Decay Release | 腐敗遁 | Fuhaiton

Life cycles. The sons and daughters of Kusagakure understand the movement of energy from seed to sprout, sprout to crop, and crop to nourishment. Energy from the earth gifts its hungry denizens with bounty year after year. In turn, that energy is reclaimed by time and frost. Life is borrowed from the earth and reclaimed, a perfect circle with no end and no beginning.

Knowing that, what would the sons and daughters of Kusagakure reap from the blackened ashes of their homeland? The fields of their homes were rendered untillable, and their great tree felled. The people of Kusagakure became without a home, refugees. Those who lingered in the miasmic fallout of their village found themselves changed. Hands that once held practiced green thumbs were tainted with an entropic touch. Where these individuals’ chakra once raised whole crops from seed to harvest, now their ninjutsu caused things to wither and die. Some would lament their condition as a curse, but the true sons and daughters of Kusagakure know it is not so. Where there are makers, there are unmakers: among them, the sands of time and the cold grasp of winter. To grow and to decay, they were now shapers of Kusagakure’s revival in that perfect, infallible, and unbreakable circle.

Fuhaiton Affinity
Kusagakure’s blighted soil irreparably alters the nature of living things. Those that do not disintegrate into black ash themselves now carry with them the taint of decay.

Effect: The user receives the skill ‘Combinatorial: Decay’ for free. This replaces their free village skill. The user may purchase two ranks of Ninjutsu Mastery [Decay] for 1SP.
Cost: -1 SP

Restriction: Eligible characters must have a history of being born in or living in Kusagakure.

Fuhaiton Consumption
Decay is the returning of energy to a baser, stable state. Life and growth are unstable, and Fuhaiton wielders are capable of manipulating that volatile energy in their ninjutsu practice.

Effect: This skill allows for the user to use chakra and stamina absorption through their Decay element techniques.
Requirements: Fuhaiton Affinity
Cost: -2 SP

Fuhaiton Salvaging
The process of unmaking is naturally inefficient and messy. With enough practice, Fuhaiton wielders are capable of salvaging loose escaping energy before it scatters.

Effect: Whenever an opponent loses chakra through the Chakra Leak effect from the user’s Combinatorial; Decay, the user absorbs 25x% of that effect amount as chakra. (Where x = the user’s rank in this skill.)
Ranks: 4, may be taken every 10 levels
Requirements: Fuhaiton Consumption
Cost: -1 SP

Fuhaiton Entropy
Clones and otherworldly contracts are by their man-made nature unstable. The fleeting bindings that hold these bodies in this realm are impermanent and riddled with excess energy, ripe for unraveling.

Effect: When used against an opponent’s clones or summons, increase the rank of Chakra Leak afflicted through Combinatorial; Decay by y. (Where y = the user’s rank in this skill) This allows Chakra Leak to break its maximum rank.
Ranks: 4, may be taken every 10 levels
Requirements: Fuhaiton Consumption
Cost: -1 SP

I have to admit, as far as judging absorption bloodlines go, my license has lapsed. Most of this looks pretty okay, but I could be extremely wrong. There is one thing that I personally have an issue with and it is the effect of the Decay element itself.

Damage to chakra and stamina is pretty costly to pull off. The ratio is always meant to be 1:1 and it's never supposed to get mods. What Decay does is free Chk and Stm damage, that is also tangentially affected by modifiers, and worse-yet the skills like Nin Mastery and Strategist. There are also some weird mechanical hiccups with the way it's framed currently. For instance, if you were doing a jutsu that did 400 Poison damage, would you be able to also say that that 400 is targeting Stamina, when the additional poison from the subtle element tried to stack with it? Since you can't be poisoned and also poisoned, this is a weird issue.

Oooh- valid concern. The amount of chakra and stamina damage can scale wildly with all the throughput skills on main site and beyond. The glut of absorption through Decay should be limited to an effect built into its techs so the cost:return ratio can be better regulated. Before I make any broad edits to the top post, what is your opinion on this change below? It allows the chakra 'damage' to be a static number so the rest of the BL should be easier to gauge costs as well. It tames down Decay in a way too, since the opponent can sort of deny the highest amount of chakra drain  if their tool kit is varied enough.

Salvaging gets a good nerf by limiting the return to chakra, but as a ninjutsu element it probably should focus on chakra. At jounin, that's 45 chakra lost, and I think it falls in line with Combinatorial; Snow if the opponent has 900 stats in Defense or Evasion.

Combinatorial; Decay
Effect: Treat Combinatorial; Decay as an extension of Combinatorial; Plant in all applications of techniques, skills, equipment. Upon purchase of this skill, the user loses access to Combinatorial; Plant’s effect on medical techniques. Combinatorial; Plant becomes Combinatorial; Decay, which reads:

“May use Decay Element techniques. Decay Element techniques inflict the hindering skill Chakra Leak [Rank 3] as a 1 turn status effect on the opponent. If the opponent has ranks in this hindering skill, this effect allows the skill to break its maximum rank. Multiple afflictions of Decay in one turn on one target do not stack. In addition, the user may choose to apply the bonus from one of the Subtle Elements skills required to learn this element if they own it.”

Requirements: Combinatorial; Plant, Fuhaiton Affinity. This skill may be taught to others by someone possessing it and Fuhaiton Affinity.
Cost: -1 SP

Fuhaiton Salvaging
Effect: Whenever an opponent loses chakra through Chakra Leak effect from the user’s Combinatorial; Decay, the user absorbs 25x% of that effect amount as chakra. (Where x = the user’s rank in this skill.)
Ranks: 4, may be taken every 10 levels
Requirements: Fuhaiton Consumption
Cost: -1 SP

Fuhaiton Entropy
Effect: When used against an opponent’s clones or summons, increase the rank of Chakra Leak afflicted through Combinatorial; Decay by y. (Where y = the user’s rank in this skill) This allows Chakra Leak to break its maximum rank.
Ranks: 4, may be taken every 10 levels
Requirements: Fuhaiton Consumption
Cost: -1 SP

I'm sorry, my approval was overzealous.

"A character with a Bloodline skill may not teach another character that Bloodline skill unless the learning character also has access to the same genetics."

This is a basic rule on the mainsite. Is there any reason this cannot just be an advanced system on its own? Why bloodline specifically?
