Summoner's Gambit and the Mist's Legacy! The insect-master Aburame Shiina of Konohagakure has infiltrated the Village Hidden in the Mist on a mission to steal away several of the summoning contracts in the village's possession. Hazuro, a respected member of the Kirigakure black-ops has been tasked with retrieving the stolen contracts, one of which belonging to the personal summons of his father, and disposing of the intruder by any means necessary.

The silence of the night was disrupted with the noise of troops moving around the village. Hazuro woke up. Someone was knocking on the door. He got out of bed. It was 1 AM. Why would someone knock on his door at 1 in the morning? He reached for the doorknob and opened. To his surprise, a member of the Kiri black ops was facing him. "Hazuro, you are requested by Lord Mizukage right now." He understood that something bad was going on. "Ok I got it." He ran back to his room to put on his anbu suit. He took his best katana from the armory room and ran out the front door.

 

He put his mask on and headed to the Mizukage's Pavillion as fast as he could. While he was getting there, he saw many ninjas running around the village and jumping on roofs. It didn't take long before he reached the Mizukage's Pavillion. When he arrived there, many anbu units were kneeling in front of the Mizukage in person. He joined the group and knelt down. Soon after he arrived, the Mizukage started speaking. "This night, an unidentified intruder stole several summoning contracts. The intruder has been spotted not long ago. He might still be in the village. Your mission is to bring back the summoning contracts by any means." One of the anbu units next to Hazuro gave him a list of the stolen contracts. "I count on each and everyone of you." The Mizukage raised his hand as a sign to scatter. Every anbu unit including Hazuro left the scene looking for the intruder.

 

He gave a quick look at the list of stolen contracts. He recognized one of them who belonged to his father. His fingers closed down on the paper. It was unacceptable. He put the list in one of the pockets on his black ninja sweatpants. He was jumping around the village on the roofs to have a better field of view. The main gates of the village were surely secured. He expected the intruder to leave by a secondary exit. As he was moving around, he saw the outline of a ninja on the roof of a building not far from him. They were near one of the extremities of the village. He got closer to the individual. "Hey you. Stay where you are." The ninja accelerated his pace and jumped to another roof. Hazuro followed him jumping from one roof to another until the ninja dropped down and ran towards a mountain acting as a natural gate to the village. Several trees were standing there. The ninja ran past a tree. Hazuro lost sight of him for a split second. He expected the ninja to emerge from the other side of the tree, but it looked like he had disappeared. Hazuro moved behind the tree where the ninja dissipated. "Where the hell did he go?"

 

He stomped his foot on the ground in frustration. Surprisingly, the sound it made was the sound of a foot stamping on a wooden floor. He investigated the ground below him. There was a hatch door well dissimulated by the thick vegetation around. He guessed that was how the ninja entered the village before stealing the summoning contracts. He had no idea how that hidden passage came to exist. He entered the underground passage and followed it until the end. The passage led to the other side of the mountain. Once he got out, he saw the ninja entering a forest. Hazuro engaged himself in a man hunt. Hazuro knew the forest from past missions. He assumed the intruder would try to get to the sea. He knew the quickest path to the sea through the forest. The ninja he was chasing wasn't slowing down, but Hazuro took several shortcuts. His guess was right. The intruder was indeed trying to get to the sea. He was halfway to his destination when Hazuro jumped in front of him, blocking his path. "You won't get away."

Aburame Shiina slipped through the sleepy village of Kirigakure like a phantom, intent without body. Acquiring the Summoning Contracts of the water village had been simple, their traps and guardians rudimentary at best. If such meagre sealwork was all Kiri had to offer, it was no wonder why their treasures had abandoned them over the decades. In the past he might have felt guilt for stealing one of the last vestiges of strength from a collapsing people, but if their defenses could be so easily fooled by a simple Doton then perhaps they were unworthy of the summon’s service. Of course, no matter how worthy they were it was obvious that he would find far greater use from these contracts than they would.

 

By now his presence would have been discovered and the Kiri ANBU would be mobilising. No matter; his bolthole was close by and by the time they discovered his tunnel, he would be far across the waves, out of reach. He had done something similar with Kumogakure, and before that the plateaus of Iwagakure. After the Village in the Mist his last target would be the Hanamajo Clan of Sunagakure; long had he admired their insect summons and it was time that he allowed such magnificent creatures to shine. A voice called out behind him, and his sentinel insects passed on the information they could discern of the speaker. Young, fresh. Untested. He accelerated instead, ignoring the shout. With luck, the boy would think he was another hunter-nin looking for the intruder. He darted into the woods and down into the earth, sealing the passageway behind him. Child’s play.

 

The passage emerged on the other side of the mountain, and then into the temperate forest. He moved through the trees with ease, applying years of experience flitting through the forests surrounding Konoha. He thought himself free and clear, his pursuit eluded, and when the ninja from the village appeared before him his mood soured. This whelp, outrunning him through the trees? Problematic. He would have to silence this one before he could warn the rest of Kirigakure; delay would mean even more pursuit.

 

Insects streamed from his body into the ground, using their host to avoid being seen by the hunter-nin. From behind his own mask, the Konoha ANBU surveyed his prey calmly. His insects would bar any attempt to flee, so for the moment he was uninhibited by the risk of additional pursuit.

 

Two copies of him emerged from the forest, surrounding the Kirigakure ninja. All three ninja moved in unison, the clones fading in and out of sight as they moved slowly through the trees. Voices emerged from the dark glade, spoken in the movement of tens of thousands of insects. Every remark came from a different direction, eerily alien in tone. the voice of the swarm.

 

“How very brave.”

 

“How very foolish.”

 

“We are Legion”

 

“We are one.”

 

“Without limit.”

 

“Without beginning or end.”

 

“The strongest foe cannot defeat us.”

 

“The tightest chain cannot bind us.”

 

Shiina spoke, adding his voice to the whispers for the first time. “Good luck.”

Slayer's Mark - Once per battle when making an attack, the wearer of this item may designate 1 target as a Free Action. That target may not utilize any effects in their Response Phase that would increase their Evasion statistic or grant additional dodge rolls.

Description: It is a long-standing tradition that the hunter-ninja of any given village wear masks. Some are crafted of hardened porcelain and act as armor as well as the mark of their station, and others are made of cloth designed to keep their wearer warm or cool based on the climate of their homeland. Regardless of the make of a hunter ninja's mask, it serves to hide their identity and reflect that they are nothing but a faceless predator that is honed to the very peak of their ability. The prey of these hunters rarely elude them for long.

Description: A ceremonial weapon given to Shiina by the Aburame Clan elders in recognition of his performance during the Kumogakure Chuunin Exams of  2116. Formed of black chakra metal and shaped in the form of a kikai's claw, Dendō Ansoku serves as Shiina's fallback weapon should his other resources run low.

Swimming is hard. And water is wet, and uncomfortable, and cold. Why would I learn how to swim? I mean, I can walk on water after all right? It's not like I'll ever fall in. Whatever. It's a stupid skill anyways, we were born to walk on land, not flail around pretending we're something we're not. It's unnatural.

Effect: Character may not swim in role play. Any attempt to swim results in the character needing to be saved by an outside source. This character is takes triple damage from the status effect 'Choking' when afflicted by way of water. In addition, this character is 'Afraid; 2' of all opponents when the terrain 'Water' is on the battlefield.

Defender
Effect: During this character's turn, if a non-clone ally is the target of an unresolved attack that did not target the user as well, this character takes the attack instead. This character may only apply 50% of their total defensive modifiers. Only triggers once per battle per ally.
Description: A Defender's past experiences or loving nature will not allow other's to suffer in front of them. A Defender will do anything possible to save their allies from harm, throwing themselves between their allies and enemies to do so even if they know it could kill them.

Compulsive Catch Phrase [Therefore]
Effect: The character must say their catch phrase at least once every 50 spoken words or once every 800 written words, whichever comes first. This count is kept between posts. If the character fails to meet this requirement they take a -5% reduction to all of their non-tank stats for the rest of the day, cumulative. This reduction lasts for the rest of the day in character or at least two (2) days in real life, which ever is longer. The chosen phrase must be at least one word.

Description: The character has a compulsive habit to repeat the same catch phrase over and over multiple times a day. It is borderline disease in nature, and if the character does not, or is unable to say the catch phrase so often, their morale drops subconsciously, leaving them considerably weaker. Dattebayo.

Effect: When fighting an opponent 5 levels lower than yourself, skip your turn(s) until the opponent has a turn.
Description: Some people have no interest in fighting those who are obviously weaker than them. These shinobi will turn down a fight with weaker individuals regardless of the situation and will engage only if assaulted.

Effects: Four Kikai Hives are 'deployed' during the turn in which this is used. Four additional kikai hives are deployed (during the main phase, before actions occur) each turn that this is upkept. This jutsu may not have its cost reduced by any means and may be upkept indefinitely, or until 32 Hives have been actively deployed.

Description: With a whisper of chakra and mental commands, the user of this technique sets the destruction bugs to crawling from the various orifices in the body. Usually, these are artificial wounds kept open for the express purpose of deploying the Kikai. This is considered the standard method of getting the destruction bugs out and onto the battlefield for use in various other techniques. This is the gateway to all other techniques in the secretive world of the Aburame Clan.

Insect Clones may be sacrificed to pay part of the Kikai Hive cost of a [Hijutsu; Aburame] technique used by their creator. If the number of hives required is equal to or less than the number possessed by the Clone, the technique is considered a Dynamic Trap with fulfilled conditions. Maximum of two clones may be created.

Description: Long considered one of the trump cards of the Aburame Clan, the Insect Clone gathers thousands of Kikaichu and forms them into the perfect likeness of the user. Despite being made of insects the clones are surprisingly durable, able to reform if struck or even completely destroyed. Being made of Kikaichu the clones may also sacrifice their form to assist their host, often surprising the foe when a physical foe attacks in a wave of swarming beetles.

Effect: This character gains an additional stat called "Kikai Hives", recorded beneath their tank stats; this stat is not revealed during combat. The user begins play with 5 Kikai Hives, and gains an additional 1 Hive per 10 levels. Additionally, this allows for use of techniques with the [Aburame Hijutsu] descriptor. [Aburame Hijutsu] are treated as if they dealt [Void] damage, but item effects or skills that reduce [Void]-elemental damage are only 50% effective when being applied to [Aburame Hijutsu] techniques.
Description: Upon birth, members of the Aburame Clan are entered into a contract with the Kikai, or destruction bugs. These bugs feast on the chakra of their host as a parasite, but in return the Kikai are able to be controlled with a simple thought and a surge of chakra. Within the cavities of the body of any Aburame member can be found swarms of the bugs crawling about: forever eating and breeding. The signature of the clan, the Kikai are ferociously hostile to anything that is not a host of them.

Effect: Ninjutsu from the user will deal an additional 20% base damage and cost 10% less Chakra, rounded up. This multiplier, in this case and this case only, allows you to break the base damage cap. The taker of this skill may not use Genjutsu and may not have any skills that give negative effects towards Genjutsu abilities.
Ex: 100[base Damage] * 1.2 = 120 + 100[Ninjutsu] - 80[Defense] = 140 Damage.
Description: Sometimes it takes the form as a blessing on unknown origin, sometimes as a hardened ideology crafted from an early age, and sometimes its seen as an innate ability for Ninjutsu. Regardless of its origin, the results are the same. You take to Ninjutsu techniques like a fish in water, but Genjutsu simply evades or does not interest you. Some may come to fear the power you possess, but you know that it comes at a vast cost.

Now that Hazuro was face to face with the ninja he chased, he could see that he had an ANBU mask as well. All of a sudden, the same voice was coming from all around him. Hazuro soon found himself surrounded by three of the intruder, each of them speaking one at the time in a creepy way. His enemy looked confident. 'That's not too bad, but it's not the start I was hoping for'. Hazuro hadn't seen him compose any hand seals. When did the mysterious ninja form clones? Anyway, he was almost sure that the one in front of him was the real one. There was also the possibility that the intruder used a clone to bait him in. He was going to see soon enough which one was the real one. He had a feeling that it was going to take a good amount of time for the other Kiri ninjas to find him. He hadn't left any signs indicating his location. He knew better than to underestimate his enemy. His years in the ANBU taught him that. "I hope your skills match your confidence." 

 

Hazuro needed time to think about how he was going to deal with the masked ninja. After forming several hand seals, mist arose around him, expanding and thickening within the next few seconds. The area was plunged in a average thick mist. His enemy could probably still see him partially. On his side, Hazuro was used to the mist. It didn't really affect him. His senses evolved around the mist like every ninja from Kirigakure.

As mist filled the battlefield, the two stalking figures in the trees became even more indistinct. Their forms wavered and distorted, as if their bodies were spontaneously changing to adapt to the demands of their roles. One’s arm disintegrated entirely, transforming from seeming flesh into a roiling torrent of thousands of insects. The swarm rushed at Hazuro, intending to bludgeon him with thousands of bodies. Any insects that survived the impact would sting and bite, crawling into his eyes, nose and mouth to keep his attention away from Shiina’s true self.

 

The second clone shrank, as if it had somehow lost nearly half of its mass. The insects that had composed that clone delved underground, tunnelling beneath the surface to create a series of pitfall traps under the surface.

When an enemy steps on the concealed insects the trap activates, dragging the victim into a shallow pit and immobilising them.

A Kirigakure ninja summing mist to the field of battle. Predictable, in many ways. The sentinel he had briefly fought had done much the same and his tactics then had been effective. Therefore, the same techniques would be effective here. “I will demonstrate my confidence,” he murmured, smiling underneath his mask. His hands blurred together as he weaved two separate sets of seals in quick succession, betting that between his and his clone’s onslaught the young Kiri ANBU would have nowhere to go. Even if the mist made it difficult to locate his target, there was a simple answer: saturation bombardment.

 

“I am the greatest summoner alive,” he hissed, stepping into the mist. “And my claim of being Legion was no falsehood. Allow me to show you why. Kuchiyose: Sen Hachisasare no Jutsu! With bursts of smoke instantly hidden by the mist, Shiina flexed his chakra and summoned three distinct clouds of finger-length bees and wasps. Cannon fodder for the Royal Hornets, but together they could cover a greater area and find his hidden hunter. He still had his true summons ready for combat if he needed them, but he preferred not to disturb his allies if their presence wasn’t necessary. Time would tell.

 

The moment his summoned allies located Hazuro, he would unleash his second jutsu. A simple technique he’d picked up at the Chuunin Exams, the Splinter Shot was five beams of concentrated chakra that curved through the air to strike true. Neither technique was his strongest, but ideally they would buy him enough room that he could slip away and leave his clones to run interference.

Now that mist filled the small battlefield, it was time to take action. But before Hazuro had any time to act, two pincers made of insects emerged from the mist on one of his side. The attack was easy to dodge. Hazuro jumped a few steps back to avoid it.

'An insect user, interesting.' He had never fought an insect user before, but he had heard of it. Soon after he dodged the attack, the clone backed up and he could hear the intruder speaking. Small black spots were appearing in the mist. There were hundreds of them. 'What the hell is that?' One of the black spots came at a high speed passing at a few centimeters from his face. He followed it with his eyes diverting his view from what was coming. After the first one, a multitude of others were coming at him. He quickly realized the black spots were in fact bees. A good part of his body was protected from the bees by a basic ANBU armor. In the end, only 3 hit him. One was planted in his left forearm, one in his right leg and one in his left hand. He took them out one by one. His enemy was smart, using the clones to trap him in a wide attack to counter the lack of vision due to the mist.

 

A few seconds after he pulled out the stings of the bees, he felt something weird in the parts of the body touched. 'Is this poison?'. From the same direction that the bees came, a blue stream of chakra appeared. Hazuro jumped on the side at the last second, but the chakra beam split in 5 parts. Two of them continued in the same direction and missed while two deviated from their initial trajectory and hit Hazuro and he blocked a third one with the bracers on each of his forearms. He landed on both of his feet and sled on the muddy ground for a meter. Fortunately for him, the intruder didn't use his strongest abilities off the bat. 'I'll get rid of these clones first.' The clones weren't really threatening, but it was giving a strategic advantage to the enemy.

 

Hazuro unsheathed the katana with his right hand. "Time to get serious." He wasn't going to use any of his techniques yet. His kenjutsu alone was going to be enough to beat the clones.

He could tell his attacks had done significant damage, but now that he had his foe’s measure it was time to end this charade and make good his escape. As far as he was aware the mist had camouflaged exactly which copy of him was real, and to reinforce the notion he darted into the path of the hunter-nin’s blade, catching the downstroke on his reinforced longcoat and forearm guard, easily deflecting the kirigakurian steel. He blurred with speed and directed all of his allies to swarm his foe, even dissolving his other clone to bring in every last insect he could muster. The second stroke of the blade would likely have destroyed it anyway, and this meant that he would draw every bit of strength he could from his hives. From beyond the stoic façade of his mask, an equally blank voice issued forth. “It seems you are more foolish than brave. You are not my equal. Therefore, you should never have attempted to stop me. Goodbye, foolish hunter-nin.”

 

One hundred thousand insects descended on Hazuro from all sides, flowing through threes, from above, from below. From every side, lunging for anything they could reach. They would pour into his mouth, his ears, his nostrils. Even his eyes were targets, to be clogged with dead bodies if necessary. This one would come to fear the swarm.

Hazuro ran as fast as he could with the katana held in his right hand towards the first clone. After raising the katana above his head, he swung with all his strength. Just when the katana was about to touch the clone, the real intruder deflected it with his guarded forearms. The power of the strike didn't seem to have an effect on him. 'Damn it' Hazuro turned back looking for the other clone, but the second clone had disappeared. Then he heard the intruder talking. That type of provocation usually didn't work on him, but he had to admit he was in a bad position. 'Keep calm, keep calm.' He took a deep breath. As soon as the intruder stopped speaking, his arms transformed in two pincers of insects and he rushed at Hazuro. 'It's the same technique that he used earlier.' Hazuro was about to jump out of the way, but from the corner of his eyes he could see little insects crawling and sneaking from behind.

 

Before he had any more time to react, the insect user reached him at an incredible speed. Hazuro was touched. The pincers pierced through his ANBU suit at the level of his abdomen. He uttered a cry of pain. He could feel that the attack had done some serious internal damage. The pincers of insects disappeared. He had dropped his katana on the impact and had his hands over the wound. He was surrounded. Insects were coming from everywhere. He couldn't see any solution. 'Is this the end? I have to try one last time.' "It's not over yet." He used his chakra to jump up. He formed several hand seals while in the air. "Suiton; Daisuisen."

Water was gathering and rotating around his hand. When enough water was gathered, Hazuro was going down aiming his right arm at Shiina. It was difficult to hold his hand in the right direction because of the weight of the water he gathered.

OOC: Mist is still in effect. The turn you bring mist doesn’t count, so it was one turn after you used the sword attacks, two turns after the drill and after your next main phase it dissipates.

 

The lone surviving Insect Clone remained motionless, ignoring the sword stroke that had so severely wounded its brother before its assimilation. It, like its counterpart, existed to serve it creator. The insects that comprised the mute clone had been busy, burrowing underground using their hunger for chakra to direct them. Directing such a force was uncertain at best, but if they were accurate enough then they could drop the attacking Mist-ninja into a pit for the creator do deal with at his leisure. Wings rustled, and if one listened very carefully they may have heard an amalgamation of sounds that together sounded like “Otoshiana.”

When the Kirigakure ninja refused to fall under his swarm, Shiina had to admit he respected the hunter’s tenacity. Nonetheless, his struggles were becoming more and more ineffective. He knew the look in the ninja’s eye, even though the ANBU mask. A look of desperation, of drawing and playing the most deadly threat he possessed in the hopes of clinching victory. But as powerful as the water drill was, it was slow and cumbersome. He should easily be able to evade the attack, but this was his chance to seize victory completely and utterly. For a moment he considered meeting the ninja’s attack head-on, shattering it and the native ninja’s hopes for victory in one stroke. But as tempting as it was, he hadn’t survived because of a propensity to take risks. As the great drill descended he stepped forward, he stepped into the attack, ducking inside the cumbersome weapon’s range and behind the ninja as he finished the attack. He lifted an arm and again insects emerged from his sleeve like a dark cloud. This time they arranged themselves into a binding chain, aiming to tie the young ninja’s legs. “Foolish indeed. Whatever reason you have for engaging me in this hopeless battle, you would have been wise to abandon it. These contracts are mine.”

For a second, Hazuro thought he was going to hit the water drill directly on the masked man, but at the last second, the intruder ducked and dodged the attack. 'Dammit'. He really hoped it would hit, but he knew the technique wasn't the most accurate. The drill hit the ground instead and created a crater. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he saw insects coming out of the ground. Before any insect reached him, he jumped to the side. He was fully focus on every movement he was making as he knew he couldn't take many more hits. He wasn't feeling the pain from the last attack anymore. He was in a state of full alertness and adrenaline was flowing through his body. Meanwhile, Shiina had already prepared his next attack. Hazuro heard him and turned himself to face him. Hazuro knew that the fight would continue until one of them will die. There was no way around it. Reinforcement was going to take a lot more time than expected to come. A large amount of insects were coming out of his sleeve forming a binding chain. It was aimed at his legs. He had very little time to dodge the attack. As soon as he saw the insects coming for his legs, he concentrated chakra in his legs to jump back quickly. The binding chain of insects almost touched him when he jumped back making a back flip and landing on his feet.

 

Just when he thought he was out of trouble, he saw the same blue stream of chakra coming in his direction. 'Not again.' He knew how it worked. It didn't surprise him when it split in five streams. He jumped back performing a barrel to dodge some of the streams. Two of them still hit him, but it was nothing serious, only scratches.

'I have to find a way to take him by surprise.' Hazuro was about ten meters away from Shiina. With one knee to the ground, he quickly performed a set of seals. It was one of his last hopes. His opponent had many more tricks up his sleeves.

OOC: I wanted to demonstrate a summoning just so you'd see how it worked, but the dice said no. Sorry.

 

Shiina frowned as the mist receded to reveal the hunter-nin still standing despite attacks that had moments ago proven highly successful, and a swell of water from behind caused him to stumble. He gritted hit teeth in irritation. This needed to end. If he remained longer he would be found and hunted to the ends of the earth. He couldn’t risk leading Kirigakure back to Konoha, not with the stolen summoning contracts in his possession. He flashed through a chain of handseals and unleashed his limiters. Heedless of how irritated the elder Hornets would be at his summoning so many of their foot soldiers, he drew deep into his chakra and summoned an army of warrior bees, twice the number that he had previously deployed. His own insects answered his call, sweeping outwards in a devastating wave from which there was no escape. No matter how swift or hardy his foe was, this would be the end. “You impress me, hunter. But I will no longer allow your efforts to succeed. Therefore, your end will be swift. Die here.”

Description: Upon birth, members of the Aburame Clan are entered into a contract with the Kikai, or destruction bugs. The eddy of water hit Shiina. Hazuro was ready to go forward and follow with Retribution | Houfuku, but his enemy was faster than him. Before he had any time to approach his opponent, a horde of bees were summoned. He already took three hits of those and it was surprisingly hurting. He tried to run out the way, but he stumbled and fell down. His body was already tired from all the hits he took. As he saw the bees getting closer and closer, he knew he was going to die. It was pointless to try to escape. 'The only thing I can do, is face death like a real ninja.' He gathered his last forces to get back on his feet and took every bee coming in his way. He dropped on his knees. The pain didn't matter anymore. He knew it was all going to end in a few seconds. The insect user's final attack was coming. Hazuro clenched his fists in frustration. 'My death will be in vain.' Even if by miracle he survived, he wouldn't dare look his father in the eyes anymore. The insects that emerged from Shiina soon reached him. His body's vital functions had already shut down. Once the swarm of insects moved away, the only things left on the battlefield was Hazuro's dead body and the katana.
