Introduction

Yōkai Jinchuuriki
From the Dawn of the Shinobi Age, and the formation of the ninja arts by the Sage of the Six Paths, great demons have been sought after and sealed away by nations eager for the protection and strength they offered. These beasts, known as the Bijuu, and their hosts, the Jinchuuriki, were used as living displays of power, and a means of balance between the original Five Great Shinobi Nations.

However, with the dawn of the new Shinobi Age, most of the tailed beasts were safely, and secretly sealed away, keeping them from being used as the great balances of power they were in ages past. However, the lure of such unnatural gifts, and the strength it would garner could not be forgotten. With the original tailed beasts presumably beyond their grasp, those strong in the Sealing Arts have turned their eyes to other potentially powerful beings.

Lesser demons, or other forms of living chakra, were used in early years of ninja warfare as viable substitutes to the great Bijuu. While not as strong as the original tailed beasts, these supernatural forces had gifts and skills that still overmatched most shinobi, making them powerful, more readily available and easier to control weapons of warfare. Because of the danger they posed, again many of these beasts were sealed away in a secret means, preventing their use from any power. However, after decades of rest, the demons have once again been released into the world from their dark prison.

Among the numerous Yōkai released into the world are a small subsection known historically as Yōkaigata. Yōkaigata are defined by two traits that set them apart from many of their brethren. The first is that they are on average much more conscious and self aware of their existence, where most of the Yōkai have minds closer to beasts than men. The second, and most important, is that these Yōkai possess a massive amount of chakra that defines them as very strong, but also unable to hold a physical form for very long. Because of their massive amount of chakra, their physical body wants to disperse and become one with the world around it. As such, the Yōkaigata seek out hosts of their own in order to prevent themselves from slipping into the next world. This is commonly known as a possession, though a person with training and a strong will have been known to create symbiotic relations with the demons, and therefore are known as Yōkai Jinchuuriki.

FAQ

What is Yōkai Chakra?
Yōkai Chakra is a separate chakra pool from the user's that is used to pay the cost of the Jinchuuriki's 'Cloak' skill, the Yōkai's techniques and even the Yōkai's skills. Yōkai Chakra may not be used for any other means than the ones listed just now. Yōkai Chakra does not regenerate on its own, instead each demon has a means in which their own chakra must be regained, usually resulting in a special action that the Jinchuuriki must take.

What happens if a Yōkai's Chakra reaches zero?
If a player runs out of Yōkai Chakra they do not fall unconscious, however they immediately revert out of their Cloak form and may not activate it again. In addition, if a player cannot pay the Yōkai Chakra upkeep cost at any time, they will immediately fall out of their Cloak form. Yōkai Chakra may not be drained or affected by any means unless it specifically is designed to target Yōkai Chakra or is a Sennin level Sealing jutsu that targets Chakra.

Can any Yōkai possess a person?
In most cases, no. Only Yōkaigata have the ability to possess human beings. However, in very specific Yōkai it has been shown that they may have abilities that allow them to take over a human's body for a short time. However information on this ability is limited and it is believed to only be possessed by a small number of Yōkai outside Yōkaigata.

What is the difference between a Yōkai and a Yōkaigata?
Yōkaigata are defined by two traits. Their ability to reason like a human in certain situations and their massive chakra amount that keeps them from maintaining a corporeal body on their own. As such, Yōkaigata often seek out human hosts that help them maintain their presence in this world. It is important to realize that the term "Yōkaigata" is a human term, and that all Yōkai see themselves as Yōkai.

What is the difference between a Yōkai possession and a Yōkai Jinchuuriki?
A Yōkai possession is often seen in normal civilians who do not have the mental, chakra and physical training seen in ninja. Though the body is less compatible with the Yōkai, it is much easier to control and often the human's personality and mind can be lost to the Yōkai, leaving only the demon in control. Often in ninja however, when a Yōkaigata tries to possess them they are met with resistance. If this resistance can be turned into a symbiotic relationship that allows both the human and the Yōkai to live within the same body, this is called a Yōkai Jinchuuriki.

Do Yōkai Jinchuuriki have any physical traits?
Yes. A tattoo like seal appears somewhere upon the hosts body; the size, shape and placement of the tattoo is dependent on the Yōkai itself. As the player progresses in their Cloak skill ranks the seal itself can become larger and more complicated to show it. This seal is a sign of the symbiotic relationship between the host and the Yōkai- it does not appear on those being possessed. Other physical traits, such as the whiskers that Naruto showed are optional and are up to the host if they want to role play them or not.

Are Yōkai and Tailed Beasts related?
No. The Tailed Beasts from canon are on an entire different level than the Yōkai. There is no correlation between the two.

How do I become a Yōkai Jinchuuriki?
To begin with a sign up list will be created and the staff will judge how much interest there is in the subject. Each member will only be allowed one character to become a Jinchuuriki, much like how only one character may have a death bonus. For additional details, contact a staff member.

Who creates the Yōkai?
The staff have full creative control on the Yōkai. Members will be presented with a small selection of choices in their Yōkai if they choose to be a Jinchuuriki. Also they may make suggestions, but staff still maintain creative control. Members will not be able to custom fit a Yōkai to their liking.

Can I have more than one Yōkaigata as a Jinchuuriki?
No.

What happens to a Yōkaigata when its host dies?
The Yōkai is forcibly ejected from the host body and left in a weakened state.

If I do not have enough Ninjutsu/Genjutsu/Taijutsu to use my Yōkai's techniques, can I still use them? What if I cannot use the type of jutsu for some reason?"
Yes! Yōkai techniques can be used regardless of stat points in said stats or other skills or abilities that prevent you from using that type of technique. The flavor of the mechanic is that the Yōkai is performing this technique for you, it is what they are "bringing to the table" so to speak. For mechanical reasons however, the Jinchuuriki is still considered to be the user for the technique.

Can my Prodigy or Legendary character learn Yokai skills earlier than normal?
Yes! Yōkai Jinchuuriki are an Advanced System, so they may be learned early like all other Advanced Systems!

What does "Equivalent Cost" mean in the Yōkaigata skills?
Yōkaigata have skills that they own. These skills do NOT need to be purchased by the player's character, they only need to purchase the ranks of the Cloak skill to gain access to these skills. The costs are kept track of to help balance and to keep a clean track record for the staff.
