A terrible and unmistakable force released from the heavens or an otherworldly perception of a degree of hating hell wreaked an unnatural flow of fire and lightning within a hurricane of foreboding elements ravaged an island upon the Northern Sea. A terrible whiplash of angry water soon followed the marvel in the sky. If you hadn’t seen the blinding light in the horizon, or the crashing sound of earthquakes and thunderstorms rolling together, you must either be handicapped in those areas or there would need to be a superlative reason to miss it. The effects of the unknown anomaly in life are currently being investigated. The Iwagakure national Records have released information on the island. It was a discrete island, of only a few inhabitance; quite a primitive isle to build a habitat. The records recently released stated that the native name of the land mass was “The Island of Ikasama.” An island that once had an out of date NCIA facility that was destroyed by Alchem Syaoran and Hyuuga Yatako on a previously given mission. Our spies have infiltrated and picked up various other snippets from newspapers from Otogakure no Sato and Kumogakure no Sato; each touching the waters of the Northern Sea.

 

…A tragic note echoing across the planes of existence. No sound Ninjutsu currently known could project or replicate such a rhythm. It was astounding to be put frankly. On a scholarly level, the experience was remarkable, none to compare to. Certainly, there would be research to follow, a focusing and release of chakra to push past the sound barrier and carrying outward to past Otogakure no Sato. As you can see, for lack of a better term, all I can call this wonder is an explosion of new proportions. With our brave shinobi sent off to the Capital of the World, Fang; we could not endanger our valued remaining shinobi to go collect research in case whatever caused the eruption was still living in the vicinity. The waves afterwards have also rocked our coastline, making it near impossible to set off ships and unfortunately, all fishing liners that were on the sea at the time were swept under the tide. …Existance was nonexistent, life was mangled and mutilated- what remained. A fifty mile crater was left in the wake of the giant burst of energy; certainly no shinobi could create such an atrocity. Perhaps only that of…That can only certainly mean…all of the energy in an area is consumed and released once again, twisting and turning like a storm and raging whatever in its path. Our research team has embarked on interval trips of two teams. One team on the site surveying for two days and the other making round trips back to the main land. The group that remained on the island have passed away for another unseen reason and the ones that have returned exhibit strange chakra readings and now are in poor health condition. The island’s environment has broken, the ecosystem was in the process of crashing, even the waters might be contaminated. We can only fear the worst.

 

I can’t truly say myself what this all means, nor what we can obtain from it. But this is a warning, whatever is going on, coincidently appears after the resistance set off for Nigiyakashufu? Call me farfetched, but it seems too connected. Unfortunately, there is something graver that we must consider: The battling has not ended, if it is indeed connected, things could become worse. What has this world made each other? Driving each side to become ‘stronger’, but at what cost! Developing dangerous techniques, but what about times of peace? All we can do is get past this obstacle currently. Stay tuned, we hope for the survival of our warriors and that whatever abomination caused that wrong against nature will never be uncovered again.

Tragedy Strikes Home

Today, the village of Iwagakure no Sato suffered a rather surprising attack by an “unknown” force. At approximately 10:45 local time, an unknown object plummeted from the sky, breaking the academy roof and causing severe structural damage. Eyewitness accounts claim that the building only came down minutes later after a second explosion was heard from the site of the attack. Sources have confirmed that the building was successfully evacuated and no deaths resulted thanks to the quick work and diligence of our ninja forces.

The terrorist strikes on our nation in the last week have weighed heavily on many minds and thankfully few bodies. Starting with the attempted assassination on our Prime Minister Daniel Hollows four days ago, followed by the bombing and subsequent attack on the Metropolis Sacred Valley Hospital where he was being cared for and continuing today with the attack on Iwagakure no Sato. It is no wonder that the question on citizen’s mind is not who, but why now? It is public opinion, though not official opinion, that we are near to war with our neighbor to the north. It is also not surprising that it is popular opinion that these series of terrorist attacks were caused by none other than Yukigakure no Sato. Given the nations history, it is easy to believe that they would be the first to throw stones.

Why is it then that out leaders stand by and allow these heathens to sack our land? Has Alchem Syaoran, once feared as the Black Swordsman of the Kumogakure Empire Wars really gone so soft as to allow his own home to be soiled so?

Our government is yet to act on these attacks and the citizens lose confidence in their leadership with each passing hour.

We ask these questions not because we wish to cause disorder, but because we here at the Iwagakure Herald want answers, as much as the rest of the population.

War Declared!

Yuki no Kuni Makes First Strike!

23 Dead, Dozens more injured!

Today, a few hours before sunrise on the northern border just a mere mile from the demilitarized zone created two years ago in the Tsuchi Yuki Border Agreement¹, Yuki no Kuni launched an attack on multiple airships stationed along the border. Ten ships were taken out of commission at least temporarily due to the attack with word saying that many more are damaged but still being flown. Official word is yet to confirm the count on ships, but insider information is confirming that ten ships were taken out of the sky between sundown last night and sunrise this morning. The I.A.F. has confirmed that twenty three airmen were lost in the attack, the largest loss of life in a single incident since the creation of the organization. Details are still coming in, but it appears as if the attack was done through the use of bombs disguised as lanterns customary with the Spirit Harvest Festival. It has been rumored that because of the subtlety of the attack that airmen were not aware that they were under siege until it was too late. The I.A.F. Bounty was one of the ships on the border, but information has it that the Dreadnought class ship was saved from major damage due to quick thinking of its commander.
 
Loyola Nine, Admiral of the I.A.F., was in Metropolis during the attack and has been unreachable for comment. Prime Minister Daniel Hollows has a press briefing later this afternoon. The Minister spoke briefly to the public, reaffirming that the country has the situation under control and that they would bring more information as they have it. Due to the Tsuchi Yuki Aggression Declaration² signed last year by the Prime Minister, the Tsuchikage and the Admiral of the I.A.F., this act by Yuki no Kuni is a clear declaration of war. There is no doubt in any citizens mind what this means and what response the country must take now to defend its borders.
