-Physical Description: Her long, wavy hair is almost always loose. She is slender, with slight curves. Her eyes seem to sparkle in sunlight. She has a scar above her right eyebrow from a time she was a child and accidentally slipped and fell on rock.

Personality: Once a joyful, spirited girl, Genka has become a mostly depressive person. Where once she crafted ice scupltures in celebration of life, she now does only in mourning. She cares deeply for people, yet fears to become attached, believing herself to be a kind of bad luck charm. Though through the feelings of uselessness and fear, she has some hope that she can lay the demons of her past behind her and enter into a new, and joyous life

How does one preempt a story of transience? Quite simply put; the tale of Yuki Genka is one of intentional stagnation. But, where does such allowed defeat begin?
The Talking Gazelle's Band of Carnies
The Talking Gazelle Carnival was one of little renown, despite the talent that so permeated any grounds that it did decide to settle upon. The Carnival's participants originated in all manner of interesting places- from stable-boys turned fire-breather to former shinobi seeking a better application to their chakra latent talent. But the story of one Yuki Genka begins with little mention of the carnival at large, but rather with her nameless parents. Within this traveling family, no "claim" was allowed to be made to any child. Like many indigenous tribes of the distant west, children were passed among each subsections of talent to glean what they could in their limited time with the "new" foster care. In this regard, the family was stronger than any that the Shinobi counties could have produced, but it also instilled an unpredicted fear within every new child: They could not bear being away from the entirety of their family. Every death, every venture where one or more persons did not return was more than simply grieved, it shook the entire foundation of the extended "family".
Genka was no different than any child in the Talking Gazelle. She had been raised by the entirety of the carnival and came to call every individual person brother or sister, picking up small bits of each of their arts. She was an illusionist and mime, ventriloquist and pyromaniac, dancer and drinker; and in many ways, she was a promising actor within the traveling show. Her particular art, however, was in that of manipulating water to become statues of beautiful ice. She could create frozen doppelgangers of the most beautiful, and the most disfigured, countenances that graced the world. It was for this that her show became her name- Yuki Genka: Singing Snow. Every sculpture resonated either joy or sorrow to its beholders- a bad habit instilled into her by the carnival's "mind-reader", as she would often create a statue in the likeness of a deceased member of either the crowd's family or her own. Through this, she found herself able to keep memories of those family members who would never again perform alive, though it was much frowned upon within the family itself. They saw her reincarnations as blades that tore open old wounds. Yet not a single of them would have imagined that they, too, would join the menagerie of frozen memories.
Setting: Kirigakure no Sato; The Day that the World Turned-
The carnival had been committed to its usual route: A circular venture through the known shinobi world, beginning in Kumogakure no Sato and Ending in Kirigakure no Sato. This was to be their last stop before a winter of rest, recuperation, and refinement of their arts. The night of their final performance had been one full of cheer on the crowd's behalf. Cotton Candy conjured from the fair air would be distributed through the patrons as a show of good will- which was a tragedy in and of itself, as not even karma could have saved them from what was to come.
Kumogakure no Sato's mysterious army struck with a blitzkrieg attack like none that the shinobi world had ever seen before. Kirigakure no Sato's forces had been eliminated in a mere matter of hours, leaving many civilians without family or even homes to return to. The Talking Gazelle was not so fortunate. It had been deemed a threat that would serve to hide renegade shinobi and would be eliminated en masse. The grounds were burned to ash, patrons included, and a particular Yuki Genka was not a place to be found. You see, within the earlier portion of the night, her current foster "parents" had required a number of blades for their next act, a sword-swallowing adventure that would utilize the still-sharp blades of the local shinobi populace. During the initial surge of Kumogakurian forces, she had been evacuated with the civilians that were allowed to escape the onslaught. When she had at last returned to her carnival grounds, the entirety of her family had become memories caught within ash-tainted frosted visages. She would weep for days, weeks, months.
And in that time, a burning resolve would form within her most primal emotions- she wanted revenge. Not just for her family, but for the pure talent wasted away with the torching of her transient home. Thus, she entered into an underground resistance movement that would teach her the art of combat- an art that seemed surprising hard to grasp, given her mastery of the formation of ice. It would be nearly two and a half years before she would have been seen to be able to take on even the lowest of Kumogakure's combined forces; and by that time, the war was already on its last leg.
Like all fires, the one within her heart began to dwindle- and eventually, faded. After the war had been finished and treaties signed, the village of Kiri adopted her as one of their own and pushed her into proper academy training to focus on those non-combat points that had been missed during her rushed training. Redundancy lead to boredom, and boredom planted great seeds of doubt within her mind- a fact only augmented by her inability to be assigned to any given team after immediate graduation. The girl-gone-woman had then unintentionally reached a silent verdict: She was utterly useless to those around her. At first, this birthed desperation to find purpose- yet all she could manage was simple sculptures at local fairs; She had become the epitome of depression.
And to this day, she mulls about her affairs with a heavy half heart. No hopes for a redemption have dared to surface, for her mind stifles all such attempts by way of a swift reminder that it would only lead to disappointment.
