Tensions at an all time high between the Warring nations of Sunagakure and Kirigakure no Sato. In trenched in what seemed an eternal war both sides locked in land and sea battles. Captain of the flag ship 'The Dauntless", Hozuki Zangetsu has the periless task of capturing one of the up and coming shinobi of the Sand. Sasageri Kagura has been reaking havoc on the high seas, her prowess in Scorch Jutsu has been quite troublesome for the navel fleets. Only Hozuki Zangetsu has the capacity to end her fiery threat.

The Dauntless, for the most part, had been abandoned. Fires burned at the bow and aft, and Zangetsu had no doubt at all what had caused them. The white-haired ninja stalked the deck of the ship, his dark jacket billowing out as the heat of the flames created uncomfortable gusts of hot air that stood in opposition of the cool ocean mists. It had seemed he'd had his prisoner well in control... until he didn't any more. This was going to be a set-back to his meteoric rise through the ranks of Kirigakure, but it wouldn't be anything but a speed bump if he could recapture his quarry.
 

Wherever it was she was hiding, it wouldn't last long. He would search until his boat had burned to the waterline if he had to. "Come out, come out wherever you are." He sneered, sharp teeth flashing in the firelight. This was the sort of game that mist-ninja loved most of all. Though he did wish that the smoke didn't sting his eyes quite so bad.

Description: Genjutsu is the manipulation of chakra to affect the minds of other beings. While some ninja may excel in the physical manipulation of their chakra, it is possible that they also may flounder when attempting to utilize that chakra to affect the minds of their foes. Ninja such as this are often completely incapable of practicing the art of Genjutsu.

Lightning Conduction
Effect: Characters with this skill do not apply modifiers from their Defense statistic when modifying damage dealt by physical attacks of the Lightning element. Characters with this skill apply 50% of their Defense modifier when modifying damage dealt by physical attacks of Tier 1 Combinatorial Elements that contain the Lightning element.
Description: Lightning is the bane of the Hōzuki clan. Given their ability to become liquid at will, and the high levels of water that are constantly maintained within their body, they conduct lightning and lightning natured chakra very easily. To be struck by a lightning jutsu is extremely damaging to a Hōzuki, and powerful shocks tend to reduce them to a jellied, immobile state.

Metamorphic Body
Effect: Characters with this skill lose 100 ‘Body Fluid’ during any Setup Phase that they are afflicted with the status effect ‘Dehydrated’. Characters with this skill lose an additional 40% of their total Speed statistic when afflicted with the status effect ‘Frozen’.
Description: Members of the Hōzuki clan are well-known among the clans of Kirigakure no Sato for their ability to reduce their body entirely into a liquid state. This ability affords them various strengths, but as they are composed largely of water, their bodies are easily subjected to changes in temperature, causing them to lose body water rapidly in extremely hot temperatures, or to freeze almost solid in extremely cold conditions.

From the prow of her sleek boarding skiff, Kagura narrowed her eyes. That was the Dauntless, leading the Kirigakure fleet, on course to meet the Sunagakure nazy in less than an hour. Somebody had decided to pull out all the stops. Suna’s navy was small and much weaker than the natives of the ocean, which was to be expected. So far they had fought with guerrilla campaigns, sabotage, infiltration and deceit. She’d been involved in most of those, and at the memories a haze of superheated air obscured her vindictive smile. It had been a long, long time since she had been an innocent priestess, awed by the world around her. War had been a cruel, callous teacher and she was the last of her kind. The Children of Amaterasu had been crushed in an earlier conflict, a battle so chaotic that nobody on either side knew who was rightly to blame. Resentment burned in her heart, as hot as any of her flames. Her demure, pristine shrine maiden’s outfit had been torn that day in mourning, and Kagura no Shakuton had returned to the battlefields consumed by the need for revenge. This wasn’t what she wanted, but it would take away some of the searing pain she felt every waking second.

 

For a time, at least. Like any other fire, the one that had consumed her heart only grew.

 

Wind streamed from her off hand, pushing the small infiltration vessel. A shimmering heat haze shielded her from view, an artificial mirage that bent light away from her ship. The patch of air was no genjutsu, and so could not be cancelled, and blended into the tossing waters seamlessly. Once she was close enough, she tossed a tiny spark of fire onto her ship and took to the seas, running fleet-footed over the waves. The growing bonfire just off the bow should be distraction enough, allowing her to climb the ship’s stern without detection. Or so she thought. She had been taken by surprise and captured, rendered senseless. She awoke shortly after, her fury kindling at the anti-seal restraints wrapped around her fingers. Clever, but she had ways around such bindings. The Shield of Seals on her right hand glowed momentarily, before erupting in a burst of flames that melted the metal to slag in an instant. Hands freed, she allowed the fires of the Shakuton to flare incandescent, ripping the Dauntless apart from the inside. Copies of herself walked free into the growing firestorm, searching prey to deceive and lead to a fiery demise. After her clones had walked free from the conflagration, Kagura herself strode into the hellish world of fire and smoke, and they surrounded the lone Kirigakure ninja too dumb to jump overboard. The water rat would learn the folly of trying to bind fire, and all would burn before her. "You're going to regret this," she promised.

Attributes: Ward; Rank I - As an action in your Response Phase you may Block (take half damage) a single Ninjutsu. This ability may be used a number of times equal to the times it was purchased, up to a maximum of two (2) times per battle.

Special Abilities: Chakra Absorption Seal - This weapon is considered to be a 'Small Reusable Scroll' for purposes of inscribing techniques. Additionally, if there is no technique inscribed on this weapon when the attribute 'Ward' is activated, the blocked technique is immediately inscribed onto the weapon at 50% of its normal efficacy as if the user possessed 1 rank of the skill 'Scribe'. Current Inscribed Technique: N/A

Description: Despite its name, the Shield of Seals is not actually a real shield. The gauntlet finds its inspiration in the old kote that came into vogue a century ago. Unlike those technological tools, this weapon's function is surrounded by a complex sealing formula placed on the gauntlet that allows it to function as if it were a scroll. The hand-wear is also designed as a defense against ninjutsu, allowing it to greatly lessen the damage of all forms of offensive ninjutsu and even steal the attack and inscribe it into the seal on the gauntlet.

Description: Ever since you were a youngster just learning how to be a ninja, you've been just piss poor at this one area. No matter how hard you work, you just have some inability to learn this effectively. You may be tender about the situation.
Effect: You are considered to have 80% of the base stat points in the chosen stats, rounded up. May only be taken once per stat.
Cost: +2

 

Claustrophobic
Description: Whether through instinct or experience, the character simply can't deal with the confined nature of some places. While they might even be able to function in ordinary situations, the stresses of combat overwhelm them for a few seconds.
Effect: When this character enters battle in an underground, indoor or confined space, they suffer from one turn of 'Afraid; 2' towards all other combatants.

Poor Stamina Manipulation
Description: Your stamina system just fails to respond sometimes. Like an engine not turning over, once in a while you just fail to create the energy to do your superhuman feats of strength.
Effect: Before using a Taijutsu technique, roll a d10. On 1 or 2, the jutsu fails. You may not take another action this turn, but the stamina is not lost. May not have Sealed Taijutsu.

Merciful
Description: You bring mercy to your opponents on the battlefield, no matter how terrible they may be. You refuse to bring yourself to their level, and as such will always pull back on that finishing blow. Not to say you won't finish them, but everyone deserves the chance to surrender
Effect: Whenever you would deal the finishing blow in combat to an opponent, you must let them live with one HP left, only applies once a battle.

Uninterested Combatant

Description: Some people have no interest in fighting those who are obviously weaker than them. These shinobi will turn down a fight with weaker individuals regardless of the situation and will engage only if assaulted.

Effect: When fighting an opponent 5 levels lower than yourself, skip your turn(s) until the opponent has a turn.

Restrictions: Cannot be taken with "Self-Defence".

Aveta’s Hammer
Description: Swimming is hard. And water is wet, and uncomfortable, and cold. Why would I learn how to swim? I mean, I can walk on water after all right? It's not like I'll ever fall in. Whatever. It's a stupid skill anyways, we were born to walk on land, not flail around pretending we're something we're not. It's unnatural.
Effect: Character may not swim in role play. Any attempt to swim results in the character needing to be saved by an outside source. This character is takes triple damage from the status effect 'Choking' when afflicted by way of water. In addition, this character is 'Afraid; 2' of all opponents when the terrain 'Water' is on the battlefield.

Effect: This technique may be used in the Setup Phase or Main Phase. When determining the cost of this technique ‘x’ is considered to be the number of ‘Clones’ created by the user and may never be greater than 4. ‘Clones’ have 1 Health and 1% of the user’s other statistics. ‘Clones’ are not physical, and may not use items, techniques or attack during their turn. The user of this technique gains +20 Evasion or +20 Accuracy for every ‘Clone’ on the battlefield. The effects of 'Clones' may be ignored by any character with heightened senses (i.e; Byakugan, Path of the Sensor, Inuzuka Smell Tracker, etc). This technique may be used in the Setup Phase 1 time per battle.

Description: A technique that most students are required to be proficient in before they can graduate from the academy, the Bunshin no Jutsu is the most basic of the myriad of clone techniques that exist in the world. By properly molding their chakra, the user is capable of creating near perfect replicas of themselves. Unlike most bunshinjutsu, the basic clone technique does not produce physical clones but creates something more akin to a projected image, which is a real image that has no form. The Clone Technique is considered an E-Ranked jutsu, and is not very powerful, but with practice and ingenuity many shinobi have come to use it in masterful ways. Most often stalling by hiding out among their clones, or setting themselves up for a strong offensive.

The sudden appearance of multiple copies of the famed scorch-user caused the captain of the Dauntless to roll his eyes. These ninja that thought they were all heroes seemed to forget the cardinal rules of being a shinobi in their eagerness to be all noble and defiant. "I hadn't meant for you to actually just walk out." The shark-toothed Kiri-nin chuckled, "So's the real you hanging back out of sight still?"

It was an easy assumption to make, especially since he had taken the same precautions. "I can't imagine you'd be dumb enough to just walk right up to me." A whole different version of Zangetsu spoke as he walked out of the smoke, accompanied by four other doppelgangers. Being rather brash (too much so to pay attention to details) and having no special abilities that allowed him to sense variations in chakra, he had no idea that Kagura's clones were pale imitations. They may as well have been Shadow Clones or something more dangerous to him.

Maximum of five (5) clones may be created. 
Description: Using surrounding water from the environment, the user creates a series of clones that take on the appearance of the user with a shimmer of transparency due to the water. A proficient user can solidify the water fully to make a perfect replica, but many disregard to in the heat of combat as it takes extra concentration they doesn't honestly help the clones do their job. When destroyed the clones simply turn back to water.

Kagura sneered at Zangetsu’s condescension, her body wreathed in flames. Somewhere amidst the back of her mind the innocent dancer she had been looked on with lifeless eyes, a prisoner of the brutality of war. “I don’t care. I’ll burn you to ash, burn everything to ash. Boil the seas, melt your famous Seven Swords to slag.” She spared a second for a derisive snort, taking in the captain’s stark-white hair. “Or maybe you’ll just boil off, Hozuki.” Fire and heat radiated off the woman like a miniature sun, igniting the remaining cloth of the sails by sheer temperature. Water on the deck sizzled and hissed, the thick wooden boards of the deck curling. Ropes shriveled and burned, until Kagura was in the center of a roiling firestorm. Her attack was less a jutsu than a simple wave of her hand, flinging fire at the captain of Kirigakure’s last flagship. “Bring all the water you want,” she taunted. “I'm not resting till there's nothing left to burn.”

Kagura's super-heated attacks pulsed outward, both of them striking into one of the figures that wore Zangetsu's face. Unlike shadow clones, the water clones that he had created did not pretend for even a second to be damaged as if the actual Zangetsu had been hit. Instead, upon contact with the water the clones dispersed, dropping to the ground in a puddle of steaming liquid.

One of the remaining Zangetsu's threw his hands together in a quick succession of handseals, then raised his hand up, turning the discarded clone-puddles into tiny blades of water, which he sent whizzing in the direction of all of the duplicates of Kagura. This would show her how one really dealt with clones.

With several of his clones still helping to confuse the situation, Zangetsu thought it most prudent to keep up the charade and remain indistinguishable from the others. In unison with his clone, he crafted the handseals to create his own volley of liquid thorns. A water clone was only created with ten percent of its creator's chakra, and though they were useful distractions they were quite weak as far as clones went. Since he was a Hozuki though, his mastery over water was so great that his tiny, water needles were capable of punching through even strong defenses.

"You know, there's an awful lot of water here. I don't want you to bite off something bigger than you can chew." He smirked, firing the darts toward the woman from one of the puddles of dead clone. She would have to do much better than that if she wanted to defeat the captain of the Dauntless.

The battlefield was slowly becoming more and more choked with smoke and ash, listing dangerously towards the waterline as the presence of the Shakuton slowly burned the Dauntless down to its keel. Barely part of the physical world, Kagura’s Bunshin had no issue moving through the noxious smoke. As they faded in and out of view they became incredibly elusive, and most of Zangetsu’s Water Thorns evaporated before they could come close to the chakra constructs. Even so, one of the four duplicates flickered and vanished, pierced by multiple tendrils of water.

The fire burned ever higher, fueled by the heat of the blazing ship. This brat thought he could extinguish her with little jabs? She screamed her fury, and the flames redoubled in reaction to her will. Heat surrounded her like a comforter, the only sense of family and home she had left. Fire was her birthright and heat was closer to her than her own shadow. The little vines of water that the water rat sent at her fizzled and hissed as they evaporated in the air, only scant droplets reaching her to leave a shallow mark along her cheekbone. A single drop of blood oozed from the cut, bubbling and hissing as it too evaporated. The clones were an irritation, one she was loath to favor with her full attention. She flicked a hand and drew three needles, throwing them unerringly into the smoke at the false ninja.

 

“’Bite off’,” she hissed, “Bite off? Everything I taste is like ash. My home is already dust, what more do you want to take from me? No. I'll burn all of you until only ashes are left. It was well known that Kagura's strength of ninjutsu was incredibly, and the sight of those scorch attacks barreling toward him caused Zangetsu to quickly dissolve into a puddle of water. He cleanly escaped one of the attacks, but re-materalized too fast, solidifying back into his human shape just in time to be struck with the searing hot wind. "Ack!" He groaned out, as the heat dissolved around him, leaving his mostly liquid body steaming in the wake of the attack.

"Alright, that's just about enough of that." Zangetsu grunted, creating the same seals as his last attack and firing the liquid thorns directly at the woman who had just attacked him. "Not going to be letting some sandy chick beat me around with those things again."

OOC: You should lose 100 Body Water in your Setup Phase because of Metamorphic Body. And you keep using your clone’s accuracy mod instead of yours lol.

 

By the hiss of steam and grunt of pain, Kagura knew her attack had made contact and she snarled in satisfaction. Slippery water rats always had a way for melting apart and escaping, but this one she'd boil until nothing was left. Flames congregated around her hands again as she prepared to fling heat at the wounded captain, but her focus on eradicating the water ninja cost her. Three tendrils of water, spiraling like miniature drills, penetrated the smoke and heat haze to bury themselves in her side, before vaporizing on contact with her innards. She scowled and ignored the pain, placing a burning hand on her side and cauterizing the wound before she could bleed any more. Besides, she'd heard horror stories around the desert campfires that Hozuki ninja could use their liquid bodies to get into your bloodstream through a cut and as farfetched as it was, she would never let her body be desecrated in such a way. Muffling a scream at the sound and sensation of her own flesh sizzling and burning, the Child of Fire turned her focus back to the last defender of the Dauntless. The ship was listing dangerously low in the water now, any any moment it would start to list or take on water, hastening its descent to the ocean floor. Her clones watched on silently, motionless, as if their will to fight was already exhausted. 

 

"Haah... Haah... Come on! You'll have to try harder to kill me!" But despite her bravado, she was holding her wounded side tightly with one hand. "Just die already!" This time she followed up the scorching wave of heat with a knife, hoping that the small blade would go unnoticed in the conflagration.

Kagura had been correct to think that the brash, young Mist-Nin would not notice her kunai hidden within her attack. Zangetsu couldn't let the heat of the Scorch Release kekkei genkai touch him again. His liquid form was too easily evaporated away by her attacks, however as he dipped away from her attack, the kunai found his form. He felt the blade cut into him, but in true Hozuki fashion only water spilled out of the wound.

"Mm... that smarts." The Hozuki said as he looked down at his chest, which had become solid once more. "I have to imagine my clan is an absolute pain in the ass to deal with, eh? We never give that satisfying squish when we take a hit. It's like trying to punch a puddle, right?" He said as he crafted another handseal. The rest of his clones splashed away into nothingness as Zangetsu too became a puddle.

Out of the water on the slowly lilting ship-deck six of the Zangetsu rose up, all in different positions than they had been standing. "Alrighty then." One of the Zangetsu spoke. "See if-" The words came from a different doppelganger. "You can-" And still a different one. "Find the-" They were playing games with her. "Real deal."

"You're irritatingly persistent," Kagura admitted grudgingly. The water rat was still standing, despite the water she’d boiled off his body. No matter. The Dauntless would sink fully, and after that her job would be done. The prospect of this upstart captain surviving their encounter brought a bitter taste to her mouth, and she redoubled her efforts. If it was going to be a numbers game, they could both play that way. As more copies of him rose up, Kagura herself blurred and shifted, the outlines of her body growing indistinct. When the smoke parted, five more copies of Kagura stood on the deck, along with the three other clones from earlier shifting menacingly through the smoke and ash. They were even less dangerous than the irritating Water Clones, but the confusion and doubt they sowed were enough for her purposes. “Most would agree,” she admitted, idly watching the flames on the deck grow and shrink in time with her breathing. “But I don't. Zangetsu let his water clones burst into water after their attack, using their fluid to douse the growing fires on his boat, before he turned back to the woman who had created clones of her own. "You know... that is exactly what my ex-girlfriend used to say about me." He said with a little wink. In a single handseal, Zangetsu created more doppelgangers to work as a distraction. He knew that if she hit him even once more with those super hot balls of air then this was it for him.

He lifted his hand and held it out toward her. He might be a one-trick pony, but at least he was effective at his one trick. "If anything was going to put out the sun... I would hope it would be water." Zangetsu let his liquid needles fly in her direction. This fight wasn't going well, and if he survived, he would be in for a long and arduous paddle home, but for now he had to keep his mind focused on the woman who seemed perfectly suited to kicking his ass.

The four clones that had split off from the Child of Fire wavered and flickered as they intercepted the relatively weak barrage of liquid blades thrown by the captain. All but one flickered and vanished as chakra compromised their forms, melting back into nothingness as swiftly as they appeared. the one that remained glared balefully, before it too faded into the choking fog of ash and fire.

He was scared. "Nothing can put out the sun, Captain. It will burn until it consumes everything. Such is the nature of fire. Even if it doesn't want to, it burns until it dies." Kagura smiled, beginning to walk around and through the flames savaging the ship. Fires parted to allow her to pass, and the immense heat vaporized most Zangetsu's attacks. Her body moved with an irregular cadence, the movements staccato yet somehow hypnotic. Her body remembered the forms well, even if the home she had practiced in was long since dust. Her hands rose and fell in time to the ghost of a song only she could hear, the echo of bells ringing in her ears alone. Afterimages appeared behind her, shadows of the vengeful ghost she had become. It had been years since she’d felt such a battle, and even as another watery thorn spilled more of her lifeblood she felt closer to the life she had once had. Closer now to her sisters than she had been since her life ended in a rain of ash and blood. Whether it was a trick of memory or the divine guidance she’d craved all her life, her strength came to her in full force, burning just beneath her skin. Her dance complete, she readied herself for the Battle of the Dauntless’ final confrontation.

The effects of 'Clones' may be ignored by any character with heightened senses (i.e; Byakugan, Path of the Sensor, Inuzuka Smell Tracker, etc). This technique may be used in the Setup Phase 1 time per battle. 
Description: A technique that most students are required to be proficient in before they can graduate from the academy, the Bunshin no Jutsu is the most basic of the myriad of clone techniques that exist in the world. By properly molding their chakra, the user is capable of creating near perfect replicas of themselves. Unlike most bunshinjutsu, the basic clone technique does not produce physical clones but creates something more akin to a projected image, which is a real image that has no form. The Clone Technique is considered an E-Ranked jutsu, and is not very powerful, but with practice and ingenuity many shinobi have come to use it in masterful ways. Most often stalling by hiding out among their clones, or setting themselves up for a strong offensive.

Zangetsu ran his tongue over his sharpened teeth for a moment as he looked at the clones, with the fight having carried on for as long as it had, he knew that they were simple bunshin and they couldn't hurt him, but he also had a fairly good idea of how this fight was going to play out. With the boat burning to cinders, he would have a good chance of escaping into the water. If he stayed to fight though, Kagura might easily hit him with another one of those hot balls and he'd wind up captured or worse.

"You know, you may be right... but we're a long way out on the open see in a sinking ship. So... I think I might just leave you to this!" The Hozuki took a few steps back, toward the water. "Not to say it hasn't been fun, but I'm not real keen on continuing a fight that there's no profit in. It's not like I can take you into Kirigakure now, without a boat. I'm thinking we might just have to call this one a wash. What do you say?"

It wasn't that the fight was gone from the captain, he still wore a confident smirk, but he knew better than to wage a war that wouldn't gain him anything. "But you owe me a boat." He yelled as he dove from the ship into the water. From there it would be almost impossible to find him. Hozuki were good like that.

[Forfeit. Did the math in my head, and barring a serious botch of dice rolls, I could win by just using Water Clone every turn to counter your basic clones. However it would take almost a hundred posts to do a proper amount of damage to defeat you, if I'm guessing at your health correctly. I also don't feel real good about how bunshinjutsu can be repeatedly used for greater effect because of the tournaments extreme regen, and I think it would be a cheap & boring way to try and defeat you.

Good work on your bloodline. It's what won you the match. I'll look forward to seeing the resub when we finish this up.]
