cntrstrk14 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 One Who Is the Ruler of Time (Kan-Laon) [Forbidden Art #34]Rank: Sennin [Forbidden: Powerful]Type: NinjutsuCost: 100 + x ChakraEffects: Used in the Response Phase. The value of x is equal to the cost of the attack. Negate an attack that included the user as a target of your choosing. If the attack is a Ninjutsu technique it is absorbed. Any time after absorbing the technique the user may then use that technique, paying the technique’s normal cost. If the technique being performed was absorbed in a previous battle, you must pay 1.2x the cost to perform it instead of the normal cost. Techniques used in this way may never have their cost reduced below their normal cost. Can only use an absorbed technique once. Absorbed techniques are stored until used. May only store a maximum of four techniques at a time. The user loses their next Main Phase. May remove a stored jutsu during the Setup Phase. May only be used to negate an attack twice (2) per battle.Description: Upon learning this technique the user receives a tattoo on their right forearm. The tattoo wraps around the arm and has intricate tribal patterns; on the underside of the forearm is an open area with four kanji going across the arm. These four kanji read as Tha Pae, Chang Puak, Suan Dok, and Chiang Mai. Each of these represents a separate gate that can be summoned through use of this technique. They were named after the four great gates of Chiang Mai, the capital of the Lanna kingdom in a northern region that has since ceased to exist. The user, through use of an altered form of Kuchiyose no jutsu, summons one of four gates in front of them. Each gate leads to its own separate realm of void. Any and all ninjutsu that hits one of these gates is immediately absorbed into the nothingness, and directly following its absorption the gate collapses upon itself, leaving the user extremely drained. The name of the technique absorbed appears next to the appropriate kanji for the gate used to absorb it. At a later date the user may release the technique during battle, causing the name to disappear. This is done by simply taking one’s own blood and smearing it across the name of the technique they want to unleash. The designated gate opens back up in the direction they wish to attack and the technique they want to use is released from the void. The technique is released because all the energy which had no where to go within the vacuum suddenly has an opening to leave from. The user does not need any requirements of the technique as they are technically not performing it, but only releasing it from the vacuum. An absorbed technique can only be used once, as the name disappears once it is released. While in the void the technique is collapsed down upon itself and becomes a small orb of power, though what it looks like does not matter as no one can enter the void to see it anyway. While in the void the technique cannot loose its energy because it is within a complete vacuum and has nothing else to transfer the energy too. Each gate only has a single void within it and thus can only hold one technique at a time each. This technique is taken from the “Divine Scroll of the 77 Forbidden Arts”, owned by the Alchem clan and passed down from clan head to clan head. The scroll is required to learn this technique because it has a blood contract for summoning the four gates.Gates:Tha Pae -Chang Puak -Suan Dok -Chiang Mai -Requirements: Divine Scroll of the 77 Forbidden ArtsPoints: 22 Old version of the technique 2
Hardcore Skittlez Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Ho boy. Tackling something like this that hasn't really been brought into review in almost a decade? Why you gotta do this to me? First thing that stands out is its ability to negate any technique. Based on the description, the gates that it summons are only in front of the user- why would it then be able to negate an attack targeting an ally that was not directly beside the user? Though, I should note that I don't have a problem with the jutsu being able to do so(because it is forbidden, after all) but rather, I dislike it being able to do so because it is also able to indefinitely store ninjutsu attacks. Unfortunately, no immediate example jumps to mind to elaborate on the excessive tempo-control and utility that this would grant in a group battle other than nebula, "what-if" scenarios. Call me Obi-wan, but I've just got a bad feeling about this. I would rather it instead read: Negate an attack that includes the user as a target of your choosing. Also, I don't expect you to have tried to abuse it in such a way, but it should be made apparent either in this thread or in the jutsu itself that this technique cannot retroactively prevent jutsu- it only applies to jutsu targeting the user during the turn in which it was used. Next; The cost of an absorbed jutsu may never be reduced below its base cost through any means. A big balancing factor of this technique is the fact that spitting the jutsu back out still costs a considerable amount of chakra in most cases- I want it to remain that way, and not to have its cost overly cheapened by extreme cost reduction effects. However, denying their application entirely feels unfair, so I think that being able to be reduced from 1.2x to x is a fair compromise. Next; This technique can only be used twice per battle. Right now, it can only absorb things twice per battle, but does not specify its actual usage limit. Even with its status as a forbidden technique, I am adamant that this does not violate the basic twice per battle RPJ rule. This point I feel is non-negotiable. As an addendum to the above point, using a stored jutsu should count as a usage of this technique, as you(presumably) need to re-summon the gate in question to release its stored technique. Finally; Super duper insignificant here, but... can we remove the line that refers to Thailand in the description? NA doesn't have a Thailand, so referencing it feels incredibly... immersion breaking.
cntrstrk14 Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 1.) Done. That's basically what I meant it to do. Also, retroactively removing an attack cannot be done with that wording. An attack that has already finished resolving cannot be the target unless explicitly sayings so. 2.) I'm not sure on the reasoning here. Bluntly, Syaoran has no cost reduction abilities (that I can remember), but even if he did why would that be a problem? If a player pays the costs to gain cost reduction abilities, they should be able to use them. It seems pretty arbitrary to just say that this specific technique cannot gain the benefits of cost reduction. If you want to lay out better guidelines to use in the future we can discuss it, but as is I just can't agree with that. We talked about this on Skype, agreed that it was against the flavor of the jutsu and not mechanical. Added. 3a.) This was the intended effect. I had momentarily forgotten that not all types of techniques can be absorbed, so changed. 3b.) I disagree. At most this technique (as written now) can be used 8 times per battle, and that is assuming you came into the battle with four techniques. Used a Stored Tech Absorb a Tech Used a Stored Tech Absorb a Tech Used a Stored Tech Used a Stored Tech Used a Stored Tech Used a Stored Tech I think you are over valuing a stored technique over a technique the user just has. The user does not have much control over what techniques they have stored, if they are trying to execute a specific strategy it would be much easier to just create and learn a jutsu that does that than to steal it to be able to use it once. So I would like to discuss further the idea of limitations on using stored jutsu. 4.) Done. I agree and it was stupid. That's what I get for not reading the 10 year old description.
