among the world's ninja there are some that just struggle to sleep. Whether from trauma, regrets, anxiety or naturally, these ninja are often slow starters and prone to bouts of sleepiness.

Type: Ninjutsu [Void | Evolving; Bunshin No Jutsu I]

Effect: This technique may be used in the Setup Phase or Main Phase. When determining the cost of this technique ‘x’ is considered to be the number of ‘Clones’ created by the user and may never be greater than 4. ‘Clones’ have 1 Health and 1% of the user’s other statistics. ‘Clones’ are not physical, and may not use items, techniques or attack during their turn. The user of this technique gains +20 Evasion or +20 Accuracy for every ‘Clone’ on the battlefield. The effects of 'Clones' may be ignored by any character with heightened senses (i.e; Byakugan, Path of the Sensor, Inuzuka Smell Tracker, etc). This technique may be used in the Setup Phase 1 time per battle.

Description: A technique that most students are required to be proficient in before they can graduate from the academy, the Bunshin no Jutsu is the most basic of the myriad of clone techniques that exist in the world. By properly molding their chakra, the user is capable of creating near perfect replicas of themselves. Unlike most bunshinjutsu, the basic clone technique does not produce physical clones but creates something more akin to a projected image, which is a real image that has no form. The Clone Technique is considered an E-Ranked jutsu, and is not very powerful, but with practice and ingenuity many shinobi have come to use it in masterful ways. Most often stalling by hiding out among their clones, or setting themselves up for a strong offensive.

Effect: This technique may be performed as a Free Action in the Response Phase following a failed dodge roll. When determining the cost of this technique ‘x’ is equivalent to the cost of 1 basic attack or weapon attack that the user failed to dodge. The damage and effects of that basic attack or weapon attack are negated. The user may take no action in the Setup Phase or Main Phase on the turn this technique is used. This technique has a 5% chance to fail. This technique may be performed 1 time per battle.

Description: A life-saving technique for most young shinobi, the Body Replacement Jutsu has been a staple in academy learning for many years. By utilizing their ability to manipulate chakra, with quick movement, a skillful shinobi is capable of switching their position with another object to evade damage. By creating a simple optical illusion, the user of the Kawarimi no Jutsu can make it appear as though they were damaged or even killed by the opponent’s attack. Some ninja become extremely adept in the usage of this technique, and have even been known to swap places with hazardous materials to trap their enemies.

Description: The user makes the hand signs while generating a portion of chakra into his fist. Slamming his fist into the ground, the chakra is injected into it to creating a minor earth tremor towards the target. The target is unbalanced while the earth crackles below their feet, created a sound equal to seismic activity.

Effect: The value of X is a number between 0 and 3, chosen when this technique is utilized. This technique afflicts one (1) turn of 'Burning: 10x'.

Description: Originally crafted as a signature technique of the Uchiha clan of Konohagakure, Gōkakyū no Jutsu has found its way into the hands of both common Konoha shinobi and further into the world at large. Though most powerful when handled by a member of its origin clan, Gōkakyū no Jutsu is a formidable and relatively easy to use technique wherein the user kneads chakra inside their body, converts it to fire, then expels flames rapidly from their mouth. Though the technique gains its namesake from a large orb shape, it is easily used as a continuous flame-thrower whose volume can be controlled through raw chakra output. The impact of this technique is not the most potent, but it easily burns away its targets and often leaves a scorched crater in its wake.

Effect: This attack inflicts ‘Destroy Weapon’ and one turn of ‘Disorganised’.
Description: Weapons are incredibly delicate items when viewed in the correct way; even the smallest imperfection can throw off an entire weapon style. By applying heat to the enemy weapon it becomes softer, bending under the weight of itself and gravity until it loses all use. The time it takes for the damage to become apparent can slow the enemy down, preventing them from recovering properly.

Description: A basic technique from the Zandoran arsenal, Equipment Combustion is designed to render an enemy’s equipment and items unusable by direct application of great heat, burning and searing the target object until it has no functionality remaining.

Description: The propensity of volcanos to shoot heavy fireballs great distances is well known; this technique seeks to emulate that by firing a large, heavy mass of fire with great kinetic force. Although not exceptionally dangerous, the shot does carry enough force to momentarily stun and encumber the target.

Description: A simple if devastating technique, requiring great strength and affinity for fire. The user summons forth lava and magma from deep underground, drawing the fires of the planet forth and allowing them to run freely across the battlefield. Depending on the amount of chakra used in this technique, the user might even generate a small volcano that will remain long after the battle’s end.

Effects: Adds 250HP to the shield created by ‘Kazanshin’. This technique may only be used twice per battle.
Description: Every Zandoran naturally creates a craggy, rocky armour that protects them in battle, spreading gradually from their tenketsu. This technique forcibly expels a large amount of steel-natured chakra from the entire body, building up the protection granted by Kazanshin as quickly as possible.

Effects: Change your appearance. A character 25+ levels above the one who uses this technique can see through it.
Description: Wrap chakra around your body to change your appearance. You take that physical form, but only to a certain extent, such as body shape and size. You cannot, for instance, turn your arm into a bow and start firing ammunition at an opponent.
