Goro's mother ripped the anchor from her own ship once to fend off a great beast in the middle of the ocean on one of her journeys. Upon returning to port, the anchor was modified even further, with sharpened edges, a proper handle and alterations for re-balancing. It was then given to Goro as a graduation present when he was promoted to Gennin. It's weight and balance make it easy to swing, but the impact is enough to send most people flying leaving them in a less than favorable position.
