The Enemy Within

Nanukazuki-kumi | Round 1

In a world in which Konohagakure has been locked in war with Sunagakure for over five years, a 17 year old Nara Shikahiro finds himself burdened with a mission that carries the weight of the village's future. The Yamanaka clan has been compromised by one of its own, none other than Yamanaka Minoko, sister of Yamanaka Suika. Minoko has stolen information that if gathered by the enemy will lead to the death of dozens of black ops shinobi on critical missions. You've managed to corner her in the depths of the ANBU facility below Konoha, but a 21 year old Yamanaka Suika refuses to simply allow the Nara to take her sister. If the girl is able to reach above ground she will be able to telepathically send the stolen data to the enemy.

"Get out of the way, Suika..."

The Nara's words hung in the air, punctuated by the drip of a leaky pipe somewhere overhead. In the gloom, the most Shikahiro could really make out of the woman in front of him was her bright, blonde hair, which seemed to shimmer and amplify the light around it. The fact that she was pretty wasn't going to deter him though, not while her sister was on her way to divulge state secrets to the enemy forces. It was unknown just how Minoko had been compromised, but that's what the young intelligence officer had been instructed to do. Apprehend her without claiming her life if possible, but why her sister had come to her defense was beyond him.

"Be cool about this, I'm not here to kill your sister, but lives hang in the balance. She has to be stopped." He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, watching the girl in front of him, wondering just how far she was willing to take this, and whether or not her loyalties had changed too.

Quote

Compulsive Catchphrase; Cool
Effect: Characters with this skill must say their catch phrase at least once every 50 spoken words or once every 800 written words, whichever comes first. This count is kept between posts. If the character fails to meet this requirement they take a -5% reduction to all of their non-tank stats for the rest of the day, cumulative. This reduction lasts for the rest of the day in character or at least two (2) days in real life, which ever is longer. The chosen phrase must be at least one word.
Description: The character has a compulsive habit to repeat the same catch phrase over and over multiple times a day. It is borderline disease in nature, and if the character does not, or is unable to say the catch phrase so often, their morale drops subconsciously, leaving them considerably weaker. Dattebayo.
Cost: +2

Unmotivated
Effect: Characters with this skill must train for an additional 2 posts, when training for techniques, jutsu points, or skills.
Description: Some ninja don’t do well when left to their own devices. No matter how skilled they are, they don’t have the motivation to train as hard as they could if they had somebody there to psyche them up. In groups though, these ninja are able to perform just like any other shinobi.
Cost: +1

Sealed Genjutsu
Effect: Characters with this skill may not use Genjutsu techniques.
Description: Some ninja lack the ability to use certain types of jutsu. Genjutsu is a very demanding field of jutsu and takes an incredible amount of concentration and chakra control to do well. Without those traits, performing genjutsu well is almost impossible.
Cost: +2

Lonely
Effect: Characters with this skill reduce Experience gained when training alone by 50%. Characters with this skill may not take missions alone.
Description: Some people can go through life relying only on their own strength of will, facing off against the world by themselves. Others, like those with this skill, are eternally desperate for companionship and find the idea of operating on their own as demoralizing as they do terrifying. They feel a constant, codependent need for a companion, or something like it that they can see, feel, and touch in order to cope with everyday life, finding even antagonistic company preferable to isolation. While these individuals often have a solid grasp of teamwork, they are often woefully unprepared for situations in which they must act by themselves for an extended period of time.

Of course. It had to be Shikahiro. The git never knew when to leave well enough alone. He had always been the type to simply follow orders without understanding the meaning behind them, and probably didn't even know that he was merely a patsy, being used like a piece on a chessboard to dispose of yet another of her sisters. They'd already come up with excuses to get rid of the rest of their family, it was probably only a matter of time until the Hokage had her hunted down too for some trumped up charge. Of course, trying to convince him of any of that would be pointless. He'd probably have been informed of how they would try to trick him, mislead him into making misinformed choices that would lead to the deaths of innocents. It was an old track, the villages had always been masters of propaganda.

"Yeah, like you weren't going to kill Saya or Kaya, or the others, and then they all ended up dead anyway, right? Lives do hang in the balance, and it's not her fault. Minoko may be an insufferable bitch, but she's my sister, and I'm not giving her over to the Hokage for execution without so much as a trial like the others. The blood will be on your hands." Suika grit her teeth at the Nara's threatening change in posture. This was... this was hopeless. She knew Shikahiro too well to think she had a chance of stopping him if he tried to force his way through, but what choice did she have? Minoko was all she had left, even if she had wished far too many times to have been rid of her for good. But not like this. Never like this.

"It's not too late to turn back. I'll keep an eye on her, keep her from doing anything stupid. It doesn't have to be like this."

While she understood that it was a shinobi's duty to fight, this one was meaningless. Not the least because the outcome was predetermined, but neither of them could turn away from their path. Despite knowing that... perhaps because she knew that, Suika sent a light jab in Shikahiro's direction. It wouldn't hurt, but that was part of the message, too. She had never done anything that had hurt him. It simply wasn't in her. She didn't believe that it was in her sister, either.

The Nara accepted the blonde woman's punch, letting his press into the chunin vest he wore. It seemed as though his ancestral ally didn't have the kind of resolve to really attack him. He simply sighed and shook his head before taking a step back away from the girl.

"We're at war, Suika... there's already blood on my hands." Shikahiro had long ago abandoned the care-free and lackadaisical demeanor that had been a part of him as a child. He had been hardened by the fires of combat, into a cunning strategist and military mind. Though he wasn't the strongest shinobi in Konohagakure's employ, he had quickly made himself indispensable to the Hokage, as so many Nara clansmen had before him. "If Minoko takes what she knows to the other side then it will result in the deaths of so many of our operatives. Kazuto is ANBU, Suika. He's out there right now... what if it's his information she's carrying into the hands of our enemies?"

It probably was not very fair of him to use her lover against her like this, but he was far better at strategy than fighting, and he didn't particularly want to hurt Suika. In truth, if Kazuto had known what was going on, he probably would have taken the Yamanaka's side. He tended to be more devoted to his own relationships than to his village... but his image would suffice to weaken Suika's resolve. Hopefully.

Just in case that didn't work, Shikahiro folded his arms behind his back. It was an innocent looking gesture, but in truth he'd made the 'rat' handseal out of her sight, letting a small tendril of shadow snake its way toward her. He didn't have to defeat Suika... just detain her long enough to get to her sister.

• Kagemane No Jutsu | Shadow Imitation Technique | 影真似の術
Type: Ninjutsu [Void | Hijutsu; Nara ]
Rank: Chūnin
Cost: 150 Chakra
Effects: The user may end this jutsu during their Set-up Phase or Response Phase as a free action. During this jutsu the user may not use any other jutsu or perform any Main Phase actions except those which require “Kagemane no Jutsu” to be active. This jutsu’s maximum duration is 3 turns.

For the duration of the jutsu the target has their Evasion set to 0 and the user loses 25% of their total Evasion. At the start of each of the target’s turns, they will roll a D(100 - E), where E is the difference between this jutsu's hit chance (when it succeeded) and the target's dodge roll to evade this jutsu. If no dodge roll was made against this jutsu, their dodge roll is considered to have been 0. The target will then proceed with their turn according to the following:

1-20: Target can take no actions this turn.
21-40: Target can take actions that do not involve the legs, but all actions have a 50% Fail Chance.
41-60: Target can move normally, but all actions have a 30% Fail Chance.
61-75: Target can move normally, but suffers from “Distracted” during this turn.
76+: Target breaks free of Kagemane, and this jutsu ends.

Description: ”If the body’s reflection is the shadow, then is the shadow’s reflection not the body?” - Nara Proverb
The user, long trained in the art of manipulating their own shadow through chakra, will stretch and swell their shadow however is necessary in order to get it to touch the opponent’s shadow. Immediately once connection is made, the user’s shadow will flow into the enemy’s, causing the user to take possession of it through chakra. The user will then move their body, and as their shadow moves, the user’s chakra that has synched with the opposing shadow will force it react in a similar fashion. Ultimately, this means that the enemy will be forced to obey the laws of existence, moving in an exact mirror of the user.

"War, huh? That's a pretty convenient excuse to try and get rid of anyone you don't like." Suika sighed. There was no point in continuing this conversation any further than they already had, Shikahiro wasn't about to just start listening to reason. Though she highly doubted that she could defeat him if it came to open combat - she... sort of doubted she'd even want to. Hadn't their clans always been friends? - she could do something more important than that. Something else their clans shared in common; buying time.

"She wouldn't betray us, and you know it. She wouldn't do that to me, to him. It's gotta be some kind of misunderstanding!" There was no point in saying it, but... there was no point in anything if doing nothing meant losing everything. No. Focus. Shikahiro had already made up his mind, the little shit, and he'd probably be trying to do something sneaky while distracting her. The fact he was hiding his hands was further proof of it. No shinobi would enter a possible combat situation with their hands behind their backs if they weren't planning something slimey.

At least he was notoriously slow. In an instant, Suika circled around to the indomitable Nara's back to find exactly what he was up to. Unsurprisingly, the Nara's signature jutsu lurched for where she had been a moment before, missing her by simple nature of her no longer being where she had been before. Intent on keeping him from using the blasted thing again, Suika thrust her hands knifehand style into a series of ultimately harmless but supremely annoying interruptions, striving to interject them between the slower Nara's hands in an attempt to prevent him from forming additional handseals. It probably wasn't something that would work, or not for very long once he learned the timing to intercept her, but every moment counted, as  they both well knew.

Shikahiro's deadpan stare spoke volumes of how he felt about the girl's attack. He wasn't going quickly, and he wasn't interested in really hurting her, but he had a job to do, and if she continued to keep up with what she was doing he would have no choice but to treat her as if she were an enemy as well. "Suika... what if she's being manipulated? You know the village will do everything that it can to try and do everything that it can to figure out what happened to her without hurting her."

More of those slaps at his hands. The Nara swallowed and sighed softly before returning his hands to the front of his body and making the seal of the rat once more. The Kagemane no Jutsu would be a good way to trap her, and keep the girl in check without having to do any serious damage. "How about you cool your jets, and help me, Suika?" He asked as a shadowy tendril snaked out to try and snare her by her own shadow. "You've got abilities that would be perfect for extracting juts why your sister had stolen that information, without having to hurt her."

The scarred man wasn't pleased with having to play at being a hunter-ninja, but he had been chosen because he knew the Yamanaka clan well and could use that knowledge to counter their secret techniques. Which were apparently little slaps.

No go. Not surprising. Shikahiro wasn't even sporting enough to humor her with a wisecrack about it. What a bore. Well, not everyone could be as vivacious as her friends were. There had to be sticks in the mud to make the world go around. All in all, she didn't think Shikahiro was a bad guy. Just following the orders of one. A punchclock villain at worst. Hell... from his perspective, she might have seemed the same. Just a delusional idiot who didn't really understand what was going on. That was the way the Kages liked to leave everyone. Just confused enough that they'd never really know anything actually important, but just informed enough that they could manipulate them to act the way they wanted to. She didn't really want to fight him, but what choice did she have?

"If you were interested in cooperation, you wouldn't be slinging your shadow about like that. I know I'm not as smart as you are, but I'm not that dumb." But damn,  had Shikahiro grown up. He was getting better, the crafty little bugger, and she was barely able to dance away from his shadow in time to avoid being ensnared. With a sigh, Suika reached into her pocket. A rapid, staccato rhythm broke up the quietude of the facility, which... had been rather concerning, really. Where were the others? Where had her sister gotten to, anyway? Could... could Shikahiro have been right?

No.

Though Shikahiro was an unfavourable opponent for her, it wasn't at all for the reason that the higher ups might have thought. Unlike her sisters, she had no talent at all for the clan's traditional arts. She'd pursued something else, instead, and if her 'silly slaps' hadn't been an indication, what came next would be. She'd been made fun of and mocked for her specialty, but she'd rarely had such an accomodating punching bag to work up to her full momentum with. Well, a punching bag that was actively trying to freeze her in her steps, maybe. Mixed in with feints and her own evasive movement, Suika began to strike back... a little harder.

Dropping her balance to one hand, Suika pushed off, launching herself to leapfrog over the Nara at high speed, twirling horizontally in midair for two rapid aerial kicks. On landing, she pivoted around the Nara's stretching shadow and continued her counterattack, sliding her leading leg forward to press inwards against his feet before pivoting again, allowing her receding arm to sweep around in a backhand as she spun around again, this time to gain some more distance before she was caught by his Kagemane for... well, literally dancing circles around him. That would be way too predictable to continue for long, and being predictable against a Nara was as good as signing your own death warrant. Fighting this close to him was uncomfortable enough as it was, but she simply didn't have the chops to reverse their positions like a proper Yamanaka might... that was probably why they'd aimed for her sisters first, she was hardly a threat as she was now.

Though it would likely be ineffectual for now, she had always been patient when it came to getting into her groove, and Suika maintained her momentum with a series of short, quick movements that would allow her to adjust on the fly to continue with evasion or continued attack. She'd find an opportunity to break this off... somehow. For now, she just had to avoid that Kagemane for long enough for her fists to find their way to Shikahiro's face. Well, he'd probably get serious about this now too, which would probably be rough, but it was better than a futile stalemate like they'd encountered so far.

* Bebop Style
Description: Some intimates of battle have described a fight as a dance, a clash of two highly trained opponents trading blows to the death. Their movements and flow creating a symphony of movement and skill. The Bebop Style is an extraction of this concept- albeit a very literal one. The disciple of this style uses the beats of their music to clear their mind and accent their movements in the heat of battle. While enveloping themselves in the beats of a song, they can move without thought and strike in an almost hypnotic style. The style is extremely unorthodox, but a student of it can become extremely deadly in their own right. Most people underestimate this style because the user of it looks as if they are beat dancing the entire time they are using it, from small movements of the shoulders to full out shuffle dancing in between blows.
Effect: A player must have a music playing item in their possession (minimum cost of ¥20). Music must be continually played while charges are active. If music is stopped at any point, or the user is rendered unable to hear the music, all charges are lost. User may use their Setup Phase to change the style of music they are listening too. Beat Charges are gained whenever a Bebop Style attack hits the opponent with an additional charge being generated the turn after a successful attack is landed. May never generate more than two (2) charges in a turn. The user may spend charges in the following ways and only when the associated type of music is playing...
• Breakbeat - The user may spend x Beat Charges in their Setup Phase in order to give themselves +40x Taijutsu for the next two turns. May never have a total bonus higher than 200 Taijutsu.

Shikahiro was an extremely analytical person. Like most people, he had some capacity for creativity, but it rarely came in the form of fine arts. When Suika kicked on the blaring music the Nara wrinkled his nose in obvious distaste. Oof, and in this tunnel the sound reverberated from all of the different walls in a thunderous cacophony that seriously damaged his ability to think. "Suika, this is a dirty tri-." This was not the attack, he quickly realized as she sprang over top of him, and delivered a pair of kicks that he had in no way been prepared for. They hit him solidly, sending him slamming into the wall of the tunnel.

The sound of air being forced from his lungs overtook the "song" for a fraction of a second, but then Shikahiro rallied. He brought his arms up to defend against her attacks. The wall served as a backdrop, making him immovable, and allowing him to use his arms to ward away the better part of her damage from the other attacks. Those first too would have been doozies had it not been for his vest. He was certain to have a bruise.

Suika darted back away from him, in a hit and run sort of style. That served him just fine. As long as she gave him a few seconds at a time, he could keep his shadows moving in that deadly dance that would eventually pull her into his trap, and leave her at his mercy.

"Unlike someone I could name, I don't use dirty tricks." Suika didn't bother to elaborate further; it was hardly necessary to say more than she already had. While it seemed like these attacks were more effective than the ones she'd used before, it still wasn't enough to strike to his core.

She'd just have to keep hitting him. Man, it sounded like she was some kind of villain when she put it that way, but it wasn't like their situation would be terribly different if it was reversed. The Nara were excellent artists of torture, and she had no doubt whatsoever that Shikahiro would hold back from forcing her to submit through force. It was like he'd said, it was wartime. They couldn't afford to hold back just because their target was a face they recognized, or that their families had been friends.

Damn, this sucks a big one. Why'd you have to put me in this position, sis? There wouldn't be an answer to her mental query, though. Unlike Saya and Kaya, Suika and Minoko had never had a close mental bond. There was only the ever thickening ties of blood as more and more was spilled in vain.

Suika briefly considered attacking from a distance - preferably outside of the reach of Shikahiro's shadow - but knew that strategy would ultimately prove futile. She didn't have the firepower to beat him from afar any better than she did up close, and she wouldn't be able to take advantage of the differences in their movement speed like that. Instead, stepped in around Shikahiro's shadow in a blur again, snapping a double roundhouse kick in his direction to bring his guard high. Dropping into a crouch from her landing, she performed a half-spinning backhand strike towards his knees before popping her feet up to kick off his torso - or the wall, if he'd moved out of the way by now - to gain another moment's escape from being painfully close to the Nara's shadow. She didn't think she could last for long like this, but... that just meant she had to gain enough momentum to make Shikahiro crack before she did.

Making Shikahiro crack was going to prove no easy task. The Nara had witnessed her combat style once already and now that she had built up the momentum to begin attack, he was prepared to more easily defend against her. Unlike a normal opponent, Nara clansmen were capable of directing the way in which an enemy attacked in a manner that put them at a disadvantage, especially taijutsu specialists. He kept the tendrils of shadow around him moving, making sure she could only attack from areas that he allowed to be open.

Each of the girl's attacks were met with the palms of his hands or his hard forearms. Though she struck him, Shikahiro did his very best to prevent her from actually dealing any kind of lasting damage. It was clear that he was not fighting against her with all of his might. "Suika... seriously. I don't want to try and hurt you or your sister. I just can't let her go off to Sunagakure and give away the positions of our ninja!"

He curled two-fingers over the fingers of his hands again to redirect his shadows once more. Once he managed to get her squirmy ass caught in a shadow-bind he could easily take care of the slender woman, but because of her familiarity with his clan's techniques that was proving more than a little bit difficult.

So Shikahiro wanted to play mind games, did he? The Nara were always so confident when it came to those, but while they could probably solve any kind of logic puzzle or difficult challenge like no-one else could - they had a tendency to be crazy smart, and their training only enhanced that -  it was the Yamanaka who understood people. He knew that she would have to approach in order to successfully strike him, but the reverse was also true - she knew that he would try to lead her into a conventional, obvious opening where he could take advantage of her predictable route and respond accordingly, because most opponents would take it in an effort to defeat an irritating opponent. A shadowbender was definitely that.

Not happening, friend.

Switching her music with a short, fleeting movement that might have even been mistaken as a part of her normal maneuvering, the Yamanaka's green eyes narrowed with focus. Despite that, from the easy flowing movements from her shoulders and hips, almost as if everything she was doing was in fact one flowing routine and not an impromptu collection of high-speed responses, it was quite clear that she was relaxed in this environment.

"Stopping that is my job as her sister, so butt out. I've got this."

Baiting his shadow with a rush, Suika faked a pivot around to Shikahiro's side where an opening had been left - no, not yet. Increasing her speed and honing every inch of the muscles that had been honed by a lifetime of dance, Suika reversed her movement and faked again to the opposing side. Psych. There was no way that Shikahiro would fall for something that easily. Instead, she backed off with a quick hop that allowed the Nara's shadow to stretch out in following her, before driving herself like a missile from the hallway's wall to Shikahiro's blindside. Well, it couldn't be truly called his blindside, as the boy had his back to the wall, but for the Nara that held an entirely different meaning - to the side opposite his stretching shadow, the real threat in this fight.

In the span of that lightning quick movement, she drove her left knee towards his armored torso in a knee strike andfollowed up with a snapping short kick as she utilized the rebound - either from the Nara or the wall, should he have decided to finally evade - to transition to a half cartweel with a sharp pair of vertical kicks before sweeping herself just outside the immediate reach of his returning shadow. Of course, the longer this took the closer he came to capturing her, regardless of how she shifted her fighting style, but perhaps the unnatural  levels of bodily control that went into the maneuvers of this particular aspect of her style would be sufficiently jarring after the wild, freewheeling breakbeat before.

It was not that the Nara relished the idea of manipulating the blonde girl. He needed her to understand that he was not the one with bad intentions, and that it as her sister who was going to get people hurt if she was allowed to continue forward with her plans. Shikahiro rolled his eyes as the song switched over to something that was equally unpleasant to his ears. Perhaps the music was why he wasn't performing at his peak efficiency. Normally he would have had her snared up tightly and immobilized. What he'd do with her after he caught was a problem for then.

"Fine then, seeing as you're determined not to be cool about this, I suppose I'll have to actually get serious." He'd been being fairly serious before, considering he was hunting a fugitive, but now he was ready to hurt Suika if he had to.

The Yamanaka girl wasn't a bad fighter, but she was  playing just as the tactician with the pineapple haircut intended her to. Anywhere he left his shadow open was where she attacked. Her kicks were beginning to smart a little bit, and he was tired from running all this way though, so naturally his dodges weren't great. He still managed to deflect most of the damage from the blonde girl's attack, and even ducked low beneath one of them as she cartwheeled away.

That was when he struck out with his shadow, lashing out to snare her by the hand or foot and pin their shadows together, trapping her and likely ending their little battle.

... Yup. That last attack had been a little too ambitious. Suika sighed as her foot touched down lightly, preparing to leap backwards before... jerking to a stop. It seemed that Shikahiro's shadow was pretty flexible down here, which wasn't that surprising. The lighting in this place was practically set up to be to the Nara's natural advantage, this was his home turf after all. She just hadn't been good enough. Well, she'd known that from the start.

"You're so full of it, Shikahiro. Trying to pretend you weren't serious from the start is a laugh. Nobody goes straight to the Kagemane if they aren't going for the win." Gritting her teeth, Suika tried to jerk her hand to the pouch containing her equipment, but the resistance from the Nara's shadow was too strong. Little... ugh. What a pain.

Jerking forward with great effort, knowing that the Kagemane could be beaten even if it seemed impossible, Suika snapped a pair of quick punches towards her would-be... well, current... captor. It went without saying that she couldn't go without resisting at all after having come this far. It was almost certain that Shikahiro would follow up with one of his clan's torture techniques after all, and Suika had been on the receiving end of those in practice before. She didn't relish the idea of experiencing them for real again.

Her attempt to follow up with a snap kick was met with abstinant refusal from her shadow, and Suika clicked her tongue before finishing it off with another punch. It was all she could do for now, but there was no way she wasn't going to fight this to the end. If she could just break out of Shikahiro's bindings she'd have a lovely present waiting for him as thanks for his 'hospitality.'

Shikahiro watched as Suika made a few feeble attempts to struggle against his Kagemane now that the Shadow Imitation Technique had actually taken hold of her. It was actually quite impressive that she was able to fight against it at all. He could see his shadow's strength growing on her though, making it harder and harder to move as the technique took full effect. He didn't both to get out of the way of her struggling attacks. No, moving too much would make it difficult to keep her locked down.

"Just relax," He said softly, as he made a performed a second set of handseals, "I'm just gonna knock you out, okay? Nothing permanent... no torture. Just need you to go to sleep so that I can catch your sister." Shikahiro said through dry lips, watching as the cold, grasping hands of his shadow slid up her body toward her neck where they began trying to squeeze at her throat, cutting off the bloodflow there.

"Just go to sleep."

All the squirming around might've seemed futile from an outsider's perspective, but the Ino-Shika-Cho clans knew each other's strengths better than anyone else possibly could. They had built upon one another for generations, covering for one another's weaknesses, capitalizing on their strengths. Becoming greater than the sum of their parts. Suika had never had the talent to ever join in on that legacy, but it had not been for lack of effort, training daily in order to reach those lofty heights that seemed forever beyond her reach.

"No."

It was a single word, laden with defiance, but it matched the beat of her song perfectly. Just as she always did. Rhythm was in her blood. Movement was in her blood. She would not be stilled, and she would not sit down and be put to sleep like some kind of animal waiting for euthanasia.

Breathing out slowly, Suika shifted her balance from one side and to another, her shadow wavering in the uncertain light. Just one instant... one moment... and she was out. Faster than one could blink, she crossed the distance to where Shikahiro had been gloating a moment before, releasing every ounce of the strength she had gathered, the beat that she had bred in her blood like fire, waiting to be released... and with a little extra fire to boot, sliding an explosive tag into the mix to slap onto the armored hunter's torso that she had been repeatedly and futilely pounding on before, slowly and surely...

Softening it up.

The notion that this skinny girl could overpower his Kagemane was absolutely flabberghasting to the Nara man, so much so that he was taken off guard by her attack. His eye managed to catch sight of the explosive tag in her hand just in time. He dove out of the way, causing her to slap the bomb onto the wall of the tunnel. He didn't get far before she was pummeling into his torso, those whip-quick strikes, each one doing just a bit of damage, but each one hitting a spot that she'd struck before. Soon bruises would be forming and her attacks would be even more painful.

The explosive tag went off, blowing part of the tunnel down around them, which Shikahiro used to his advantage as he coughed away dust from the blast. He snaked his shadow through the grooves in the stones around where the rocks had fallen. Hopefully his grasping shadow would be able to sneak up on her in the midst of the debris, and give him a moment to breath, since her wailing on him was beginning to take a toll on his ability to fight.

"Alright, now you've made it clear that you're trying to kill me. I'm not playing nice anymore!" He grunted, standing up from his kneeling position. His eyes were narrowed to beady slits as he searched through the clearing debris for the blonde, just as his shadow snaked about, looking to snare her well.

Type: Ninjutsu [Void | Hijutsu; Nara]

"Going for the throat is playing nice? Man, you must have a lot of friends, Shi-chan. I'm not really into BDSM, though, so you can save it for them instead, okay?" Shifting her balance lightly back and forth from one foot to another, she shuffled slightly on her feet to maintain the energetic balance of her momentum. While her surprise counter hadn't been quite as effective as she would have liked, she could see now that it was starting to take a toll on the stubborn Nara, though she would have to take care to manage her own reserves of strength as well. Truthfully, she hadn't wanted to actually use a weapon against Shikahiro in the first place, but what choice had she been left with when he'd tried to strangle her like that?

Coughing through the smoke and dust cast up by her recent attack on the Nara, Suika was unable to see the shadow snaking it's way to her feet once again. For the moment, it didn't significantly impact her movements, but it would only be a matter of time until the nigh-inconspicuous half-beat lag to her movements caught up with her.

For a change in pace, Suika decided that maybe she'd actually put her original choice of music back into play for now... and see how that worked out. Maybe with a new song to mix things up a little bit, one that better suited the mood of the moment. Yes, that would do nicely.

Spotting the Nara as he poked out from the mess they'd cause, she leapt foreward unknowingly into the debris, soaring past him with a double bicycle kick and a lefthanded clothesline before her suspiciously curving shadow became apparent - and it didn't take a rocket scientist to come up with why. How unoriginal... this was why she hated dealing with the younger members of the Nara clan. They just strictly followed rote patterns rather than trying anything new. Well, she'd just have to try and find a way out of this again like she had before... if she got the chance. Escaping from a shadowbinder's clutches once wasn't unheard of, but the notoriously stubborn clan wasn't inclined to giving second chances.

Her speed was pretty punishing, Shikahiro had to admit. It took a lot of effort, stepping up his dodges and evading the flurry of kicks. He didn't get away from all of them, but she only caught him in the face with a single kick. Which unfortunately was enough to take him off guard (or maybe it was the BDSM comment. The pretty ones never did the fun stuff.) while she came at him with a clothesline. That was a hand to hand attack that he'd never really had the pleasure of being acquainted with. It took him fully off his feet.

The Nara coughed softly as the rat handseal in his hands shifted to the dragon seal, then the tiger and lastly back to the rat. His shadows crept back up her legs in the form of the cold, slithering hands. This time he had a pretty good feeling that the battle was over, but if Suika was only here to serve as a distraction while her sister got away she'd served her purpose well.

Shikahiro was irritated enough at almost being blown up that he didn't have any snappy retort to the girl. He simply wanted to knock her out so that he could finish his mission and go back to the village. He didn't even like fighting. "Not cool." Was all he muttered, bringing himself back into a kneeling position.

[Sorry, I accidentally put the wrong number of strikes in my last post. Since you ended up taking less damage because of it anyway I guess it's... sort of ok?... but I'll try to be more careful about in the future.]

What a pain. Someone who could halt your movements in their tracks... was definitely not the sort of person that Suika was suited to fight. If any of her sisters had been in her shoes she felt that the Nara boy would've been in for a world of hurt, but they weren't, were they? They were gone. She was alone now, though she didn't think that would last for long. The village would find an excuse to dump her body somewhere where nobody would find it soon enough.

Until then, though, she intended to resist. It was just... so hard. Struggling against the Nara's shadow, she felt like she was trying to swim through tar for all the good it was doing her. Twitching angrily as her body refused to move, she finally managed to push through it, building up something resembling the start of a momentum again as she snapped a pair of jabs towards her captor's torso. She could feel the hands of Shikahiro's shadow at her throat, and her vision swam as her oxygen was cut short.

Suffocating hurt, and this, Suika reminded herself, was why the Nara could only get the crazy scary chicks. Suika hoped that whatever domineering bitch Shikahiro got stuck with ruined his life the way he was trying to ruin hers, but she probably wouldn't be that lucky. Karma never worked in convenient ways like that.

"There we go... just hold still and relax." Shikahiro sighed, letting her flail against him for a moment more as she tried to resist the groping shadows of his attack. He didn't get the kind of satisfaction that she had joked about when he had attempted to bind her up the first time. Shikahiro didn't have that kind of luck with the ladies, and his intelligence sort of made it hard to relate to people. No, he had no frame of reference for sexual bondage. He was just glad that he had her at a disadvantage now. She'd hit on him enough for one day, and that was without having to deal with the girl's sister. That would come next.

Suika was still standing though. He forced the hands to tighten their grip just a little bit. He wanted to incapacitate her, not kill her. "Don't fight it Suika." He said, trying not to sound cocky, but it didn't help much. Shikahiro was just a baseline overconfident dick.

Taking BPM; 60 | 8 Damage

-- [Main Phase]

Performing:

• Kage–Kubishibari No Jutsu | Shadow–Neck Binding Technique | 影首縛りの術
Type: Ninjutsu [Void | Hijutsu; Nara]
Rank: Chūnin
Cost: 160 Chakra
Damage: 60 [Turn 1], 40 [Turn 2]
Effect: This jutsu takes up two (2) main phases, and each phase receives full modifiers from both participants involved with this jutsu. While this jutsu resolves, Kagemane no Jutsu, Maruchi Kagemane, or the acceptable Kagemane replacement (henceforth referred to as "Kagemane") remains active. This includes all of its effects, upkeep costs, and chances to break free. On the second turn of this jutsu, the target will roll a D20 in their Response Phase. They will suffer effects based on their roll (listed below). When this jutsu ends, Kagemane also ends. If the target breaks free of Kagemane at any point during this jutsu, both jutsu will end simultaneously. Usable twice per battle.

1-3: Target is “Clobbered” for 2 Turns.
4-7: Target is “Dizzy” for 2 Turns.
8-9: Target has a “Migraine” for 2 Turns.
10: Damage from this Technique on this Turn is treated as a Critical Hit.
11-12: The Base Damage of this Technique this turn increases by 80.
13-14: Opponent is Slow for 2 Turns.
15: Opponent Skips their Next Turn.
16-20: No Additional Effect

Description: In the history of the Nara Clan, the Kagemane no Jutsu was originally thought to be a support type jutsu, and it kept the clan in a rather weak standing among other of the nation's clans. As the Kagemane began to be revolutionized, and the Nara Clan Shinobi focused more on being a mobile force capable of bringing down an army, the Kage Kubishibari was developed to give the Nara Clan its first real weapon to be created out of their Shadow Jutsu. The Kage Kubishibari requires that the Kagemane no Jutsu be attached to the opponent. Then the Kage Kubishibari, its victim unlikely to move at all, will begin to creep up the body, slowly wrapping itself around the victim, squeezing the body like a boa constrictor. Eventually, the shadow will reach the throat, and the shadow will grow a five-fingered hand, which will grip the opponent was if they were being strangled. Within moments, the opponent will either die of a broken neck, or find themselves suddenly succumbing to asphyxiation by the shadow hand.

Relax, huh? Maybe there was some merit to that. It wasn't as if Shikahiro could hold her forever, so it would probably be best if she took the time to recover her strength while the opportunity presented itself. There was only so much resistance that could be put up while actually restricted within the Kagemane, but her thundering heartbeat kept track of every moment that passed. Her airflow was restricted and her vision wavered, threatening to throw all of her determination, her concentration, and her previous efforts into disarray.

No. Not yet. She still had to focus. There would be a crack, a moment where Shikahiro would let his guard down and she would be able to regain her own momentum. She just had to wait. To wait, watch, and listen... The discomfort would fade, the pain would become a memory, the memory would become experience, and that experience would form the foundation for the strength of her future.

Suika was, (un?)fortunately, fairly familiar with being on the receiving end of torture and interrogation techniques. As the youngest of her many siblings, she'd been a proverbial punching bag for more years than she cared to count. It didn't take away from the raw, primal, instinctive fear that came when it was impossible to breathe. Her body was still screaming at her that she was dying, even though her logical mind knew that she had not yet reached her limits. Her animal instincts were still screaming at her to fight, or else to run away and hide, to do anything but what she was doing now. How could she just stand there and wait while she was being killed like this?

But she would. Ever so slowly, ever so surely, the Yamanaka's foot shuffled slightly, tapping out an uneven rhythm. She would wait... and when the opportunity presented itself, she would act.

(I'm like a full week late to post in here (No real good excuse, had some life stuff going on, but it was mostly because I was just a little burnt out from doing 3 battles at once.). I honestly can't in good conscience not offer you to take the win from a time-out. You fought really hard in the face of a build that was the absolute counter to what you made. I personally think you deserve to win. If you'd like to continue, we can, but I just wanted to throw this out there since in the eyes of the rules, I definitely lose.)
